I talk to Fay again to discuss a story packed with Human wonderment..

The last time I talked to Fay she had lost her job as a project manager in the Advertising industry.

Today we talk about how she coralled mass support through social media and specifically LinkedIn to help her climb out of a CoronaVirus Work Nightmare

Go Fay!

Mark's wonderful cousin pops back for an update on how she's been handling the pandemic and lockdown from a mental health poiunt of view.
Like so many her thoughts have been preoccupied with this giant and invisible enemy.
Let's face it - even the toughest of us have had our moments I am sure.

And yeah, she doesn't laugh at any of Mark's jokes.

Mark is joined by Jon Edge from Overload. Mark asks Jon a series of questions about lockdown, how it feels and how surreal it is.

It's incredible how humans adjust for the greater good - apart from theose whon won't.

The talk about The law breakers, the law makers and try to get a sense of where we are all at. Industry, shops etc.

What does the comeback look like?

If you are reading this then the Being human team wish you and your families safety, courage and comfort.

As always I remain deeply inspired by the generation Zs and Millenials. Well, the ones that have their heads screwed on anyway.

At just under 50 I've seen a lot, done a lot and lived with as much spirit as possible. It's not the same for these guys though. For each of them, within their agegroups time is moving more slowly and what's happening in the world is the sum of all medical fears.

They have every right to be terrified, but they are not...

Jon and Mark have not caught up for sometime and the world has changed.

Still room for a smile and a laugh though as we optimistically plough into the unknown.

What we know, see, do and discover everyday is new at the moment. We have no back up, no mental plan and nothing to compare anything to. We are truly concerned for what effect C19 could have for those that have teetered on the edge of phobia, anxiety and general discomfort.

Never have we had a greater need for love, direction and support and never have we been less able to communicate it through social distancing. The irony...

Mark and Jon recommend keeping an eye out for each other, friends and anyone you have a hunch may be suffering.

Please let us not produce thousands of post traumatic disorders in front line and the lonely.

Mark and Paul have a very relaxed discussion from the hip about life and work.

Paul's a Creative, a thinker, an empath, a Dad and the host and creator of The New P&L - Principles & Leadership in Business podcast series.

Paul and Mark meander around the 'C' word, creativity, music, kindness and the future of business after Corona.

As Paul says -

"We have an amazing world........ evolution shouldn’t be at the expense of empathy".

Mark and keith effectively just record the kind of catch up they have every month or two. Keith hijacks the introduction which is handled amateurishly by 'all thumbs' Young as the levels go to pot and the conversation goes from there.

Mark talks to Gellan whom he worked with around ten years ago and has always kept in touch with.

Gellan has built and successfully exited marketing agencies, is an investor, strategist and all round good guy but like so many, has suffered with poor mental health.

Mark and Gellan share their experiences with mental health issues ranging from panic disorder to addiction.

Gellan's candour is revealing, motivating and moving with nothing but the desire to normalise the subject and help others just has Mark has been doing for the least 20 years.

In the conversation no subject is taboo, the language is strong at times and emotions are laid bare.

We hope that anyone feeling this way knows they are not alone, that there are ways forward and great lives to be led.

Mark is joined by Dan.

Dan is ex SAS and other special forces I cannot namecheck.

Dan trains blue chips, agencies and MI6/SAS in leadership and resilience. A calmer more eloquent and clearer chap you could not wish to meet.

Mark and Dan met when he was training at an agency where Mark was working. Mark was so taken aback at the impact the training had on him that he now works with Dan and unashamedly plugs him as often as possible.

In this podcast Dan shares that quiet, forceful and knowledgable mind that caused mark to adopt him as his Mentor.

This time 10 days ago, my guest Tim Bodenham was running his 22 year old business and his team of 18 fantastic people. Today the business turns over zero as Tim and his team were caught in the perfect storm where none of their clients could continue to trade.

It takes a decent bloke and big pair of Cohones to chat through his experiences in the last week openly and as an excellent Human.

Tim is well worth listening to if you run an agency and are lifving in fear of what's coming next.

My (Mark's) summary of this podcast is one of pure admiration for Tim and everyone facing the heavy and difficult times to come.

But as Tim says, There's always a Silver Lining Somewhere to come.

