Ro gets together with fellow collector Ray (@Tresob) to talk exit strategy. What do we do with all this junk? We've all spent some time amassing our own Raiders of the Lost Ark warehouse full of collectibles, but have we learned to be more precise or disciplined in our purchases? We've spent decades buying stuff we love, but why, and what happens towards the end? A very poignant and fascinating discussion. We reference two articles that talk about just that, which we'll post below. Take a read and tell us what you think. It's a discussion where we seem to psychoanalyze each other into seeing if indeed we have a 'problem'. Hope you enjoy this discussion.ARTICLE1: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-science-willpower/201208/why-it-s-hard-let-go-clutterARTICLE2: https://gizmodo.com/why-collecting-toys-is-like-a-heroin-addiction-5963592And here's a link to Ray's info: https://creaturecantina.com/Enjoy the discussion and tell us what you think. Ro and Brad discuss that period between the movies known only as 'the dark times', but how dark are they? After Return of the Jedi fans were convinced that was it, George was done, no more films, but what we got instead was a mish mosh of Star Wars content that seemed to satisfy the most ardent fan.Go back in time and relive the dark times and see what you remember! Plus, we've got some voicemails from friends that will jog a memory or two. We'll discuss them and recap those memories. The dark times, do we need to rethink that term? We recorded this one live on #ScarifLive last week and dropping it in here this week. As I discuss movies and fandom in my day to day, I realize that as a kid, I wanted more of what I loved. Star Wars led me down a path of wanting to learn about ILM and Lucasfilm, etc. In turn I found out about Indiana Jones and Willow, Star Trek and countless other science fiction shows and movies because of my love of the genre. But I'm finding out that fans now a days hyper fixate on one aspect of an IP. No one talks about specific directors of special effects artists, etc. It was that curiosity that made me learn the names Ben Burtt, John Dykstra, Marcia Lucas, etc and that yearning never died.I brought a panel on to discuss how they experienced that yearning for more. We touched on how we learned about shows like Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars on TV as Scott put it and more. Are today's fans changing their need to reach out and seek more within the genre of sci fi and fantasy? If you love Darth Vader and don't know who Sebastian Shaw is then THIS might be an episode for you. Thanks for listening.Remember, we are a proud founding member of the RED5Network, and that's the scuttlebutt.
This week they dropped the latest Mandalorian and Grogu movie trailer and of course we wanted to discuss with each other and some internet friends. Check out the audio feed from this week's Scarif Live. Give us your thoughts on the trailer, did you love it, or not so much? Let's discuss. Enjoy!
Nic is back. We continue our discussion from way back in EP99 and this time, ro and Nic are exploring that special second season of Battlestar Galactca known as Galactica1980. No 80s show is complete without Wolfman Jack, Cousin Oliver in Space, Mr Brady and of course those wonderful flying motorcycles. We seemed to block out a lot of this show out of our minds, so journey with us this weekend as we try and recall the silliness of arguably the best decade for nerd IPs.Were you a fan of the original Battlestar Galactica? Are you a fan of the reboot show? Did you witness the travesty of Galactic 1980? Did you survive? Of course you did, and what a time it was. Join the discussion, listen to the hot takes and let us know what you thought. Give Nic a follow on all the socials and look out for more Red5Network team ups. Ro and Brad are back and in this week's episode the top 5 most perfect movies are listed, in no particular order. This was a tough episode to put together, a few months in the making. Imagine picking your Top5 Most Perfect Movies. Would your list change day to day? Ours did. So many great movies throughout the decades, but we got down to business making a very comprehensive list. Did your movie make our list?Plus, Brad asked AI to identify a list of perfect movies. Listen in and see what artificial intelligence selected. Check out this week's discussion with Brad and Ro and thanks to follower Loki Jarson for suggesting the topic. We explore the concept of 'Death of the Author' in this deep dive where it's postulated once a work of art is out, it no longer belongs to the author. We explore the idea that the consumer attaches meaning to said project and that the author's original intent is no longer valid. Does it apply to long standing franchises like Star Wars where the original author is no longer in charge of the message? Do new authors need to refer back to the original text to formulate new stories? If they don't what may or may not be missing? We get into the weeds on this. Another Scarif deep dive. We hope you enjoy it. Got any thoughts on this episode? Reach us at ScarifScuttlebutt@gmail.com and tell us what you think. Yoda proclaimed it. Fear, Anger, Hate, Suffering, all elements that lead to the Dark Side. Anakin embodied all that to become transformed into arguably, the greatest villain to ever exist in movies, the dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader. We know of his dark trajectory, but how do those things play out in our own lives? Can we be turned to the Dark Side as Anakin was? Are we immune to those feelings? Ro and Brad welcome Dr Peter Demuth to the show and discuss the four pillars of Anakin's transformation. Dr Demuth is a clinical psychologist and author of Monsters in Life and Literature which gives him unique insight to this discussion. We explore how these very strong emotions can act in a way that transformed Anakin and pose the question, do we all have darkness in us? Join this deep dive discussion and explore the nature of these emotions and how our movie antagonists are a dark reflection of a possible outcome in real life. Demuth has spent decades studying, evaluating, and treating violent criminals and we bring him on to break down how a simple slave boy from Tatooine becomes the most feared villain in the galaxy. If you are interested in picking up a copy of Monsters in Life and Literature, hit the Amazon link below:https://a.co/d/6PLeh1dWe hope you enjoy this discussion and come back and tell us what your thoughts on it were. Hell has frozen over and pigs must be flying and that means we're talking about the sequel trilogy. Join Ro and guest @SemperFiDani on this journey through the sequel trilogy. Dani challenged me to talk about my least favorite Star Wars and discuss some of our shared sentiments about the so-called conclusion of the Skywalker saga. Dani also postulates how the hatred of these films are completely unfounded and she strives to understand how fans can't agree to disagree.Side not, originally when Dani asked me to come on I respectfully declined, but hey, content is content and here we are. As Luke said in The Last Jedi, "This is not going to go, the way you think"...and by that I'm not implying that I'll be alright with my bottom of the barrel Star Wars film, you'll have to listen to find out.Plus a special commentary by listener @NinTemple. We'll get to hear his take on the final trilogy of the saga.A nail biter for sure, grab a large wine glass and sit back, because it's always sunny on Scarif! We are a proud founding member of the Red5Network.

