You will discover the need to delegate tasks that hold you back and obstruct your ability to experience pleasure and achieve the flow state. The episode also provides valuable insights into societal structures that often result in unforeseen stress due to uneven task distribution, particularly within families and relationships.

The ultimate goal is to learn to consciously organize your life around activities and tasks that bring joy and keep you in the flow state. Matt estimates that he brought in an extra $100,000 into his business after he began using story strategically in his business. His whole premise is that people prefer doing business with people who they know, like, and trust. That trust starts with the willingness to be vulnerable and share your story. On today’s episode, I’m speaking with Allen Kares, Life Coach and Master Imagineer about how story has helped him in his business. Though Allen has been a coach for many years, it's only as he began to unearth his personal stories did he get the clarity and confidence to grow his business in a way that is alignment with who he is.

Unearthing Personal Gold
I’m more interested in the written word than politics, but ever since the turn of events south of the border that hurled the world on its head for many people, I’ve become a regular consumer of CNN and viewer of all the late night talk shows. At times, it seems as though this is all a waste of precious writing time, and of precious fallow time so necessary for the creative writer. On the other hand, I feel as though these new habits of consuming political content has made me even more determined to seek out quality literature that feeds my mind and my soul. So, although I have always favoured reading The New Yorker and Harper’s, I’m doing that even more these days. I feel compelled to do this so as to restore balance to my personal, mental ecosystem. When it feels as though the world has gone crazy, it’s even more imperative that we ground ourselves.
In this episode, I talk about the importance of reading writing that inspires you.
In today’s episode, I’m talking with Karalee Clerk, a woman you did all the conventional things in life, got married, had kids, and a career. Then divorced. And then she ran away from home to become a writer, and it’s because of that chutzpah that I just had to interview her, because who among us don’t secretly wish – at least some of the time – that we could just up stakes and run away with the circus, right?

On today's episode, I talk with entertainment lawyer David Lizerbram. He gives us the scoop on copyright for writers, what to be aware of when writing about living people, and other issues pertaining to creative output.

One of my sources for creative inspiration are the magazines, Harper's and The New Yorker. They inspire me to create but they also fill up my creativity tank. I get ideas for my writing but also see things in a new way. I see potential in the crazy connections I make in my head because I see how other writers follow down those leads and create wonderful, inspiring pieces out of them, and one of my favourite non-fiction writers is Rebecca Solnit.
Listen to the full episode now.
Apprenticeship –
I did an informal poll on Facebook asking what apprenticeship when it comes to being a writer meant to people. The answers were what I expected:
As you know, my weekly Wealth Wednesdays (my Facebook live sessions) are dedicated to exploring our money mindset as writers, and the springboard for these conversations is the book Real Artists Don’t Starve by Jeff Goins.
In Chapter 3, Jeff talks about this very topic. Apprenticeship and the role it plays in people who want to become thriving not starving artists.
In today's episode I explore the question of apprenticeships for writers - good or bad?
Today’s show kicks off a 12 part series about wealth, writing and the money mindset. Each week, I’ll be talking about Jeff Goins’ book Real Artists Don’t Starve.
These episodes go live in our Facebook group first, so if you want to interact in real time, join us in the Own Your Creativity community at bit.ly/oycgroup
In today's episode I talk about Father's Day, Zeus and Writing, and I also talk about the free writing challenge happening June 26 to July 1st. Registration deadline is June 23rd, so I invite you to sign up today at bit.ly/writejune.
Today I talk about what goes on behind the scenes in any creative writing practice, and I invite you to join me in The Writing Den, a 4-week facilitated session of live, online writing. To find out more, go to bit.ly/thewritingden

