Holistic healing from a pharmacist's perspective. Tips and Motivation for your nutrition, mindset and overall health.
There are so many challenges during this time of a pandemic, social unrest and the upcoming election.
In this episode, I get real with you on the challenges that I have personally faced during these tough times being an entrepreneur.
Being a solopreneur brings about the challenge of staying motivated and upbeat. Surrounding yourself with your tribe is so valuable and important anytime but especially right now.
My TOP challenges have been...
Overcoming the shame. At the beginning of all of this there were people who felt the need to shame anyone who was trying to grow their biz. The challenge to know that your message and vision is important and needed.
Pivoting my business 100 percent online by creating new programs for fitness, nutrition and mindset.
Breaking through the noise of all the chaos going on in the world today.
Staying FOCUSED on my goals and not allowing myself to get sucked into the social media drama.
Staying true to myself and my purpose through all of the madness happening in the world.

Being the very best version of you means that you have to take care of YOU.
I think turning 40 this year, all of the COVID craziness and then losing my best friend Luke 🐶 just has me wanting to spread this message with you because it has never been more obvious to me that my mental health is KEY.
It's been a ROUGH year, and we have to do the work to take care of our mental health.
Especially right now as everything appears to be ramping back up again.
There are so many unknowns and so much fear from every corner - but the light at the end of the tunnel?!
It starts with YOU. It starts with me.
What we choose to pour into.
What we choose to digest.
What actions we take.
What words we speak.
And what we do FOR ourselves directly impacts those around us!!

Physical wellness isn't everything. 🙅🏼🙅🏼
In fact. I would argue that if you don't have your mental wellness as your #1 priority, your physical wellness will decline because of it.
And there's more coming. Politics, fires, and YOU NAME IT. There's a lot of stuff going on.😰
But we need to focus on the positives of this situation!!
This episode is such a timely message right now because I heard a few statistics the other day that FLOORED ME.
There was a study recently conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation that found the following:
✖️45% of Americans are being impacted by mental wellness issues.
✖️39% increase in anti-anxiety medications.
✖️19% increase in anti-depressants
I believe there is another phase of the pandemic - and that is the effect this pandemic will have on our long-term mental health.
This episode tackles a SOLUTION to the problem!!

Here's the truth about sleep.
Today I'm talking about the how your gut health affects your sleep health.
Did you know there is a direct link between stress and sleep?
Stress increases cortisol and lowers serotonin and in turn, that means a lack of melatonin.
Lack of sleep prevents you from being able to lose weight, increases stress and anxiety, and causes that imbalance in hormones that makes everything go out of whack.
Sleep is your right! It's time to reclaim it.

How are we treating others?
It all comes back to our health and wellness.
If we are protecting, if we are building our health and wellness at this time, we can better handle what is happening in the world.
It starts with US. With our mental state. How we process emotions. Our physical, mental and spiritual wellness are things we focus on within ourselves FIRST - we can better serve others.

Talking with another amazing guest today - Jeff Berger!
Jeffrey Berger from Buffalo New York, now lives in Cape Coral Florida with his husband Joshua and 3 children Zoie (Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier), Zoro and Zelda (two black cats).
Jeff was living with Type II Diabetes, stress anxiety and depression for over 15 years just managing under his doctors guidance. In late 2018 he worked with a life coach and came across several articles about reversing Type II Diabetes. Needless to say he was first very upset his doctor did not disclose this and secondly astonished that this could be reversed especially since his father, aunt and uncle all has passed away as a result of Type II Diabetes, heart disease and especially his dad having a partial leg amputation.
Jeff with this new knowledge made a decision to take control of his physical and mental wellness making daily changes working towards a new lifestyle.
He's since lost 60 lbs, reversed his type II diabetes and his journey continued with constantly making small incremental changes to live the rest of his life as healthy as possible both physical and mentally. His holistic journey continues!

In this episode I will be talking about why gut health is so important for your mental well being.
The fact remains that 80-90% of all the hormones in our body are made in the gut. These hormones include Serotonin, GABA, dopamine, estrogen, testosterone and thyroid hormone. Just to name a few.
When you reduce the inflammation in the gut you in turn are able to reduce the inflammation in the brain. Therefore reducing the incidence of mental wellness issues.
I'm also covering information about healing leaky gut and how that improves the communication between the gut and the brain. As well as the third brain which is the heart...creating blood flow allows for “flow” throughout the body.
Let's dig in!!

In this episode I’ll be talking about all of the reasons why poop is so important!
It’s an indicator of digestive wellness...clean those pipes on a regular basis
Eating enough fiber and staying hydrated will improve your regularity.
Going regularly releases toxins and bad bacteria & allows your body to be in a natural flow.
Not pooping can cause weight gain, brain fog, anxiety (yes, because you are holding on to the bad bugs), trouble sleeping, hormone imbalance and so much more!!
If not pooping is a part of your daily life this episode is for you!

