Anyone else going through a one third life crisis? 😅.. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying a Japanese Drama on Netflix called “Turn to me Mukai-Kun” - still don’t understand the meaning of the title, but highly recommend! So many powerful and thought provoking comments on society, relationships, and life in general.
I just got back from visiting my hometown Adelaide and I’ve noticed so many things that I think are unique in my hometown.
A hectic week of deaths, witnessing a certification of death, and seeing the dead come alive.
I chat about what I do for work as a late Clinical General Medicine Pharmacist! Going to metcalls, covering the whole hospital, and admissions!
I’ve finally reset my password and have access to podcasting! I have so much to say and not enough time😭. I need to update you on how I lost my phone in China :(, got gastro in Japan, and then had to run to all the emergency metcalls at work 😱. Please look forward to weekly episodes from now 💕.
Sooo many things have happened since I was sick 😷.. I got a house mate, I got a permanent position at my job, anddd I realised I have not started packing for my overseas trip 😱..
I have been sick as a dog these last few days.. so apologies for my slightly more nasally and American (?) sounding voice 😂… I am finally renting out my place to someone else and I am not looking forward to sharing my space 🥲.. but alas I need the money. I also update you on my crazy neighbours and all the money I spent on cameras to catch them doing illegal stuffs…
Basically I tell you about the struggle of my week.. dealing with lack of sleep, pimples, weight gain, and my crazy neighbours are back again and stealing my water! Thinking about burnout again and realising I have less tolerance for toxic people and behaviours.
It’s been a tough week 😭😭… So many decisions to make… and not enough sleep doesn’t help… Also, I gave up on recycling my 10 cent bottles…
Should we take advantage of the “fresh start” we call a NEW year? Do you have New Year resolutions? Whether to get healthy, eat healthier, or to work out more.. we all try our best at the start and then maybe it goes down hill from there 🤪. See my resolutions this year by going to howtoadultwithjoy.wordpress.com
Merry Belated Christmas ~! How was your Christmas? I’ll tell you all about mine back in my hometown.. I experienced some FOMO while I was away… also the new year is coming.. I talk about some new year resolutions.
I went to the most extra wedding In Melbourne 😌. No expense spared… bubble tea, ramen, yuzu cocktails, indoor fireworks, live muscians…personalised tote bags and rave sticks?!? They really went all out 😂.. it’s almost Christmas and I am super unprepared this time😅😅… and I chat about new year resolutions and also reflect on some positive things from this year including the growing of my food blog 🙂🙂.
Huge recommendation to check out the recent podcast by Life Uncut - where th why interviewed a honour killing survivor- Nina 🥲. Such a tragic story and I hope that honour killing can stop soon 😔.
A very jam-packed solo podcast episode… Talking all about my experience at the Yiruma concert and whinging about the people next to me. i also spoil more of the show “My daily dose of sunshine” ..still highly recommend! I also discuss whether I think healthcare professionals should still be able to work if they are physically and mentally unwell.. 🤔 And alas I’ve finally done my presentation ❤️…
This is my Netflix recommendation- My daily dose of Sunshine! A show that hits you in the feels like a wrecking ball. However, lots of trigger warning in the show and this episode. So please skip if depression or suicide is a trigger for you.
Ever shared a house with a stranger? Welp, this is my experience of living with someone I don’t know well and experiencing all sorts of angst, repressed feelings, and self control +++. What’s your worst experience with a housemate?
My personal experience in the Melbourne Public Health System in the Emergency Department 😅😅😊…
This episode involves a lot of talk about 💩 and 🩸 so be-aware! I went through my first colonoscopy and gastroscopy.. The preparation for it was terrible and I highly recommend you take time off while you are fasting and don’t get hypoglycaemia like I did 😓… get ready for your butt to be on fire and also have stomach pain after the procedure.. have you guys been through one?
Here I talk about my busy one day weekend .. starting off with my first ever invite to a soft opening of a new arcade in Melbourne called Akiras! (Check it out on my ig: eating_with_joy). I also binge watch two movies as this is their last week as part of the Japanese Film Festival. I compare “The lines that define me” and “We made a flower bouquet”.. Two completely different movies and with different life lessons… As a person easily influenced I want to take Japanese ink painting now thanks to the first movie. The second movie just really made me reflect and think about my past relationships and how .. you gotta really watch out for toxic people 😅…
Have you ever had someone damage your property?!? Then you try to tell the police..but they are useless 🙄
Went to my first ever concert In Melbourne! It was absolutely out of this world magical experience… it’s been so long since I felt music that touched my soul and remember why I love music so much.