On today's episode, I talk to Sheila Horrell. She has been drumming for the last 30 years, ever since being introduced to the primal magic of the drum by master percussionist Ubaka Hill.
After studying percussion with various drummers here and internationally, she has been facilitating workshops and Drum Circles for many groups in Southwestern Ontario, including schools, universities, camps, nursing homes, conferences and agencies.
The experience of introducing new drummers to the ease and joy of music making with the drum has been a prime motivator for Sheila's continued success. There is nothing like witnessing someone relaxing into their own rhythm and having fun contributing to the music of the whole drumming community.
As well as facilitating drumming, Sheila is also a member of percussion groups in London - including "The London Groove Collective", a group which weaves melody (sax and keyboard) with various percussion instruments to create everything from jazz fusion to ambient soundscapes. As well she sings and plays with WomenSpiritSong choir, and Joyful Noise choir. Sheila is a proud volunteer at My Sister's Place where weekly drumming on a Monday morning gets the week off to a fine start, and also volunteers with the Grand Theatre, the Women's Circle at Brescia and Heart-Links, a small London NGO which walks in solidarity with a community of women and children in the desert regions of Northern Peru.

For today’s show, I’ve got something a little bit different lined up for you. If you’re on my mailing list or in my facebook group, Own Your Creativity Café, then you’ll know that I have been on this podcast journey for more than a year with my accountability partner, Lauri Mackey. She interviewed me on her show, Lauri’s Lemonade Stand in June of 2016, and I recently interviewed her on my show. Then Lauri had this idea to share our interviews on each other’s podcast, and I thought that was a great idea. So, Lauri aired my interview of her on her show on May 1st, 2017. (Click here to listen to that episode.) Today, I air Lauri’s interview of me. It’s a great way for you to get to know me a bit more plus a great introduction to Lauri’s wonderful show, too. I hope you enjoy today’s episode and I’d love to hear any questions or comments you might have. You can get in touch with me at info@ownyourcreativity.com.

In this episode, I talk about how to use reflective journalling for creative success and transformation. I also make a distinction between diaries and journals and show how you can use this writing practice for both personal and professional goals.
Hi, I'm Kimanzi :) In the last five years, my books have sold over 100,000 copies. I have spoken at conferences and companies in 36 countries. You can see my articles in the largest websites in the world and I have helped thousands build their dream lifestyle business.
I can clearly remember the day I knew I had to make some major changes in my life. It was three a.m. and I was delivering bread to a grocery store on a brutally cold Wisconsin morning. As I was taking three stacks of bread off the truck and onto a lift, I fell and hit the ground hard. There were about three inches of snow on the ground, so it cushioned my fall, but the reality of my situation hit me like a ton of bricks. If the fall wasn’t bad enough, the bread ended up falling on top of me.
This was mid-2011 and my life was a mess. I was over $180,000 in debt. I was 170 pounds overweight. I had owned a bread delivery business for twelve years that I hated more and more. I woke up every day dreaming of a better life but I didn’t do anything about it. After the “bread incident,” I promised myself that I would finally take action on my dream of becoming a writer.
That year, I wrote and self-published a book only to have it flop. The book sold five copies in the first six months and those copies went to friends. I spent the rest of 2011 studying how to sell books and build an audience on the Internet. Along the way, I spent over $5,000 on coaches, courses, and on digital information products that I hoped would bring me results. What I got was a lot of hype and not enough practical content to help me build my lifestyle entrepreneurship dream.
I spent all of 2012 implementing and taking action. I landed 60 guest posts on various blogs. I was a guest on over 80 podcasts. I networked with anyone who would talk to me. By the end of 2012, I had a lifestyle business that was generating $5,000 a month. I was able to use the income to pay off ALL of my debt.
I got to speak at 36 conferences that year, I coached 20 people and helped them with their dream, and I was hungry for more. I was able to sell my bread business and live a life of freedom through lifestyle entrepreneurship.
2013 and 2014 were building years. My business would grow from $5,000 a month to multiple six-figures a year. I got to travel the world speaking at conferences and some amazing companies. I got to experience new cultures and learn more about myself.
2015 was the year that my business exploded. I started that year with an appearance on Smart Passive Income with Pat Flynn–someone I look up to. I started writing for some of the largest websites in the world such as The Huffington Post, Entrepreneur Magazine, Success Magazine, AskMen, The Good Men Project, Mind Body Green, and ten other websites. I got consult contracts at companies in countries that I had always dreamed of going to. My books continued to sell and my coaching clients got impressive results.
Today, I live a life I love. I travel the world helping dreamers build a profitable lifestyle business. I am not writing about or speaking on theories here–I have done all of this and more. If you have not signed up for my email list, you should. I deliver fluff-free content every week.
Browse the site and find what resonates with you and what you want to accomplish. Connect with me on social media. Let me help you build a successful lifestyle business that gives you control and freedom in your life. Let me help you build a business that lets you spend all of your time on the things that are important to you.

