A well known pastor recently disqualified him by bring reproach upon the name of Christ. I have tried to filter my thoughts through a Biblical lens and I'm sharing them with you in this episode.
In this episode, I define the philosophy of postmodernism. I identify the historical roots of the movement and what postmodernism is a reaction against (rationalism/modernism). Finally, I provide some tips for interacting with people who think in a postmodern way so that you can effectively witness to them.
There are many aspects of spiritual warfare that we must be engaged in as Christians; the warfare has become more open in recent years due to our society's rejection of God's truth. One area where we must engage in battle is the war over children: Satan wants them to adopt an anti-Biblical, anti-God worldview and we must be aware of his schemes and methods. Fathers ought to be at the forefront of this battle, but many are too immersed in their own pursuits.

This week's episode examines the common arguments that are used in favor of affirming Biblical support for LGBTQ "Christians". There are five common lines of argumentation which have been used to alter the Church's historical position regarding sex and sexuality. I explain each tactic and why it is not a valid argument.
The main problem with accepting an LGBTQ "Christian" is that sin has been redefined. It's impossible to become a true Christian without repentance; therefore, we must accept God's definition of sin and submit to Jesus's call to repent. If we do, then we can be saved from any sin - no matter how great or small!
What is the Gospel of Affirmation? This is a phrase I coined to describe the willingness of certain so-called Christians to re-define the true Gospel in order to be more "inclusive" of the LGBTQ+ community. The Gospel of Affirmation allows so-called "Christians" to maintain a sexual identity or practice which is contrary to God's created order.

Often Same Sex Attraction (S.S.A.) is a struggle that Christians face alone. The "church" has often done a poor job of helping believers think through this particular issue and how or when it crosses the line to become sin. Some Christians are afraid of talking about their struggles with it because "LGBTQ" sin has been ostracized as the "worst" kind of sin a person could commit. Of course, this isn't true, but for many, their perception has become reality (and sadly, some churches have indeed treated it as such).
In this episode, I define S.S.A. and provide Biblical insight as to how it ought to be categorized in the different "types" of sin a person might commit, and how victory over it can be achieved.
One of the great spiritual disciplines that has been used by God's people all throughout history is the practice of fasting. However, when one examines the evangelical church in America over the last 40-50 years, one would have a hard time discerning if fasting is even relevant anymore. Think about it: When is the last time you heard a sermon or Sunday school lesson on fasting? When is the last you time yourself fasted, or even heard of someone fasting?
This episode seeks to define fasting and understand the spiritual benefits and blessings of this important practice.

While this podcast isn't based upon the "reaction and critique" kind of content, an event occurred recently in the conservative evangelical sphere of Christianity which requires comment and clarity. In late January, Pastor Alistair Begg was recorded on a radio program offering advice to a woman who wanted to attend her grandchild's LGBTQ "wedding" ceremony. In his response to her, he suggested she go; his advice caused a great deal of controversy in conservative circles.
After having listened to the original interview and follow up sermon, this episode is my attempt to offer some brotherly pastoral counsel to Pastor Begg (whom I greatly respect) and some clarity for Christians who may be considering this question from a practical standpoint.

It is good to examine your roots - especially your theological roots. Often, we find that the messages and sermons preached in days gone by are as relevant and needed today as they were when first delivered.
Today, I recorded a sermon first delivered by the Original Jonathan Edwards, on December 29, 1734. This was his New Year's message to the congregation. We would all do well to heed the exhortation found in this message.

From a pastor's perspective, here are the seven most spiritually significant events of this year. These are events where theology and culture, or the church and the culture, have collided and they represent the main points of the spiritual battle we face.
In case you haven't noticed, since Roe v. Wade was overturned, the pro-life movement has suffered a number of defeats at the state level. I live in Ohio, a state which recently passed Issue 1, which enshrines abortion and abortion access into the constitution of our state.
This episode details three reasons why Pro-Lifers keep losing; there are certainly more reasons than these, however, the three detailed in this episode are true cornerstone issues that I identified from a pastoral perspective.
The bottom line: if pastors are truly pro-life, then they need to ensure their church goers understand this is firstly a moral issue, not a political issue. Pastors need to step up and lead in this issue, and (as a collective) they're not.
What Biblical principles guide the thinking of Christian couples (or soon to be couples) as they consider family planning? Is it even right to consider family planning, or should you just have "as many kids as God allows"?

It has been a little over one year since the Supreme Court of the United States overturned Roe v. Wade with their ruling in the Dobbs case.
Despite this monumental victory, there is a lot of work still to do in order to protect innocent life.
This episode will explore some statistics that reveal the weight of this victory, as well as describe how far we still have to go. Additionally, this episode examines the religious motivations behind the PRO-CHOICE movement and the PRO-LIFE movement, and offers a suggestion for how Christians continue to address this issue.

