Have you ever heard the expression “you can’t have the rainbow without the rain?” Today you’ll meet a very special guest and hear about how she has created her very own incredible rainbow!

At just 10 years old, Lily leads Lily Lou's Aroma's, a business dedicated to creating eco-friendly self-care products with delightful scents. From scented candles to wax melts, essential oils, and perfumes, each item is meticulously made with sustainable and cruelty-free ingredients, ensuring a delightful experience while honoring our planet. But Lily's vision extends beyond creating exceptional products. Inspired by her passion for giving back, Lily Lou's Aroma's actively supports various charities and advocates against bullying. This commitment to making a positive impact stems from Lily's upbringing and her unwavering dedication to creating a better world. Lily's journey began before the pandemic when she embarked on a homeschooling project that ignited her passion for crafting sustainable goods. Her love for experimentation and facing new challenges transformed a hobby into a thriving business, driven by her entrepreneurial spirit and desire to effect change.

Lily’s story is such an inspiring one, and if you have children, you should share this episode with them. Boys, girls, everyone needs to hear her message about bullying, and Lily is an example that it is never too young to start in business if your child has an entrepreneurial spirit as well. I’m so proud of what Lily has accomplished (so far!) and I cannot wait to see where she’s going next. To learn even more about Lily and her business, makes sure to visit her Instagram, @lilylousaromas. If you enjoyed this episode, let her know and tag me in too, @jillkalmaninteriors!

Today, I want to talk about what I was frustrated by with design. The intimidation, the overwhelm, the thought that design services are expensive (and more!) is what I’ve heard for years, but a few years back I had a lightbulb moment and embraced online and virtual design services, or “E-design.” In this episode, you’re not only going to hear about my pivot to this business model and why I wanted to do it, but the amazing Molly Cody is with me to share her thoughts on why E-design is here to stay!

Molly Cody is ranked as one of Kansas City’s top-8 interior designer. She has a wealth of experience in real estate, remodeling, short-term rentals, interior furnishing and styling. With her expertise in e-design, she has successfully serviced clients in over 13 states.

Molly’s passion for interiors began at a young age, as she purchased her first house at 24 and went on to own property in 4 states by the age of 30. Her interior showmanship and minor cosmetic upgrades resulted in one of her personal homes selling for $100k more than the original purchase price. She is intentional in her designs, putting function first and incorporating neutrals and cohesion in every project. Her current passion project is a short-term rental in eastern TN to be called "Turtle Dove Treehouse".

Whether you are a designer, homeowner or real estate investor, I hope you enjoyed this episode with Molly and that it helped explain why E-design is a such a viable way to design a home!

Do you know what’s hiding in your mattress? It might be more than you think! We spend up to one-third of our lives on our mattress, so this is a topic I really wanted to talk about on the podcast, and today’s expert guest has a lot of good information to share. Barry A. Cik is founder and Technical Director of Naturepedic, a manufacturer of award-winning certified organic mattresses. His devotion to the organic industry is the natural result of his lifelong interest in preserving the environment, not only for us, but for all future generations as well. A board-certified environmental engineer, Barry combines his passion for improving our quality of life with the technical knowledge to do so. Barry is an advocate for legislative reform, and was invited to testify in Washington, D.C. as part of a congressional subcommittee exploring chemical reform. Barry is also a frequent speaker and thought leader, speaking before scientific, consumer, political and business audiences on the benefits of sustainable product design.

His background in environmental engineering led Barry to chart his own successful entrepreneurial course for many years. When shopping for his first grandchild's crib mattress, he was troubled to discover the state of the baby mattress industry. From that moment, Barry was inspired and determined to create mattress products that were safer and healthier for every child. Working in tandem with his sons, Barry established Naturepedic in 2003.

Barry continues to work hard, both for the parents that depend on Naturepedic’s No-Compromise approach to safer sleep and for the generations that will inherit the sustainability movement. He believes in a healthier world without harmful chemicals, environmental toxins, or destructive business practices.

I admit, this is something that I didn’t give much thought to before speaking with Barry, but what he revealed completely changed the way I think about healthy sleep, and I hope it does for you too!

We’re happy to be a special affiliate of Naturepedic, and happy to endorse their products! You can learn more about Naturepedic, and shop now by clicking HERE!

In the words of today’s guest, anything can be painted, and she is here to today to share how this is possible in your world too!

Shelly Denning is an Interior Decorative Painter who works with homeowners, decorators and designers to create unique finishes for walls, floors, ceilings and furniture. Shelly has been painting for over 30 years, crafting techniques and designs for traditional and modern interiors. With a strong sense of color and texture, she works with custom tinted glazes used for techniques such as strie, linen crosshatch, faux bois, faux marble, plaster applications as well as stenciling and hand-painted murals.

Shelly has an Associate’s Degree in Interior Design, a BFA in Sculpture and a minor in Art History. Through School, she has taken many class in woodworking, metal working, printmaking and color theory and she is very comfortable around all sorts of power tools. Her success is attributed to a ‘can do’ attitude, a bit of research and a love of getting her hands dirty!

One might say that Shelly’s painting career started as a young child when she set up a shop in her parent’s garage. In reality, she turned her painting abilities into a business right before having her first child by finding old furniture, painting with fun designs to sell at local stores. At one of the stores a customer asked Shelly if she could paint walls, and the next thing she knew, she was traveling around NJ with a ladder strapped to the roof of her car. Mostly self-taught, Shelly has taken some classes and she is very well versed in anything paint, and you can view her portfolio on Instagram, @shellypaint.