Join Ro and Dave from What Does Star Wars Mean 2 U as the discussion takes us to 'Force powers' throughout the films. We talk about some of our favorites and ask some questions about the Force. We've been seeing some new discussions lately with the latest Star Wars shows and wanted to go back to basics to see if we can quantify so much civil unrest when it comes to Force powers. And what's with the one-time use of the Force like FAST RUN that was seen in Phantom Menace by Qui Gon and Obi Wan? Seems like they could have used it JUST one more time towards the end of the film, no? Let's discuss.Plus a few voicemails from friends with some program contributions. Dave and Ro tackle the concept of fan expectations and dive into the root of the problem. Does our need to be right when it comes to fan theories and expectations supersede our distinguishing from what's harmless theory crafting versus claiming if it wasn't how we envisioned then it's garbage? A good talk about where our own personal line in the sand is. Is it normal to have expectations when going in to see a movie or television show? Or do those anticipatory ideas lead us to the dark side? Join the discussion.

Episode 164 begins our discussion on one of the most influential science fiction films, the original Planet of the Apes. Originally released in 1968, this film was co-written by Twilight Zone master Rod Serling from a previous work, but it packs a punch and it still does. Science fiction has the tendency to look at society through the lens of the genre's best written movies, this movie certainly lives up to that.
Join Ro and guest Alexander Moylan as they journey through the first APES movie with more to come. What do you remember about the film? Is that final shot still as exciting and thought provoking as it was when you first saw it? Give us your take.
If you enjoy the show please share it with friends and fans of movies. The Scarif Podcast is aimed to help generate level headed discussion and you, our listening audience, is helping us do just that. Thank you.

Join me for part two of a bonus series called My Wife Hates Sci Fi, a failed attempt to start a podcast show with the Mrs. We only made it to two episodes because...well, my wife hates sci fi and I couldn't bare to put her through more. Two nerds and a podcast! Join Ro and the most-listened-to man in coastal Georgia radio, Scott Ryfun talk about the stuff that keeps us up at night and continues to excite our imagination. Well, we started this episode out wanting to talk about some of our favforite caped characters in Star Wars and after a few minutes, that train just went off the tracks.Discovery is one fun aspect of creating content and sharing the airwaves with fellow nerds, but when your guest mirrors your likes and passions, well, that is just weird. Ro and Scott talk about the very strong memories they have of their first encounter with Star Wars down to the name of the theater.Plus more discovery and discussion on all the stuff we remember as kid nerds.Special shout out to Vader Rapinna and Wade Rutter for some scuttlebutt messages plus a few voicemails on who wore the best capes in Star Wars!Join the discussion and join the fun, only on the Scarif Scuttlebutt Podcast! We are a proud founding member of the Red5Network!That's the Scuttlebutt!
Straight from Youtube, our ScarifLive audio with guest Records of the Republic. Wade and Ro talk about their relationship with Star Wars as fans and as content creators.#ScarifLive #StarWars #Fandom #Red5NetworkAs fans of Star Wars we have lived through many things. Growing up in a sub group of fandom has taught us much. As Padawans we enjoy the fantasy of a galaxy far, far away, but does that fantasy erode as we get older? Does it erode even more as we become content creators? How do we separate the two? In the age of Social Media, how do we curate our own Star Wars experience without going down a rabbit hole, of which many do not recover?Tonight we have a frank discussion with new friends from Records of the Republic to talk about our relationship with Star Wars as fans and as content creators. Please give us a follow and subscribe to the show here on #YouTube and on your favorite podcast app. We drop our ScarifLive shows every Tuesday with new content released on Thursdays. This week's show is a #QuickCuts episode and we've got some great topics. First we tackle the question of movies as art or product. We get some help discussing that from Sean of @ExtraStarWars. With TEN Fast and Furious movies, are movies like this simply created to sell tickets? How do you tell the art apart from the product. Let's chat. We have some listener voicemail and tweets we'll be featuring as well.Second topic we're chatting with Andy of the @Holochronicles show. We hear that the toy industry is a changin'. Hasbro firing 1000 employees, Black Series figures no longer have plastic windows, yet adult kids still lead in collectibles purchases? What's happening with the toys? We take a look at the news and speculate on who's buying what? Good stuff.Last but not least, with all the UFOs being shot down all over the place we ask the question as nerds and sci fi geeks are we prepared for an alien invasion more than the general population? What kind of reactions would we have since we're used to lights in the skies and little green men? Our third guest Tim from @FSFPopcast helps us talk about that.Episode 144 is here. If you like what you hear, please tell a friend and share your experience. Let us know how you like this one.We are a proud founding member of the Red5Network...and that's the scuttlebutt!