Today’s episode is about using story in your business. You might be asking yourself, What does that have to do with owning your creativity? Well, that’s what I’ll be talking about as well as three major myths that are stumbling blocks. Today’s show is mainly directed towards entrepreneurs and small business owners who are having problems reaching the people they want to serve. It’s also a show that will hold some interest for you if you have ever thought about writing about your life and the experiences that have led to your expertise or wisdom.
If you happen to be listening to my podcast for the first time, let me give a bit of background. I’m a story junkie. I love reading fiction, non-fiction, screenplays, poetry, you name it. I also love writing in those genres. And one of my all time favourite things to do is to teach about those topics. There’s nothing like getting together with people ready to jump into exploring their creativity. I just finished teaching two classes – one was magazine writing and another was introduction to short fiction. And the best thing about doing what I love is helping people like you unlock your creative potential so that you can think, feel and do better in work and in life.
Recently I’ve been having some informal conversations with my fellow entrepreneurs about how they use story in their business, or if they actually do use story, and how. The surprising thing that came out of these conversations was that not many people are aware of using it, and if they are, it’s not in a conscious, strategic way. When I probed this further, it became clear to me that there are actually some myths surrounding the use of story that are holding people back in their businesses.
Here are the most prominent myths:
Today I’m going to unpack those myths for you so that you can see the possibilities of using story in your business.

About Dr. Paul
Summary
I am a psychologist. I started into school thinking that I would become an engineer, in fact I was a chemical engineering major when I started at BYU way back in 1984. I figured I could make some money using all of those sweet math and science skills that came pretty easily to me. I chose to become a psychologist when I realized that I have a passion for assisting others to live their life on purpose. There is far too much negativity, fear, and doubt in the world. I am on a mission to lift and inspire my fellow human beings to create and live a life they love. When I made the shift to psychology, I found out quickly that not only do I have a love and passion for what I do, I’m also really good at it. When I do my thing, people’s lives are changed for the better. I don’t say this to brag, but to acknowledge that I am in my element. I believe that everyone has a “sweet spot” or a “unique mission” in life, and your sweet spot is when you do what you love for the people who love what you do. I also believe that you have the ability to create a life around your unique mission which has a two-fold effect: First, you begin to love your life – Second, you generate wealth. Some people have commented to me, “Dr. Paul, you are so lucky to have a job that you love!” Lucky??! I made this.
I am a man of faith. I make no apologies for this because it is my faith that gives meaning and context to everything that I do. Those who work with me are perfectly welcomed and encouraged to include discussions about faith and the role that it plays in their life. I’m not here to impose my beliefs on others, and I’m not here as your spiritual advisor. I do believe, however, that our relationship with our creator is the first key relationship we have, and that as we understand our source, life begins to make more sense. I’m happy to share my faith and beliefs with anyone who asks – feel free to ask me about this or get a quick summary here.
In addition to my unique mission and my faith, the love of my life is that sweet lady in the picture with me. Vicki and I were married in 1988 and it just keeps getting better. We have four wonderful children – Ryan, Adam, Brennan, and Lyndi. We have made our home in the beautiful mountains of Utah. I think the best is yet to come!
My Faith
I was raised in the high mountain valleys of Utah, where my Mormon Pioneer ancestors fled after being persecuted for their religious beliefs. My family has been faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for generations back on both sides. I was raised in this faith, and have matured into my own commitment and understanding of the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Vicki and I met as we were both serving voluntary proselyting missions for the Church in Finland. This gave us a good start on our relationship with common beliefs and experiences – and we both speak fluent Finnish as a result! We believe that family relationships extend beyond this mortal life, and that through adherence to certain principles we can be together forever. This adds great meaning and value to our lives. We have raised our children in the Church as well, and at the time of this writing three of our sons have also served missions; Ryan in Fresno California (speaking Spanish), Adam in Stockholm Sweden, and Brennan in Los Angeles California (speaking Korean). We both commit a portion of our time to voluntary service in the Church and in the community where we live. The Church has a lay ministry with no paid clergy. I have served twice as the Bishop of a congregation, and currently teach a Sunday School class of 14 and 15 year old youth. My faith is a great blessing in my life and has been a defining factor for me as I have created my purposes.

