A conversation with Ani Kessner, Mikaela Cadenhead, and Emmett Donovan

Episode four with Ani, Mikaela, and Emmett was recorded through Google Hangout/Meet because COVID-19 had closed all public schools in New York State. Their last day in school was March 17 and virtual learning started on March 18. These seniors couldn’t visit colleges as they had planned but they were pleased with their choices. Each spoke of how much time their teachers spent interacting with them largely to encourage them and keep up their spirits. Their outlook and maturity will serve them well.

A conversation with Alle Jobe and Molly Furman

Alle and Molly, my guests in episode 3, credit Hastings High School for preparing them for life. Their teachers have taught them that if you don’t fail, you won’t learn. While they have lived in Hastings all of their lives, they are not worried about leaving for college. Molly and Alle know that they will fulfill their goals in life because their teachers have positioned them to succeed.

In this episode, Alex Weitzman, Daniel Goldberg, and Felix Spruck share their perspectives about how teachers at Hastings High School have helped them to become inquisitive and curious. At the time of this recording, these three seniors were waiting to hear from the colleges that they applied to. They didn’t seem worried about not getting into their top choice because they knew that they would end up in the right place. These three young men reiterated how invested teachers were in their success and felt that teachers were on their side.
