With the campaign the SABC soapie aims to influence SA men to appreciate women as they are
Over its 22-year history on air, the show has come under fire for colourism - often accused by its critics of casting in key female roles actors with lighter skin over those with darker skin. Show creator Duma Ndlovu, however, denied to Sowetan and insisted that his cast has always been inclusive of different skin shades.
"Through this campaign, we want to encourage young girls from different backgrounds to love themselves as they are in their own skin many young women suffer from low self-esteem and depression principally due to self-doubt caused by the way they look.”

He describes the last year as tough, but very rewarding: Skyrule Drinks was among the top 20 at the 2018 South African Small Business Awards.
For Mhaule the best part of being an entrepreneur is the knowledge that his destiny is in his own hands.

Letepe Maisela is an author of three other books: 'Survival in the Corporate Jungle' (1998), 'The Empowered Native' (2005) and Thabo, the Computer and the Mouse' (2014). The latter is a children's story book. It is a recently published fiction novel set in Soweto at the beginning of South Africa’s democratic era under the Presidency of Nelson Mandela. It narrates the trials and tribulations of a young married African couple, struggling to start a family .
The story takes a lot of twists and turns and reads at the fast pace of a roller coaster with its electrifying ups and downs captured in 424 pages. Journalist and author Bongani Madondo gives his tacit endorsement of the book: ‘This story is a searing portrait of a country in its formative yet pivotal period. The author aptly describes a moment in which individuals within a nation are morphed from ‘statistics’ to live fuller, messier, sexier, dumber and quite complex lives. He achieves this through fiction and not social history or some such, thus rendering the story of a people caught in a whirlwind of a country in transition. So interchangeable are the characters’ lives with ours: this is a realist fiction at its most taunting.’

One could ask why South Africa has such a high number of black men diagnosed with prostate cancer, and why so many white males are diagnosed with testicular cancer, with most getting diagnosed late. Is it because of fear, shame or have we not taken such issues seriously enough? In some communities talking about private parts is a taboo! But at what cost? All it takes is Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test for men over 40 to test for prostate cancer. And men as young as 15 can do regular self examinations to check for abnormalities in their testicles. According to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), black men have the highest chance of contracting prostate cancer, with a frighteningly high-risk rate of up to one in four (25 percent), while white men have a lower, but still scary risk rate, of 10 percent. There’s a 98% survival rate with early detection, but only a 30% chance once it has spread to other parts of the body. Yet South Africa has one of the world’s highest rates for prostate cancer spreading to other parts of the body because men don’t get screened.

As South Africa joins the international community in celebrating World Literacy in the month of September, a multi-stakeholder formation under the auspices of the National Education Trust (NET) has developed a comprehensive blueprint that provides a roadmap to improve learners’ reading has been unveiled. The blueprint which is known as the National Reading Plan (NRP), was developed by the National Reading Coalition (NRC) which is currently incubated in the National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT), a multi- stakeholder organisation, with a mission to enhance education outcomes in the country. The NRP provides guidance and a basis for an improved coordination of current and potential role players in the efforts to improve reading levels in South African primary schools. The NRP will be officially rolled out from November this year following public hearings and a series of provincial consultations with stakeholders in the sector.

He had his first taste of farming in 2014 when he visited his aunt, who sold chickens. At the time he noticed that returns on investments were good. “I remember I was on leave, but after helping my aunt I immediately applied for an extension of two weeks unpaid leave. When I went back to work I asked my employer for three months' unpaid leave. That’s when I fell in love with poultry and farming, and I sent my employer a resignation letter.” He had returned from London where he worked as an auditor after completing his accounting and finance studies. His Cullinan poultry and crops farm employs 18 people. He is selling at least 4000 chickens weekly. However, his big focus was now on crops because of their better returns and smaller risks.