In this episode, Shelly and I talk about the possibilities (that you probably haven’t even thought of in your home!) that exist using decorative paint applications. We hope this conversation inspires you and allows you to realize you absolutely can accomplish great things in your home, starting now, using paint!

It’s been said that architecture is about trying to make the world a little more like our dreams, which is why I’m so excited today to bring you the perspective of a residential architect on home design and renovations projects!

My special guest is Heidi Bolyard, an architect who has worked with more than 750 families to eliminate frustrations in their homes. Heidi does this by creating spaces that function and flow for their families, and she has also inspired more than 75,000 people by providing ideas and solutions to improve their home.

With 20-plus years of experience as a residential architect, Heidi has also created a proven process using her best practices to empower realtors who struggle with not selling enough homes by providing them with education and knowledge to build their confidence so they can become a leader in real estate, sell more homes, receive more client referrals every month and more than double their income.

In this episode, we talk all about the role of the architect when you are remodelling and renovating your home and how having a team, along with an architect’s perspective, will ultimately benefit your project!

Have you been afraid to use white in your home? Today’s guest is the amazing Chrissie Rucker, founder of The White Company, who is here to share how white is both versatile and beautiful, along with the ways that you can approach using it in your home!

Chrissie founded The White Company in 1994. Today the company, which began life as a small mail-order business, is one of the UK’s most loved and trusted lifestyle brands. With more than 60 stores in the UK and Ireland, along with worldwide ecommerce, it specializes in a wide range of beautiful pieces for your home and family, predominantly in white.

Chrissie grew up in Kent and left school at 16 to study couture and design in London. Her working life began at the age of 18, working for magazines including Harpers & Queen, Brides, GQ, and Vogue, as well as holding a PR role at Clarins.

Renowned for her meticulous attention to detail when creating products, Chrissie believes passionately that, “every single piece we design must stand the test of time and be used and loved for many years to come.”

In this episode, Chrissie discusses the journey she took to start her company and she shares about her two books, which both really show how using white in your home isn’t “drab” or “too fragile” – it’s actually interesting! Even if you like using color, you can also use white, and you’re going to want to hear all the great things that Chrissie reveals in this episode.

Chrissie’s latest book published by Harper Collins, The Art of Living with White: A Year of Inspiration is available now! I loved it so much, and I really want to help you use white in your home. If it’s something you’ve been thinking about doing, I am giving away copies of the book in a special giveaway. Today I have a special encore episode for you with Elizabeth Daniel, which was popular one that we received a lot of positive feedback about when it originally aired in June 2021! I saw Elizabeth featured on CBS Sunday Morning and I wanted to introduce her to you, as I think what she has to share is so interesting. As they say, one man’s trash is another person’s treasure, and in this episode, you’ll learn how she is making it easy to incorporate vintage styles into your home!

Elizabeth is a décor artist with an expansive education in multiple artistic styles. She has begun using decor as her latest medium, and Elizabeth’s Facebook Group, Elizabeth Daniel Decor, is where she unveils her installations at 8 am every Friday. Using a delightful mix of thrifted, vintage finds and art, she sets up a dreamy home scene, with each one being vastly different from the last. Elizabeth then sells each piece inside the vignette in her group. I encourage you to check it out at https://www.facebook.com/groups/274145330092415!

Elizabeth’s philosophy really sparks something in me, and there are vintage items that we all love and can use in our current home. I hope after listening to this episode, you’ll be inspired too, and discover why it really is ok to mix old with new!

Are you ready to learn my favorite mindset tool to reach your goals faster? This is one of the most powerful tools you’ll ever learn, and in this episode, I’m so pleased to have my guest Aimee Greczmiel here to share her thoughts and expertise with us.

Aimee is a former Fortune 500 VP who has taken her passion for mentoring and personal growth to help working parents reduce stress & overwhelm and experience more balance, presence, and ease in their personal and professional lives. Aimee guides parents to get clear on their desired outcomes, so they may leave a lasting legacy for their family and make an impact in their career. Aimee is an action-oriented mentor who has helped hundreds of individuals reach their goals, while overcoming personal and professional challenges.

I think this is a great segway from my chat last week with Lynn Turcotte-Schuh about the “Supermom Syndrome.” Today, Aimee is really honing in on how as a corporate mom you can reach your goals and gain more balance by looking inward and having some more insight regarding your mindset. I hope you find this conversation with Aimee as valuable as I did!

Alright Moms, I want you to hang up your capes for a minute as you listen to this episode! The “Supermom Syndrome” is a very real thing, and today’s special guest is here to share her expertise on it and explain how default parenting, the mental load and mom shaming are holding women back, and what we can start to do about these things right now.

Lynn Turcotte-Schuh is a Mentor, Speaker and Educator who supports Mamas in letting go of society's expectations and redefining their motherhood experience for themselves. She is the Founder of the Happy Mama Wellness Community, the place to be for Mamas who love their kids but aren't loving the day-to-day of motherhood. When Lynn isn't working with Mamas, you can find her with her wife and daughter on their 14-acre homestead; probably hanging out with her rabbits or chickens, getting dirty in the garden or leading a wicked awesome kitchen dance party.