This episode examines three reasons why people commit mass shootings, and also looks at how these same reasons may contribute to lackluster police response to the shootings (especially in the case of the Uvalde Police Department).

Since the last few episodes have focused on the creation ordinance of authority and dominion, it seemed wise to try to apply the truths about submission to authority and honoring government authorities to the situation in Russia and Ukraine.
Please remember that this is a suggestion of how to apply these truths, without having a complete and exhaustive understanding of the laws in either country. The goal is to help you think about how you can submit to the governing authorities that you live under to the glory of Christ.

Today, I discuss the fallacy of the current clamor in our culture for justice. Continuing the discussion on marriage would not be possible without discussing communication between the sexes. We must consider several important Biblical truths in regards to communication. The following questions are answered in this episode:
What makes human communication different than the communication that occurs in the animal kingdom?
What are the two main types of communication are we able to perform
Why is it important that our verbal and non-verbal communications communicate the same (or similar) messages?
In this episode, I examine four more aspects of submission. The challenge in two of these aspects is this: how do you know when you're acting according to your Christian duty vs. acting according the curse given to women (that they would desire to rule their husbands) in Genesis 3:16?
Wives, may you be both encouraged and convicted by these truths. Husbands, may you seek to be a godly leader, making it easier for your wife to fulfill her God-given role.

Submission in marriage is one of the most challenging and controversial topics that married couples have to navigate. Our duty as believers is to determine to understand and practice what God says about submission, not what our culture or our feelings teach about it.

As a believer, what ideological line will you draw in the sand? What will you NOT do in order to maintain obedience to Jesus Christ? Everyone says that they don't want to compromise truth, but have you thought about what issues of truth those will be?
Please think carefully about how you will defend the Word and honor Christ - we are His servants, above all else!
When you are suffering under various trials, how do you pray about that? What questions do you ask God?
One overlooked question by many Christians is this: Am I suffering as a result of God's discipline in my life due to personal sin? The answer isn't always "yes," but as a believer you should be at least asking the question!

My personal conviction is that understanding the theology behind our actions is critical to actually producing change. When you understand the mechanism of something, it's often easier to implement.
As stay-at-home orders begin to expire and life begins to return to "normal", we should each be asking ourselves, "What did I learn from this experience? What was God trying to teach me? How did I handle myself?"
Questions of self reflection are important, for they reveal the true nature of our hearts and the transformation we've experienced through the trial. My hope is that you've grown in Christ-likeness as a result of this test!

Remember, as God's children, He says that if we confess our sin He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) May we as believers be the first to acknowledge and confess our sins, that we might continue in good fellowship with God and not fall under His discipline.
For many of us, a lot of thoughts run through our minds during times of crisis. It can be hard to stop wondering "What will happen?" and focus on "What should I do right now?"
I present a rundown of some thoughts/ideas that might be going around in our collective minds. Then I offer two truths that ought to ground us in the present: 1) The need to truly rely upon God's sovereign control and 2) God's command to worry only about today.

To practice God's truth means we need to understand God's original intent. Sin has perverted God's design and Satan works overtime to keep us from discerning and knowing it. Today I discuss what God's original intent is regarding male/female interaction within marriage (and by extension, society) and I do a deep-dive into defining headship and its practice.
You don't have to wear glasses or have a genius IQ to see and know that marriage is in trouble. Why? I attempt to answer the question in this episode, as well as begin explaining God's original intention for marriage.

In this episode, I discuss the Western view of heart/head vs God's view, as explained in Scripture. The implications of this discussion have a drastic impact on how a local church views "worship" and what kind/type of environment they seek to cultivate for those who attend on Sundays.
What do you expect when you go to the corporate worship gathering? What makes worship "successful" or "unsuccessful"?
I lay out two common presuppositions that Westerners have regarding corporate worship and begin to break down the contrast of man's view of man and God's view of man.

What prevents us from pure and unadulterated worship?
Examining the first pitfall that we often fall into in our worship, that of having a divided allegiance.
Don't passively listen; take time to actively evaluate your allegiances.
There are so many expressions of "worship" that it is often hard to get a good working definition for "worship." Often, worshiped is defined by how it makes us feel or how it's supposed to make us feel. In contrast to this, the Bible defines worship in a very specific manner. It is both an attitude and an action - one cannot be present without the other for genuine worship to take place.
Consider carefully this argument and definition, and leave me any comments or questions!

I'm on vacation this week, but I recorded this episode before I left. What the Christian community is witnessing with Joshua Harris' renunciation of Christianity produces both sorrow, frustration, fear, anger, and sadness all at the same time. Mostly, we fear for his soul, for we know that the warning passages in Hebrews indicate that one who has "tasted and seen and experienced the good gift of God" and then falls away cannot return again.
What I intended to record was 15 minutes or so on my brief thoughts - but then...well, you know what happens to pastors!