Scott Wilhite is an award-winning commercial filmmaker turned social entrepreneur. As a writer, producer, and director he was enjoying a promising creative career without actually enjoying it. During ten of his most productive years he found them to also be ten of his darkest, most unsatisfying years. He felt directionless and that his life was missing purpose and meaning.
This all changed when a friend introduced him to the world of positive psychology and showed him the difference that comes from deliberately, consciously choosing what he mentally focuses on. With his personal transformation, he wanted to make the education easily accessible to others. He created the Feed Your Happy app as a mobile mindset conditioning tool, founded nCOURAGE.LIFE, produced a 40-part video series called 2 min to HAPPY, and authored the soon-to-be-released book The 7 Core Skills of Everyday Happiness: Scientifically Proven Skills For a Happier, More Meaningful Life.
“I had no idea happiness was a skill. I thought I was just a ‘tortured artist,’ and that that’s the kind of life I should expect being in the creative field,” he says. Now he uses all of his creative talents to package mindset skill training for others so they can spiral up and live with intention.
Scott has a beautiful wife who teaches high school, four kids who don’t fight, and lives high up in the Rocky Mountains.

My name is Elizabeth, and I’m a writing coach for wonderful writers like you who don’t want to waste any more time. Through my coaching programs, I give you the tools, support and guidance you need to turn your idea into reality whether it’s a memoir or a screenplay.
Who Am I?
I didn’t know I was a writer. I had always written creatively, but it wasn’t until I went to university that the doors of my imagination were blown wide open.
I had found my calling!
I went on to take two degrees in writing then taught in the arts for over 20 years. Helping others own their creativity was (and is) very rewarding.
But over the years things began to change.
Even though while teaching I still wrote and published on a regular basis, I started feeling stressed at work and that eventually spilled over into my personal life. I was so caught up in the daily routine of teaching that I forgot about the importance of nurturing my creativity.
So, in 2013, I vowed to make my creativity a priority.
No longer would it be something I squeezed in here and there. The result? Not only did I accomplish more, I was less stressed at work and had an overall sense of well-being that had eluded me for years.
It was the best decision I had ever made.
From that moment on, I pledged to do all I could to help others own their creativity so they could lead happy, fulfilled lives and know, in their bones, that it truly is never too late to be who you were meant to be.
Kristen Joy decided she was “unemployable” at the tender age of six when she started her first business making and selling pet rocks. She’s never been able to “hold down a real job…” ever. A serial entrepreneur, in 2003 she turned her life-long love of reading and writing into a full-time career she LOVES, teaching authors and entrepreneurs how to create books that bring them business and turning authors into successful authorpreneurs.
After discovering how to thrive through chronic illness, Kristen went on to write and publish 18 Kindle books in 18 weeks, start over 50 publishing companies for others, publish over 200 books and e-books, teach hundreds of webinars, coach thousands of authors from idea to published, build a livelihood from negative $300-a-month to a multi six-figure business, study martial arts, get her conceal-carry license and eat way too much chocolate.
She currently changes lives through her students… one published message at a time, encourages authors through free articles and videos at TheBookNinja.com, teaches a ton of courses and still studies martial arts, working toward her black belt in MMA karate… while maintaining a healthy daily dose of chocolate.
Besides on her website, she can also be found online at her second home in Facebookland and occasionally aimlessly roaming the Star Wars and pet supply aisles with her man at Target hunting down toys for themselves and their cat.
Hello Everybody, and welcome to today’s show. I’m really excited to announce a new direction for the Own Your Creativity Podcast. Starting today, I’ll be alternating between solo episodes and interview episodes. Why am I doing this? Because there are a lot of things I want to share with you about creative writing, how to do it, why to do it, the science behind it, and how it can enrich your life and the world. I truly believe that art makes the world a better place, and I want to share my passion for writing directly with you.
So the title for today’s show is “Going From Little to Large as a Writer.” Specifically, I’ll be talking about five ways that writing and reading can improve your life so that you own your creativity. I want you to feel empowered so that you go from hiding your light under a bushel to letting your voice ring out in the form of your books, poems, screenplays or whatever other type of writing that you do.
Today’s episode is for you if you want to write but haven’t started yet or if you are writing but haven’t since the results of which you know you’re capable or you’re already happily writing away but love all things related to discussion of the importance of writing.
The five things I’ll talk about today are
Chocolate for the brain
Making Lemonade
Living in the Stone Age
Trying on Different Shoes, and
Changing the world with your stories.
Afterwards, I’d love to hear from you which of the five topics resonated the most with you.
ABOUT ELIZABETH JOHNSTON:
I'm a writing coach for people who have an important story to tell but don't have the right know-how to make it happen and aren’t sure how to make room in their busy lives.
I know how frustrating it can be to feel overwhelmed by work and family commitments, how there never seems to be time or energy left over for you to work on that story you’ve been dreaming about for years.
Truth be told, sometimes you secretly wonder if it's just not meant to be -- because you’ve spent countless hours reading books and trolling the Net, but that hasn’t taken you very far.
You’re at the point now where you don’t want to reinvent the wheel. You want concrete, efficient and professional guidance so that you can own your creativity and finally write that screenplay or memoir.

