On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “What is written in the Law?” he replied.
“How do you read it?” He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and, Love your neighbor as yourself.’” “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.” But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” - Luke 10:25-37
My Life Message - Part 1 We begin a new sermon series 'My Life Message'. In this set of messages, we'll be inviting members of our church to share with us a bible verse that's resonated with them on a very personal level; one that they feel has guided their lives so far. First up is pastor Dave Wells! Here's the verse he'll be speaking on this week: "The thief comes only to kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." - John 10:10
The Rest of God: Part 3 Throughout this sermon series, we've seen how God draws us to himself to experience rest for our souls. We've even seen how he established the principle of rest right from the beginning of creation. So what does practically applying this knowledge to our lives look like? Like so many things, we can see this idea exemplified in the life of Jesus. He was someone who never seemed hurried, worried, or in a panic; full of grace and patience, full of passion, and incredibly cool in every situation. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Just like in the natural world, we go through different seasons in our lives; seasons of sowing and reaping, seasons of hardship and of blessing. Seasons of building, and of things coming to an end. The changing of these seasons is beyond our control, but we can control how we prepare for them.
This Sunday, Pastor Joel Wells will share the first part of a new sermon series dedicated to uncovering the requirements, tools, and attitudes that will allow us to flourish - no matter what season we're in.

We’ve seen the power that’s released when we simply begin to move - when we move, God moves. But often the beginning can also be the most vulnerable time. Beginning faith is vulnerable to the forces that come against it before it’s rooted.
If the seed of faith isn’t watered and nurtured, it can die as quickly as it sprouted. Taking the first step is the start, but how can we persevere and endure in the middle of the struggle?

Sometimes, one of the hardest things to do is to just start something. Many times God will stir up a vision inside of us, but when we sit down and think about how impossible it seems, we never begin.
Why is it God presents us with tasks that are beyond what we can accomplish on our own? And how can we find the strength to take the first steps, even when it seems impossible?

Matthew 27:11-22
Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
“You have said so,” Jesus replied.
12 When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer. 13 Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?” 14 But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.
15 Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd. 16 At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas. 17 So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?” 18 For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.
19 While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.”
20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.
21 “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor.
“Barabbas,” they answered.
22 “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked.
They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”
25 All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”
26 Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
27 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.