Mark and Martin worked together a decade ago and share a great love for the film Withnail and I and living life to the full.
They discuss how mental health is affected by what's going on, by isolation and by very difficult times for business.
Should we be doing new business? Should we just watch Netflix? No, there is work to be done and a new future to be ready for.
They also talk about borrowing a sattelite from the Ministry of Defence

Mark tries to get hold of Jon but no sign.

He has more luck getting hold of his friend Fay who, whilst wishing for a role agency-side, is struggling to get work even in a supermarket.

Fay and Mark talk about the things we can do something about and those we can't.

The journey through Pandemic times has now started and we all have to be smart, humble, hard working and canny to keep our heads above water.

The Govenment are 'in' and we're all feeling brave and ready for the fight but when will the adrenaline from change cease and perhaps unemployment be the norm for longer than we can imagine. #covidlights

Sometimes it's good to get back to basics and back to the root of the topic. I set Jon a series of five questions about what makes a good human and how do we spot them
and are they always obvious .
We discuss people in the public domain ranging from Philip Schofield to Marilyn Manson and HAVE some laughs along the way.
A podcast that will leave you with a smile on your lovely Human faces.

Work culture becomes a huge part of our lives but is it healthy and adding to your humanity or does it (and the people) drain you leave you craving the weekends and having miserable Sunday evenings?
So much of our anxieties, depressed moods and negative thinking are originated in the workplace.
Until companies really wake up and stop pretending they care it's up to us to keep cultures happy and productive.

Morning, just wanted to say appreciate what you're doing with the podcast. (Being Human)

Between us I’ve had heightened levels of anxiety myself for the past year or two and it’s good to hear a different perspective on it.

Mark Young takes us through his own particular journey with anxiety over the years. Although grim listening he explains why it could be easier now to get on top of it than it was 15 years ago when mental health was simply not a topic in the public consciousness.

As time has gone on Mark talks about how his mindset changed over time from fear to understanding and from manic thinking to mindfulness.

This podcasts is not intended as an 'about me' or 'woe was/is me' but to see if you or anyone you know who has been through this finds anything useful. Sometimes when we hear a snippet of life experience that we share somehow that shifts our thinking. We might hear the odd phrase or reminder that can be so useful.

We hope it's useful.

Mark is once again joined by Jon to take an initial look at the massive subject of workplace stress.
The problem is so big and widespread but with a lot of grey area. Companies seem to doff their cap to a solution byt Mark's belief is that first we need to be able to recognise the symptoms better and proactively help those suffering whilst proactively going after the bullies.

We all know how it feels to get overloaded sometimes. You feel like pulling you hair out or self medicating with a bottle of wine despite knowing that a bracing walk and a meditation would be the answer.

But Overload can trip you out, make you depressed, trigger anxiety and stop you sleeping well.

How do we, as an over informed and informationally over-fed race, learn to edit on the fly keeping space in our minds so we don't become victims of stress.

Jon Edge has set up a Community Interest business to help people deal with overload and stress. He and Mark discuss why he thinks there is a need for such things, the connection to mental wellbeing and the characteristics of feeling full to the brim.

We all know the feeling. Stuffed to the gunnels with work, kids, money etc.

None of us are alone in this. Trouble is when it gets too much you get overload and that exposes you to anxiety.

Hi there, I'm Mark Young.

My podcasts are chilled and very much like having a chat. No big dramas, no claims and no qualifications. I'm a Dad, a businessman and love kindness and people treating each other right. I suffered from anxiety and panic - got through it and a ton of other issues.

The last four years have seen the loss of my marriage, my business, all money, my house, you name it - it's gone.

It has been tough for sure and really difficult at times but I was always able to find a way to deal with things. Lots of secret tears, becoming a single Dad, losing two jobs in a row having lost my own business.

It should have been a nightmare but it really wasn't so have a listen and I hope I echo some of your feelings around hope, anxiety but most of all reality.

You're stronger than you think.

As the excitement, energy and attachment to good mental health hangs on in the face of competition, how do we go from the notional to the practical as business leaders?

Avoiding isolation, spotting problems early and distraction are all part of the complex yet rewarding journey back to good mental health.