As rewarding as motherhood is, the day-to-day of it can be really hard. I think it’s important for us to know that it’s perfectly ok to talk about the challenges in motherhood, without feeling judgment or shame, which is why I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to share this conversation with Lynn today on the podcast.

If you’ve been following me for any amount of time, you know that cooking is one of my favorite passions and hobbies. With summer just about over and school starting back up, I thought it would be the perfect time for us to talk about meal prep, how to get the kids involved in the kitchen, and ways to make cooking fun and easy for everyone in your household.

My special guest today is Barry Gribbon, who founded Homerun Entertainment in 2002 when he saw the opportunity for a small boutique production company to produce cable television and web portals. Barry has produced over 600 episodes of food-based programs, making him the perfect guest to give us the pro tips that we can start using in the kitchen right away.

I hope this episode helps give you the incentive, and know-how, to cook at home, and see you in the kitchen!

Have you ever stayed at a hotel, and you just wanted to bring it all home? I’m so excited to bring you Darcy Guttwein, who is the expert in bringing those great things that we all enjoy in hotels into our home, because I’ve always been a proponent of that!

Darcy Guttwein is a seasoned world traveler with a passion for lifestyle improvement. She has spent over two decades designing at-home luxury lifestyle experiences that exemplify “Hotels to Home” living.

Navigating the complex roles of entrepreneur, wife, mother, and philanthropist, she searched for a ready-made guide to enjoy an elevated lifestyle within the home, but in the absence of finding one, designed her own. Darcy looked no further than her fondness for luxury hotel stays to take the bones of a home and give it life – ultimately curating beloved hospitality experiences and creating a domicile that is a true haven. Her holistic lifestyle brand covers multiple facets of daily living and celebrates distinct personal tastes, allowing the approach to be customized and enjoyed across individual households.

She resides in Colorado with her husband and two children, where they delight in blurring the lines between holiday and everyday living.

I encourage you to try the strategies that Darcy shares today, and if you have found this information helpful, please let us know on Instagram, @hotelstohome and @jillkalmaninteriors.

Today I’m bringing you an encore episode of one of my favorite interviews I’ve done since starting this podcast, with Brittney Levine! You may know Brittney as she is on tv all the time and does amazing style and shopping segments, and in June 2020 we did a whole episode on how to find your style. So many people come to me and are confused about style in their home, and I think often it’s not that they don’t know what it is, but they’re afraid to step into it in their home.

In this episode, Britt and I give you some great tips on how to tap into your own style and how to really feel comfortable doing what feels good to you. I hope you enjoy this episode, and you can follow Brittney on Instagram, @ brittneyhlevine, to see all the great things she does and to learn more about this amazing woman!

From cocktails to mocktails, we have got you covered in this episode! Today we’re talking all about liquor, the home bar and entertaining, and I am looking forward to you meeting today’s guest who is here to share her expertise in this area with all of us.

Megan Campbell started working in the alcohol industry in 2014, as a server in a dine-in movie theater in Scottsdale. After a year there she moved over to bartending where she truly fell in love with cocktails. Another year later and she found herself itching to grow further in the industry. A friend showed her Fire Station No.1, a new distillery in old town Peoria that was looking for someone to create their cocktail program. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to showcase her talents and learn a little more about alcohol while she was there. Megan had no idea how deeply it would affect her! During the 3 years she worked at the Fire Station she met the love of my life, made some of the best friends she’s ever had, and of course, completely fell in love with the liquor industry and distilling. Nothing has ever felt as right as distilling did for Megan. After a few years, she once again found herself itching for growth, but this time with a bigger goal - business ownership. There isn't a huge distilling industry in Arizona and nobody in the United States was doing anything like what she had envisioned. Working for somebody else just did not feel like an option, so she started the long process of collecting funding, finding a location, and learning how to navigate the complex world of governmental regulations. Now they find themselves only months away from opening Turquoise Sky Custom Spirits in downtown Phoenix, AZ!

Parenting is the hardest job in the world, but today’s expert guest is here to give his interesting perspective and practical tips for raising our children in today’s world, as a conscious and aware parent.

Dr. Bob Saul has been guiding the physical, behavioral, and mental care of children for over 40 years. His Parental Awareness Threshold is a simple framework to actively parent with self-awareness, empathy, and compassion where children learn to build nurturing relationships as well as exhibit love and respect for others.

I got so many great takeaways from this conversation with Dr. Saul, and there is always something new to learn about parenting. There’s no instruction manual for how to be a parent, but I believe the advice and experiences shared by Dr. Saul today will help so many parents who tune in to listen to this episode!

Today I have a special replay of a past episode with my guest Kim Greco of Paws and Possibilities, where we talked about what’s really involved in owning a dog. This episode is dedicated to Biscuit, our beloved Cockapoo of 13 years who we just lost recently. Shortly after I recorded the original episode with Kim, we found out that Biscuit had terminal cancer. He was the first dog we owned, and it was one of the most enriching and fabulous experiences we could have as Biscuit really taught us what it meant to be man’s best friend and what unconditional love looks like. I hope Biscuit is up there catching so many treats. This one is for you buddy, we love you…

Kim Greco is the owner of Paws and Possibilities and creator of the online dog training program Manners Matter, is a dog trainer for people who want to be proud of their dog, not embarrassed by them.

