On Friday, February 23, our matriarch Norma Milligan who loved St. Peter's and worshiped here for over 50 years passed from this life to the next at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. Christine took time on Sunday to share her memories of this remarkable woman, now among the ancestors who watches over us and passes on the torch to love fiercely, speak truthfully, live fully in who we are, just as she did.
Christine kicks off our Lenten sermon series "Sleep For A Weary World," looking at sleep through the lens of the creation story. God invites us to enter the rhythms of grace by beginning our day in the evening - with sleep, rest, and trust. We awaken to join God's creative work in the world, embodied creatures in relationship who collectively care for one another. As part of our series "Finding Ourselves in the Story of God," we're inviting some of our friends to speak into our St. Peter's community, starting with Joanna Thomas, a spiritual director from All Angles' Church. Reflecting on John 11, Joanna talks about how Martha is often overlooked in light of her sister Mary, yet how she shows us what it means to be with and engage with Jesus even in the midst of deep grief and disappointment. As she brings all of herself, both grief and faith to him, Joanna reflects on what it is like to sit in that space with Jesus and hear him ask if she believes he is the resurrection and the life.

In the season of Epiphany, a time of illumination, revelation, seeing, we are focusing on discernment. Christine interviews Ruth Haley Barton who leads The Transforming Center in Chicago and author of "Pursuing God's Will Together: A Discernment Practice For Leadership Groups" about what discernment is, why it's important and how we can go about cultivating it in our lives and community.
Christine puts a stake in the ground at St. Peter's about discernment, "the increasing capacity to recognize and respond to the presence and activity of God, both in the ordinary moments and in the larger decisions of our lives" (Ruth Haley Barton), as the heart of discipleship and what it means to follow Jesus.

On this Gaudete Sunday, Christine reflects on the theme of Joy, how longing gives us a glimpse of wholeness, the way things were meant to be. She invites us into soulful, whole-hearted worship and embodied solidarity that helps us claim this prophetic reality in the here and now.

Lisha explores the both/and of the wilderness - a site of struggle and potential illumination. She reflects on the wilderness as a location for wrestling with all that's wrong with the world, a place to consider the why of our coming. She encourages us to connect with our desperate prayers.
Lisha offers God as the bedrock of our stewardship. We give because we love God and that giving is sourced from what we already have. Tune in as she filters todays readings through the memory of an important teaching and what she gleaned from a conversation between a US senator and a comedian.
Christine invites us to enter into this season of stewardship with prayerful reflection on God's abundance grace, sharing stories from her family of sowing and reaping, receiving and giving, from post-war Korea to immigrating to the U.S., and the multiplying of that grace through generosity and gratitude.

Aaron Niequist continues in our theme of worship, what it means to "tune our hearts" to God. He reflects on worship as noticing God's presence and activity around us and in the world, and responding with our whole selves to God in that healing and restorative work.