What a great discussion with our friend Melanie from Twitter. Her knowledge of old Hollywood made this episode golden as we discussed the old serials of yesteryear. There have been a lot of our movie franchise favorites that have been inspired by those old serials. Let's talk about why they were so cool, from a gone by era.
We start out by discussing some old favorite radio dramas and talk about the theater of the mind and zip on over to the likes of Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers and more. Thanks for listening to this one. We had a blast and we hope you do too!
As always, we are a proud founding member of the Red5Network!
Ro and Brad are getting saucy on this one. The laser eye'd baby in the thumbnail says it all. We sit down and make a list about the things we don't like about Star Wars and this list is a doozy. From fan interaction to gas mileage and even wanting more Star Trek in our Star Wars? We'll let Ro explain that one.
Make sure you chime in, we're bound to say some stuff you may not agree with, but oh well. Let us know what that is.

EP103 is a great discussion on the notion of some of our favorite characters and their 'savior complex'. Skywalker as the 'chosen one', Superman comes down from the heavens to save humanity, etc. These characters throughout our fandom always seem to have the power to save the world. What does that say about our own need and the concept of redemption and saving?
Join us as Ro and Josh from A Certain Point of View Podcast dive deep into the 'Savior Complex' in the heroes we love. We try to explain our own fixations with these types of heroes and compare them to real life exploring parallels to spirituality and religion.
We hope you'll join us on this one.

We are joined on this episode by Abigail from The Manic Pixie Weirdo Podcast @MPWeirdoPodcast to talk about the role masks have in our lives. We enjoy the masks we see in our geek culture, Kylo Ren, Batman, Vader and so forth and for those characters we realize they represent the hidden selves of their particular characters. But what does it mean when we hide behind a mask? For some we wear these masks to feel braver or show a different side of us to others, etc. We'll explore how we use figurative masks in our daily lives.
Plus we have voicemails and tweet responses from our friends that we'll talk about as well. Enjoy this discussion about the masks we wear. If you have feedback on this, please give us a shout out on Twitter or email us at scarifscuttlebutt@gmail.com
Thanks to Abigail for joining in on this discussion.

We're taking with Toby Price about the controversy surrounding the children's book 'I Need A New Butt'. You've seen the headlines, now check out what the truth is straight from the source. Getting in hot water for what some say was inappropriate reading or an over reacting school board? You decide.
We also ask Toby what kind of nerd stuff he's currently enjoying and BONUS, Toby reads portions of the story to see just how we react to needing a new butt! You know how we like our butts around here, that's the scuttlebutt!
Welcome to our 100th Episode! We tackle the question we posed on Twitter, what are 5 of the top most influential movies ever? A tall ask, but we did manage to narrow it down from a long list of very influential films.
We had help deciding. Andrew from @Sci_Fictionary joined us on our 100th, and we went nose first into this discussion. From influences of a technical nature to ones more grounded in the way stories are told, we really picked apart some of our best choices and some great choices our followers submitted as well. Take note and see if you agree with our choices.
Plus, we've teamed up with Tee Public to say thank you to a couple of followers and listeners, so stay tuned in this episode to hear how you can qualify to win.
Enjoy this, our 100th episode and hear the wonderful voicemails we got from friends throughout the show. Thank you!