Through her unique training system, you’ll create the relationship with your dog you've always dreamed about— all while feeling like it’s a walk in the park.

When she’s not teaching your dog good manners, you can find Kim hot on the salsa dance floor or reminiscing about how fun it was to train dolphins.

This is an important conversation to have, because when people move to the suburbs and have more space and a bigger yard, often the idea of adding a dog to the family is a common one. We discuss a lot of topics in this episode, and if something we touched on is of particular interest to you, let me know and I’ll have Kim back for a future episode to dive in deeper on your question!

Owning dogs is a big undertaking, but as I know from personal experience, it is so worth it. I hope this episode helps give you some insight and tools that you can use on a daily basis with your own pet!

There’s an old adage that says, work hard, play hard, and today on the podcast we’re talking all about the subject of play and how important it is for your mind and your well-being. To do this, my special guest is Wendy Conklin, the Creative Director and thought leader behind the Chair Whimsy movement to live more creatively.

Wendy helps her online course students tap into and cultivate their creativity, giving them permission to "play" and upgrade their joy. Her teaching style makes the challenge of learning a new craft feel accessible and fun! Wendy’s business programming helps other artisans and makers leverage their knowledge, skills, and finished work to build and grow businesses supporting their families and providing financial and creative fulfillment.

You can still purchase from her inventory of exclusive reupholstered chairs and indulge in the multi-sensory feast of her unique pattern play and design aesthetic.

Whether she's building a greenhouse in her backyard, revamping her vintage camper, or upgrading her design studio, Wendy brings her audience along for the ride. Wendy’s growing Instagram following goes wild for her sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes tips, and sourcing links. Her work is featured in top-shelf publications, including HGTV Magazine, Woman’s World, Cottages & Bungalows, Where Women Create, Cottage Style, Austin Home, and Austin Woman magazines.

Wendy lives in the Austin, Texas area with her husband, two daughters, and little furry friend, Nike.

I hope you enjoy this episode, and I encourage you to play and feel free to explore your own creative side. By tapping into the creative that you do have by playing, you may discover something that you’re passionate about and even turn it into a business (like I did)!

Do you ever feel like you need an undercover contractor to help you with your home renovation project and the team you’re working with? I’ve got good news, because Matt DiBara is here today to lift the curtain on all things building and to share his expertise with us!

Fourth generation mason Matt DiBara mixed his first bag of concrete at age 9 and went on to spend most of his childhood learning the trade, eventually placing second in the national SkillsUSA masonry competition. From there, he branched out to attend the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where he earned a degree in Construction Management and Environmental Design. After graduating, Matt took over his family's construction business and relocated to Los Angeles, where he went on to be mentored by the likes of marketing guru Jay Abraham and business tycoon Mike Agugilaro of CEO Warrior fame. Since then, he has built up DiBara Masonry to become the leading masonry and concrete company in the county, working on some of the most prestigious and well-known celebrity homes in the city, in addition to restoring a number of Hollywood's most famous cultural landmarks. Matt's true passion, however, rests in educating homeowners by teaching his “Confident Homeowner System” empowering them with indepth industry insight, much of which can be found in his upcoming book The Undercover Contractor and his recent podcast, The Confident Homeowner Podcast.

As you can tell from this conversation, with his experience in the industry, Matt is someone you definitely want on your side when going through the renovation process. I’m really glad that I got to introduce him to you today, and I encourage you to check out his podcast and all of the valuable resources he has available for homeowners!

Our homes are emotional, and on today’s episode I wanted to go a bit deeper into this fascinating topic. My guest is Marissa Lada of Honey Lune Hivery, who I found on TikTok (and she is a bit of a sensation on that platform)! I realized that Marissa and I have so many of the same philosophies about home, the psychology of home, and approach to decorating, and I just knew that I had to invite her to be a guest on the podcast.

Marissa Lada is a Holistic Home Coach + Designer. With her background in Interior Design, Feng Shui, and Holistic Health + Wellness, she works to improve people's health, happiness, and wellbeing through their relationship with their home.

Everything around us is energy, and it makes sense that our homes are emotional and a link to our own personal energy. If something you hear in today’s episode resonates with you, or you have any thoughts or questions, make sure to reach out to Marissa and I and let us know!

Are you thinking about adding a furry member to your family? Maybe you just recently did, and you have questions or concerns about owning the new dog? You’ll want to hear this episode, as my special guest is revealing her expertise as we talk all things dogs!

This is the second time that today’s guest has appeared on Welcome Home to the Suburbs, but this time we’re discussing something different. With so much going on in the industry at this time, I wanted to bring a top professional, Renée Biery, back on the podcast to share what we need to know as homeowners looking to do renovation projects!

Renée deVignier Biery, ASID, is an interior designer based in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1994 she earned an Associate degree in Applied Science in Interior Design with distinction, from New York School of Interior Design, one of the country's oldest conservatory interior design programs.

Biery honed her skills working in the design field in New York. She began in 1993 as an associate in the legendary Lexington Avenue boutique of Charlotte Moss, and then spent several years as a senior designer in the firm of Barbara Hauben Ross, a New York designer especially known for luxury Art Deco interiors. During her time in New York, Biery honed her skills in historical and architectural renovation, as well as modern color, shape and structure. This experience structured her approach of a quietly pared-down viewpoint that balances more embellished, traditional environments.

