Going back to the early aughts and our groups very first encounters with Comic-Con, there has always been one thing that you can count on to be great in every way… the DC Animated Movie Premiere! That’s right, for many of us Comic-Con goers, the very first signs that comic books were about to hit the mainstream were watching those very same books, not just superheroes, leap from page to screen. This all started with the 2007 release of Superman: Doomsday a faithful adaptation of the Death of Superman event that saw the death and resurrection of the worlds greatest and 1st superhero. It was a glorious event that was celebrated with SWAG, exhibits, a world premier and panel. Since that awesome night, SDCC has seen many fan favs like, Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, Flashpoint Paradox, and The Killing Joke.

Launched as a Saturday morning cartoon in 1969, writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears AKA “Ruby-Spears” created the original series “Scooby-Doo, Where are you!” for Hanna-Barbara Productions where it would go on to produce countless cartoon series spinoffs, animated and live action films. Actor Matthew Lillard first got our attention as the killer accomplice “Stuart” in the hit horror movie Scream. But what Matthew is synonymous for is as Scooby’s two legged BFF “Shaggy”. He’s the first actor to portray “Shaggy” in the 2002 live action hit Scooby-Doo (written by James Gunn) with the all star cast of Freddie Prince JR.Sarah Michelle Gellar and Linda Cardalini. Since that one-screen debut, Matthew has gone on to reprise his “Shaggy” in a live action sequel and voiced the character about 50 more times in various animated movies and shows.
Comedian, actress and musician Kate Micucci has 154 IMDB credits. She’s funny, cute as a button and plays a wicked banjo! Besides all that, she has voiced “Velma” 18 times going back to 2015 in various animated TV films and shows.

Maybe you don’t know Rob Paulsen, but you know Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs, “Raphael” & “Donatello on the original TMNT, G.I Joe, Transformers, and most of the other animated projects that Paulsen has been part of as a voice actor for nearly three decades. With over 2,000 (yes, that’s right) half-hour programs and dozens of films, video games, and other animated media to his credit, Rob Paulsen has been one of the hardest working, most in-demand, and most beloved voice artists in the industry, earning (so far) a Daytime Emmy and Peabody, 3x winning the Annie Award (for voice actors) and author of his memoir Voice Lessons. Hulu has just started airing all new episodes of Spielberg’s Animaniacs. The show which was introduced to millennials 30 years ago returns with original cast including Rob voicing "Yakko".

In a dramatic shift from the glorified violence of the 80’s action movie, the 1990’s evolved through the Tarantino cool violence, to the Mann brooding violence and finally the Spielberg valor of violence to highlight the absurdity of it’s glorification and remorse for Hollywood's comically high body counts.
Yes, the 90’s were a great time to be movie goers and through it all, was our guest, Tom Sizemore who co-stared with some of the era’s all-time great actors and worked with the era’s best directors and writers for films including; TrueRomance, Heat and SavingPrivateRyan. Unlike their 80’s counterparts, the 90’s movies that we celebrate today don’t get nostalgic reboots or decades later sequels. But, because of the facilitating discussion that they inspire they do allow us to understand the violence, why it was performed and maybe uncover what could have been done instead. What is it about that magical Saturday morning animation that took our attention, sparked our imaginations and created a popular culture that we celebrate today?
The debate begins and to help us draw to a few conclusions we have an animation heavyweight in Aaron Augenblick founder of Brooklyn based Augenblick Studios, an independent animation studio. Notable productions include The Jellies!, Losers, UglyAmericans, ShortiesWatchin’ Shorties and WonderShowzen. Augenblick co-wrote and directed the 2007 short film GoldenAge, which was an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival and won the Grand Prize in the Ottawa Film Festival. To relax a little, Augenblick Studios animated two episodes in Netflix’s HeadspaceGuidetoMeditation series that takes viewers through the benefits and science of meditation and has now focused his attention to developing original content at HBO Max, Adult Swim, TBS, and PBS. He created the horror-comedy series DeathHacks for Snapchat, which debuted in Fall 2020 and has animated and produced the upcoming Adult swim half-hour comedy series TeenageEuthanasia that will premiere next year. Whoa, that’s a lot, so let's get to it!

From Roots to Battle of the Network Stars to Geraldo opening Capone's vault, you'd be hardpressed to find a better example than V: The Original Miniseries, the two-part sci-fi primetime event written and directed by Kenneth Johnson (Bionic Woman) and starring Marc Singer (Beastmaster) -- both of whom we happened to talk with at SDCC 2019! Debuting in 1983, V is an allegorical (and unnervingly relevant) story of America facing the spectre of populism and facism on its own shores. From lizard aliens though, so it's more entertaining than the news.
Spawning the follow up miniseries V: The Final Battle (2xSMC guest Michael Ironside) and V: The Series, V is still celebrated around the world, especially in Spain(!?), and our appetite for more has now been satisfied with news that V: The Movie, by original writer and director Kenneth Johnson with Marc Singer returning to his iconic role as Donovan, is already in the works!
The Original Miniseries has now been remastered with updated special FX, 5.1 surround sound, presented in 1.5:1 aspect ratio.