How Christians manipulate the truth to create false ideas about what actions Jesus would and wouldn't approve.
Satan's role in manipulating truth and manipulating Christians to blend truth and lies.
Truth detached from a fixed point - a figurative "mooring" to keep it from floating away.
The concept of "true-truth" was introduced and explained by Francis Schaeffer in the 1970s to provide a foundation for discussion and dialogue with the "modern-man." Today, we recognize that the "modern-man" is really an individual who has been shaped by post-modern philosophies, especially deconstructionism and Hegelian dialectic theory.
How do these philosophies play out in culture? Most people can't identify the big idea, but they can see the end result - current marketing campaigns such as "You do you" are a perfect example of deconstructionism.
What does this mean for the average believer or unbeliever? The discussion focuses on presuppositions and truth foundations and their practice in everyday life.
A discussion on one of the hardest things to do honesty: turn the spotlight on yourself. Not in a morbid way, but in a true sense, with the Word of God as the measuring stick and evaluation tool.
Answering the questions: How should I think about money from a Biblical theology?
How can I glorify God with the use of my money? Pastor Jonathan Edwards shares his testimony regarding how to bring glory to God with financial stewardship.

One of the most challenging aspects of theology to understand is a concept found both in Exodus and in Romans: What does it mean when God says He hardens someone's heart?
In this episode, I spend time developing the Biblical terms "heart" and "harden" and then discuss both human responsibility and the divine will in the process of hardening.
After completing this study, what struck me most is this: It's not a wonder that God hardens anyone's heart, but rather, that God has mercy on anyone, for our hearts are desperately wicked and deserving of all the punishment God could mete out!
In this episode, I define "worldview" from God's Word and explain the significance of a person's worldview and how that impacts the choices one makes in life.
There are three factors that influence one's worldview.
Important verses to help understand and change your worldview are Romand 12:1-2 and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.

Why are the teen years so frustrating for parents? (The teens are asking, "Why are they so frustrating for me?!")
During the teen years, parents need to recognize that a fundamental shift occurs in how they shepherd their children. The teen years are for helping your children learn how to use freedom responsibility and to apply the lessons of obedience and character which you've already taught them.
The three training objectives come from Proverbs 1:7-10.

What is the circle of blessing (Eph. 6:1-3) and how do parents teach their children to live within it? How should parents respond when their children live outside of it?
The critical component for parents in training their children to honor and obey is consistency.
Proverbs says, "Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him." (13:24)
What does the use of the rod look like for the Christian parent? How should it be employed and what are the limitations? Finally, there are three abuses of the rod that parents sometimes partake in - be careful not to do these!
Why has the use of the rod fallen out of favor in our culture?
What is God's purpose in commanding that parents use the rod in the correction of children?

What situations do parents encounter where they should NOT use the rod?
The four "expenses" that parents must be willing to pay to cultivate a life of communication?
The relation between authority and influence. For this discussion, authority is defined as what you can accomplish because you're bigger, faster, stronger, than your children. Influence is what you can accomplish because your child is willing to place himself under your authority. As your child gets older your authority (in this limited sense) decreases, while your influence should increase.
What percentage of your communication with your children is "actual" (our normal pattern of communication) compared to the percentage which is "ideal" (according to God's standard)?
Actual = focus is on communicating rules, correction, discipline
Ideal = all of the above + Rebuke, entreaty, encouragement, teaching, warning, instruction, and prayer.
Key passages: Deut. 6:7-13, 1 Cor. 13:4-7, Eph. 4:29

Cultivating the right mindset: proactive, focused on deep communication, a "long-term view," and a commitment that you are more like your child than unlike him.

The two tools that the Bible gives for the process of shepherding: the rod and communication.
Have you ever taken a bird's eye view of your parenting goals? What are you hoping to accomplish through your education and training of your children?
One of the challenges that Christians face is unconsciously cultivating unbiblical goals - due to pressures from society and culture. Today we examine several areas of life where Christians can have unbiblical goals and what the correct Biblical perspective in those areas should be.
Mark 7:14-23 - What is it that defiles a person? The food that he eats or the thoughts of the heart? Jesus provides a concrete answer.
Children live out of the abundance of the heart and one of the primary goals of parenting is to discern what that abundance is. The challenge for parents is to take time to disern the thoughts and intentions of the heart and then to know which Scripture passages and principles will address those intentions.
How does our culture think about authority? How has the culture's perspective influenced Christian parents? What is Biblical authority and how is it applied?
Biblical authority results in Biblical discipline - defining discipline and explaining the difference between discipline and punishment.
Question of reflection: If I don't practice Biblical authority or discipline in my child-rearing, what does that say about my love and devotion to God?