Biery is formally trained in practical interior architecture with advanced technical and rendering proficiency. Her credentials include NCIDQ board licensing as a professional member of the ASID, the design industry’s highest certification.

Biery returned permanently to Wilmington in 2000 and established her own firm, deVignier design, inc. She works in restoration as well as new construction, and remains committed to the personal attention of a studio practice where she is fully involved from inception to installation with every assignment.

Renée also has her own podcast, Only Girl On The Jobsite, which just celebrated its one-year anniversary. She has a ton of great resources and services for you, so stayed tuned until the end of the episode to hear all about the ways she can help you approach your next home renovation projecti!

No matter what your career is, or what you’re doing in life, DIY is an awesome outlet. Today on the podcast we’re talking all things DIY with Meghan Russo, so get out your paint brush and let’s go!

Meghan is an educator, home decorator, small business owner, mommy of 4, and lover of all things DIY and decor! She grew up in Queens, NY, and graduated from St. John's University with a B.S. in Childhood Education. Meghan worked as an elementary school teacher until becoming a full-time mom after the birth of her twins in 2010, and then 2 other children in 2014, and 2016.

Meghan's business journey began in 2016 when her 4th and youngest child was unexpectedly born with a rare foot deformity. The correction process required weekly visits for treatments and surgeries in a hospital halfway across the country. Inspired by her desire to make supplemental income to cover mounting medical costs, Meghan honed her creative DIY skills to make and sell custom farmhouse signs. With a lot of passion and determination, Meghan soon found herself selling more signs than she ever imagined. What began as a side job, suddenly became a viable business idea. In 2018 Meghan founded Wonderfully Made Designsand opened an Etsy shop selling her handmade items.

As her customer base grew, she began connecting with her audience through her Instagram account @wonderfullymadect. Meghan enjoyed reaching her customers on a more personal level, which paved the way for the launch of her home décor and lifestyle blog. This space is a creative outlet where Meghan shares everything from her daily life to her DIY projects and decorating tips.

Inspired by a community of home décor and design accounts, Meghan soon discovered a new passion in the field of design. She is currently pursuing a masters' degree in Interior Design at Fairfield University. As her knowledge grows, she looks forward to sharing design inspiration and tips with her community and customers daily.

I hope this conversation with Megan inspires you to connect with your creativity, because we are all creative in your own ways, and let us know what your next DIY will be!

Are you finding it difficult to juggle life, motherhood, and your career, with the vast amount responsibilities that come with each? Would you like to “get your wings” and go from a caterpillar to butterfly, but you’re not even sure where to start with this process? Today’s expert guest is Kelly Wilson, aka The Butterfly Guide, and in this episode, she reveals how each one of us can begin to do this right now.

Kelly is a life activation coach who ignites women’s inner voice and authority so that they can win at life, love, and relationships. Kelly’s own journey began 10 years ago, when she navigated total life destruction after divorce, and this catapulted her on her journey of self-discovery and re-invention. It was here that she learned the true definition of authenticity, sovereignty, and soul-aligned living.

She believes that it is when you do the inner work to decondition and reclaim your authentic self, life becomes truly extraordinary.

I love this conversation with Kelly because we go deep into topics that might not be so easy to discuss with friends and family, and you’ll hear my own personal story of deconstruction and how I went from being a caterpillar to a butterfly.

I hope that after listening to this episode, you see that you absolutely can be a mother along with having any career outside of the home that you desire. It’s all ok, and you’re not alone in having these feelings that Kelly and I discuss, which is why I encourage you to take advantage of Kelly’s free 45-minute workshop on how to begin your radical self-love journey so that you can win at life, love, & relationships too. You can get this valuable resource at https://www.thebutterflyguide.com/self-love, and you can also connect with Kelly on Instagram, @thebutterflyguide.

Let’s face it, purchasing a home is one of, if not THE, biggest purchases that you and your family will ever make, which is why I just knew that I had to bring you this conversation with money confidence coach Aimee Cerka.

In this episode, we’ll look at things such the big differences between having a scarcity mindset versus having an abundance mindset, what you can do if you and your partner come from totally different backgrounds with money (and have much different views on the topic), how you can compromise, and so much more! Purchasing the home is just the first step, but once you move in there will be a lot of ongoing expense to face. If you don’t do the money mindset work that Amie shares about today, you risk feeling stuck and overwhelmed with this process (and we don’t want that)!

Aimee helps families master their money, and her principles and style of teaching allow them to create the financial life that they dream of. Best of all, she helps them do this without having to skimp, or having to work 80 hours a week to support their lifestyle. Aimee believes that you can improve your life while also improving your finances, and I hope you get a lot of value and good information from this episode with her!

How would you like to take the hassle out of ordering custom home décor? My guest today has the solution for making this process seamless, and I’m so excited to share with you this conversation I had with her!

Ella Hall is the founder of Stitchroom, a Brooklyn upholstery shop that can help you make custom pillows, cushions, curtains, and other upholstery online. After receiving a degree in fashion design, Ella pursued a career in fashion, where she learned all about designers’ processes and all their major pain points. Always the entrepreneur, Ella saw a legitimate opportunity to build a large business within an industry that hadn’t changed for decades by using software.

Stitchroom is taking the hassle out of the process of ordering custom home décor, one click at a time! Its platform simplifies the process of designing and ordering custom pieces, and it allows designers and customers to easily order and track multiple items at once. The best part? Orders for core products are turned around in just 2 to 3 weeks!

