The history of racial caricatures and negative promotion of Black imagery is global, but we are primarily focusing on the United States. Caricatures are stereotype tropes that are perpetuated in media (cartoons, advertising, films, music, etc.) that are meant to demean a group of people.

Children were stolen from China to be enslaved in the Americas, children are used today in fields as agricultural labor. This is about the history of childhood as a social and state construct, and where our society still fails children (particular children of color); historically and presently.

Reminder that children are still locked up in substandard immigration jails.

Clean episode, but adult content.

College and university applications are on the rise, but the acceptance rate is on the decline. For some reason, students are not choosing to enroll in local community colleges... make it make sense?

I forgot to add that a big issue I take with the Offred leading the charge against everyone hating Ofmatthew, the Black handmaid, is because at no point does anyone call Offred out for her treatment of Ofmatthew. Nobody challenges Offred for this mistreatment, nor call out that she clearly does the opposite for the white handmaid, Ofwarren/Janine. Many of us have been treated like that in real life, so that is another triggering aspect to it. Maybe I won't watch season 4 after all...

Have you ever heard of a 'sundown' town? They hold a dark place in American history. I also discuss my visit to the historic site of the Claremont Hotel, which is on the corner of 7th Ave. and Island in downtown San Diego. The footage of that is on my Instagram, @natalyehistory.

Rightfully so, people are questioning the paper trail of national groups that receive donations for families whose loved ones are victims of things like police brutality. Why is the money not going to the victim's families, despite tens of millions made from these people's murder?

Check out your local grassroots organizations, and accounts that share that information with the general public. In San Diego, I like to follow @polititexts; they share a wealth of information regarding where items/funds can be donated to assist local organizing and community members, as well as keeping these organizations honest about who is on their team.

We all have a role to play, no way is more necessary than the other. We all just have to do what we can, and feel a call for.

While cultural mixing has happened since the beginning of time, there was a large push to stop these unions' potential to produce mixed-race populations. These anti-miscegenation laws in the Americas continued from the 17th century through the 20th century, but still perpetuate today. Race was created in the 17th century as a way to control movement of individuals in a caste-system that positions Indigenous and Black people as the bottom caste (meaning they receive the worst jobs, little to no legal protection, etc.).

Reconstruction only lasted 12 years (1865-1877), and in this podcast we analyze why that was. Hint: freedom is not the same as liberty. Black Codes not only limited the liberties and freedoms of Black citizens, but also White citizens. But, you know, they didn't realize that so what else is new?

The North is really no morally better than the South, and the same goes for the West. The Civil War was fought from 1861-1865, and while the North won the war, the South won the social war. They were able to maintain (federally illegal) racist legislation to its 'free' Black citizens; a legacy that has roots in the issues of today. We will also be talking about Lincoln as a politician, playing both sides of the fence, rather than as any true savior of American history.

yells YOU CANNOT SAY YOU ARE FOR THE ECONOMY IF YOU DO NOT WANT PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN THE MARKET ECONOMY.

$15 is not even 'livable' according to MIT's livable wage calculator (https://livingwage.mit.edu/) in San Diego county, for those who have no children. This is indicative of a social problem, as well as a failure of our government.

Important to note that the "federal" minimum wage has been $7.25 since July 2009.

Did you know the United States has a history of lynching Mexican-Americans in the Southwest states, from 1848-1925, largely? It relates to how this group continues to be socially lynched in the media today and feeds people 'believed to be' illegal immigrants into the industrial complex via immigration facilities (private prisons for alleged immigrants).

There is no definition of the middle class, did you know that? Many people who thought they were are not, in fact, stably middle-class. That will be more and more important during the Pandemic; namely, the criminalization of people, and who we were TOLD are the 'poor and homeless'. Turns out, it may be us after all.