Battlestar Galactica, (1978) shares so much DNA with Star Wars, on this episode Ro talks with friend Nicholas Schaeffer about that shared DNA from visuals to special effects and more. The original series that ran one season in 1978 and was revived in the 80s as a cult classic generating fans from all over. We take a look at this influential television first, one of that era's most ambitious science fiction series and examine characters, actors and dive deep into why it's a favorite.
Part one is devoted to the first half of season one and I predict that we'll get fans on board to do a rewatch as we prep a part two. There is so much to talk about. Take a nostalgic trip and do your own search for the lost thirteenth tribe, a shiny planet, known as Earth.

We actually surprised ourselves with this one as we shared some personal stories of paranormal goings on that we each experienced and talked about how ghosts manifest themselves in our minds. Sometimes they are unfinished business, guilt or hidden messages in our sub conscious.

Episode 83, we're breaking down the Western as a genre and making some observations about our favorite Westerns of the past decades. One of the more interesting things is examining all the archetypes in Westerns and applying those character tropes to modern films. They have a lot in common with our films of a galaxy far, far away...but I digress.
With Westerns fading from time to time, they tend to come back, why is that? What keeps audiences wanting more? What make the genre so popular? We ask that question and make some discoveries along the way.
Big thanks to some of our followers who surprised us by listing out some of their favorites, we gave you all a shout out and saw some patterns emerge as far as one particular movie that seemed to be on everyone's list...you catch my drift my little huckleberry?

How about movies as art? When a movie is designed as a blockbuster to sell tickets, can it be called 'art'? Or does it become art based on society's reaction to a work? We discuss this with great fervor.
Our third topic deals with critics and critique. How much does it influence you on your own decision when it comes to seeing a movie or even agreeing with critics? Let's discuss, and the answer might surprise you.
Plus you'll hear a little bit about our Parsec Fan Awards, our deadline is coming up before you know it, so please submit all your favorites and follow @ParsecFanAwards for more info. Don't miss this one.

Let's dive deep into the character of The Joker, shall we? Many actors have played this maniacal genius from Cesar Romero in the Batman TV show from the 60's to Jack, to Heath and on in Joaquin, but why do we keep coming back to this iconic image of the tortured clown?
Team Scarif dares to ask and answer this why so serious question with special guest Josh aka @SithCareBear with the help of your voicemails and a few special surprises from our friends in the Twitterverse.

This week we ask, 'Can You Turn Off Your Brain' when watching a movie? We break that term down and see if it holds up. What do people mean, can we accept movies as is without thinking about them too much, or does that take you out of it? Let's find out what our panel thinks!
The new Disney Plus streaming show based on the comic title #WhatIf is set to run soon but will that confuse casual fans? What will it bring to the MCU as a whole? We'll break it down!
And movie snobs be damned, what are the differences between a so-called FILM versus a movie or a blockbuster? Is there a difference? Think about the emotions movies evoke and ask yourself how you personally categorize the terms when it comes to high art or pop corn flick.

This episode of #QuickCuts has us talking with Sean of @ExtraTechy. A big thanks to follower Oli K and his suggested topic. If we had a sit down dinner or lunch with George Lucas, what would we talk about? And it can't be anything movie or Star Wars related. Take a listen as to what we said.
Then we talk about 'forward-cons', not retcons. How do these new stories we're seeing in Mandalorian and Bad Batch affect the outcomes of the stories in the Sequel Trilogy? Or do they? What are the impact to your understanding in hind sight as we see more and more stories come out post Rise of Skywalker.
Our final topic comes thanks to Chanti. Have we been over saturated with nerd movies? Are there too many super heroes or sci-fi?
Check out our answers on this episode 71. Tell a friend. That's the scuttlebutt. As always, we are a proud founding member of The Red5Network!
In this episode of #QuickCuts, we're joined by @DJRed4Cahrlie for some great topics. Three topics! Three Takes! Lots of Fun!
The curious case of the trilogies! Seems like the more modern and production intensive films are less popular than the original trilogy which had the least production value. And of course it's based on interpretation.
What's the deal with dinosaurs? It's Jurassic June and we're asking ourselves what makes dinos so popular? And with the newest theme park technology, real world dinosaurs are here to stay. DJ talks about his experience with the Jurassic World: Velocicoaster and the every man's obsession with dinosaurs!
From Star Wars to Star Wars, George Lucas's legacy includes the best 'coming of age stories, whether it's American Graffiti to THX1138, to the original Star Wars, we discuss how those qualities are embedded in his films.
Plus we do special shout outs to some of our special friends in the twitterverse. Don't miss this Scarif #QuickCuts episode.