I just love how Ella saw a very specific problem in our industry and streamlined the process not just for designers, but for you as the customer as well.

Elizabeth Daniel was recently featured on CBS Sunday Morning, and I’m so excited to have her as our guest today! As they say, one man’s trash is another person’s treasure, and in this episode, you’ll learn how she is making it easy to incorporate vintage styles into your home!

Elizabeth is a decor artist with an expansive education in multiple artistic styles.

I hope after listening to this episode, you’ll be inspired too, ad discover why it really is ok to mix old with new!

Are you going through the paint wheel of literally thousands of colors, trying to get to the right one you’re looking for? Maybe your painter needs this information by tomorrow, and you don’t want to make a mistake that could cost you thousands of dollars? Choosing a paint color can be so overwhelming and crowdsourcing a color on Facebook isn’t always the best strategy. That’s why today I’m talking with the amazing Nicole Gibbons, the founder of Clare Paints, who is on a mission to make paint shopping easy and inspiring (so that you can create a home you love)!

In addition to being the founder of Clare, Nicole is an interior designer who saw that no paint brands were offering an easy or convenient way to shop for paint - so she decided to fix that! A true expert in her field, her design know-how has been featured by top media outlets like HGTV, The Oprah Winfrey Network, Good Morning America, Elle Decor and more. Nicole is passionate about helping people create beautiful spaces they love. And with Clare, she's continuing to do just that...one perfect paint color at a time!

Occupational therapy, psychology, special education and sensory integration all can tie into the design of your home, and today’s special guest has a background in each of these areas. In this episode, Morgan Blueglass reveals how all of these things can have a significant impact on the home environment and should be taken into consideration when designing a living area.

Morgan is an occupational therapy practitioner, and she has learned the importance of sensory integration and helping people best manage their most often used and valued parts of their home. Occupational therapy is all about problem solving and coming up with adaptations in order to help people accomplish their daily tasks with a greater sense of independence, ease and enjoyment. Morgan believes in creating environments that provoke calm and focused mindsets, and over the last year she started a company called Morganized Design which brings together all of these passions.

As a listener you will know that I’m a big believer in the psychology of home in general, and how our homes affect us in so many facets of our life. If what Morgan and I talk about in this episode impacts you and your family at all, please feel free to reach out to us to continue this conversation.

Do you feel like you have yet to discover your purpose? Does your current job not really feel like it’s the right one for you? Maybe you’ve just lost your job, or you’ve given up working outside the home to raise a family? Today I’m speaking about all of these things with a purpose coach, and if you want to uncover that thing that you were meant to do, then this episode could be or you.

Pavielle Bookman is a native of Jacksonville, FL. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business from Florida State University and received her Juris Doctor degree from Stetson University’s College of Law.

Pavielle is a lawyer, strategist, and coach who serves people of faith by demystifying the topic of purpose to help you become more confident and fulfilled in your life. She hosts The Purpose Collective Podcast, where she talks about what living a life of purpose is really about. Each week on her podcast, she discusses insights and tips to help you live out your life's purpose on a higher frequency, just as God intended.

I was really intrigued by what Pavielle does, because for women it can be really easy to get lost in the shuffle of taking care of everybody else, which I talk about this in the episode. We are nurturers but we often forget to nurture ourselves, which means tapping into our passions, purpose and carving our own way as human beings. These things are even more important right now, especially in the challenging times we all find ourselves in.

I’m excited to announce that I have the perfect service for you called R.O.O.M (which stands for “Remove the Overwhelm and Overcome the Move One Room at a Time”). Today there might just be too many cooks in the kitchen! We’re going to do it in this episode though, as my guests and I talk all things kitchen, cooking and restaurants. If you’re a foodie or have just bought a new home with a nice, big kitchen that you want to use, this episode will help take the mystery out of it all!

Chef Jamie Adams and Leonardo Moura are co-owners and business partners with over 40 years of experience in the restaurant industry. They both love to eat well, drink and be merry and both have gotten pretty good at selling that whole

thing with their two Atlanta based restaurants, il Giallo and Lagarde. They've decided to share our food and wine experience in today’s episode which covers their experiences and expertise with a great sense of humor and without taking themselves too bloody

seriously. They also host their own weekly podcast called Katzenjammer, where they talk about food, wine, restaurant life and the associated uproar and chaos that comes along for the ride.

I found this episode with Leonardo and Jamie so enlightening, as we covered so many topics. I hope you too learn something from it and enjoy listening!

Vactionland. Just the sound of that word sounds great! If you don’t know what state I’m referring to, Vacationland is the state of Maine (which is where I’m from), and I today I’m speaking with a Maine real estate agent to tell you all about what it’s like to move and live there.

Marty Macisso has been a Maine licensed realtor since 2010 in the Greater Portland Maine area, but he’s sold properties up and down the coast of the state. Prior to this Marty was a loan officer and he has extensive knowledge of lending and market trends. He resides in a rural town just west of Portland, and he is married with a newborn daughter.

I really wanted to have Marty on the show to talk about the trend that is seeing more and more people relocate to Maine, because it’s become such a popular move (especially during the pandemic). If you’ve ever had plans, or dreams to move to another state, you’re really going to find the episode interesting. If you have any questions about what it’s like to live in Maine, please do reach out to Marty or myself, as I grew up in Maine and my family still resides there!