I am back after two weeks! Today we go through how it feels like to have depression- can you feel happiness or are you always sad? I also talk about my recent brunch I won for 4 people! Follow my ig page: eating_with_joy to see my restaurant reviews!
Alas, this girl is sick again! But apparently it’s not covid this time… and it’s not hayfever either 🙄🙄…
I had the most tumultuous weekend where the cat I was cat-sitting broke my screen door ran away.. I was super anxious and spent hours looking for him🥲🥲…

I attended my first ever in person foodie meet up! So cool to meet the actual people behind the beautiful food photos and reels on Instagram 🥰… it was a little awkward as we had random people attend our event… but it didn’t go to plan 😭… follow my ig page: eating_with_joy

I don’t plan to have kids😅 it’s so expensive! I can barely afford to survive on my own 🥲. Physically and mentally I don’t feel like I am fit to be a mother😅.. but don’t get me wrong I love playing with my niece and nephew ❤️..what are your thoughts of having a kid? Leave a comment in reviews ✌️
1 week post surgery and finally have my bandages off my ear and have FINALLY been able to wash my hair again 🎉! I’ve never felt so gross in my life! Also been having night sweats every nighttt.. not sure why😅
Had my keloid ear surgery this week! Been waiting for months to have it done and have been eagerly waiting for work to give me time off to do it 😓😓.. you would be surprised what was the worst part of this ordeal 🤣🤣…
Recently I have been dealing with more patients than I have ever… patients be suddenly deteriorating and I can almost know and feel when a patient is going to die..😅😅 . Went back to the neurologist again and this time I am finally able to move onto injectable medications for my migraines.. Not sure if I am confident enough to do them myself.. and my first time spending Easter not in Adelaide…
Hmm how do you think a beggar looks like? Did you ever think it would look like a 30 something working professional working in a hospital? Well it is.. I’ve never been so broke.. and I struggle to save any money after all my mortgage, medical, insurance, and bills are paid 🥲.. this is the life of a modern day beggar.. in the society where mortgage rates go up.. but our wages do not.
New hospital rotation headaches 😭.. no swipe card access for 3 days? Having to do lunch cover? No staff to cover? No stock? Desk in the middle of the nurses station? Literally listen to me whinge about being a hospital pharmacist for 30 minutes 😂.. someone please offer me another job with same or higher pay please 🙏🏻..
Being oncall screwed up your mental health, sorry, and your normal working day… It’s the most harsh thing to impose upon someone and I don’t understand how you can still work during the day and have to do it at night.. literally No work life balance..and no time off. It made me realise..Do I really want this life for myself? What can I do otherwise?
The joys of hosting my first ever house warming party and noticing all the strange things that guests do and don’t do… and would I do it again? P.S Happy Valentines Day!

Do you ever see a friends instagram story and feel jealous that you weren’t invited to their party or event? Do you feel like you wouldn’t have enjoyed it anyway but still would’ve like the invite anyways? SAME… FOMO or Fear of missing out is So relevant especially during Christmas and New years 😌.
I can’t believe I haven’t updated for soo long 😅. This podcast I talk about my experience seeing a neurologist for the first time and compare their weaning plans..
Seems like lotsa stuff happened between me getting covid, moving, going to hospital again, and my parents visiting! Tune in for a long rambling session with life advice thrown in randomly. Also, recording this while sick for the 3rd time in a month 😌
Last day before I move out of my 1 room studio apartment into the unit I bought!! I talk about what I wish I knew about moving… and suggest don’t move if you can help it 😌
Dealing with FOMO, boredom, procrastination, and the things that need to get down with upcoming move 😅.. i also watch more anime 😂
I describe the difference between the first and second time getting covid. Isolating at home with your family vs isolating alone in your apartment. I also spoil/review the Studio Ghibli movie ‘Princess Kaguya’ and ramble about things to claim for in our tax returns…
I talk about dryers, how to save money using giftcards, and other random stuff in between on preparing to move.