Our horror kick continues with episode 65. Team Scarif dives in to what makes us scared with a discussion about some of your favorite horror films. Is yours on the list? Last week's discussion about cursed movie sets spawned an interest into discussing the scariness and art of being scared.
Chantal mentions the older films like Frankenstein and the Mummy with such great actors like Lon Chaney and Bela Lugosi. Brad and Ro hearken back to the age of Alfred Hitchcock, but we all circle back to Jason, Freddy and Micheal to get our blood going...literally! The Omen, The Crow, Poltergeist, and other films dealing with supernatural themes have been plagued by bad luck, creepy karma or curses on set. One notable curse is the infamous death of actor Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow. Was it a continuation of the Lee Family Curse or bad studio management? You decide.
Whatever yo do, don't listen to this episode in the dark.

Special thanks for @TheFrank402 for being on the show!
What goes into making some of our favorite franchise costumes? How has the look of some of those favorites changed through the years? Why latex bat-nipples? We tackle these questions and more with special guest Merisha from fellow Red5Network pod Coruscant Radio Underground.
Chantal talks about her favorite first on screen costume experience and the power of the visuals when it comes to costume design. Merisha put out a poll asking which franchise has the best costumes between some of your favorites like Star wars, Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Join the discussion and let us know what your favorite costumes are.

The phrase 'With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility' is one that resonates greatly within the geek culture. It represents the real life lessons of choices and consequences that we as regular people also deal with. Super heroes for having super strength and abilities are relatable to us because of the down to earth emotions and inner demons they fight. Like the rest of us, we are faced with choices daily, and it's these choices that shape our personality and character.
Team Scarif takes a look at how this phrase affects characters in geek media. We talk about Peter Parker's arrogance, Bruce Wayne's unattainable thirst for vengeance and Magneto's mission to wipe out the unjust and corrupt homo sapien with a new breed of human.
Special thanks to Andrew of Coruscant Radio Underground for his gracious introduction to the topic tonight!
As always, we are a proud member of the Red5Network!
Ro and Chantal sit down and discuss two of Harrison Ford's most iconic characters and what makes them so popular, the scruffy looking nerf herder and that scoundrel archeologist, Han and Indiana Jones. Through the mythology of these stories between Star Wars and Indiana Jones, we see similarities, but we also see some key differences that make them fan favorites as well. Take a listen and see if you agree.
Plus a special message from Dominic Pace on Harrison Ford and how they've inspired him as an actor. We talk about how the masculinity of both Han and Indy play out with their respective partners in each franchise.
Plus don't miss #SentryMode. Chantal takes on 5 questions. See just how well she did!

Team Scarif dives into how rad it was to be an 80s nerd and discusses all the cool flicks that came out in that rockin' decade. We touched on a little of everything and walked down memory lane with folks in the chat during #ScarifLive. Thanks to you all for dropping your favorite 80s geek movies from Back to the Future, Goonies, Horror and more.
Plus a shout out to all our #ScarifSwag Red5 winners from last week's question; what was the name of the original Red5 fighter pilot before Skywalker took the designation.
As always, a proud founding member of the Red5Network!
Ro and Brad get a special boost from a new listener and discuss the use of humor in Star Wars and how parodies have treated our beloved franchise. Special attention to the original parody, Hardware Wares c.1978 and the parody that made the internet, TROOPS, c. 1997.
We'll discuss Blue Harvest by Family Guy and Robot Chicken as well as big screen parodies like SPACEBALLS and The Last Jedi...sorry, Cassian said I had to say that! Plus, you 'll get to hear the voice of our newest show host Chantal as we begin the SCARIF PODCAST transformation to our new format. Looking forward to sharing even more geek discussions in the future that will include all your favorite nerd stuff. As always, proud member of the Red5Network, and #ThatsTheScuttlebutt

For those of us who are parents, growing up geek was quite an experience, some good, some bad. Ro talks with Gil and Victor of @Fandads to chat about how parents are spreading the geekdom to their kids. No Jedi mind tricks here.
Are there elements of sci-fi and fantasy that can qualify as parental teaching moments? Do kids see sci-fi under the same lens? Are we forcing them to be geeks? If you are a 'fan-dad' or a fan-parent, this lively discussion is a good one.
Proud member of the Red5Network, and #ThatsTheScuttlebutt
Ro talks to Andrew and Merisha of Coruscant Radio Underground in a new short subject series called the Citadel Tower Transmissions. These are toppics of interest to us that may not garner full episodes but still makes us go hmmm.
First up, the Empire was able to trick it's way into power and built the Death Star and manipulate the Senate through misinformation and lies. We explore how Star Wars laid that groundwork through the original film all through Rogue One. An interesting concept that not many folks spend too much time on.
Second topic, was Obi Wan pulling Luke's leg when he said, "only Imperial Stormtroopers are this precise!" Stormtroopers can't hit. We explore why this is the case, both behind the scenes and in universe.

