Playlist: fertility

Over the Australian Summer months I’m doing the podcast a little differently. I’m creating 3 ‘playlists’ for different topics, where I into the archives looking for episodes on the topic and briefly summarise the content. I will list the episodes in the show notes so you can listen to the full content if you want to learn more.

In this podcast I’m looking at fertility.

Ep 59: 4 Things about Endometriosis and fertility they don’t tell you. When you have Endometriosis and you know you want children, you might be worried about how it affects your fertility. And yes, Endometriosis does pose some challenges for your fertility, but it does not necessarily mean you’ll be infertile. The more you understand about your Endometriosis and how it affects your fertility, the better able you will be to make the right decisions for you, so in this episode I share 4 things you may not get told about how Endometriosis and fertility.

Ep 68: How inflammation affects your fertility and how diet can help. Inflammation is a key driver, the 'engine' behind your Endometriosis progression and spread. So how does it affect your fertility? I'll explain the role that inflammation plays, directly and indirectly, in your fertility and what diet changes are key to make to start to reduce this inflammation.

Ep 65: When should you start to work on your fertility? In this episode I share my recommendations for when to start working on your fertility when you are:

  1. ready to try for a baby now

  2. planning to start trying in 6 to 12 months

  3. not ready yet but know you want children at some point.

Ep 32: The factors that impact your fertility. In this episode I discuss the factors that impact your fertility and how diet and supplements can help to improve your chances of falling pregnant.

Ep 69: Egg-citing: 3 myths and 3 facts about your eggs. Understanding how your eggs mature and what determines egg quality will help you to understand, and influence, your fertility.

Ep 47: Shelley’s journey to pregnancy. In this episode I share Shelley's journey to her pregnancy and what role nutrition played.

In this podcast I’m looking at gut health.

Ep 54: Why you should spend more time thinking about your gut. In this episode I explain how your gut affects your Endometriosis. We look at the role of your gut wall, why your gut wall is probably damaged and how that affects your health.

Ep 4: Did you know you probably have leaky gut? In this episode I talk about Leaky Gut - a problem most women with Endometriosis have, usually without knowing they do, that explains so many of the common Endo symptoms.

Ep: 67: The importance of monitoring your number two’s. In this episode I dive into the wonderful world of bowel movements. I explain the problems with constipation and diarrhoea, what your bowel movements should be like, and what to look for when monitoring your number two's.

Ep 22: How your gut contributes to your anxiety and/or depression. If you experience anxiety and/or depression, you may think it's 'all between the ears'. In this episode I explain how your gut contributes to your anxiety/depression and what you need to change in your diet to start seeing an improvement.

Ep 61: 6 Do’s and Don’ts for healing your leaky gut. In this episode I give you some strategies to start healing your gut and reduce that inflammation. Healing your leaky gut is a key strategy in managing your Endometriosis symptoms. Because you have a disease that is mostly associated with your reproductive system, you may not have spent a lot of time considering how your gut is causing or affecting your symptoms. So, if your gut plays a big role in your Endometriosis symptoms, and this thing called ‘leaky gut’ is a involved, what can you do to try and heal your gut?

It’s only been fairly recently that we’ve started to study the gut and how it contributes to health and disease. And it’s only been in the last 10 years or so that we have started to understand about the gut microbiome and what it its roles are.

Ep: 40: What do gut bacteria actually do? I know I talk a lot about your gut microbiome, and you may know that gut bacteria play an important role in your immune system. But is that all they do? Find out in this episode.

Inflammation is a key driver, the 'engine' behind your Endometriosis progression and spread. So how does it affect your fertility?

I'll explain the role that inflammation plays, directly and indirectly, in your fertility and what diet changes are key to make to start to reduce this inflammation.

If you have Endometriosis and have been trying to fall pregnant you already know that it can be really difficult. Unfortunately, most women with Endometriosis trying to fall pregnant make the mistake of assuming that following general healthy eating advice will be enough to support their fertility, leading to confusion and potentially no increased fertility.

But if you know that general healthy eating guidelines may actually work against your fertility, you understand that you need a targeted nutritional approach that addresses your Endometriosis and improves specific elements of your fertility.

That’s why I’ve running a free online workshop called “How to improve your fertility naturally when you have Endometriosis”. You will learn how Endometriosis affects your fertility; what role your digestive and immune systems play; and how nutrition improves 4 key pieces of the fertility puzzle.

To keep a food and feel diary, record the following for a week:

  • time you wake up
  • rating of your main Endometriosis symptoms on a 1-10 scale (1= no symptoms; 10= excruciatingly bad)
  • time you ate (record for each time you eat and be as detailed as you can) and then 30 minutes after rate your symptoms again.

After a week, start looking for when you rated you symptoms high and look at what you ate. If you notice that each time you eat a certain food your symptoms increase, remove that food from your diet for the duration of the festive season.