Meet Laurie Johnson
After years of struggling with self-esteem, Laurie empowered herself through the use of Creativity. As a young child, she would spend hours dreaming and creating: thus providing her a means to express her emotions. As she grew into a young woman, her creativity included words and poems, often writing poetry in her back yard amongst the trees, expressing her uneasiness with growing up and the challenges she faced with her own self-worth. Laurie believes Art and Creativity is a voice for those who feel silenced, a tool for healing pain and sadness, and has personally experienced how creativity develops the mind, and empowers the soul. Laurie adds that without the regular engagement of artistic expression we deprive humans of a basic need: Art nurtures the body, soul and mind and can be a wonderful catalyst for growth, change and possibilities...'

Hi, I'm Mikaël.
I grew up in Paris, France.
When I was 20, I decided to move to Montreal - kind of on a whim - because I needed a change of scenery. I got into a business school, and graduated from a bachelor in marketing.
After that I worked for 3 years in an ad agency, and then one year as a brand strategist in a shoe company. I'd always wanted to not work in a big company, so after 4 years of doing exactly that, I finally grew the courage / reached my frustration limit and quit with no other plan in mind but to 'Try and figure out what I really want to do with my life.'
I bought myself a camera because I'd been a fan of humans of NY for a while, and figured hey, while I figure out what I'm gonna do, why don't I create a Montreal version of the page? With a couple of friends, we started the page. It didn't take long before we had 20K likes on Facebook, were featured on a few newspapers, and got invited on various tv shows.
So we continued, and I invested 100% of my energy into photography because it was making me happier than anything else I'd done before. It's not so much the photography, it's the things I'm photographing, the people my camera allows me to meet, the places it takes me, the situations it puts me in, the stories it uncovers. It connects with the world and its inhabitants. And I love it for it.
This is how I officially became a photographer. It wasn't my plan, it just sort of happened.

Flora Brown was an entrepreneur as early as 10 years old. She sold her handmade potholders to the patrons of her mother's beauty shop while they sat captive under the dryer or waited their turns. She became hooked on earning money from her creative endeavors, but it was her love of school that led her to embrace a teaching career.
While teaching junior high through college levels and managing four children with her husband, Flora wove creative activities throughout their busy lives. In addition to the typical tasks of motherhood, for example, Flora wrote lyrics to Bach's Minuets to make it easier for her budding violinists to learn their pieces, even as she wrote articles for education and consumer publications, and completed her Ph.D.
When she retired as Professor Emeritus from Fullerton College, Flora became fascinated with blogging, internet radio, and encouraging readers to make choices that lead to fulfilling lives. In her book, Color Your Life Happy: Create Your Unique Path and Claim the Joy You Deserve, 2nd edition, she shares what she’s learned from ancient wisdom, her own experiences, and the highlights of positive psychology research. In her true fashion, she recently published a book of creative and relaxing activities in keeping with the coloring craze: Color Your Life Happy Coloring Book for Adults.
Flora continues to write, but also coaches aspiring authors and teaches guided autobiography classes for those who want to write their life stories as part of their legacy.
She loves theater, British murder mysteries, most types of music, singing, and hosting dinner parties. In her determination to visit every continent (except Antarctica) at least once, she has one continent to go.
Her philosophy is “nobody becomes somebody without the help of somebody else. “
She offers free downloads on her sites FloraBrown.com and ColorYourLifeHappy.com and invites listeners to follow her on social media.