The hits keep on coming! This week's Mando Weekly discussion, we tackle The Believer! Find out how we felt about this chapter of The Mandalorian and why it was a pivotal moment in Star Wars Television.
Besides it's deep message, we also enjoyed how this chapter looked and how the traditional blue screen look on location enhanced the story telling. Looking forward to expanding the way they tell us this story. And how about them shore troopers? Yep, long live Empire, cause it's always sunny on Scarif!
Thank you to everyone who joined us in the Sunday chat. You make it more fun, especially if it was past your bedtime and watched from another continent! Ha! Enjoy!

If you were present on Sunday when we recorded this, we hope you catch the podcast edition of the Scarif Scuttlebutt Podcast.
Ro's theory was wrong! Let's just get that out of the way! We got to see fan favorite Ahsoka in the first few minutes of this week's episode titled 'The Jedi' and boy was it an experience. Ro and Brad along with our friends in the chat discussed how we all felt as we saw this animated character come to life in the Disney Plus live action show. Was it all that we wanted? You'll have to listen.
Plus, another special MANDO edition of of #SentryMode that Ro puts Brad through. How do you think he did? And you'll hear the names of our #TheTakeover #ScarifSwag winners announced from when The Child took over the Scuttlebutt Twitter account and went running amok all over Chicago.

It's all about the scuttlecheeks this week, and boy are the cheeks out in force! Chapter 12 of the Mandalorian delivers on all cylinders. Take a listen to our review and discussion on Chapter 12 The Siege. Ro and Brad are going in, full throttle, S-Foils in attack position but will you agree with their assessment? Was this yet another side quest? Did we get some morsels on the main story? What mysterious science projects were these ex-imperials protecting? You got questions? Let's discuss.
We also slid in a very special #SentryMode set of questions that weren't in the live stream authored by our friend @TreverBeast454, and we're sure you'll have a blast answering them.

"Jedi Politicians' starts here with us and for part 2 head over to The Force Losers Podcast. Don't forget to look for the RED5Missions Badge.
This discussion focuses in on the question of whether the Jedi got too close to political power. They became generals in the Clone Wars, but were they meant to be so close to politics?
Big thanks to friends Amanda, Rebel Scum Texan, Rogue and Jedi Princess_K for your remarks and thoughts which we tackle and comment on during this two parter.

Our 40th episode we talk about our favorite comic titles. We usually don't spend so much time on comics, but there's some really great ones recently. We're talking the latest main Star Wars book, Bounty Hunters, Aphra and more. Brad asks the question is it necessary to absorb all the extra material to enjoy Star Wars? What do we get out of knowing so much more? Join the discussion and find out.
Plus, don't miss this Sentry Mode Q&A, Brad asks Ro about Vader's chest piece, is this thing on? Tell us how YOU did on this week's Sentry Mode. Proud member of the Red5Network.
We're discussing the character of Ahsoka and our reaction when she first was introduced in the Clone Wars movie in 2008. We also explore how fans have reacted to her over the years, including us and how she may pop up in the Mandalorian this season. Is she the most 'Jedi' ever? Did leaving the Jedi order help teach Ahsoka what being a Jedi truly mean? We've got thoughts. Join us on this episode as we introduce our newer shorter yet juicier format on the Scarif Scuttlebutt Podcast.
Plus we announce our two winners for our #SentryMode #GimmeMyDarksaber give away contest. Was it you?
This week's release is the podcast version of last week's #ScarifLive with Natalie and Michelle of Force of Light Entertainment. We discussed love and friendship in the Star Wars universe and how important those concepts are to the story overall.
We could not have created this episode without talking about Rey's special bond with Kylo or Ben and how that complex relationship changed throughout the sequel trilogy.
As always, please join in the discussion and let us know what you think of 'friendship and love' in the Star Wars galaxy.
We're got a very special episode with André Hutchens of #BackseatDirectorsPodcast. Ro and André break down why it is that genre films are such a fun theater experience and what that means to movie going audiences overall. We also track our favorite movies on various streaming platforms and how these services have changed the landscape of the theater going experience.
Genre films have been event films and fans have taken this trek to movie houses for a long time. Is today's climate with covid and streaming and home tech theaters changing the notion of going to the movies? We hope you enjoy this discussion. Don't forget to weigh in after you've listened.
A big thank you to Michelle and Natalie of #ForceOfLightEntertainment podcast for contributing to this discussion.
Plus, don't miss this week's #SentryMode and see how André did. Don't worry André, there's much more important things to remember than the name of the tower in DIE HARD. Any takers? That's the Scuttlebutt.
Ro and Brad have the distinct pleasure of talking with master curator of the world's largest Star Wars collection on the planet, none other than Rancho Obi-Wan's Steve Sansweet. We've got stories of particular collectibles, confessions of how far we'd go to obtain a piece and we put Steve through the ringer with our Q/A segment, Sentry Mode. Did we stump him? Tune in and find out. Big thanks to Charlie Red4 / Star Wars Through the Ages Podcast for sending us a clip about what he remembers about his early collection.
Covid and the pandemic has closed down many places we'd gather like conventions, concerts, movie theaters and museums. Rancho Obi Wan depends on visitors to survive, but with no visitors, it's becoming more and more difficult to function. As you know, it takes a lot of effort to keep the lights on and if you're able to, we'd ask you to visit www.RanchoObiWan.org and consider a virtual tour subscription. Lots of perks, and the satisfaction that you are helping preserve this vast archive of Star Wars collectibles for all to see.
Thank you for listening, and #ThatsTheScuttlebutt
Ro and Alex are back and they're talking about the new #DisneyPlus show shrouded in some mystery. Rogue One is a favorite of ours and spinning off a spin off seems like a no brainer. But the real treat is the contributions from our friends like Alberto at Radio Rebellio Podcast, David Triana of Followers of the Force and the wonderful ladies of Force of Light Entertainment, Michelle and Natalie who have all sent in some clips to help us get excited about the new Cassian show.

