Cat Scanlan has an incredible story of what inspired her to quit her full time job, travel the world and begin working remotely. She started "Mountain Cat Media" in 2019 out of Summit County and has been doing social media, web design and marketing consulting for the past year now. It was awesome to talk with Cat about how to grow in the social media world and create a design that is both effective and aesthetic. Cat and I had a great conversation about how she maintains a voice in delivering other peoples work for them as a consultant. After this we get into all the details of what it's like to work remotely and how she stays motivated. Like many of the past episodes, Cat shares her personal experiences with setting time aside for herself to rest and play, which often fuels her greatest work. Joel Benson brings incredible experience to the table having traveled the world from a young age, consulted on agricultural businesses, been mayor of Buena Vista and then bringing those business skills to starting a coffee shop and wholesale roasting company. Joel and his wife, Laurie, worked together consulting on farms and other agricultural business on how to make smarter decisions using the Holistic Management model. The Holistic Management model was created to make the best decision for businesses socially, economically, and environmentally. When Joel and his wife started the Buena Vista Roastery, main street was boarded up and nowhere close to the hotspot it is now. In starting this business, Joel prioritized his personal values of community, experience and livelihood of his employees. It was so amazing to see how someone can run a business and be mayor while staying true to what is important to them. The balance of family, recreation and community brought Joel to waking up at 2am for a period of time and truly maximizing his productivity. This episode is full of great stories from a great mind. Listen to learn something!
Neat conversation with the owner of the Buena Vista Roastery Cafe, Annika Woolmington. This episode has great details about how to maintain a high quality on your product and why doing this is so important for a business like a cafe. For the Roastery, quality control is everything because it is often the single reason they have repeat customers. There are also some interesting points made on being the owner of a business yet still submerging yourself as part of the team. Annika talks about how being a part of the team helps her relax and stay grounded as the boss. This episode is great for those bossy people who always seem to be taking responsibility. Annika explains how she deals with that and how her personality has morphed because of it. Thanks for the support and as always, enjoy!
Sarah started selling custom stitched hats from a renovated 40 ft. school bus about 5 years ago, now she's overflowing with hat orders. She has built an amazing business with incredible meaning behind her work. Every single hat she makes is unique and represents something much larger than a hat. Sarah shares on how she is working with a purpose to empower others to be their own boss and live a life they care about. Her story is SO inspiring to me as an entrepreneur because of her perseverance and overall work ethic. We also talk about some of Sarah's daily routines and methods for staying grounded and mentally fit. It is always so amazing to hear from a fellow creative and bounce ideas off one other. This episode is definitely worth listening to and I hope you learn something and enjoy!

Super stoked on this episode! Had a great conversation with our friend Ed Barkowski who is the current owner of the BV Roastery (the location on Tabor Street that actually roasts and packages the coffee beans). Ed and I get into tons of Ed's past experiences like traveling, high school, and employment. This episodes uniqueness comes from Ed being super well spoken on how these experiences from his past have changed him for the better. Some of the most valuable takeaways from this episode come from Ed's insight on meditation and being a public figure in a community as well as his perspective on the relationship between location and income. Mary and Janel share on their experiences of opening The Blend in 2019. The Blend is a delicious spot for healthy smoothies and all types of bagels on Main Street in Buena Vista! This episode offers great details about the learning process of being brand new to business and how mentors have played a huge role for them. Janel also tells an incredible story of how the idea was manifested. We wrap it up with how Mary and Janel underestimated themselves and how making the jump to entrepreneurship really exposed that and pushed them to grow.