Take Me Dancin' is Lp Camozzi's 2nd adult single release. It's the story of his married life and the planned title track of his first adult album. Some have commented that Take Me Dancin' has an old time country, live music feel brought to life with fiddle, harmonica, slide and acoustic guitars, bass and brush snare. All that's missing are the line dancers. Who hasn't fallen in love on a dance floor?
His first two CD's of original music for kids were entitled Even Kids Get the Blues and Even Kids Go Country. The third was supposed to be Even Kids Wanna Dance but the true dance stories in Lp's adult life evolve around women he'd danced with. So Take Me Dancin' will soon be followed by I Wish We Could Dance, On The Disco Floor and I Ain't Broke But I Sure Am Busted ...to name a few.
Besides his voice, Lp's main instrument is blues harmonica, which he has played off and on for 40+ years. He came to guitar late but plays a foot tapping rhythm acoustic guitar. And he's a mean spoons player.
Lp loves bluegrass especially bluegrass singers. Americana, folk and good old time country music fill his Lp record collection. Admires and plays Springsteen, Neil Young, Hank Williams and Eagles covers.
A father of three and grandfather of four, Lp is singing into his retirement career as a full time singer/songwriter and author. He is also a published Tanka poet and author of three children's books. Although born in the Kootenay Mountains of British Columbia, Lp currently lives in Montreal Canada with his French Canadian wife of 35 years.
Family, friends and a love of words. And Dancin'. That's Lp Camozzi.

Sylvie Filiatreault was born in Montreal (Quebec) in 1972.Raised by a single mother, who recognized at an early age, her daughter’spenchant for the arts. She nurtured Sylvie’s talent and interests with weeklytrips to the library and providing her with the tools needed to persevere inher passions for the arts and literature by attending seminars and conferencesat a very early age. ‘‘I remember going to those events and sitting on abooster seat to the surprise of all who were present.’’
She is a graduate of Concordia University inFine Arts and Art History; two disciplines that married her deepest passions:stories told in images. “I have alwaysbeen fascinated with the paintings ofcenturies past as they hold the many secrets of the times in which they werecreated. Every work of art, every pieceof architecture, every word ever written is a time machine in itself”.
In 1998, after graduating from her Bachelors degree, Sylviewas well on her way to starting her Masters Degree in Art Therapy but left herstudies to care for her ailing mother. She persevered through many “dead end”jobs. Thankfully, many of her stories were given birth during these cubicleyears. They were difficult times but she found refuge in her writing whilstdealing with the pain of a parent’s illness.
Sylvie’s curious personality left her dissatisfied withonly reading about historical events and places. She wished to experience themfirst hand therefore with her mother’s blessing, she sold all her worldlybelongings, donned a back-pack and traveled to Scotland, England, France, eventually settling in Ireland, reveling in the history, culture and mythology.
Sylvie presently lives in Brossard (Québec) and is acolumnist for a monthly Community News paper. She is currently working on atrilogy (fiction) spanning over centuries about power and manipulation of womenin the name of Christianity. Sylvie has also illustrated a children’s bookentitled: ‘‘A Poppy for Pappy’’ that is presently being sold in TheCanadian War Museum of Ottawa, to raise funds for Canadian’s Veterans. Thus ensuring that our next generation never forgets those who sacrificed somuch for our freedom.
Her favorite inspiring quote for living her life is byJulius Caesar, ‘‘I came, I saw, I conquered’’. Dreams are only events that wehave yet to set in motion for ourselves. All it takes is for us to put the fearof failure aside and take that first step.