Do you love binge-watching HGTV and scrolling all those wonderful Facebook posts about design ideas? If you do, you are going to absolutely love today’s episode with Jen Berniker!

Before moving from New York City to Westport, Connecticut with her husband and two kids (yes, she is a city to suburbs transplant also!), Jen worked for 15 years as a TV writer and director. Many of her credits were on home design and real estate programs for HGTV and TLC, and now she’s a writer for Westport Lifestyle Magazine as well as being a freelance video producer specializing in lifestyle video content.

Recently Jen launched a social media design advice group and a blog called DesignPort, a collaborative community design board for free, crowdsourced advice from design-obsessed friends and local pros. She has also worked in business development as a video producer, and Jen personally relates to the challenges of moving from the city to the suburbs, setting up a new life and a new home and has so many great insights on things such as décor. I think this makes her an ideal guest to share her expertise and knowledge with us today on the podcast.

Do you have a whole lot more space to furnish, and you’re thinking about getting a professional designer to help you out? Or maybe you’re not even sure if having a designer is right for you? I’m so excited to be chatting with another seasoned designer, as we share our expertise with you in answering these questions.

I’ve been wanting to bring another designer on the podcast to talk about what many people moving often struggling with, and that is trying to figure out who to hire for a designer. As Renée and I shared, it’s a decision that ultimately depends on your comfort level, so make sure whoever you decide is a fit for you, as there’s an abundance of designers and options available. I hope that hearing things from the perspective of designers can help make the options available less intimidating, and as always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or feedback on this episode!

Are you ready to have a little fun today? So often, including on this podcast, we talk about the challenges faced when moving from the city to suburban life. There are many obstacles involved, but what I have found is they can lead to negative thinking around the experience. What I want to do in this episode is to help you make a mindset shift around these challenges, because these hurdles can (and should) be overcome. Ultimately the move you make and everything that comes with it should be as light, exciting and fun as possible, so let’s do this!

P.S. Stay tuned as in the very near future I’ll be brining you an interview with another designer, and we’ll be talking all about what to look for in a designer, what services that person can provide you, whether or not hiring one is the right move for you, and so much more!

To get my FREE Welcome Home Planner that I mentioned in this episode, go to https://jillkalmaninteriors.com/planner, and you can get all the resources I talked about today (and more) at https://jillkalmaninteriors.com/!

Are you feeling overwhelmed as a mom right now? How could anyone not be feeling this way, because whether you are a mother or not, we’re all being pulled in a lot of different directions these days. That’s why I wanted to bring a special guest, Dr. Jessica Bennett on the podcast today to talk distance learning, to getting hot meals on the table (and everything in between)!

Dr. Bennett is the founder of Mindful Literacy Practice. She is a Special Education Teacher in a public school system, who specializes in teaching reading to children who have Dyslexia, ADHD, NVLD, and D/deafness. She has taught in a large urban district; a state run school for the Deaf; and a small suburban district. She has conducted research in a large urban district and charter schools. Through a role with Battelle for Kids, she had the opportunity to author and lead trainings for teachers and districts all over Ohio on behalf of The Ohio Department of Education, as well as coach teachers on formative instructional practices in a variety of rural districts. Dr. Bennett is a published researcher in half a dozen peer-reviewed journals and is an experienced presenter, and as you’ll hear in this episode, yoga has been a life-line to her own physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being for over 20 years.

With what is happening in the world today, I really wanted to offer a space for people who are feeling overwhelmed to know that it is completely normal to be feeling this way. This episode goes in a lot of different directions, and I think it’s an important conversation to have right now (with many “mic drop” moments)! As well, I’m especially excited to let you know that you can go to Dr. Bennett’s website, https://mindfulliteracypractice.org/ and use the special coupon code “WELCOMEHOME20” to receive a 20% discount on her services.

Are you one of those people that just hates to cook? Maybe you think you can’t cook, or you just don’t want to be bothered with doing it? Then this episode is for you, as my guest and I will be breaking it down and showing you why cooking is way easier than you ever thought possible! Plus cooking can be a whole lot of fun, and really enjoyable for not only the person doing the cooking, but the family who is enjoying the meal creations.

Today I have with me Natasha Bull of Salt & Lavender, and if you haven’t seen her Instagram yet you’re going to want to follow her! Natasha has a huge following on the platform and she is an amazing Canadian-based recipe developer and food photographer. Natasha is passionate about creating easy-to-follow recipes that anyone can use to make a quick and delicious meal, and she has created hundreds of them since Salt & Lavender’s inception in late 2015.

Part of the reason why I have Natasha on the show today is to take away the mystery of cooking, especially if you’re moving from the city the suburbs where more cooking may be taking place. Natasha’s recipes are not only tasty, but they’ve been inspiring me in coming up with new meals for my family. I hope this conversation helps you too, and the big takeaway really is that cooking doesn’t have to be difficult and often it’s the simplest foods that tastes the best!

If you’re moving from the city to the suburbs, you probably will have a much bigger kitchen than you had before. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s more efficient though, and there’s so much to consider when it comes to kitchen design and layout. This is why I’m so excited to be speaking with our expert guest Ria Rueda today, and she has so much good advice and insight to share about kitchens, cooking, what’s new in appliances and so much more.

