The one where I give you a sneak peak at the video I’m editing for Wires & Diamonds track, Drift Away.
The one where I thank The Enterprise Place at University of Sunderland for awarding me the Santander Seed Fund.
Drafting lyrics
This was canny.
I got a message late one night off my mate saying 'needs vox', with an instrumental track attached. That's the kind of message I like because I'm not into small talk.
So I asked my usual 3 questions:
Theme? Mood? Reference track? And I got my usual answer:
'Dunno…'
But then he qualified it with:
'…just decided to make some of that synthwave all the kids are talking about.'
And then the most detailed instruction of all:
'Just whack a lyric down.'Fair one.
I started listening to the track on repeat to get familiar with the beats, notes, rhythms. Imagery usually starts to form in my head.
And it wasn't long before the imagery started going cyberpunk.
Machines, robots, running, hiding, chasing, heartbeat, human, androids…And then the concept.
The era in which machines and humans co-exist has come to an end and the cyborgs are exterminating all heartbeats. The first two lines are instructions to the machines.
The rest of the song is written from the perspective of a human on the run.
