Arman Gushchyan (Арман Гущян) is a Moscow-based composer working in different fields, from orchestral to electronic music, from music theatre to sound installations. He is as well active as curator of new music events.

He studied composition with Roman Ledenyov at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He also studied composition with Roland Moser and orchestration with Georg Friedrich Haas at the Basle Music Academy in 2006-2008. In 2010-2012 he took a postgraduate composition course “Meisterklassen” by Mark Andre and Franz Martin Olbrisch (Computer music) at the University of music Dresden.

Arman Gushchyan has taught theoretical subjects, orchestration and composition at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 2008-2013.

He has been a laureate of the Swiss Federal Scholarship (2006-08) and of the DAAD scholarship (2010-11), also a laureate at the Shostakovich competition (Moscow, 2006, for Metanoia for orchestra), at the third international Pre-Art competition (Zürich, 2007, for Nihil sive for ensemble) and at the Pythian Games (St. Petersburg, 2014, for Ob-L-IK-I). He has had a one-year artistic residency at Richard-Wagner-Stätten near Dresden in 2010-2011.

Among the performers of his music have been ensemble pre-art (Zürich), Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Studio for New Music Ensemble (Moscow), eNsemble Pro-Arte (St. Petersburg), Russian State Symphony Orchestra; Ensemble Phoenix Basel, Ensemble Proton Bern, Mondrian Ensemble, Camerata Variabile Basel, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Sinfonietta Dresden, Ensemble Courage (Dresden), Dresdner Philharmonie, Ensmeble Apartment House (London), Assonance Ensemble (Yerevan); Intrada Vocal Ensemble; conductors Fedor Lednev, Philip Chizhevsky, Jürg Henneberger, Jurjen Hempel, Lennart Dohms and Ekkehard Klemm. His music has been played at such festivals as: Moscow Forum (2003), ISCM World New Music Days (2004, Lucern), Tonkünslerfest Zürich (2007), Kiev Musik-Fest (2009), Moscow Autumn festival (2004, 2005, 2009-2011), Culturescapes Moskau (2012, Basel), Two Days and Two Nights of New Music (2013, Odessa), reMusik Contemporary Music Festival (2016, St. Petersburg), Yuri Bashmet Festival (2019, Yaroslavl), Crossroads Festival (2019, Yerevan).

He has been composing music and doing the sound design for several drama theatre plays in Latvia and Lithuania (for his theatre music see the page @d-erive). As arranger of classical music for orchestra and ensemble he has had cooperations with Edition Le Chant du Monde (Paris), and with several orchestras, including Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra under direction of Vladimir Fedoseev, "New Russia" symphony orchestra and others. He is the co-founder of the Young Composers’ Club at Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Since 2013 he has been also active as curator of contemporary music projects, since 2015 as the artistic director of the platform for new music initiatives "Trajectory of Music" @trajectoryofmusic. Among his projects have been such notable in Moscow events as "Requiem in memoriam Josquin Despez. Jean Richafort and XXI century composers“ and "Everything Is Real" – a 6-day Alvin Lucier Festival in Moscow (2017).

Le Chant du Monde (Paris) publishes some of his works.
