Here's a bonus episode for your ears! An extra dose of me talking at you. Today I talk about trusting our instincts. I recently read a passage in "The Creative Habit" by Twyla Tharp that got me thinking a lot about the choices we make onstage.

As performers, we put ourselves out into the world very publicly. Sometimes it can get hard to ignore the noise of all the outside voices telling you "You're doing this wrong!" or "Why did you make that choice?" But at the end of the day we need to trust ourselves and silence those voices. I know it's much easier said than done, but I'm trying to work on it, so maybe we can work on it together!

I'd love to engage with y'all! You can find me on instagram @thankyouplacespod or email me at thankyouplacespod@gmail.com.

Gary and I met a few years back and became friends while working together for Mixed Precipitation's Picnic Operetta.

What I love about Gary is that he has such versatile skill sets. I remember feeling pressure when I was in college to only want one thing and to only focus on one thing. Gary's story clearly shows that that's not true.

The more people that I interview, the more I realize that having one path and one path only is a myth. We should stop telling young performers to only focus on one thing and let them explore and figure things out for themselves.

In today's episode I sit down with Dorian Brooke. Dorian and I met late last year while performing in Mary Poppins at Artistry Theater and man, can Dorian tap!

In this episode we talk about teaching. Both of us teach our craft and we talk about how rewarding it is to both perform and teach. Although our focus was how teaching and performing can work hand in hand, we also talk about the Minneapolis performing scene, being grateful in your work, and of course, the importance of being on time.

Welcome to episode 1 of THANK YOU PLACES! I'm so excited to be hosting this podcast. About a year ago I started a YouTube channel where I wanted to talk openly about a lot of things performers don't like to talk about. That quickly blossomed into sharing life experiences of my colleagues and friends as well. As I kept producing videos, I realized that what I really wanted to be doing was podcasting and highlighting Minneapolis-based artists. So here we are! I hope you'll follow along with me!
