This episode is about a 'failure to launch': the most common biggest first-date mistakes. What is more stressful for you: the first date or a job interview? In both instances, you need to sell your personality. How to keep your authenticity and not scare away a potential new love? How to make the first date enjoyable and not stressful? How to define mistakes that are irreversible or can be forgiven? Being late, constantly checking your phone, focusing on yourself, coming too strong, lacking manners... there is no unifying recipe for a failure on the first date, but we can talk about it on our big Ole bed. How can religious/cultural/racial differences impact your relationships? What if your family or community does not support your choice due to historical or cultural experiences and/or prejudices? One of the toughest struggles in the dating process is to create an open line of communication about money. What if your partner is experiencing a job loss due to the pandemic or going through a career change? Can you openly talk about it? Would you feel diminished if you are dating someone who has more money/status than you? How do you feel about a partner who earns less and cannot afford to pay for dinner? Do you know what happens if you invite a writer, a comedian, a marriage therapist, a wellness coach, and a producer to the show and put them in one big ole bed? - you have an amazing episode of TalkItOver. And we are going to talk about the biggest fears in starting a new relationship.

Have you ever heard that the word FEAR is an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real? Basically, there’s no threat or risk of a failure in the present but our mind reconstructs an illusion based on the past experiences that prevent us from doing what is good for us. So are fears of starting a new relationship real? Are they so powerful that they prevent you from love? Are you afraid to be misunderstood, hurt, or get disappointed? Do you have a habit of self-sabotage? Have you ever analyzed why you have these fears in the first place? Can a reasonable amount of fear be healthy?

Enough of the introduction, now let's pull back the sheets...

If you have ever created a dating account, you know that most dating sites require a short story/bio to complete your profile. But must the story also be 100% true to be effective? Can lies assist you to attract the right one? Or will it be a big turn-off when the truth is revealed? Is any lie a deal-breaker? Or can a small exaggeration get a pass? What's the fine line between deception and embellishment? A Kaspersky survey of online daters from around the world found that over half of online daters lie. Why are so many people making up stories about themselves? Are dishonest daters, first of all, lying to themselves?

This hot topic raised even more questions, but we are not looking for the right answers, we just talking it over in our big ole bed, which keeps growing. Now let's pull back the sheets...

Can you have a full-on relationship with someone who is taken? What if you fell in love with a married man/woman? Is it an open relationship when all parties know what is going on? We always start our episodes with a feel-good story to create unity among the guests and the right mood for the question-of-the-day conversation.

This time, the story about JBJ Soul Foundation's initiative brought up by our co-host Maya-Mae engaged everyone in a 35 min stand-alone discussion about problems of homelessness in New York and beyond.

There are 57,341 homeless people, including 18,653 children, sleeping each night in the New York City municipal shelter system. New York City has more than 111,000 homeless students. Covid has only increased the size of the issue.

It just happened that our podcast guests are not only amazing human beings but in one way or another have been involved in community initiatives related to the homeless problem. And it is all started with talking it over in our Big Ole Bed. Now let's pull back the sheets...

For the first time in the history of the TalkItOver show, we are going to talk in our big ole bed about SEX. Why so many people are afraid to talk about sex while dating? Is it a bad habit to avoid this conversation to keep the mystery? How to address sensitive issues without making a wrong impression? Does talking about sex mean that you up for it? Should you lay it all right away on the table or keep it to yourself? Can the first sex fiasco with a new partner kill the future of this relationship? Does an intimate relationship start long before intercourse?

We are not subject matter experts, but we have a special guest, who is a professional. Jenn Infantino is in the building. She is a 2019 graduate of Layla Martin's VITA™ Coaching program, an engineer, an artist, and a Pleasure Goddess.

There are multiple ways to break up. It appears that texting is not the worst method of all. There are Facebook, WhatsApp, Email, phone call, ask a friend-options that can be equally painful... How to end your relationship in a less harmful way? Does this way even exist? How to handle a break-up in an abusive relationship? Will the remote breakup come in handy? How to navigate your emotions and communication during pandemics? How to see the end of relationships as an opportunity and re-direction to better yourself? How to not let rejection define you but find lessons in you?

Is marriage still seen as an essential step in a successful life? According to the Pew Research Center only about half of Americans over age 18 are married. This is down from 72% then we had 40 years ago, while divorce rates have been significantly raising especially among older Americans.

