This message shows how deeply Christ’s ministries of deliverance and healing were—and still are—interwoven. Through God’s Word, prayer, and the Communion sacrament, Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, provides both deliverance and healing.
This section records how Jesus and his ministry received "contempt" in his own hometown, and we talk about what it means to be on both the receiving and giving end of contempt, when God is speaking to us through a familiar vessel.
Gabe McGinness, our Student Ministries Director, shares a message covering Psalm 23, a beloved psalm attributed to King David. This leads in to our Vacation Bible School theme for this year. Through this message, we reflect on the promises of this psalm.
In 1979, Bob Dylan released a song by this title which (through its lyrics) describes this human reality: You (and I) were created to serve and worship and "it can be the devil or it can be the Lord, but you've got to serve somebody." In this passage, we will see how Satan attempted to get Jesus to serve (and worship) him, by getting Jesus to serve himself. Selfishness is Satanism. We look at how the devil tricks us into breaking God's first command. Then we will respond by intentionally focusing our worship away from ourselves and instead upon the Father, through the Son, by the Holy Spirit.
As we read through the geneaolgy of Christ, we recognize the faith of many ancestors and how God honored and continues to honor that faith in generations up to this very day.
In this section, the prophet John came preaching the Good News that "The Kingdom of Heaven is near!" It was good news because the King was coming in peace, with love, forgiveness, kindness, and incredible generosity. To prepare the people to receive such generosity, John brought a severe message against greed.
Through this message we notice the patience of the Lord to wait until the right time for his public ministry and how the season began when "God brought the Word" to John the Baptist. We will relate this to our life and times and ask God to give us the ability to perceive our times through the gift of the Holy Spirit.
As we read through the narrative that describes the time right after Christ's birth and an event in his early childhood, we pay special attention to when Jesus and other faith-filled people around him were "moved by the Spirit."
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God and is how we experience God and the Salvation He has brought us through the Cross. So this message is heavy on real-time relevance for those who have a great desire for, or needs, from God.
Jesus always focused attention away from himself and to the Father; the Holy Spirit always focuses attention away from himself and to Jesus; and we, likewise, will take focus off of ourselves and pay special attention to the Holy Spirit. HE will be the focus of both our teaching and worship!
Pastor Bryan senses Our Father in Heaven, who oversees every aspect of our existence, is concerned that we are speaking and acting from a place of ignorance concerning his love, commitment, and plans for each of us. When we speak, act, and make decisions from this place of ignorance we can make life-threatening mistakes (sins), affecting us and those closest to us. So, may He work powerfully and quickly through this message to eradicate this ignorance and give us an opportunity to respond and be filled with this Knowledge, which is His Spirit.
Pastor Bobby Gore highlights the important role of John in "preparing the way" for Christ by showing how John not only fulfills prophecy in this prophectic role, but is also a crucial minister to prepare Israel's heart for the Messiah.
We focus on the person of Christ and what He Alone has achieved for us. Through the Scriptures, we go back to Bethlehem and the time of His birth. We will marvel at how the Father first chose to reveal His Son to lowly, despised shepherds and how he continues to bring great favor to those who receive the least in this World.
We continue in our series from Luke with a theme of "mercy" that brings great joy to those of us who are suffering or concerned about someone else in our lives who is.
As we learn the history of Christ's divine, miraculous conception and how Mary received this gift through faith, we also marvel at how that has set in motion grace through faith in her Son and the saving words He continues to send our way...
Pastor Bobby explains that the importance of the beginning of the Gospel of John, highlighting how it uniquely focuses on who Jesus is—presenting Him as fully God, eternal, Creator, and the central figure of Salvation. Jesus Christ is not merely a moral teacher or prophet but God in the flesh, whose identity is foundational to Christian belief and cannot be reduced without losing the core of the Gospel. Ultimately, it calls listeners to respond personally by choosing whether to accept Jesus as God and Savior.
This message will very much be good news for those of us who wonder why God sometimes allows suffering, and even deprivation, in the lives of his faithful followers. We read and teach through Luke 1:1-25 about Zechariah, Elizabeth and their son John ("the Baptist"). We learn the history, connect the dots with prophecy, pull out some great symbolism, and parallel how God often works in the lives of those with great purpose.
As we celebrate our new home at Opal Road, this message focuses on the three themes of "Dedication, Consecration, and Anticipation." First, we reflect on when the Temple was first dedicated by Solomon and allow that to inform our approach to our own prayer of dedication. Then, we will turn to 1 Peter and see how he described our consecration (surrendered and set apart) as God's holy people. Lastly, we turn to Acts where Jesus instructed his newly consecrated disciples to wait and anticipate the coming of the Holy Spirit when he said, "You will be clothed with fire from on high to be my witnesses..."
This message is the finale of our Babylon: In It, Not of It sermon series in Daniel. Daniel, in one chapter, summarizes what John prophesied in 22 chapters in the Book of Revelation. We learn about the struggle that those who remain faithful to God through faith in Christ will face right up to the end...and then how incredible it will immediately (and eternally) be the moment Jesus enters the scene.
We read and interpret the incredible detailed prophesy from Daniel about the Persian, Greek and Roman Empires—all guaranteed to rise and doomed to fall. We also reflect on the brevity and futility of riches, power and endeavors that are not from Christ and ultimately for the Glory of His Father. May God use this message to convict and convince us to seek first His Kingdom and His purposes for our lives.
