Jesus is the Messiah. He is the savior of the world. He proved Himself through His actions and His words. But even a prophet like John the Baptist, who is the spirit of Elijah, doubted (just like Elijah!). Jesus did not make things easy for John just because he was struggling. But He did point John to the written Word to find his confidence. Let us remember how Jesus counseled John, so we can properly lead ourselves and others when our faith grows weak.

Christ coming to this earth to save sinners was (and is) a great act of grace on God's part. God doing what we could never do, nor deserve to receive. But sometimes we act as though the Grace of God acted in regards to our salvation, but then the rest of our life is lived in relative agnosticism - "who knows if God is part of all of this?"
But the Scriptures make it clear that God wants His grace to infiltrate our entire life, not just the moment of our conversion.

In this Beatitude, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness," we discuss the transformation that occurs in the one who has come to the posture of poverty, mourning, and meekness and has received the faith of God. First, there is a transformation of appetite. The origin of a transformed life is the life that was sacrificed on our behalf so that we could have a righteousness that we could not obtain. Without indwelling righteousness, practical righteousness is worthless. We must first hunger for the One who can actually provide.