So, is Marriage still a goal? Why are men and women shying away from commitment? Is it a natural fear of rejection or being controlled? Could we see it as a positive trend? What if a delay in marriage allows young people to avoid mistakes, first learn about themselves before being responsible for another person’s life? Could it be that marriage in its traditional way is no longer the answer to the human desire for connection and belonging? Or is it still a social contract?

We are not trying to find the right answers. We are just talking it over in our Big Ole Bed and we have perfect guests, who happened to be marriage supporters... Now let's pull back the sheets...

While we are fast approaching the holiday season, it comes with the pressure of meeting with the family and socializing. Imagine on top of that you are planning to invite your significant other to the family gathering for the first time? Have you discussed it with your beau? What if your celebration-styles don’t match? What if your partner doesn’t like holidays or doesn't like your family? Do you need to make a choice and spend a holiday season with your partner or your family? Ultimately, holidays are often the test for relationships — it's actually the most common time of the year for couples break-up.

Before going deep into the topic let's clarify the semantics: courting vs dating. What comes first? What term has a more serious connotation and consequences? Is it fair to your potential and yourself to be committed to monogamy from the first date? Or is dating a numbers game? At what stage of 'courting'/'dating' do two or people need to communicate their expectations and set the boundaries? Why is this conversation difficult for some? How do different attachment styles affect your dating behavior?

What to do if you are dating someone who is on the opposite side of the political, cultural and/or religious spectrum? Would you date someone who didn’t share your political beliefs and voted for the "other guy"? It might have been harder to do during the current nontraditional presidency, but can we still listen to each other and cherish our shared values? Following famous JFK words: "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" - can two people live, love and serve their community together despite their different party affiliation? Can you talk it over and continue to cultivate and nurture the relationship? Does a deep-dive conversation always help?

Well... 50 min definitely is not enough for such a hot topic but we are not trying to find the right answers. We are just talking it over in our Big Ole Bed and we have amazing guests for a very frank conversation. Now let's pull back the sheets...

Tit for Tat: who really does play the most games (innocent or otherwise) in courtship? According to some statistics, females give false names, males give a false relationship status. Females lie about their weight, guys lie about the height... Why do people lie when they are dating, especially dating online? Is dishonesty a part of human nature? The topic of today's episode is: How to balance/choose between the desire to travel and being in relationships. What happens if your partner wants to settle down and not excited about the next flight and a hotel stay? What if your partner cannot travel with you, will you stay? Travel is supposed to broaden the perspective...can travel help you understand who you are? Do some people choose travel vs relationships to escape from the existing reality and run away from themselves? How to find the balance?

The same as last week, before jumping to a regular discussion, we invited our old and new guests of the show to reflect on the current social unrest and injustice. We welcome your opinion too. Please share your thoughts and join the conversation here or on Facebook or Instagram @talkitover.show.  Now let's pull back those sheets!

The topic of today's episode is: How to create a healthy well-balanced relationship with your parents? What if you are dating while living with your parents? What if your parents are too involved in your personal life? How to set boundaries? Is it your or your partner's responsibility? But before pulling back the sheets and jump to a regular discussion, we'd like to start our episode with the team's temperature check and reflection on the current social unrest and injustice.

The summer is over and let's admit, we are facing September with even stronger issues and uncertainty. The show is about building relationships and it includes a skill of having a conversation beyond dating and being able to freely speak about problems that affect our lives on a larger scale. We welcome your opinion, please share your thoughts and join the conversation here or on Facebook or Instagram @talkitover.show.

According to Max Baucus: "A true definition of compromise – a little give, a little take”. As stated by Elitesingles.com: "Reaching a compromise is a chance to expand your emotional intelligence and capacity for empathy." Is the winning formula in compromise to incorporate both of your needs to create a new version? How to know when to compromise in a relationship and when to say no? What is a healthy compromise? What is your first reaction when you hear: "We Need To Talk"? Are you in trouble? How to address sensitive issues without hurting your partner's feelings? How to maintain healthy relationships and develop positive communications while raising unpleasant topics in personal life/work/family? According to a relationship coach Dr. Susan Edelman: "When you can express yourself to your partner in a constructive way, it often brings you closer together. You’re not likely to feel understood if you can’t tell your partner how you feel."

Are there certain sensitive topics that you should bring up with your potential significant other when you start courting? When is the best time to begin to talk it over?