Dr. Crouterfield looks at the Parable of the Talents to illustrate 5 truths about stewardship. Through these truths we examine our own hearts, in relation to God's desires for us and recognize that authentic faith leads to good stewardship with produces fruitfulness.
Daniel 10 tells the story of Daniel's encounter with God through his Angel and God's mighty Word. The emphasis in this message is how awesome and haunting this encounter was. We contrast that with the much more gentle encounters (through the Blood of Christ) that we have with God, by the Holy Spirit, and how that has conditioned us to reject revelation that comes in more bold and fearful forms.
Thanh Buswell, our Women's Ministry Director, recently experienced a life-threatening illness when her liver began to fail. She and her husband Randy drew near to God during this difficult time and were rewarded with incredible revelations about His goodness, sufficiency, power, and how God uses suffering to deepen our faith and bring us even closer to Him.
This message shows us the importance and power of intercessory prayer and how God does not only answer such prayers, He is honored by them and honors us with revelation that exceeds our expectations. We learn from Daniel’s example of powerful prayer, we will gain knowledge of history, and we gain increased insight on what and even when to expect Christ to return…
This chapter gives more detail on the prophecies concerning the coming Medo-Persian and Greek Empires. When we see the detail and find that it was completely fulfilled hundreds of years later, it provides needed confidence in the aspects of Daniel's (and the Apostle John's) prophetic revelations. We can build our life on truth, even when it is hard to hear. And through the leadership of the Holy Spirit, we can be prepared to stand strong in Christ, regardless of what the future holds.
Join us as we explore where we exist in the timeline of history. God is revealing to Pastor Bryan where we are in time and how to live, survive and even thrive in such a time as this. In Revelation, Jesus provides a promise of blessing for those who take that prophecy to heart and allow it to affect their life and lifestyle. Since this prophecy in Daniel is another, less detailed, prophecy on the same events, I believe this blessing will be ours, as well. It is time for the church to move in harmony with the soon and climactic coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, hence the title, "All In at the End."
Following this week's closing on the purchase of property, Pastor Bryan shares some of the major details around the purchase of the property, including our next steps and a timeline for beginning worship in our new space. Importantly, he tells how difficult it became to get the deal closed in the last days and up to the last moment. The message behind these difficulties? God is still at work in and through us as we take these next steps. And there is still much to believe, to do, to prepare for, to learn, and experience in this season of our existence. The message from Zechariah 4) both challenges and inspires us to engage in this moment of our Mission and Ministry together.
In this passage, Jesus speaks directly to his disciples during the Last Supper and through the Holy Spirit, to his disciples today. We talk about why Jesus is worth following and his divinity/deity as the second member of the Trinity.
We continue to look at the history of Daniel's time, so we can understand the prophecy, which begins in the very next chapter, and we also receive application from the message as it is applied to us by the Holy Spirit. Pastor Bryan senses the Lord continuing to reinforce His message to us, which is: "In 2026, He will remove obstruction and obstructors (spiritual and human) and set free the obstructed (faithful) to move forward to do the Will of God."
We explore the historical context of this section and the prophetic significance, and also show how this passage illustrates the simple, power-filled way God (by his Holy Spirit) can cause massive obstacles to His Will to vanish instantly. There are so many ways to apply this to our own journey with Him...
Discover what the prophets foretold about the birth of Christ over 700 years before the day God fulfilled His Word, and the incredible implications of this miracle (and power) that exists for us today.
This Psalm rejoices in God's faithfulness to not just restore us, but to redeem us out of difficult times, even if it was because of our own sin. We will reflect with gratitude on the great things He has done...and begin to imagine the great things we perceive He will soon do!
A personal, intimate relationship with Christ will bring us into a sincere, interpersonal relationship with the Body of Christ. This message is an invitation into the family of God and a call to engage with a fresh, new and focused heart, recognizing that simply being in proximity to God’s family is not enough; your own personal righteousness matters. As we humbly seek God with sincere hearts and submit to his leadership as the Lord of All, we will receive the wisdom and guidance required for our next right step and the power, through the Holy Spirit, to obey.
Using the framework, A.R.T. (Alienation, Restoration, Transformation) to show us how the sin of unforgiveness keeps us alienated to God and others, we highlight the behavioral markers that help us to recognize when we have unforgiveness and wickedness in our hearts and what God's word instructs us to do about it. We are encouraged us to seek repentance and restoration.
The Lord Jesus Christ is sovereign over all—we will learn about, reflect upon, rest in and worship with our Lord's sovereignty on the front of our mind. In such uncertain times, this certain truth (and the implications of this certain truth), can bring peace, joy and gratitude that surpasses understanding...
In this passage, we see King Nebuchadnezzar’s actions in response to Daniel’s perfect interpretation of his dream of the statue. The King’s response to build a self-glorifying golden statue and demand its worship and the people’s response to this command reveals mankind’s tendency for vain glory, apart from the Holy Spirit. In this desire for ‘glory,’ Satan exploits an individual’s insecurities, weakness, and emptiness to incite them to ungodly, Satanic behavior.
In contrast, Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego give us an example of courageous faith in the midst of great persecution. Their ‘perfect moment’ refusing to worship any other god teaches us how to stand firm in what we believe— with courage, integrity, and respect.
