Passage: Genesis 2:18–25
"Man does not just need company. He needs help. Male and female are necessary not only for mutual relationship in which they will reflect God but also for mutual help in carrying out the creation mandate entrusted to humanity." –Christopher Wright
Preacher: Interim Pastor Jon Storck
"Before anything is said about evil, or pain, or sin we need to first hear this note of excited pleasure. What God made is good! This is the basis for a celebration and enjoyment of God's world." —David Atkinson

“The Church provides a context to experience the power and love of God, and the deity and lordship of Jesus. When the Church faithfully follows its Lord, it. . .is the light that shines in dark places. It is the living evidence that Jesus is the crucified and risen King who reigns. The most obvious and powerful example of this is the experience of love. . .Which is why Jesus himself said. . .in John 13:35, ‘all men will know that you are my disciples for the love that you have for one another’.”
– Mario Russo
Preacher: Interim Pastor Jon Storck
Reflection:
"The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater." – Haldir, The Fellowship of The Ring
"He who was seated on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all things new'.” – Revelation 21:5
Preacher: Interim Pastor Jon Storck
"A pattern emerges in the story of Scripture: victory comes through suffering, exaltation through humiliation, and ultimately, the kingdom through the cross."
– Jeremy Treat
Preacher: Interim Pastor Jon Storck
Text: Genesis 1:26-31
Title: God Made Me in His Image, Therefore I Am
Quote:
“People today are trying to hang on to the dignity of man, but they do not know how to, because they have lost the truth that man is made in the image of God....We are watching our culture put into effect the fact that when you tell men long enough that they are machines, it soon begins to show in their actions. You see it in our whole culture -- in the theater of cruelty, in the violence in the streets, in the death of man in art and life.”
― Francis A. Schaeffer, Escape from Reason, 1968

The "new city" is described as a place where there will be no more tears, sin or pain, and where we will behold and be with God.
The new city:
1) is physical
2) is communal
3) is worshipful
Sermon adapted from Voddie Baucham
"I choose to believe the Bible because it is a reliable collection of historical documents, written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin." – Voddie Baucham

God can restore even the most unfaithful person because of his redeeming, restoring love.
By the work of the cross, God calls us to humility & compassion rather than the sins of Edom.
God calls us into Christ-like humility and out of the pride of our hearts (vs. 1-9)
God calls us into Christ-like compassion and out of aloof indifference (vs. 10-14)
God promises both judgment and compassion. (vs. 15-21)
