Australians seemingly sharing more and more of their information online with every passing day, cyber crime has become one of this country’s most common and dangerous threats. Recent hacking attacks on Apple and eBay have proved that cyber criminals are getting bolder with their targets. Add to this the fact that Australians are still transferring at least $7 million each month directly into the bank accounts of international fraudsters and it’s abundantly clear that cyber security needs to be top of mind for all of us.
New research shows that most Australians are not conscious of, or prepared to deal with, the current threats to their personal and financial information online. Among the research:
• Two in three Australians report they are unsure or not confident in the security of connections such as public Wi-Fi, even though 72% of Australians have used it in locations such as a café, shopping centre or an airport • Australian internet users are more concerned about deleting their browsing history (74%) than changing their passwords every six months (49%) • One in four families with young children (25%) report they still have little or no knowledge about protecting themselves online • One in five older Australians (20%) believe they have been a victim of an online scam or identify theft
Staying clear of the internet is not the answer - nor is it practical in this day and age. Being aware of current scams, viruses and other threats, as well as knowing how to protect yourself against them, is the key to everyday Australians staying a step ahead.

More than anything, take care of your health, but on top of that, love your family. Love your missus, or your partner, and your kids, because you don’t know how many days you've got. Don’t ever leave home angry at your spouse, or your partner, or your kids. Because you might not ever get a chance to say I'm sorry, I didn't mean that. For the guys, I know it’s a big thing for guys to give their kids stuff… but if you have to go, your kids aren't going to remember the stuff you gave them, they're going to remember you. So give them yourself. Give them your time. More than anything, spending time together is what matters.