We continue in the "Babylon" Series from Daniel (2:25-49) with part 2 of the message titled "God Speaks Through Dreams", asking the Holy Spirit to help us understand the interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar's dream and apply it to our times. May it create in us a desire and ability to leverage our lives for Him, His Passion, His Glory and His Coming with joy and urgency!
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus called us, his disciples, to be “salt” and “light” in the world to preserve a rotting, dead culture and through our lives shine His light into utterly dark, corrupt places (Matthew 5:13-16). Similarly, Daniel and the Israelites were carried off into exile to do the same in the Babylonian culture. How did Daniel do it so effectively? And how do we?
God sovereignly presented a crisis situation through Nebuchadnezzar’s dream that He would ultimately use to create a platform for Daniel and open the King of Babylon’s eyes to His power and authority alone. Daniel’s intimate relationship with God and the trust and faith he had in God to speak personally and powerfully to him to deliver him and his friends from certain death was the key to his success—and it is the key to ours today.
Daniel was an exceptional young man—intelligent, wise and spiritually attuned to the will and ways of God. He was an asset to the King of Babylon, who sought to use him for the purposes of his kingdom. However, Daniel did not waver in his faith and remained steadfast in his convictions to not follow the Babylonian ways, choosing not to eat the ‘royal food.’ He knew what was at stake. Daniel had integrity and great courage (even shrewdness), and God was faithful to honor Daniel’s loyalty.
There is no compartmentalization for those who are in Christ, though we may often live like there is. This message challenges us with the question: Is He truly “Lord of All” in my life? And do I live like He is?
In this introduction to the sermon series, "Babylon: In It, Not of It," Pastor Bryan provides the historical context of the Babylon, drawing parallels to the "Babylon" we exist in today. We also discuss the importance of deeply studying God's Word and the significance of studying prophecy to give us the perspective needed to live faithfully and powerfully for God (in the world, yet not of it) as citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven.
This passage urges all of us to allow the "old self" to die in Christ's death, and the "new self" to rise in His resurrection. The language of "putting this on" reminds us that this is a gift given and embraced rather than something earned through effort or merit. Putting on the new self is the same as saying surrender to and be clothed by the Holy Spirit.
Pastor Bobby Gore shares a special message centered on biblical angels and how you can play a part in being a messenger. Regardless of where you are in your journey as a believer in Christ, you have a role to play. This message will challenge you to delve into Scripture and, hopefully, prompt you to move beyond familiarity, leading you to a deeper fascination with the Word of God.
Pastor Bryan senses that the Holy Spirit wants to bring a blessing to our church (and every member of it) from our Father and through Jesus' teaching of the "Beatitudes" in Matthew 5:1-12. The message and the entire service revolves around the title and theme of "The Blessing".
In this section, Jesus continues his prayer for his disciples, including you and I. He prays for our renewal, transformation and eventual glorification in His Kingdom. The theme will continue to be "surrendering" to His love and all the wonderful plans He has for us - beginning now and ending never.
Pastor Bryan personally felt a sense of God reminding him, rather strongly, that this world and everyone and everything in it will soon pass away; but those who are in the Kingdom will live with Him and all those who receive His love forever. He was reminding me to leverage the things of the World for that Mission and not for lesser things. In response, this is the first of two messages titled, "Leaving this World" as a prelude to our next series in Daniel titled, "Babylon: In It Yet Not Of It".
With our final message about "Unity", we will read between the lines and ask the Holy Spirit to grant us wisdom and strength as Paul exhorts support, generosity, humility and unity among the people in our church.
Recognize the marks of a disciple who abides in Christ and be challenged to examine and strengthen our own spiritual walk so we may experience the fullness of Christ.
This message is all about “Confidence”. A major aspect of “Staying Strong in the Spirit” is not just having confidence but knowing what to have confidence in…. As we shift away from self-confidence and toward confidence in God - His Power, His Holiness, His Devotion to us, His Words, and His Plans we can become supremely strong to take our stand (together) against the schemes of Satan.
Among many incredible points to be revealed in this passage, is the counterintuitive truth that humility is actually (in the Kingdom of Heaven) the most certain path to power. Jesus humbled himself, became a servant, and then the Father lifted Him up and gave Him the Name above every other name... We are encouraged to learn from His example and experience a lesser (yet incredibly powerful and real) promotion ourselves. May the application of these truths bring breakthroughs to many of us in our relationships and other life circumstances.
Pastor Bryan kicks off a new teaching series, 'Philippians: Staying Strong in the Spirit' with the first of four amazing characteristics given to us as gifts of the Holy Spirit, "Courage" (Chapter 1).
Landon shows how Jesus worshipped in his life and how we can use His example as a model for how we worship.
How are you trusting God in a real way these days, with no backup plan? Joseph's testimony draws parallels from the story of Gideon to his spiritual journey of faith, encouraging us to 'trust God without the big army.'
"Vengeance is mine!" says the Lord, but He does "prepare a table of vindication" for those who faithfully follow Him. This week's message comes from 1 Samuel 30, where we learn from King David's story, how to handle it when God keeps his promise and vindicates us from past injustice.
Gabe McGinness, our Student Ministries Director, shares a message covering the Coming of the Kingdom of Heaven and the Parable of the Persistent Widow. May this message encourage us to remain faithfully obedient, at peace, and focused on the Mission; and may it remind us to continually pray without ceasing (in constant relations with Him), understanding and believing with true faith that the nature of God is unchanging - He is always good and the source of love.