Apparently it is normal to get depression after buying a house .. especially when you feel like you have rushed it like I did 😅. I also talk about sickness, work anxiety, and more depressing things 🤣
Well i bought a unit to be more precise.. but I am so happy!!!!!!!! Settlement date is set for August 1st!!!!
Today was a shit day! So many things went wrong 🥹🥹.. but at least I discovered Terrace House and that a nearby bubble tea shop makes a pretty good watermelon smoothie 😋
We crave affection when we live alone or feel lonely overall. I explore why we may feel this way and what we could do about it. Plus I ramble a lot about my frozen shokupan and things I want to make 😂
Like it or not we contain the genes and DNA of our parents! We inevitably become more and more like them as we grow up! It’s not always a bad thing though! Stay tuned till the end about my update on my (lack of) a love life. 🥲
Reflecting on my 2nd genmed team, Genmed Echo.. full of falls, UTis, neuropathic pain, and all sorts of random things. I also talk about my latest Netflix binge- Hospital Playlist
It’s a wrap on my six month mental health rotation 🥳! It’s both sad and exciting to move onto the rotation..general medicine
I just finished the Netflix series love and fortune and basically spoil the whole movie. So don’t listen unless you are happy to have it ruined 🤣
Rest In Peace Paul. Thanks for being my first badminton coach :). I’ll always remember Sturt training days as a memorable time with you. Take care in heaven. Here I also blab on about all the dramas i’ve just finished or am watching on my one month Netflix account…
I think I skipped a day somewhere whoops. Nothing much happened that day I think.. except brother got swabbed and if came back negative!! Today should be the last day of isolation, fingers crossed!! Also, I get from work from home for the first time. So luxurious!
Still have a blocked nose, a croaking voice, and fatigue?! But it’s also so hot in Adelaide 😅😅 . My mum gets a phone call from SA health to check up in her finally!! And I hope my internet works this Thursday and Friday.. as I’ll try working remotely 😰
Cough has improved significantly… sore throat still kinda there.. fatigue ++ but could be coz its 36 degrees and I have no aircon in my room! Booked my return flight to Melbourne.. fingers crossed I Can fly. I also got checked up by covid isolation officer :0. Still no calls from SA health 😅
Lingering cough and fatigue. But.. my parents have both got it too 😌. Only my brother remains negative.
My brothers laptop dies on me..:(. My mum thinks she’s showing symptoms of covid and gets tested at 5am?! And I order takeaway and its so expensive 🥲
I finally use e-rx for the first time! I get meds delivered to my house! I also need to work out how to improve the cough at night, let’s see if my asthma inhaler helps!
Had shitty sleep yesterday due to the cough 😷 waking me up 😅😅😅. Unfortunately I was not given an medicine to treat it 😅😅🤣. I list what books I plan to re-read during this covid time and also what dramas I will watch. I also plan to change my clothes 🤣
A really hangry rant about covid .. and the failures of people and the health systems. Slowly getting better physically 😅 but mentally declining 😅
Changing of symptoms from vomiting to diarrhea 😅. Please avoid raw fish while having covid… and also be careful how much you buy online 😅😅. I also start watching a Netflix Show with someone else’s account -Racket boys- a show about badminton 😍
I got covid 😅😅🤣.. just got my results today… currently isolating st my parents in South Australia. Let me take you into the journey of a covid positive patient..
I mean who is counting anyways right? Melbourne is in their 6th lockdown, while I haven’t even gone out of the 5th one yet...
I can’t believe I have lived here for one year on my own already. Cheers to me! Time to reminisce all the lonely times in lockdown and the not too bad times.😌
Today, sparks a day in a long time where I was yelled at for being Asian and apparently “closing the door on someone”. I swear I meet the craziest bat shit people in hospital (staff and patients, patient’s family). Don’t let anyone be racist to you! Stand up to them (when it’s safe to do so). I also talk about the other surprising things that happened to me today.
The lockdown had been extended until the 27th of July 😅😅😅..I talk about how I feel about that and all the stressors in my life, in a big whinge fest kind of way.😂
I discovered the purposes of rangehoods and shower fans... and that you should always leave them on for at least 15 fo 20 minutes after showering and cooking!