Ria is a lifestyle public relations executive and is currently the Brand Ambassador of The Monogram Design Center at Aitoro Appliance in Norwalk, CT (and you’re going to hear all about the wonderful features and benefits of the Monogram line of appliances in this episode). She has extensive experience in the industry, handling launches and promotions of some of the world’s most respected luxury and consumer product brands. Ria began her career working in several top LA-based lifestyle PR agencies, and she later transitioned to an in-house position with Mattel, managing campaigns for products such as Barbie. She relocated to Connecticut in 2003 and is a foodie at heart, motivated by a passion for local cuisine and a compulsion to keep up with local food trends.

Even if you don’t live in our local area, I think you’ll get a lot of useful information from what Ria shares today, and the big takeaway I got was that a bigger space isn’t necessarily a better space when it comes to kitchens. The possibilities for this room are endless, and with people being home more during this global pandemic and most likely spending more time in the kitchen, I’m looking forward to talking more about cooking next week. I hope to see you back here again to join me!

So what’s your “type?” Have you ever wondered, or maybe you think you know, but you really aren’t sure? There’s an incredible tool that can help you with this called the Enneagram, and after today’s episode with my guest Vrin Rao, I think that you’re going to want to explore this topic a little bit further!

Vrin is a New York City based coach who specializes in working with females, those who identify with the female energy, and those who want to understand and incorporate the female energy in a thoughtful, intentional way.

She incorporates powerful practices such as the framework of the Enneagram, self-awareness techniques, mindfulness and meditation in her sessions.

Vrin is a life-long practitioner of nada yoga (the yoga of sound), japa yoga (the yoga of meditative mantra recitation) and kirtan yoga. She is also well-versed in tantra, chakra meditation, swara yoga (the science of the breath) and yoga nidra (psychic sleep).

She has been a student of yoga philosophy (specifically the Bhagavad Gita) for over 30 years and has taught, mentored and guided newcomers and long-time practitioners in its application around the world.

Before speaking with Vrin I really had no idea that there was a coach who specializes in using the Enneagram to help people, and as you’ll hear in this episode, it’s definitely something that I’m interested in exploring further. If you would like to learn more about the Enneagram, and in the process more about yourself, I’d encourage you to visit Vrin’s website or book a 1:1 Enneagram Consultation with her at https://www.illuminate.nyc/enneagram. I hope you enjoy the information in this episode and get as much from it as I did!

I’m so excited to for this episode, because is something that the audience of the podcast has been asking to hear more about. Window treatments are currently a hot topic in home design, and I’ve got the national window treatment company, The Shade Store (which you most likely have heard of!) here today to discuss them.

Adam Skalman is the VP of Sales Development and Training for The Shade Store, a company that provides designers and consumers with a single resource for custom window treatments. Adam is a 15-year veteran of the industry, including over a decade of time with The Shade Store. The company has a motto that says “Custom Made Simple” – and they really live up to this!

I know window treatments can seem difficult, and they can also be a significant investment, which is why I wanted to discuss them with Adam today. He gives so much great advice in this episode, including why you’ll want to consider function first before anything when it comes to window treatments. If you’re located in the United States you most likely have a location of The Shade Store near you, so drop in to see them to discuss your window treatment needs. If you do, let both Adam and I know how you make out!

Are you feeling stress about your recent move, and are wondering if this could be at the root of what’s causing your child’s interrupted sleep? There is a definite link between the anxiety we feel and big life changes such as a move from the city to the suburbs, and today’s guest shares her expertise and practical advice for overcoming these obstacles that many families will face.

Valerie Groysman, MSW, RSW, is the founder of Talkin Sleep. In addition to her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Valerie obtained her Masters of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Toronto, where she specialized in children and their families. She completed her MSW practicum at the SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health, where she trained as a child and family therapist focused on children 0 to 6 years of age, and their parents.

Valerie accomplished numerous training and certificates on topics such as infant child mental health, parenting, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Attachment Focused Therapies, to name a few. She has extensive experience supporting parent-child relationships, children’s social, emotional and behavioral health, as well as treating anxiety symptoms in children and adults. Valerie is certified in the Baby-Led Sleep approach designed to get sleep without sleeping training or crying it out.

As Valerie shares, routines and sleep patterns will shift all the time, especially when making the move from the city to the suburbs. It’s important for us as parents to trust our intuition and to provide the environment that will help our children manage the changes that are disrupting their sleep, for the wellbeing of the family as a whole. Most importantly, there isn’t a “one size fits all approach” to your child’s sleep, but rather it’s what will work for you and your family.

I’ve been wanting to get a realtor on the podcast to speak about this trend, among other things, in this interesting time we are all living in. I’m so excited to be chatting with and introducing you to Susan Isaak, an accomplished agent with Houlihan Lawrence working out of their Greenwich office. Her success comes from being dedicated to her client's needs and working tirelessly on their behalf. She is a full-time agent with a deep knowledge of the market. Always putting clients first, her goal is to make the entire process a positive one.

In this episode Susan discusses the growing number of people working from home and how this is affecting the real estate market, what features buyers are asking for in homes more now than ever, some common challenges people will face when moving from the city (and how to overcome them), and so much more.

Right now our homes are even more of a focal point in our lives than usual, and Susan shares some fantastic advice on how to approach making the decision of where to live by looking at yourself first, before even looking at that very first home listing.