We focus on the power of faith (in God and his Word). The insight gained from this simple passage has the potential to bring great breakthroughs for those of us who "hear" it....
Pastor Bobby Gore leads us through the events leading up to Jesus being recognized as the prophesied and long-awaited messianic King. The main Scripture revolves around the events of Palm Sunday, but additional scriptures in the Old Testament are tied in, connecting as well as demonstrating the same theme with wildly different results upon His second coming found in Revelation. Oddly enough there will be relevancy found in the type of animal Jesus arrives on in each of His arrivals that highlight His intention.
This message will speak directly to the array of things that are challenging many of us. If these words were powerful and effective for the original audience (who were not experiencing the indwelling of the Holy Spirit), how much more powerful for us who have Him amplfying from inside?
Through this message, I am asking the Holy Spirit to help us understand how to effectively pray and experience all of the power the Bible promises when we do. This message closes with an opportunity to come to the altar and seek God's power for our needs.
This teaching from John 4 (The Samaritan Woman) has an emphasis on the unpredictable leadership of Jesus. We believe God will use this message to breathe fresh life into our Body and giving us a jolt that will launch the next season of our mission together.
In Part 2 of "Be Strong and Courageous!" Pastor Bryan shares more details about our exciting move and what lies ahead for Monterey Church and every member of it. It's a time to praise and thank God for what He has done—and it is a time to continue to press on, seeking His wisdom and the courage to respond faithfully, beginning with praying for our new community and asking for the power to remain steadfast to The Mission!
This is the first of a two-week message that Pastor Bryan believes the Holy Spirit will use to get us ready for some very great days just ahead! The message from Joshua 1 is, "Be Strong and Courageous!" and will encourage us (literally pour courage in us) through God's words, promises, and clear vision for our future together (as the church with every member of it).
Pastor Bryan preaches from one his favorite passages of Scripture, Isaiah 55, a chapter titled, "Invitation to the Thirsty." In this section, God speaks first person to Israel (and through Israel, to us) with an invitation to bring their (our) needs to Him and then an illustration of how He sends His Word to save.
Pastor Bobby Gore will also share a short devotional teaching from Psalm 115 titled, "Content Over Complacent," that encourages us to give God the Glory for all of His blessings and reminds us that contentment is vastly different than complacency.
Pastor Bryan preaches the final message of the Corinthians Are U.S. series. The theme is "joy-filled anticipation" as we will focus on the last few verses predicting peace, joy and a glorious future for the Corinthians (and for U.S.)!
There is great power in these Words for those of us who have become embittered, hurt, or offended with in the Body of Christ and need healing so we can begin to grow again in our relationship with Christ through His Body. Like, perhaps, we did when we were newer to the faith.
We Celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus (and through Him the eventual resurrection of you and I) through the teaching of Luke 24 about the "Resurrection" of Jesus
We continue in our Corinthians series with a message from chapter 11 titled "A Jealous God". The chapter seems to be all about the pain, difficulty and betrayals in Paul's relationship with the Corinthian Church, but a deeper look shows that actually that is simply mirroring the Church's relationship with Christ. We will talk about God's jealousy for his Bride (the church) and how it manifests in our relationship with him and each other in the Body of Christ.
Pastor Bryan preached through Matthew 25:31-45 to show us what Jesus really meant when he said, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ If Jesus were to come today, what would he say about what we have done for the "least of these brothers of mine"?
May this message give us deeper understanding and conviction for what it is to be faithful to Jesus' Great Commission as his disciples. And may we be encouraged by the incredible promises to our Church (and every member of it) as we faithfully serve him in supporting the work of the Gospel.
Psalm 51 is a lament psalm by King David after his transgressions with Bathsheba, where he vulnerably admits his own faults, prays for his own situation, and then prays for his nation. May we find that true satisfaction comes when we return back to God just as we are with a contrite heart.
Dr. Bruce Crouterfield, Commander, U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps (Retired), brings us an encouraging message exploring what it means to live a life that is truly fulfilling.
This message is very much about the power of God's Word, the nature of it's landing upon fallen flesh, and the incredible opportunities and dangers associated with the ministry of these Words. Come prepared to be "provoked into righteousness".
We continue in 2nd Corinthians (chapter 9) with part 2 of "The Grace of Giving". Chapter 9 unveils the spiritual reality (what really takes place) when we give in alignment to the will of God. The passage provides direct, clear and powerful information showing that "giving" is really "investing" into the Kingdom of Heaven; making it the wisest, safest, most permanent and beneficial thing any of us can do with the wealth God has (temporarily) given us. The grace of giving can be received simply through faith in these very clear Words from God.
No words better describe the good news of the Gospel than giving or gift. The verse from John 3, "For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son...", pretty much defines grace.
When that grace comes to us and works through us, it gives us the power to be incredibly generous, as well. But it doesn't end there, chapter 8 is the preamble to chapter 9, where we find that because of Jesus we actually never give anything away! Our gifts are investments in His Kingdom that pay huge dividends, in every form, both now on earth and eternally in the Kingdom of Heaven.
We often think about and lament the consequences of sin, disobedience and the rejection of Christ, his Word, and his servants, but in this message we will think about and celebrate the power and salvation experienced through obedience and agreement with Christ, his Word, and his servants.
