The Fourth Journal follows the fascinating animated series Gravity Falls from beginning to end. Each Thursday hosts Beth and Daniel discuss an episode of the show, discuss running themes, reveal any puzzles/secret codes hidden in the background, and geek out in general about Alex Hirsch’s creepy yet charming fictional woodland town.
This week we learn about the Kings of New Jersey and meet a new Pines! We kind of go to therapy in this one, and we're sorry, but also you owe us $70.
Even though Stan is Not What He Seems, Dan and Beth are Exactly What They Seem, and what they seem is STRESSED
In this episode we talk about shipping Dipper/Pacifica (Dipcifica? Pac...pper?), creepy media from our childhoods and A N C I E N T S I N S
This episode is, like... fine? Like, it's fine. It's not our favorite, but it's not the worst. It could have been better if Disney weren't cowards, but like, it's fine.
Greetings from the year 207̃012, where everything is fine and nothing is wrong. Come, why don't you play laser tag with us? We promise you won't get sentenced to an endless torture dimension. Really.

Come in, weary traveler. Take a seat. Would you like this jackalope skull? No? How about this phonograph of the only known recording of Abraham Lincoln singing jazz? What's that? You're just here for a podcast? Well, alright. We've got an episode of The Fourth Journal in the bargain bin, if you really must. They're talking about Little Gift Shop of Horrors in that one. Are you sure you don't want this orange once held by a time traveling knight? Fine.
Hello, listener! We love you. You won't leave us, right? Not after everything we've been through. Right? RIGHT?
Ahem. Just kidding. Today's episode is "Soos and the Real Girl," and we find out that Japanese dating sims and animatronics aren't such strange bedfellows to keep. Especially not for your cousin Reggie's engagement party.
All our life we've been waiting for a love that's right for us, and now we finally know its name and it's – sing it with us, kids – season 2 episode 4 of Gravity Falls, "Sock Opera"! It's finally time for one of our favorite episodes, and BOY ARE WE PSYCHED. We've got Bill, we've got musical numbers, we've got Lonely Island voice talent. It's all here, folks. You can't do much better than this, especially after our least favorite episode maybe ever.
Hooray! Our least favorite episode! Have you ever wanted to see cartoon golf balls die in a commentary on Appalachia and the mining industry?? NEITHER HAVE WE. But that's what we got – along with some actually pretty okay Mabel/Pacifica interactions, a Patton Oswalt cameo, and way too many dark murder jokes! Like, WAY too many!
The spoop is really ramping up in this one, y'all. The gang is closer to the author than they've ever been, and the creepy crawlies that live in secret underground bases don't like that one bit. Meanwhile, Beth discovers that using codes are great for writing episodes of Gravity Falls but not so great for taking notes on them.
OH WOAH, PODCASTERS DO WHAT WE LIKE, OH WOAH, WE'RE TAKING OVER TONIGHT!
Welcome back friends & folks! We're back with the season 2 premiere, and it's got it all. Huge earth-shattering reveals! Nick Offerman! Harmonies that aren't really harmonies! We loved this one, and we hope y'all will too.
WELL HELLOOOOO, BILL! Everyone's favorite geometric chaos god is in town, and things will never be the same. Or will they? Has everything been the same this whole time? Has gif always been pronounced gif? We'll never know, and Bill will never let us find out.
We're back! Sadly, Gavin had to leave the show, but now we've got a DAN, and boy are we excited that they're here.
It's all synchronized dancing all the time as Gravity Falls goes boy band crazy with the arrival of Sev'ral Timez. Join Beth and Gavin as they discuss Beth's secret boy band past, the mind-blowing ship pairings on the infamous Gravity Falls Wiki, and grocery stores Gavin visited in Nashville.

It's freaky, but it certainly isn't Friday! Gavin and Beth discuss the body swapping episode of Gravity Falls, as well as going off on tangents about a delightful webcomic and a trilogy of straight-to-VHS flicks about tiny dinosaurs who live on a mini-golf course in one of the THREE MOVIES made about them.
Entertainment is weird.

Grab your water wings and find a good deck chair, it's time to go to the pool with the one episode y'all been waiting for. There's a merman at the Gravity Falls public pool and Mabel is immediately smitten!

Here it is, the least excited either of us have been to watch Gravity Falls. An episode featuring four disperate stories of little to no consequence serve basically as filler to continue the show along. It's the Leftover Night of cartoons.

We're up to the episode Boss Mabel, so what other episode description could I possibly use other than the best part of the episode?
Whoa, Yeah! Come on, girls Shoulder pads Make that money Mabel's the boss now

It's a shorter episode of Gravity Falls than normal... LITERALLY.
Yeah, there's shrinking in this one. Buckle up kids, this is a hot one (no, literally, I had to turn off fans and it got really hot in my room. Please validate my sweating for podcast glory - Gavin).

Bust out your favorite combos, this week Beth and Gavin tackle the Ready Player One of Gravity Falls: Fight Fighters! Dipper summons a character from a fighting game to help him beat up Robbie, but will he learn the true meaning of friendship?
Nah, but the art's pretty!

We're going back... to the fair! Stan has decided to throw the cheapest fair money can rent and Dipper has his heart set on impressing Wendy. Unfortunately he messes up, then stumbles across a time machine. Nothing could possibly go wrong, right?

Double your Dipper, double you paranoia! This week we get a deep look into the machinations of Dipper's mind as he clones himself 9 times over to create the perfect moment to talk to Wendy.
Meanwhile, Mabel meets some new friends and we get more of Pacifica Northwest... unfortunately.

Retreat to the least well-decorated room of the house, plop down in a smelly old recliner and turn on a trashy DVD, it's time to get MANLY down in Gravity Falls. This week Beth and Gavin discuss an episode in which Dipper learns the price of growing up too fast, and avoids becoming a man-child at the age of 12 through maturity and a conveniently-timed Abba knock-off CD.

Grab some tubed meat off the roller grill and fill up that Icee, Beth and Gavin are swinging by the Dusk 2 Dawn to discuss this week's episode of Gravity Falls. Dipper pretends to be a teenager, Mabel gets high on discontinued candy, and Stan comes to terms with watching a boring old movie.

Beth and Gavin have a brainwave as the Tent of Telepathy rolls into town, bringing antagonist Gideon Gleeful into Gravity Falls. This episode features more Mabel than previous entries, two lines from Wendy, and Gavin's shock at finding out there's not only a Gravity Falls roleplay with dozens of people in it... there's a wiki to keep track of their expanded universe.

Stan takes the kids fishing, but Dipper has his eyes set on photographing a monster and cash in the bounty set down by a local tabloid. This episode features the first real look at Old Man McGucket and no lines from Wendy, unfortunately.
