Welcome Jen from Motherhood Understood. She’s here to share her experience with postpartum depression and the online community she built to help other mamas just like her.

Website: http://motherhood-understood.com Online Support Community: http://maternalmentalhealth.inspire.com Instagram: http://instagram.com/motherhoodunderstood Facebook: http://facebook.com/motherhoodunderstood Share Your Story: https://motherhood-understood.com/share-your-story Postpartum Support International: https://www.postpartum.net/get-help/help-for-moms/

Jen Schwartz is the medicated mommy who picked up the debris left by postpartum depression and anxiety and created MOTHERHOOD UNDERSTOOD, a platform for the 1 in 5 moms affected by maternal mental health issues and the community she couldn’t find while struggling in a dark closet all by herself after the birth of her son. Jen gives permission slips to women who aren’t exactly enamored with their new role as mommy, so they can allow themselves to be the most real and honest versions of themselves. She helps them empathize, share, and connect with others who speak their language—moms who understand that new mommy life isn’t always the way it looks on Instagram. Jen is committed to shining the light on the darkest of places, where maternal mental health taboos have been hiding out, trying to make us believe that we are not enough and all alone. Jen is a writer, speaker, and influencer whose work and commentary has been featured all over the mommy blogosphere and on popular websites like Forbes, Romper, The Mighty, Healthline, The Bump, Pop Sugar Moms, Scary Mommy, CafeMom and more. This year, 2020 Mom named Jen their 2019 Blue Dot Project’s National Spokeswoman and Inspire partnered with her to launch and moderate their first maternal mental health online support community. She has recently completed her Maternal Mental Health Certificate Training with Postpartum Support International.

Going Green Ideas:

We totally forgot to talk about some of these things!!

One of my favorite things is the kraft paper! I use it in place of wrapping paper, especially at Christmas. It’s totally recyclable, it’s super cute when tied up with twine, AND the kids can decorate it!

Of course, reusable water bottles. Ello has been a good brand for me. Plus, it’s glass so, you can use it with your essential oils of you’re into that.

And the BeesWax wrap! They have so many cute designs now, but I’ve seriously reduced my plastic waste since using these bad boys.

If you’re interested in supporting us financially without actually giving us any money AT ALL, then you’re in luck. Click on these links and when you buy them, Amazon gives us some money. They’re pretty cool that way.

Creamy Chicken Yum Yum

From Kristen Barlag Bertke

We have a family favorite….chicken creamy yum yum (this has a cool song and dance in our house) . It’s a meal with a few versions but best described as a dump set forget meal. I use my electric pressure cooker but you could use instant pot or ole crock pot.
1-2lbs chicken (frozen/thawed) (breast or thigh),
one box of chicken broth (4 cups)
1 cup of barley (can do any grain ..but I like barley)
1 cup frozen peas
A bag of baby carrots ( one or two pounds depending,)
1/2 C ranch dressing..(sometimes I use blue cheese).

Then cook on high pressure for 45 min. Mix and shred chicken. Then my husband adds some hot sauce but we don’t in the pot because too spicy for kids. This is a recipe I modify depends on what I have. Another variation include frozen broccoli that will almost completely fall apart and when you stir after cooked may be completely hidden if trying to sneak in more veggies I to kids meals!

Salmon

From Feeding The Family For Less

Feeding The Family For Less

Pop each piece of salmon on top of some tinfoil and smother in green pesto sauce. Wrap up the salmons like a parcel and pop them in the oven on 180 degrees for 25 mins. After 10 minutes, pop some green beans, chopped carrot and mini corn on the cobs in a pan of boiling water and cook for 10 mins. Then boil the kettle and make up some rice or couscous in a jug following the instructions. While the couscous is cooking in the jug, check the salmon by carefully opening one of the parcels. If everything is ready, drain the veggies, pop them on the plates, add the couscous and salmon and enjoy!

This episode is all about squeezing the most out of your day like a good, fresh juice and giving a full glass to your thirsty children. That analogy sucked. But you get the idea…

365 Devotional

Here is the link to the 365 Devotional that I use at the bus stop with my kiddos. Leveraging time with your kids is a crazy balancing act and some days I totally fail at it. Like yesterday after we recorded- I binge watched my guilty pleasure (Hart of Dixie) while the kids were at school and for some reason I was EXHAUSTED when they got home and could barely keep my eyes open let alone hold a meaningful conversation!!! WHAT A MESS!! I am so thankful that each morning is fresh and new! -Your Blonde Host