Pastor Bryan preaches from Psalm 32 to show us how God brings Amazing Grace into our lives through the power of confession and through this, we can rejoice just as David did in the psalm.
In 2 Cor. 6, Paul implores the church to not take their Salvation for granted, to fully receive the message He is sending through Paul, and to take steps to set themselves apart entirely for the Lord. May the Holy Spirit use this message to get us unified (with Him and each other), set apart (consecrated), and anticipating His divine action to bless and use our Church in extraordinary ways...not just soon, but "Now."
As we dive into the passage (2 Corinthians 5:11-21), we will discover the essence of the Gospel ministry (reconciliation with God and then each other) and how that puts "The Meaning" back into our lives (good, loving relationships with God and each other). If this is indeed the meaning of life, how will you leverage your life for the sake of the Gospel?
Our Student Ministries Director, Gabe McGinness, encourages us through a devotional teaching of Psalm 139, reminding us that the Lord knows us deeply and personally and Calen and the worship team will lead us through an extended time of worship and praise. We will cover a few key moments from King David’s relationships & how, through faith, we can be men and women after God’s own heart, just as David was.
A special message on the eve of the Presidential Inauguration. Pastor Bryan teaches from from Psalm 72, David's prayer for his son, Solomon, and the government he would lead over all of Israel. From this prayer, we gain wisdom and understanding that will fuel our prayers for the new President and his Administration that begins this week.
Do you believe what the Bible says about eternity and the greater glory that exists for the Christian? This message challenges us to walk by faith (with an eternal perspective) and leverage our lives for Kingdom of Heaven, even if that means delayed gratification.
A message about the nature of the ministry of God's Word in the era between the first and second coming of Christ. Specifically, it helps us discern who God has called and anointed for this work and what we should expect when this mission becomes our own.
What are the promises of God for his people and how do we abide in those words? An encouraging New Year's message from Psalm 23 that talks about the promise and how to truly let the Lord be our Shepherd to keep us protected and blessed as He has promised.
"Miraculous Conceptions" from Luke 1:26-38, talks about how to truly receive Jesus, "The Gift of Christmas," and simultaneously to truly give ourselves to Him. No more celebrating Christmas without truly experiencing the gift of from our Father, which is His Son, who imparts His Holy Spirit into our souls.
Are you alive, but sedated? Pastor Bryan expounds on the Apostle Paul's teaching on the superiority of the covenant and ministry in the era of the Holy Spirit and how to remain sensitive to the Holy Spirit—spiritually "Alive" to experience the greater Glory of the New Covenant!
Reconciliation and restoration in relationships with God and each other is "the gift of Christmas." In this passage, Paul addresses mercy that brings grace to our relationships, whether we are the victim or the offender (or both!).
Pastor Bobby takes us through Scripture to show connections between Jesus, Mountains and Trees highlighting key moments throughout Scripture that begin and end with God meeting people on mountains by trees, while comparing us to trees as He meets with people on top of mountains.
Pastor Bryan brings a message from 2 Corinthians 1:12-2:4 where he focuses on mercy, an under-emphasized and essential aspect of God's nature.
This Sunday we jumped back into the "Corinthians are U.S." sermon series with a message titled "Jesus Saves!". Pastor Bryan discussed how "eternal life begins now" and our salvation can be experienced physically, materially, relationally, etc. on earth even before it is fully experienced in heaven.
After a historic week in our country Pastor Bryan brings an encouraging word as we move out of election season and recorrect our focus on the main ministry of the church, the ministry of God's word. Now is the time to profit, just as it always has been.
"A Time to Pray" a special time of prayer, worship, and communion ahead of the 2024 election. Using the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) as an outline for our prayers on behalf of our Nation, all Nations, the Church, the Lost, and ourselves personally.
The Bible teaches that "Satan masquerades as an angel of light" and therefore can “deceive even the elect...” We will talk about how an unholy spirit can work through false prophets, false teachers, and false or confused followers of Christ to lead people (even God's people) astray and how this deception will increase until epitomized through the False Prophet discussed in Revelation 13.
What exactly does the prophesy mean when it uses the word "blasphemy" or "blasphemies"? Understanding the nature of these blasphemies helps us understand what really is going on all around us—an orchestrated effort to disgrace God through those who are created in His image.
"What in the world is really going on?" Pastor Bryan preaches through Revelation Chapter 13 to help us interpret the times through God's Word and gain understanding of what is happening in our world today—spiritually, socially, economically, politically, and even technologically.
How do we 'keep the faith' when circumstances overwhelm us? In "Press On," Gabe McGinness, Student Ministries Director, brings an encouraging message from the Book of Philippians talking about about life's ups, downs, and in-betweens—all of its different seasons that require us to press on with patience and intentionality.
Pastor Bryan closes out Part A of our Corinthians Are U.S series, teaching through the last chapter of 1 Corinthians (16:1-24) with a message titled, "Community." This personal closing from Paul to the Corinthians gives us some clues about the structure, leadership and general culture of the early Church; it also includes some great nuggets of truth that seem to be hiding in plain sight.
Elder Pastor Bobby Gore shares a devotional teaching on choosing what’s better rather than being bitter. The message comes from 2 Samuel 6:12-23 and is titled “Undignified." This passage of Scripture is where King David returns the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem and the encounter he had with his first wife.