A confession to make, detailed events of Phillip Island, life learnings from trip-Wave analogy, and a pondering of my future life social decisions.
Annual leave has been a sad time, I wasn’t able to go back to my home town to see my family in Adelaide. :( I was stuck in Melbourne the whole time and unfortunately experienced a broken heart during this time too. I rant and I also make some plans for myself to help heal my broken heart.
I get covid swabbed for the first time since the pandemic started! The thrills, boredom, and sadness of being in quarantine while waiting for an unknown amount of time for the results is sad.
Death. Let’s talk about death rip 🪦... It’s a natural part of life, but I feel like no one really talks about it and its so taboo. :(. But honestly, death around us shapes us to be who we are today and who we will become. Another question for you is, do you feel like you have lived life to an extent where you would be happy to die now?
Never have I ever faced a dying patient on my ward, until this week that is. In a week full of struggles, difficulties, and most of all Imposter Syndrome.. I really wonder what my role is. It seems to me that I am doing a lot of stuff not even related to my degree. On the other hand, I get told off for trying to tell other people what to do. Why is life so hard sometimes?!
I am back! After a long weeks I am here to rant about how tired I am and how I became who I am now. Please note there maybe some pretty dark things shared in this episode, so please be prepared for that.
I recently went to Sydney during my annual leave! It was an epic 4 day trip of constant eating several meals and desserts in one day! I had so much fun catching up with my friends and also pretending I was on an overseas adventure! I know we can’t travel overseas now, but it makes it nicer when I discover that Australia is very beautiful. Please check out my Instagram page for more details on my food adventures. Username: eating_with_joy
I finally got my new credit card in the mail! Woohoo 🥳. Here I discuss the pros and cons of having a credit card and compare two different credit cards 😂
Do you find music moves you? Do you have recollection of things that happened in your life and the so called “themesongs” or songs that you constantly listen to during those times? And it resounded with you and dtuck with you?
I reflect on this week in this weeks recording. It’s been a tough week this week, with some pretty big discharges and preparation for my patients moving between hospitals and going to rehab. I reflect on what I have learnt do far and also what I hope to improve on. I enjoy working with the intern doctors who have an amazing and admirable work ethic and ethos.
In this slightly shorter episode, I discuss my own blood test results and my concerns of what the implications are. I also did some training with a new coach. I’ve also decided to start buying frozen meal packs instead of groceries 🤣
Follow me on my new food blog on Instagram: eating_with_joy . I also rant about the first movie I watched in Melbourne, the foods I ate, and also why I’ve been so busy NOT updating this podcast and my blog. LOL.
Feeling a bit low and burnt out this week, I investigate why I feel this way and what I should do go get out of my rut.
Here I waffle on about what I consider my personal adulting mildstones...plus i also have a coughing fit at the end.. I swear its not covidddd 🤞
Self-diagnosed and self-treated eye infection 😅😅😅... that damn hayfever caused my eyes to become so itchy and I probably rubbed my eyes too much.🙄.. like a noob. I also discuss the chaos at work due fo unplanned sick leave 😅.. trying to multitask is hard 🥺🥺🥺
I have become a Victorian Driver. In my induction to Victorian drivers club, I have been tailgated, cut in front, and honked at several times today. In other breaking news, I try to transfer my gym membership from an interstate gym... I also then attempt fo get new contact lenses only to be told my prescription is too old and they can’t see me before the end of the year sadly. Life is hard. Adulting is hard. Life goes on. 🤪
Finally found some pros that are willing to play with. I go down memory lane about my journey playing badminton and reflect on what a big part of my life it is.
Disappointed in my first Door Dash order for a Unagi bentou from Rice Workshop :(. Flexing my new muscles thanks to grocery shops.
So the strictest lockdown in Australia has just ended at midnight yesterday, much earlier than the predicted 6 days it would last. While, Adelaidians breathe a big sigh of relief, the Woodville pizza shop holds a bated breath as it deals with potential vandals to it’s premises...
All eyes are on South Australia as they enter one of the strictest lockdowns in the world for the next 6 days..:0
Hmm.. been my Mums’s missing home made meals for the longest time ... cooking my is food is good, but having someone cook for you is 😍😍😍
How are you supposed to have a blood nose when you have a mask on? Why Hayfever is the most evil thing ever... and other random complaints about AUSPOST failures.
