I was asked not too long ago if I would like to interview a New York Best Selling Author, I wasn't sure how I could work it into British Baseball, but I didn't have to, but there are elements of British Baseball in Joe's book and it even has a segment dedicated to it, sounded like a fun idea and having had the chance to interview writers in the past, I found them and their subjects extremely fascinating. Bostonian Jake Mitchell has played a few seasons on British Baseball and joins the show to talk us through his life growing up in Boston, his families support, memories of watching baseball games with loved ones, Fenway Park memories, playing baseball in the North West of England, balancing friendships with management of them as team mates and much more.
Whilst I'm on this journey to find some new sports and activities the British Baseball community can try whilst in the offseason, one thing I had noticed during these activities was that I was still 17 stone. I asked Alan Dean from Smarter Performance, who is part of the GB Baseball set-up as their Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, for some advice to go alongside these fun little 10 minute segments, but what I got was an hour and a half of Alans time, 40 mins of which were recorded. I was able to talk about my struggles with food and how I have a very unusual relationship with it, what I got in return was some fantastic advice and tips that I think you might be able to get something from. We cover Consistency, Buddy systems, mindful eating, putting the fork down, portion control and what can we take away from the very best athletes he has worked with and apply it to our day to day lives. Gabe Rincones Jr (@GaBeRincones) is the son of former Seattle Mariners Pitcher Gabriel Rincones Sr, he just been drafted for the 2nd time. Gabe tells us about the emotions of draft day and ultimately declining an offer, only to be drafted again in 2022 in the 3rd round by the Phillies. i had the pleasure of chatting to Andrew Taylor of the Folkstone Baseball Chronicle about his passion for British Baseball History, how he discovered baseball in Britain, how Folkstone seemed to be the centre of all things baseball in Britain in the early 1900s, thoughts on how we can get more people to take interest in British baseball history starting with their own club, his favourite characters from British baseball history and the best things hes discovered whilst researching British Baseball
Michael Harrold was the Great Britain national team's longest tenured manager, leading the squad to a European title in 1988 and the juniors to a championship in 1993. His exceptional career also included stints as a distinguished player at both the national and domestic levels, as well as success as a manager in domestic league play. A talented catcher-pitcher, Harrold was named to Great Britain squads for the 1971 and 1984 European Championships as well as European qualifying games in 1974 and 1975. As a member of the Nottingham Lions from 1970 to 1976, he led his club to two league championships, two league cups, and a national Knock-out Cup title. During that stretch, he was named the club's Most Valuable Batter twice and Most Valuable Player once. More success followed with the Southglade Hornets from 1979 to 1992. The dominant Midlands club, which he pitched for and then began managing in 1985, captured nine league titles and eight cup trophies along with a number of other pieces of hardware - most notably, a national Knock-out Cup trophy in 1986 - during his tenure. His teams were also national runners up four times. Personal accomplishments during that stretch included two league Most Valuable Player awards (1980 and 1983) and a league cup Most Valuable Player award (1981). From 1988 to 1995, Harrold skippered the Great Britain national team. It was an era in which non-domestic players did not represent a large contingent of the national team. With a squad made up of primarily born-and-bred British players, Harrold navigated Great Britain to a title at the 1988 European Championship B-Pool. He also led the junior national team to the top of the B-Pool at the 1993 championships. In addition to his work on the field, Harrold was a long-time administrator. Among his many roles, he served as British Baseball Federation president and a member of the British Olympic committee. Finally, through his commitment to the Old Timers Baseball Club he was able to continue as an active baseball player through his 50s and competed in his last game aged 60, against an Italian touring team. - GB HoF

"Everybody should get a chance" GB baseball Hall of Famer Alex Malihoudis, The first British player to win medals in 2 different European Championships and a regular fixture in the GB setup topping many offensive category lists in the 1990s and 2000s joins the show. He lead the National Baseball League in hits and runs scored also winning the NBL best defensive short stop in 2008, stolen bases in 2005 and won the batting crown in 1998 in the National Premier League South with a batting average of .564, described as a key defender at short stop or centre field.
He talks about the early days and being the 4th member of the Tonbridge Bobcats, Margret Burley MBE, the hardest bloke in Tonbridge, how his baseball heroes were not MLB players but home grown talents, why Catching was his favourite position he's played, meeting Craig Savage and wanting to play at the highest level, playing in the states at highschool and college, playing in the same leagues that Tom Brady had played in, the importance of regular game time, which MLB coach slept in his bunk bed, overcoming injury at a pivotal point in his career, anxiety in games, driving in winning runs in crucial games and more all with a very special guest cohost (and Alex's long time friend and team mate) Will Lintern, who Alex had no idea was joining the episode, so i took a back seat and let the 2 of them chat about baseball and careers and its a fascinating and interesting conversation im excited to be able to share with you.

Thomas. Matt is joined by Ryan Ferguson, he's had work published by BBC sport, the Guardian, MLB.com and the British Baseball Federation, his second book entitled "Conflict: The Yankees, the Red Sox and the War for My Heart" is out now and is a damn good read, it explores Ryan's early love of baseball and how he quit being a life long Boston Redsox fan and do the unimaginable, he started rooting for their arch rivals, the New York Yankees.