Pastor Bryan preaches the climax of 1 Corinthians (15:35-58) this Sunday with a message titled, "Glorify God and Enjoy Him Forever!" Glory is the theme of the day as we worship, pray and seek God through the Scriptures.
This is our Gospel: Jesus Christ's birth, death, resurrection, and ascension, and the descension of the Holy Spirit—the gift to every born-again believer. What are the implications of this for the Christian? Christ has risen from the dead and we, too, will rise from the dead! Be encouraged by God's Word and the incredible reality that already spiritually, and even in our circumstances, we can experience this Resurrection power!
Pastor Bobby Gore, will shares a devotional titled "Turning Point" from the Gospel of Luke around the theme of gratitude. In this passage, Jesus healed ten men of leprosy. As we devote the day to gratitude in worship, we will see the story of an unlikely person coming back to give thanks, honor, and praise to the One who has blessed us all.
Pastor Bryan continues in our Corinthians Are U.S. series with a message titled, "Order = Power," which is about how God works powerfully through humble, orderly gatherings when His people assemble with faith that He will speak.
Student Ministries Director Gabe McGinness talks about how we can look at a systematic approach to following Jesus Christ and evangelism by discussing Jesus’ life, who Jesus was, who we are, and what Jesus wants us to do.
In this passage, Paul talks about the interrelated role of each spiritual gift when we come together to worship and seek God. We will talk about how Paul very much valued the gift of prophecy in these settings and also very much anticipated it and we will ask ourselves why we do not experience this more? This could get a little scary...
The title and theme of this message from 1 Corinthians 13 is "Love Wins!" —all about doing ministry with passion, commitment, and in an atmosphere of love.
In "You Complete Me" (1 Cor. 12:15-31), Pastor Bryan preaches about the unity and interdependence that exists within the Body of Christ and the immense potential for glory when the Jesus Body flows with harmony in the Spirit.
Pastor Bobby Gore teaches from the Gospel of Luke, the Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Luke 18:9-14). The heart of the message is about prayer, humility, and the disposition we have toward others and the heart we pray from.
Pastor Bryan leads us through a special time of worship and prayer for our Nation in the midst of recent current events.
In the message this week "Give a Little Bit", Pastor Bryan discusses how important it is to worship the Father in both spirit and truth. In response we should be humbling ourselves; bowing down before the Lord and hearing His still silent voice.
The teaching this week if from 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 and the message is titled "A Highly Charged Environment". We often think, when we gather as Church, that the Holy Spirit and blessed things from God are a certainty. Yet, Paul (in this section) shows quite the opposite can be true. Strife, division, factions, favoritism and other worldly attitudes do not invite God, but instead can usher in the Evil One. Let's come together under this teaching to assure in our Body that "when two or more are gathered in His name He is there also" every time...
This passage (1 Cor. 11:1-16) is about women covering their heads in worship seems, at first, absurd and irrelevant. But when we look at it through the lens of Creation and dig deeper through the insight of the Holy Spirit, we find an amazing passage that helps us understand, honor, and marvel at what it means to be a "Woman"!
Gabe McGinness, our Students Ministries Director, shares his testimony and takes us back to the basics by discussing the grand perspective of the Bible using Answers in Genesis' 7 C's of History, a phrase that helps people to remember the big events that have affected (or will affect) the universe.
Learn what it means to enter into God's rest by grace which comes through faith in His message(s) sent to each of us. Pastor Bryan preaches through Hebrews 4:1-13 and provides an opportunity for immediate response to God's Word. This is a time to rest in His presence and consider a life where we simply hear God, obey God, and enjoy the peace and rest that is promised for those who do.
Pastor Bryan preaches part 13 of our Corinthians series with a message titled “Four Sins of Immediate Consequence.” In this passage (1 Cor. 10), Paul shows four things that caused folks to "fall" in the Old Covenant can also cause us to "fall" in the New Covenant, making it clear the Old Testament example was very much for the purpose as a warning for us.
Boldly addressing critical issues of the day, Pastor Bryan preaches from Psalm 94—a psalm about evil, corruption and injustice in Israel—as a guide to how we may 'cry out' to God about the evil, corruption, and injustice we are experiencing in our nation (and in the world).
Pastor Bryan preaches from 1 Corinthians 9:18-27. May God use this passage and message to help us discern just how free we really are in Christ and then prompt us to ask for even more freedom than what we are currently experiencing!
Pastor Bryan preaches from 1 Corinthians 9 (verses 1-18), which is all about Paul's right as an Apostle and Preacher (and the right of all ministers committed to serving the Body of Christ) to make a living from the offerings made by the members of that Body. It really isn't a passage about money as much as it is about honor, trust and how well we value the Body of Christ and the ministry of His Word.
How do we live our lives with freedom and confidence in our relationship with Jesus despite swimming in a sea of idolatry every single time we leave our homes (or even in our homes)? In Sunday's message, “Idols in Culture”, Pastor Bryan preaches from 1 Corinthians 8, drawing parallels in this passage that deals with "food sacrificed to idols" with certain idols in culture that we encounter constantly in our everyday lives.
Pastor Bryan preaches part 2 of “Sex and Marriage” in our Corinthians Are U.S. sermon series. Paul leads his congregation (U.S.) through his biblical view and approach to handling attraction, love, marriage, and sex in a godly way. May God impart grace into all of our lives through faith in these words, which really are not Paul's...they are God's.