Congratulations to the new President and Vice President of the United States of America!! Woohoo!! This episode I ramble on about the best Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) in Melbourne, Webtoons, the Election, and the joys of having two screen monitors to use. 🤣🤣
As I record this episode, Melbourne restrictions on movement and on retail have been mostly lifted! Hurray! But, it doesn’t mean that Covid-19 has died, it is still around and no one wants a third wave :(. I also talk about the anime that I started watching, which is sooo good! It’s called “Your lie in April”! Highly recommend if you haven’t already watched it..
Finishing off the last sentence from Part 1. In this episode I talk about “Lucy” the Sci-Fi movie which I watched on Netflix recently..
Accidentally cut this podcast in half because the timer went off on my phone... and then it auto stopped recording 🤣🤣🤣.. What kind of Hard do you choose?
Do you eat with your eyes? Somehow I do and I feel super nauseated when I see something that looks disgusting 🤮....
I was born not to be in the kitchen. Seriously, how and why do I keep setting off the smoke alarm? P.S I finally got a bamboo sushi mat!
New series of blogs that will be a fanfiction of my life. 🤣🤣 Have you ever fallen for a scammer’s scam? I almost did :0
What to do when you can’t sleep? Record a podcast about what you want in a dream house..
Do you think I can win masterchef with my frozen eel, frozen takoyaki, panfried tofu, rice, Chinese Brocolli, Chinese sausage with onion and garlic bentou?
Finally finished the 100 items competency thing I had to do for my new job. Hurrah! Here’s to more stress and responsibilities!
Have you ever unknowingly forgot to wear a mask in public and when you realise your shame, you feel so vulnerable...why didn’t anyone tell you?
Cooking to survive. Cucumber, apple, and avocado salad with chicken nuggets. !! No real cooking required!
Thought I would share how I am surviving on my lack of cooking skills and laziness to go shopping. See cover for today’s episode as an example of what I cooked!
In this exciting and super long episode... I have my first virtual guest on the show! I tried out the online collab option on Anchor and hopefully it turns out alright! Frank and I discuss whether being early or late for a date will determine the future of that potential relationship... tune in to the end to hear the secret code word!
Exploring Melbourne is great. Not so great when there are spontaneous protests held all around Melbourne. Stay safe and stay away from Springvale!
Just another random update on the shenanigans of lockdown iso-life in Melbourne. Secretly spying on my neighbours, eating canned food, and thinking about how people look better with masks on.... and why do people keep wearing them wrong?! #rage
I spent a lot of money in my first few days in Melbourne buying things that I thought I might need... but actually never ended up using them! Just buy what you need instead of having stuff there “in case” you need it someday. Save your money and heartache when you have to throw it out coz its expired!
Achievement unlocked- making salmon skin CRISPY and blaming your imaginary friends for using and not replacing the last toilet roll..
Sorry I have been so lazy to update this.. recorded this when I was about to sleep so apologies for the random stuff I said! As I post this I am sitting in the carpark at work. LOL
Felt like I should start a new series detailing my everyday life in Melbourne Victoria, which is currently in strictest lockdown Australia has seen so far during the pandemic. We are required to wear masks everywhere we go and many of the non-essential services have been closed. We can only for out for essential reasons like shopping, medical care, and to get tested. We are also allowed one hour a day to get exercise. We under a curfew at 8pm till 5am, where we can’t leave the house except for in an emergency or for essential work.
In this episode we interview Andrew, who is currently working as a radiographer. He gives us the low down on the typical daily life of a radiographer and the ups and downs of this profession. We also speak to him about his side hustles as an author, bloggers, and podcaster.
This kick starts my mini series of inviting guests to come talk about what they are currently studying or working in. In this particular episode I talk with a budding Pilot Dominic Tam about how he got into the aviation industry and what motivated him to study to become a pilot. Learn all about planes and the journey to become a pilot! Visit howtoadultwithjoy.com for more on careers!
Back in 2013, I happened to be in Japan at the same time my favourite Jrock band was doing a tour. This is my recount of my first time being at a Jrock concert and also how it felt to shake their hands!
Did you know I was part of a rock band once? It was a short stint.. but I played with a Japanese Rock Cover band for one performance as a keyboardist.. listen in on how it went..!
