Tommy has been an on air forecaster since the early 90's back in the Memphis & Mid-South area. Severe weather central back then!
In addition to his daily Soundcloud cast here in the Central VA Blue Ridge mountains, he does occasional weather for the CBS, ABC, and FOX affiliate in Charlottesville, VA at The Newsplex.
Tommy also enjoys flying both airplanes and helicopters.

A soggy weekend on tap, but much milder than what we've seen for several previous days. A flood watch is in effect from Saturday evening until Sunday evening. The potential for 2-3 inches of rain is very possible especially in areas up near the Blue Ridge.

Merry Christmas everyone! - Monday will be windy and cold. A WIND ADVISORY is in effect for portions of the Blue Ridge until early afternoon Christmas Day. Some wind gusts in the mountains at places like Wintergreen, Montebello and Afton Mountain could reach 50 MPH.
The remainder of the week headed into New Year's Weekend is cold and we are watching a potential snow / ice event late week into the weekend.

Many new ciders will be launched from the area that once was the original cider making barn of the operation.

In this interview, Blue Ridge Life Magazine Publisher Tommy Stafford talks with Richard Thomas about his planned return to the homeplace of Earl Hamner, Jr., the creator of The Waltons. Thomas played the starring role of John-Boy Walton in the hit television series based on the life of Hamner in the mountains of Nelson County, Virginia.
Thomas will be in the late Hamner's hometown of Schuyler the weekend of October 20, 2017.

Many back here in Virginia have vacation homes, family and friends in South Florida. Today I spoke with Joe Markham in Fort Lauderdale. Joe is the the long time Safety Director for Pinecrest Preparatory School there. His wife Dr, Dana Markham is the president of the school's two campuses.
Joe and I were police officers together and worked as directors and co directors of our Emergency Management Agency back in Northwestern Tennessee.
Joe tells us what it happening on the ground as far a preparations . This interview was late afternoon Friday.
We will be speaking with him off and on during and after Irma has hit South Florida.

BRL Embrace The Adventure columnist and Virginia Off Road Series Founder, Woody Elliott, remembers his friend and mountain biking enthusiast Lieutenant H. Jay Cullen. Culler was a helicopter pilot with the Virginia State Police. He was killed on Saturday - August 12, 2017 when his police chopper crashed in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The chances for showers and a possible t-storm continue on Monday. (best chance for a t-storm is Nelson south) By Tuesday morning showers taper and we should see some sunshine by the afternoon. We still have the chance for some widely scattered showers on Wednesday but not a real rainmaker.
We are cool for much of the week until things warm up heading into next weekend.
In the long range outlook, temps begin a big jump in about a week to 10 days. Will feel like summer!

After a nice day Thursday with 70s it's back to winter by the afternoon on Friday as temps plummet and gusty northerly winds blow.
We continue to watch the chance for some snow Saturday night into Sunday. Thus far it doesn't look to be major for Central Virginia proper.

Monday didn't get as warm as I thought it would, but a warm front moving through into Tuesday morning warms us to the middle 60s with some showers developing as well.

Thursday will be the last really cool day for the next seven. By Friday temps begin to moderate and over the President's Day weekend we essentially skip into spring like temps.

Temps slid down all day Thursday with very breezy conditions. The winds will die down overnight and by Friday we are still cool but with lighter southwesterly winds. That sets the stage for a very spring like weekend ahead.

After 70s again Wednesday, it will be anything but that on Thursday. Look for some light snow in the mountains toward Thursday daybreak. (Winter Advisory until 7AM on Skyline Drive ) Otherwise it will be a very cold and blustery day.

Numerous winter weather advisories, watches and warnings have been issued to counties to the south and east of Nelson where we are based. Significant snow will get as close as Lynchburg and Appomattox given current projections as of Friday morning.