Pastor Bobby Gore brings a special message titled “Defense and Spiritual Warfare” from 1 Peter 3. It contains a key verse for apologists, those who publicly defend the faith showing that we have a reasonable faith and it ends with Peter using a culturally popular story that sounds bizarre to the modern reader, but has a theological payoff that directly ties into Baptism.
In "Sex and Marriage," Pastor Bryan preaches from 1 Corinthians 7:1-16, the first of a two-part message from this chapter as Paul speaks directly and matter-of-factly about these interrelated subjects. May we gain spiritual wisdom and guidance to apply His Word to our circumstances in these areas.
"He Has Risen!" A special Resurrection Day message from Luke 24. We will not just remember and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, we will also reflect on the reality that we have already risen from the dead with him (in spirit) and will "soon and very soon" rise with him in glorified bodies to exist forever in perfection… Salvation now on earth and forever in the Kingdom of Heaven.
On Good Friday, Pastor Bryan preaches from a favorite passage Matthew 26 (Gethsemane) in a message titled "Perfected". An invitation to reflect and 'be still' for a time of solemn worship, preaching and Communion.
Pastor Bryan preaches through 1 Corinthians 6 as the Apostle Paul continues his severe letter to the Corinthian church. As we reflect on Palm Sunday when Jesus entered Jerusalem near the time of the Cross, the people broke out in worship of Him as the anticipated Messiah. Unfortunately, though they praised Him with their lips, their hearts (and lives) were far from Him. Through this Word, we consider what it really means to worship Christ as Messiah through our lives and lifestyles.
This Sunday, we celebrated 10 years together as a church, briefly reflecting on our church's history and the years spent in our building affectionately known as "The Shack" (formerly Ted's Tack Shack in Warrenton). In this week's message, Pastor Bryan breaks down 1 Corinthians 5, Paul's pointed and immediate response to the “Sexual Immorality, and Other Deadly Sins, Within the Body of Christ" in Corinth.
Pastor Bryan preaches through 1 Corinthians chapter 4. This passage is Paul's highly corrective teaching to a church that had become so worldly that worldly tactics had made their way into the Body of Christ and needed to be corrected in order to keep the Church under the covering, blessing, protection, and potency of God.
Pastor Bryan shares a special message titled, “Soon and Very Soon" that stands alone as a marker for Monterey Church as we move forward. The message is Jesus saying to us: "I am coming soon and very soon. Though we cannot predict the exact day or time, we CAN and MUST anticipate when fulfilled prophecies make it imminent, as in immediate." What should our response be?
In this special Communion service, Pastor Bobby teaches from Psalm 51, a psalm of lament by King David after his transgressions with Bathsheba. As we read, study, and meditate on this Psalm, coming into God's presence with contrition, may He bring bring his powerful, intense, loving, and healing touch.
Pastor Bryan preaches from 1 Corinthians chapter 3. The apostle Paul works to shift the focus in this week's passages away from the teacher to Christ, and away from the teacher to the integrity of the teaching. And why? Because we are all God's temple, being built (and rebuilt) into His glorious image through the ministry of truth that renews the mind, transforms the heart, and makes us into (by ourselves and together) the people in whom His Presence intensely resides.
What is the role of the Holy Spirit in revealing God, His Word, His Will, His Character, and His Love to us? This section focuses on God's wisdom revealed by His Spirit. Once we receive these revelations, we also have the clarity, courage and power that go with them.
Paul expounds on the absurdity of the Gospel to the "wise" and the power of it for the "foolish." We will talk a lot about the irony of something that must be received with such humility having the power to lift us up into Heaven, even now on Earth before the full coming of His Kingdom.
Pastor Bryan begins a new sermon series titled, “Corinthians Are U.S.” teaching and preaching through 1st and 2nd Corinthians and emphasizing between ancient Corinthians and modern Americans. In this first message, "He Is ALL We Need", we learn about why Paul wrote this letter the church in Corinth and how it is relevant to us today. We are reminded of God's goodness, His faithfulness, and His commitment to the Church.

Pastor Bryan preaches the final message of our discipleship series, “The Monterey Way: Under the Covering, Protection and Blessing of God.” We will close with a time of prayer, reflection and Communion.
What are spiritual gifts and how are they used in the Body of Christ? Pastor Bryan preaches from 1 Corinthians 12, expounding upon Paul's teaching on Spiritual Gifts and how God through the Holy Spirit imparts so many gifts (wisdom, power, knowledge, healing, provision, and so much more) into the Church for the wellness of the Body and every member of it.
A special Christmas Eve message from Isaiah 9:1-7. This is a prophesy foretelling the birth of Christ over 700 years before the day! The passage expands our understanding of the magnificence of his coming, which was so understated through the scene in Bethlehem, and leads us to an opportunity to receive Christ as the GIFT this Christmas season.
Note: We will be receiving Communion at the end of the message. If you are joining us from home, please have bread and water (or wine/juice) available for everyone who will be participating with you.

In the "The Priesthood," Pastor Bryan preaches from 1 Peter 2:9 and other key passages to demonstrate that our Father's purpose for all of us, who have been reconciled to Him through the blood of His Son, is to represent Him before to this World (as Ambassadors) and to lead people (with great authority) into a reconciled, right relationship with Him (as Priests).