Do you struggle with sleep?
Me too. It's been an issue for me for a long time.
Did you know that when you sleep less, your body actually has less time to detox?
Chronic sleep deprivation looks like...
❌Difficulty staying on task.
❌Lack of ability to focus in monotonous situations on repetitive tasks.
❌Falling asleep in school or during meetings at work.
❌Difficulty learning.
❌Mood changes like anxiety, depression or paranoia.
❌Decreased alertness while driving or operating dangerous machines.
Did you know that when we don't get enough sleep it can cause SERIOUS medical issues in our bodies?
Yup. Things as serious as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure or stroke.😲
Research also links lack of sleep to an increase of the stress hormone cortisol in the body!
A few tips to try to get that all important sleep in:
🌱Wake up at the same time every morning
🌿Avoid Naps
🌱Say NO to caffeinated beverages, nicotine and even some medications
Time to say NO to the hustle or die mentality and put sleep back on our list of priorities.

Do you suffer from debilitating migraines? 😣
The guest on my show @healthyguthealthymind spoke today on living with migraines for over 30 years.
She lived life in a fog for the better part of her life.
Cold washcloths.
Constant nausea.
Closed drapes.
Debilitating life for her family.
Cocktails of over the counter meds.
👉🏻We talked about the transformation that took place in her life and the life of her family, when her daughter was diagnosed with ADHD and they decided to embark on a journey towards gut health a year ago.
Her daughter showed all the same symptoms as her mom, and Michelle cried, thinking: "I gave them to her!"
This journey was to improve her daughter's health, but it turned out to be life changing for their entire family.
She never thought her life would change, but it did.
💫 Michelle has been migraine-free for the last year.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Marissa Brooke Donnell on my podcast and I'm sharing her story, the story of her family, her puppies and background on life. And there's so much powerful information here!
Here's a little sneak peek from Marissa herself:
"I know you all know Talon’s vaccine injury/autism story. But many of you who I’ve befriended over the last year may not know the obstacles Talon overcame before during and after all of that.
At my 20 week ultrasound, we found out Talon would be born with Fibular Hemimelia and Congenital Femoral Deficiency. His right leg had a fibula the size of a pin, his tibia and femur were shorter than the left, he had no ACL in his knee and no ankle bone. Many kids with these conditions are born with less than 5 toes and hip issues too but Talon thankfully escaped both of those.
From 12 months old to 4 years old, he had a total of 10 surgeries. 3 of which were planned/correctional surgeries. The other 7 were due to bone infections that stemmed from the surgeries. We’ve spent many many nights/weeks in hospital rooms. We’ve had to watch him roll into the OR more times than I’d like. But despite it all, he goes through life smiling and does not let his leg slow him down.
Originally, he was predicted to have a 12-14 cm length discrepancy at full maturity which would mean 2-3 leg lengthening surgeries. But by the grace of God, we’re only looking at a 3-5 cm discrepancy and 1 lengthening surgery OR a shortening of the other leg. We’re not sure why it went down so much (that’s not usually the case), but because of his autism he really doesn’t do well in the hospital so we are eternally grateful.
I’ve recently learned that kids with MTHFR should not have laughing gas before surgery and he’s had it at least 4-5 times. 2 times before his autism diagnosis, so could also be a contributing factor (as well as the anesthesia, antibiotics, crap food, etc).
Our 4.5 years with him so far have been an absolute roller coaster, but he has taught us patience, he has taught us how to stay positive in shitty situations and above all, his conditions have taught us to advocate for ourselves and our kids when we have a gut feeling that a doctor is wrong."

Sugar is literally killing you.
Some studies even claim it's as addictive as cocaine.
Consuming sugar releases dopamine which initially makes us feel great, but the crash afterwards can lead to fatigue and depression.
Most sugar is HIGHLY processed and we get sick more often because eating large amounts of sugar leads to an increased inflammation in our gut.
Why? We're FEEDING the bad bacteria what it wants.
And that's what this week's episode is all about on my podcast, "A better way to heal".

Featuring Guest: Monica Agana - owner of Savage Babe. Here's a little bit about her: "After years of experiencing physical abuse, constant bullying from other children at such a young age, societal pressures, and pursuing goals that others wanted me to pursue, it led me to feel feelings of ‘unworthiness’ & ‘never being good enough’ that lingered with me into my early 20’s. After years of working on myself (and still am, mind you), there was a breaking point where I finally grew the lady balls to break away from the chains of my past."
This week we're focusing in on what it means to "break free" and really empower, inspire and motivate other women to do the same thing for themselves and the women around them.

In this episode, "V" and I talked about the struggle of being an athletic female body type, her struggle with body image issues growing up, finding purpose and learning to love herself. She walks us through her struggles and personal experiences of competitive bodybuilding and the health challenges that no one ever talks about after the competition ends. ⠀
Veronica Tearney is now a college strength & conditioning coach with a passion for health and wellness. During her career as a fitness enthusiast and coach, Veronica has also written fitness and nutrition articles for a variety of publications, and strives daily to inspire a healthy, balanced lifestyle for her student-athletes, clients, husband and children based on her own experiences.
