The Dogcast explores all things dog to help us understand everything our dogs would love for us to know, to help make our lives together, a little happier.
The relationship between dogs and people is unique and unlike any other. But how did this symbiotic relationship come into being? How did the domestic dog evolve from ancient wolves? In this podcast, I talk to James Serpell to try and lift the lid on these fascinating questions.
The Muttropolitan Dogcast explores all things dog behaviour and welfare, to educate and raise awareness for us all, in a bid to better understand everything our dogs would love for us to know, to help make their lives happier. Do you know how Greyhounds went from being noble creatures to a mere commodity within the gambling industry? These beautiful and sensitive creatures are companion animals, just like all dogs yet their lives are hidden behind a veil of secrecy. Lisa Hickman has the pleasure of chatting to Lucinda Reed from Greyhound Compassion and Trudy Baker from Greyt Exploitations about their tireless efforts in lobbying for changes in the law and improving the welfare of these dogs. Come find out about the wonderful work these women have done for Greyhounds and how you can help them too.

Today, I chat to Marc Abraham, who has campaigned tirelessly for ten years to bring in Lucy's Law, a dog welfare law to end puppy farming and make dog breeders accountable. We talk about irresponsible breeding and the detrimental effects puppy farming has on the welfare of dogs; the breeding mother, the puppies and even the effect it has on us humans when we have to see and deal with these detrimental effects, from poor health to fearful dogs to everything in-between. It's time for all this to stop and for us to understand the new law in England (and hopefully the rest of the UK soon) called Lucy's Law - named after a lovely little King Charles Spaniel who was saved from five years of exploitation in a puppy farm.
It's time we start educating ourselves about Lucy's Law and how we can help change the welfare of dogs, for the better.

After hearing my emotional story last week about the reality of living with a fearful dog, I have the absolute honour to chat to Nic Crampton, the founder of RDUK, a Facebook Group that solely intends to support people with reactive dogs, from trainer approved advice to the emotional support that is missing from the real world. We also talk about the force free protocols that are out there to set our beloved dogs up for success, in an attempt to show them ways of living without fear.
It really is cool to be kind. Judgements are not tolerated here. Love & Kindness is the only way.

What is it really like to own a fearful dog? Dogs are sentient beings and if not introduced to the world effectively, can live in a constant state of fear and this can have devastating consequences on them and their owners. In todays episode, Danny DeCourtelle turns the tables on me and we have an emotional chat about the reality of living with a fearful dog.

Dog nutrition is a hot topic and we all love to discuss what we should feed our dogs when chatting in parks or on social media but do we really know what we are talking about? Are we buying into fads and myths? Dogs are very special to us so it's really important that we know how to feed them using scientific knowledge, to keep them happy and healthy. In this podcast, I talk to Linda Case about dog nutrition and wade through all the hearsay and find out some fascinating facts.

Socialisation is the process where a dog learns to recognise and interact with others, that it intends to co-habit with and by doing so they develop communication signals to help them respond to the intentions of everything around them including whether they are being threatened or not. Danny DeCourtelle and I chat about the importance of understanding the true meaning of socialisation as well as other words used in the dog world.

Dogs are sentient beings, they are constantly communicating and telling us how they really feel. It is important that we begin to understand them so we can start to deepen our bonds and listen to what they are telling us. In this podcast, Danny DeCourtelle and I chat about the fascinating subject of Dog Body Language.