Should you be the most important person in your significant other's life? We all agree that great relationships don't happen by itself, they require constant work and effort. Does this involve prioritizing your partner before anything else: before Friends, before Family, before Children? If you met "the love of your life', does that mean that the majority of your time and attention must be devoted to him/her? Is it ok to tuck away some of your own goals and aspirations because something has to give?

While the summer temperature outdoor is rising, the TalkItOver team and friends are getting together to check up on the team's temperature. Dealing with Coronavirus since March has been a big test for everyone's sanity and well being, but it’s certainly not the only unprecedented challenge we’re facing right now. The social unrest we are witnessing in the US for the last couple of months revealed a bigger virus that we have been dealing for centuries.

Although the show is about dating and relationships, we decided that we cannot avoid this conversation that is affecting our lives and relationships on a much larger scale. Now let's pull back the sheets...

"...dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!" - Dr. Peter Venkman, Ghostbusters. Can dogs live with cats? Do you think a dog person and a cat person can date and get along as a couple? Are you a cat person or a dog person and does it influence your dating life? According to some surveys, a dog person is more outgoing, enthusiastic and easy to get along, while a cat person is likely to be curious, independent, and more prone to worry than dog people. How to know if you’re dating a momma's boy? There’s a difference between a man who is close to and loves his mother and a man who is still clutching his mother's apron strings. He still lives with his mom, needs her approval in everything, sleeps in a twin bed with Star Wars sheets and cannot do his own laundry... how do you deal with that? What about dating a daddy's girl? Should one expect the same issues? The Pew Research Center discovered that shockingly the majority of millennial men can be classified as momma's boys. The study found that about 35 percent of males between the ages of 18 and 34 live with a parent - just compare it to 28 percent of that same age group that lives with a partner. This means more guys are choosing to live with mommy and daddy rather than with their romantic partners. Surprisingly, the trend does not hold true for millennial women.

How long before we reveal our true selves in a relationship? What is the timeline for the second-first impression? We are just talking it over in our individual beds, as the Talk It Over team takes social distancing very seriously. Now let's pull back the sheets...

Times are changing and so are some rituals and rules of courting. The older generation keeps saying that the way millennials date can’t be called “dating”...well, wait until Gen Z starts setting dating trends. What was once unacceptable is considered to be the norm today and vice versa. How has dating changed through ages? How are people from different generations adapting to new realities? We've been lucky to get together an amazing group of people in our big ole beds to discuss this hot topic. We are not subject matter experts we are merely talking it over and sharing experiences: What do you miss about the dating of 70s and 80s?  What has most surprised you in this new dating reality?  Where do you see it going? Now let's pull back the sheets...

It is probably the best time to validate cliche phrases like: 'Love knows no boundaries or distance'... or 'When two or more people are meant for each other, no distance is too far, no time is too long', and no virus outbreak can break them apart. While dating or looking for love in the era of social distancing, what new measures should we take? Can we look at a new unfortunate reality as an opportunity to be creative in finding new ways to maintain relationships, communicate on a deeper level, learn to talk it over and become more intimate without physical contact? Perhaps it's time to dust off the old book "Love in the time of cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez or as we can now apply to call it "Love in the time of the coronavirus".

Does age really matter that much in dating/relationship? Do couples with large age gaps experience poorer relationship outcomes? What is an acceptable range when it comes to our own relationships? What if age has nothing to do with the success of a relationship, which much rather depends on the extent to which partners share similar values, goals and lifestyles? So is age just a number? We are not subject matter experts and not trying to find the right answers. We are just talking it over in our 'Big Ole bed'... in our individual beds actually, as the Talk It Over team takes social distancing very seriously. Now let's pull back the sheets...

At what stage, if any, should you know all of your significant other's friends? When should you meet his/her parents? According to new data from dating app Hinge, millennials bring their dates home to meet mom and dad after 10 or more dates, or a little more than two months into the relationship on average. Although, relationship experts are recommending to wait at least five to six months until it's a serious, committed relationship. Is there ever a "right time" to meet the parents? And what about close and not so close friends? Do they need to know and how soon? What does it say about your partner if he/she doesn't want to be introduced or hesitant to let you into his/her inner circle? Can you live with this? Tough questions... but we are not trying to find the right answers, we are just talking it over in our 'Big Ole bed'.
