Martin Perry is a professional Scottish para table tennis player, European Team player and British Champion 2019.He was born with a condition known as Congenital Limb Loss & Deformity resulting in him being born with no hands and only one leg. Growing up with three older brothers, Martin wasn’t allowed to feel sorry for himself as they made sure he was included in everything, including sport. Martin played many sports including football, rugby, basketball and athletics until he found table tennis.Martin is also a motivational speaker delivering presentations on overcoming adversity, resilience and harnessing problem-solving skills.

Libby Clegg is a Scottish Paralympian sprinter who competes at both 100 and 200m events. She has represented both Scotland and Great Britain at international events. Libby represented Great Britain in the 100m and 200m at the 2008 Summer Paralympics, winning a silver medal in the 100m race. Libby won Gold in Rio at the 2016 Paralympic Games in 100m where she broke the world record and 200m, beating the previous Paralympic record in the process, thus making her a double Paralympic champion.

This week we are joined by former Rangers scout Ewan Chester. Ewan collected 35 trophies during his time at Rangers. He spent 20 odd years at the club over two spells. Ewan has also worked closely with Premier League Manager Chris Hughton spending 10 years in England with Fulham, Norwich, Birmingham and Brighton in the Premier League and English Championship. Ewan shares many stories of his time working in professional football and touches on some of the main challenges faced as a scout at the top level and the relationship between the scout and the manager.

This week we are joined by Dick Campbell who is the current manager of Arbroath FC. Campbell's playing career was based in Scotland with various clubs and is more known for his management career which includes successful lengthy spells at Brechin City and Forfar Athletic. He also managed Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline Athletic, Partick Thistle and Ross County. He has achieved five promotions at four clubs with the highlights taking Brechin from the fourth tier to the second tier and repeated the feat with Arbroath many years later.

This week we are joined by Ali McGregor. Ali has worked as a qualified teacher for over 15 years, 12 of those have been spent working with young people with SEN. Over the last 11 years Ali has worked for a private educational provider in a number of roles including classroom teacher, Head of PE, Deputy Headteacher and Headteacher. Ali has supported the set up of a number of independent special needs schools over the past 7 years, with one of them being named TES School of the Year recently. Ali has recently led a school to a very successful OFSTED inspection in March 2018, graded Outstanding in all areas. In addition to this, Ali has also played in two Commonwealth Games and one Olympic games as a Hockey player.

This week we are joined by Dr Mike Jess from Edinburgh University who is a senior lecturer in Physical Education. His personal interests focus on the relationship between complexity thinking, ecological perspectives and professional practice. He is currently project leader of Visions and Voices: a longitudinal project that seeks to develop teachers’ personal visions as a key feature of future developments in physical education. Mike 's recent work is concentrated on complex adaptive practice, boundary crossing, transdisciplinary, becoming, lesson study and self-study.

This week we are joined by Kate Jones who is a teacher, leader and author of several retrieval practice books which provide fantastic resources for our classrooms. Kate is Head of History at The British School Al Khubairat in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Originally from Wrexham in North Wales, Kate taught in the UK for six years at Elfed High School before relocating to the UAE in 2016. Kate is also a lead practitioner who specialises in teaching and learning and most notably, retrieval practice, which we discuss in depth in this week's episode.

George Maxwell had one of his school pupils, Gordon Smith as a team mate during his early days and then later coached Kris Boyd. Not only is he the highest scoring defender in the club’s history, he was also crowned the “Man with the hardest shot in Scotland”. George is on today to talk to us about his career in education and football. We ask George about the greatest challenges he faced and how he overcame them. Nicola Carse currently works at the University of Edinburgh. Her role is Deputy Head of the Institute for Sport, Physical Education and Health Sciences and works as a Lecturer in the Physical Education courses. Nicola undertook a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education at the University of Edinburgh. After graduating from the PGCE she worked as a primary school teacher for eight years where she developed an interest in environmental education and physical education. Whilst teaching she studied on the Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Physical Education at the University of Edinburgh and then progressed to undertake a PhD at the University of Edinburgh which she completed in 2012. After completing her PhD Nicola worked as a lecturer at the University of Strathclyde for two and a half years. Owen Coyle Junior is the head coach for the England National Amputee Football team. He was given the task of guiding the the team at the European Championships in Istanbul in 2017 which we shares with us in this week's episode. Owen is also a football agent which he combines with his coaching duties. He has completed his Ph.D. on TPSR at The University of Illinois at Chicago, within the Education Curriculum and Instruction department. Dillon Landi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology within the College of Health Professions at Towson University. His research and teaching are focused on health, physical activity, and education. In addition, his work encompasses social theory, research methods, equity and diversity, and gender/sexuality. Dillon has achieved Ph.D., Education at The University of Auckland in 2019 exploring LGBTQ+ youth experiences in health, physical activity, and educational settings which we touch on in today's episode. This week's episode marks the 3rd webinar from the boys at AWBOE. We were joined this week by DHT Marie Kerr from Smithycroft Secondary School in the east end of Glasgow. Today we are joined by Professor Kate Wall on AWBOE. Kate’s work focuses on the development of innovative pedagogies and research methodologies (including visual approaches) that facilitate effective talk about learning (metacognition). As a former Primary teacher, she is interested in the development and exploration of democratic spaces where learners can talk about their experiences of learning. Today on the podcast Kate discusses the value of practitioner inquiry. She has worked extensively in partnership with teachers of all ages and stages, using practitioner enquiry approaches and has a growing interest in how tools with pedagogic and methodological origins can be used to support the development of practice. Kate has used the same ideas when working under a 'students as researchers' or ‘student voice’ heading with children as young as 4. Finally, Kate is interested in methodologies for gathering learners’ views on experience, curriculum and learning.