As disciples (disciplined followers of Christ), when we begin to consistently and intentionally seek the Word of God through the Spirit of God for the Will of God, then we will find it and be given the power and authority that comes with it. With God's authority also comes God's enemies, and we will also need supernatural protection to go with this authority. This week's message titled “Armor” will talk about how we can walk in this protection and take the battle to the devil rather than having him always put us on the defensive.
In part 3 of our discipleship series, Pastor Bryan defines and clarifies what it means to be a disciple, what is discipleship, and what are spiritual disciplines. Not only will we define these things, we will be informed through the words of Jesus in John 3 and John 15 as to how we can be disciples (a born-again gift) and why (power and authority from on high).
A special Sunday service for worship and reflection, Pastor Bobby Gore brings a devotional message around the theme of gratitude titled, “Bold Thanks” based on Psalm 138. David preemptively thanks God for vindicating him before he is rescued from a dire situation. This message will embolden and encourage us no matter what troubles we are currently facing.
Pastor Bryan preaches the second foundational message in our discipleship series titled, “What We Believe." In this message, he breaks down what it means to believe, and what and who we are to believe in. Time will be spent discussing the Spirit of God and the Word of God—the sixty-six books of the Bible we consider the Canon and how the Canon was discerned and bound together by the Early Church Fathers. We will also cover the essential truths about Christ and His Church found in The Nicene Creed.
Pastor Bryan teaches the first message of "The Monterey Way", a sermon series focused on discipleship and leadership in the Body of Christ, specifically our local body, Monterey Church. In Part 1, we learn about how the "Mountain" and the "Tree" gives us the perfect illustration of biblical order in the the church, where a church rooted in the foundation of God's truth (His word), love (humility), and power (His authority) is a thriving tree empowered to go and fulfill the Great Commission.

Thanh talks about the spiritual journey of every believer and shares the markers of her own (and all the loops and zig-zags in between), reminding us of God's unfailing love and his purpose and high calling for us.
Will we allow culture to influence the Kingdom of God? Or will we be prepared to change the culture with Kingdom principles? Pastor Bobby Gore preaches the final message (2 Timothy 4) of our “Dear Timothy…” series with a message to live Kingdom down rather than culture up.
In "Terrible Times", Pastor Bryan preaches through 2 Timothy 3, a passage where Paul discusses the hostile atmosphere that will war with Timothy (and us) as he (and we) goes out in 'strength' to be 'loyal' to God, His Gospel, and all of His Word. Paul exhorts Timothy to remain loyal to the "higher wisdom of God's Word" because it is embedded with the Holy Spirit and is the ultimate tool for ministry.
This week's message is titled "Keeping The Faith" (2 Timothy 2) and will glean from Paul's words to Timothy the importance of staying true to solid Biblical, Gospel teaching and how to recognize and deal with false teaching when it arises in the Church. Pastor Bryan addresses the importance of truthful teaching in keeping God's people from becoming discouraged and losing their faith.
Pastor Bryan preaches through the Book of Second Timothy, a pastoral letter from the apostle Paul to the pastor-teacher Timothy. It is a letter written to encourage (pour courage into) this proven Christian leader and to strengthen, mature, and refine him for the days ahead. May God use this very personal, passionate letter to provide for us what it most certainly did for Timothy.
Pastor Bryan brings a special message from Isaiah 58 for the answer, "Who is God willing to make strong?" Better than praying and asking God to intervene for us in difficult circumstances and to bring us through, is to ask for God to make us strong so that regardless of the circumstances we experience, we have his power to overcome them every time.
Pastor Bryan shares a prophetic message to the American Church from Isaiah 8. Though this prophecy from was for God's people at that time, it does foreshadow the coming of Messiah and he boldly declares that God is going to use it to illustrate timeless truths about Him and to speak from it directly to the Body of Christ about what is ahead for the American Church and the Nation/World we exist in.
Pastor Bryan preaches the final passages of the Romans series. His power and authority that could have (and should have) been leveled against us, is now working to bless and protect us instead.
Pastor Bryan preaches from Romans 14 discussing the freedom we have in Christ and how wisdom guides this freedom, setting us free to walk without condemnation and to not give into every inclination of the flesh. Far too often those in political leadership rule unlawfully (and occasionally even are illegitimately placed in authority), which causes us to ask, "What should we do with this passage and God's command to obey them?" Pastor Bryan teaches from Romans 4:1-15 where Paul continues to expound on a righteousness that comes by faith rather than through the Law. It has always really been this way, as far back as Abraham and even as far back as Adam and Eve. To the degree we maintain faith in God and His Word, we maintain a lifegiving relationship with Him. To the degree we doubt Him and His Word(s), we lose the security and blessedness of this love-filled and life-filled relationship. Just like human relationships—it is all about trust.

Pastor Bryan preaches through Matthew 22:15-46, where the Pharisees and the Sadducees go on the offensive (with the first three questions) and try to trap Jesus in his words through his responses. When Jesus ends the questioning with his own (the fourth question), these leaders realize they will never win in a face-to-face confrontation with Christ.
Come hear how the subtle yet powerful message within these passages show how to lose an argument with God (and those he sends in our life to tell the truth) and, yet actually win if we can accept the so-called "defeat".
