"Courage to Overcome" will feature families or persons who have shown courage to overcome disability challenges and go beyond what the medical personnel or others thought they could do. It will be addressing autism, downs syndrome, cerebral palsy, learning disorders, and other medical challenges that are difficult for families to deal with. Cheryl will be addressing some of the problems families face and offer some solutions to make life easier. There is an incredible line-up of people who will make it interesting, educational, and supportive to families. You won't want to miss an episode!
Tonight's program is a summary of the shows that I have done for three years and talk about how the guests can find resources about the various topics that require caregiving. With 67% expected to die before the one they care for, it will help those caring for people from Autism to Alzheimer's to know how to better care for themselves and prevent burnout.
My guests will be Ben Gioia (who supports women making changes in the world) and James Woeber (who cares for his mom but still holds a job and lots of volunteer work for the Evolutionary Business Council). These two are amazing men who are so supportive of helping others be the best they can be and make the world a better place.
Tonight's show will be about suicides and bullying in schools and my expert from Canada will be Tracey Maxfield. She will be able to answer some of those questions we all need to know!
I am so excited that I am having a young high school student that has autism on my program. Last Friday night at the state tournaments at the last few minutes of the ballgame, Christian Patterson was put in. At first, some did not know that he had any special issues. When he "walked" the ball, the ref gave the ball to the other side. But as time went on, Christian was given the ball a couple of times and he missed the basket. The crowd was obviously sad for him as there was an "awwhh" going through the stands. Then the opposing team threw him the ball and he made a three-point score! The crowd cheered and so di both teams. They were so supportive of him! Exciting to have him on as his story went viral last weekend.
My guest tonight is Mark Stowers who has owned a company for 14 years in support of families who need assistance for caregiving. He will share some of the resources and issues that are associated with getting help.
Tonight I will have a program to help parents care for special needs kids. We will talk about some issues that face parents as the kids grow and need different kinds of support. Nicole Wilson, WHO started a magazine, "AUTISM MOMS ARE BEAUTIFUL," will be my guest. She also works with the deaf in schools, and has a child with autism. She is busy celebrating Autism moms and has some events our listeners will be interested in knowing about. She has a nonprofit and works to help other moms.
I am excited that tonight's guest is Amy Kirkpatrick Young, who at an early age was diagnosed with MS. She had a great doctor who recognized her symptoms and immediately got her to a specialist. Her life is full of challenges, but she is aware of some triggers that make it harder. She is still teaching school and tries to control the disrupters as well as she can.
She is truly a champion of courage to overcome her disability.

My guest, Evelyn Flynn, has experienced some of the harsh realities of long-term care for her mom. There are so many things we need to change in the eldercare systems. It causes many who are caregivers to stop and revisit the idea of a parent in a long-term care facility that leaves the idea of "care" out. Let's talk about some of the changes that need to be made in our systems. If you have a parent still living, there is a very good chance you will be their caregiver one day. Get involved now in learning from others what might be ahead.
I will be having Chris Adams on my show who writes and plays music for those with Alzheimer's. His own mom has it now and in a later stage and he has retired to help with her care. He helped with a grandfather when he was young and took him with him to track meets and other events. He understands what the music does to soothe the mind for others and donates nis music and much of his proceeds to Alzheimer's.

This coming week we will focus on the spouse and what is called, Secondary PTSD. It will be a way to help the family learn some skills to cope with this and understand that the spouse is in the greatest danger of abusing someone. The following week, we will address how PTSD affects the children in what is called "Floating PTSD".

Another will tell of how she has helped care for her parents by moving them close to her and her family has been overseeing their care for years.