Garry Hay joins the boys on A Wee Bit of Everything this week to talk about all things school of football. Garry is a player and coach development officer with the SFA in the South West Region. Garry is a Scottish former professional footballer, who played in over 300 Scottish Premier League games for Kilmarnock. Donnie began his career (post Jordanhill College at Scottish School of Physical Education) as a PE Development Officer in the Scottish Borders based at the Queens Centre, Galashiels. Following this, he spent 18 months as a Graduate Assistant in the Physical Recreation at Stirling University. Afterwards, Donnie spent 10 years as at PE Teacher Larbert High School in Falkirk as teacher and assistant Principal Teacher. He was then PT PE at Lenzie Academy in East Dunbartonshire and spent 14 years as a school inspector with HMIE – firstly as a secondary inspector and National Specialist for PE and Lead Inspector for Outdoor Learning. He then moved to Area Lead Officer linked with the Ayrshire Education Authorities. His last two years have been spent as Head of Service with Glasgow City Council Education.

This week we are joined by Nickademus de la Rosa. Nick specialises in endurance coaching and is a gait analyst. He is passionate about working with individuals who think running isn't for them but maybe they've seen some videos, their friend did a marathon and they kind of want to try it however they have constant niggles or aren’t quite sure on where to begin. Nick is also passionate about the psychological and postural side of running where he often shares his knowledge on his instagram account with informative technical breakdowns of how to improve your running technique. On top of this, Nick is also an avid ultra endurance athlete. His most impressive achievement is winning the Barkley Marathons in 2013 which is considered to be one of the toughest, if not, the toughest running event on the planet. To put this into context, the event has been running for over 30 years and there have been fewer than 20 finishers. Nick also talks to us a lot about mental health and the importance of doing what you do for the love and enjoyment of it as opposed to seeking external validation from others. A very interesting conversation and one not to be missed.

Mark is well known for his impressive endurance cycling feats with his most recent expedition being an around the planet cycle in 78 days, where he broke 2 world records in the process. That is an average of 240 miles per day for 78 consecutive days. Mark shares how he prepares his body physically and mentally for the expeditions he takes on. He also shares some of the many lessons he has learned throughout his challenges, like the time he and a team of fellow rowers attempted to row across the Atlantic Ocean and capsized for several hours before being rescued by a passing ship.

This week on the podcast, we welcome Emma Drewery. Emma graduated from UWCC with a BSc(Hons) in Optometry followed by a pre-registration working year at Newcastle Royal Infirmary Eye Department. She worked in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling for independent and group opticians for over ten years. Whilst working she gained a diploma in Sports Vision in 2004 and also began her training with the British Association of Behavioural Optometrists. In 2007 Emma opened her own optometrist practice in Bridge of Allan to help her develop her specialist skills in sport and childrens vision alongside providing high quality family eyecare. We are joined this week by Dan Nash who is an experienced marathon runner holding a PB of 2 hours and 18 minutes. Dan finished 2nd and 4th at Brighton Marathon (2018, 2019). He also holds the world 50km bronze medalist and is the British 50km record holder. On top of his running achievements Dan has a BSc in Biomedical Science, an MSc in Exercise Physiology, and he is a PhD candidate in exercise physiology. It's fair to say Dan has a sound understanding of how to train the body to maximise our running ability and he shares a lot of this knowledge with us during this episode.

This week on the show we are joined by team Scotland and team GB Gymnast, Shannon Archer. Shannon's passion for gymnastics started when she was only 4 years old. As a result of her commitment, work ethic and discipline she has made to the elite level in the sport where she has represented her country at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018 where she managed to get a top 10 finish for her performance. On today's episode, Shannon covers what a week of training looks like for her on the build up to a competition, how she trains her body to remain flexible and the importance of this and how she manages her anxiety prior to performing on the beam. We also find out what makes a high quality Gymnastics performance. It's inspiring for us to see how disciplined Shannon is with her training and how much work is required to stay in peak condition for gymnastics. It seems there really is no substitute for hard work and consistency.

This week we had the pleasure of interviewing Ajax ladies goalkeeper, Stephanie Bukovec. During this interview we delve into how information is gathered on Steph's fitness and performance levels and how this information is then used to shape her training when playing at the top level. We also find out how she monitors her progress throughout the season.