The world is in turmoil...again. We're taking a look at how science fiction has presented social issues in the past and how those social issues have affected the way sci-fi is told in pop culture. We took special attention to sci-fi like classic Trek, Lucas' early film, THX1138 and Planet of the Apes with our guests Dave and Liv from Pizza and Parsecs as well as a special contribution from Andrew and Merisha from Coruscant Radio Underground.
We're very proud to share this with you all. There was lots to be said and we encourage you to continue the discussion with the Red5Network family. Thats the scuttlebutt.
Ro and Brad get 'spiritual' and discuss a few topics that have always perplexed mankind...and #StarWars fans alike. The notion of fate, destiny and free will are part of the sci-fi pantheon and redemption always seems to play a pivotal role in our favorite galaxy far, far away. But what does that mean? Can we analyze those concepts from a more earthly...or shall I say 'heavenly' point of view?
We're joined tonight by the ladies of #GoldSquadron, Force of Light Entertainment and part of our #Red5Family, somewhat experts in the field, and we've got our questions ready!
Don't forget to head on over to Red5Network.com for more quality content from our member podcasts...and #ThatsTheScuttlebutt
Ro and Brad talk about how propaganda in Star Wars worked between the two messages carried through by the Empire and it's counterpart message by the Rebel Alliance. Each had it's own agenda to portray the other in a bad light. Brad gives us a little history lesson on the roots of real world propaganda and how it evolved to something that to this day carries a negative connotation.
We explore how the Empire aligned itself as a force for galactic 'law and order' versus the terrorist forces of the Rebel Alliance through the actions of rebel agents such as Luke Skywalker and the most extremist operative Saw Guerrera and how each shaped the image of the Rebellion.
The Empire was into denial and the Rebels were overpowered due to the secret project that was well underway as we join the story in a New Hope. But aren't 'rebellions built on hope?' We hope you enjoy this critical analysis of "propaganda' in a galaxy far, far away!
Team Scarif talk with best selling author Claudia Gray on a very special May 25th, 2020 about how here fan favorite books like Lost Stars, Leia; Princess of Alderaan and others came to be developed. Claudia gives us some insight on what her favorites are and what characters she enjoys writing. Brad asks her about the term 'Hutt Slayer' and Ro grills her about being a journalist.
If you missed this live interview on YouTube back on May 25th, don't miss it here! #ThatsTheScuttlebutt
Collectors are passionate, Star Wars collectors are crazy, we all know. Ro talks with fellow Star Wars collectors Josh and Andy from the Holochronicles Podcast to discuss why it is that we collect. What is it that drives us to surround ourselves with collectibles of any kind? We discuss that need and how collecting is a very personal process.
We'll also have your voicemails and hear what your collections mean to you. Thanks for calling in to the Scuttlebutt Hotline, now you're part of the show.

Ro and Brad discuss the Sith Rule of Two and how it differentiated from the method of the Jedi. Was it useful in it's purpose? Who started the Rule of Two and who broke it? Another deep discussion on Star Wars lore. You've heard the tale of the Darths, but now hear their significance through the ancient 'Rule of Two'. Plus this episode was recorded live with a chat audience, we hear how our chat group did in an all new #SentryMode segment by the audience. May the Force be with you!
A big thanks to @starwarsiain for suggesting this topic. Brad was certainly excited to talk about how Jedi Master Qui Gon Jinn impacted the story of the prequels and what his death meant to Anakin and Obi Wan. #TeamScarif is all on board in this episode discussing how Qui Gon's perspective of the Force was different than the rest of the Jedi Council. That thinking got him into some trouble more times than not.
A special thanks to @CamRay for the voicemail that sparked many a conversation about Obi Wan Kenobi's role in Anakin's turn to the Dark side...or did it?
And Brad tries to stump Ro and Alex in this episode's #SentryMode segment. Hope you enjoy!

Star Wars is a vast universe... just as our own galaxy is full of wonderful and strange characters, the Star Wars universe is as diverse in characters as it has number of stars. With each film and show that comes out, we get treated to some very interesting characters. We've got bounty hunters, scavengers and aliens, creatures who fix and fly ships to droids who hunt and keep secrets. Star Wars has given us some of pop cultures most popular personas.
Boba Fett, Greedo, Lobot, Quinlan Vos, Gekko and a slew of others, we've managed to demand as fans that these side characters be given a history. It's a testament to the world building that Lucas established. Chances are YOU have a favorite side character. That's our topic, tonight...StarWars Side Hustle...

The Scarif Podcast has had an amazing year. Thank you all, may the force be with you...looking forward to 2020. #DeployTheGarrison
Ro, Alex and Brad are back in full force discussing the 'Balance of The Force', what does it mean? George Lucas has explained it in simplistic detail but as with anything, the room for interpretation has helped generate many theories and ideas that may or may not stray away from Lucas' original concept of the Force.
The Force is an energy field that surrounds us, penetrates us...how do we relate to this energy? Is the dark side stronger as Yoda claims or does the light have it's own set of rules? Powerful light to meet a powerful dark, is this a notion you agree with? Can you have good without evil? Do you need evil at all to have good?
Take a listen to this episode and join the discussion on line and feel free to weigh in on Twitter on #TheLegacyOfBalance
Our friend Dominic Pace returns to the podcast to talk about his experience on the the first ever Star Wars small screen show, The Mandalorian. As an actor and fan of the franchise it truly is a dream come true. Team Scarif got a second chance to ask Dominic about what it was like on day one, Dave Filoni, John Favreau and getting to pick out his own blaster.
So good we did it twice. Ro geeked out a second time with pals Yoshi and David from ILM on the heels of the final days of post and VFX work for the Mandalorian and Rise of Skywalker. The trio spoke the same language when it came to Star Wars. What came up? We've got Shadows of the Empire, Admiral Holdo, Admiral Ackbar, Tech Talk and meeting George Lucas, Gina Carano and the Mandalorian plus Yoshi puts ideas in Ro's head about trying to find a CostCo version of the OT...quick trip to ebay fixes that plus a whole lot more.
When we have Rob and Trever on talking about the Clone Wars we took a left turn, a little detour if you will and went into the Mortis Arc territory. While most fans consider this Clone Wars episode something that gives you deep vibes, one of our co-horts took a different approach. Take a listen and see if you agree. A difference of opinion about Star Wars on the internet? You gotta hear it to believe it. No Porgs were harmed in the making of this episode.
This amazing episode takes a deep dive into the legacy of the Clone Wars. How did Palptine come to manipulate both sides and what were the consequences and events that lead to the formation of the first Galactic Empire? How did this galactic war affect the galaxy and how do we feel it will affect the final chapter in the Sequel Trilogy now that we know Palpatine has returned?
On this episode we are joined by TreverBeast454 and Rob from the Jedi Temple Archives Podcast as well as many of our regular contributors like Andrew and Merisha from Coruscant Radio Underground, Todd from WSTR Galactic Public Access and new friends of the pod like Lauren Romo from the GALacic Pod to name a few. We hope you enjoy the deep insight that our guests offer as well as enjoy the very special Clone Wars Edition of Sentry Mode Q&A segment formulated by TreverBeast454.
Join us...it is your destiny!

We've got a special podcast episode for you. Our dear friend of the podcast Amanda wanted to share her theories on a possible relationship between Rey and Palpatine and Alex had a great discussion with her. They examined how the role of John William's score lays out possible clues to her lineage as well as other clues that might reveal who Rey is...if that's even her real name.
Darth Plagueis, Midichlorians, fighting styles and a lot of humming Star Wars music...you'll hear it here. This special episode is a delight, but be warned, spoiler warnings if you want to go in to #TheRiseOfSkywalker theory free, this is full of theories...please enjoy this episode responsibly.
What's up Scuttlebuddies? This is a good one and it launches our George Lucas Appreciation Month series this October. Ro talks to Yoshi Vu and David Espinoza, ILM senior artists who are currently working on The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian. It's crunch time for them, so we appreciate the time they took to chat with us not once but twice from Singapore in between shots. That second bonus episode is also coming.
Yoshi and David share their insight on their ILM experience and talk Star Wars. David says be careful what you wish for, what does he mean by that? We'll find out and it'll surprise you what spoilers lurk around the office when you're just grabbing a glass of water at ILM.
Plus plenty of contributions to #GeorgeLucasAppreciationMonth by our friend Rob at Jedi Temple Archives. Rob talks about Lucas' providence and inspirational story of this incredible creator of content.
