Abundant Life.
Jesus heals a man born blind from birth. Though the man is overjoyed the Pharisees reject both the man and his healer, Jesus. Jesus takes the opportunity to teach about the reality that he is the Good Shepherd and we are the sheep. The thief comes to steal the sheep from the Shepherd, to kill and destroy the sheep. But Jesus came that we may have the ability to have life, a full life, a life that is more than sufficient, over and above and abundant.

The Finger of God.
Daniel is called to serve and to remain faithful, even in the middle of turmoil, and God will always meet us in our faithfulness to him. Belshazzar has lost connection with his past and defiles the articles of the temple. God declares that his days are numbered, his actions weighed and found wanting and his kingdom divided between the Medes and the Persians.

How to come through the fire without smelling of smoke.
Looking at the three Hebrew youths in the book of Daniel, there are three things, which if healthy in our lives, will see us through every trial and test. These are our Character, our Conviction and our Courage.

We Reap What We Plant

You are what you worship
We are transformed by what we believe in, it renews and modifies us in every way. Who or what we worship affects our character, behaviour, outlook and the way we do things. When we worship God we become Godly.

In Daniel chapter 1, we see that we can be in the world, but not of it. In amongst an ungodly culture, we can be obedient to God without breaking society’s rules. God rewards such obedience with increased favour, to make us excel within society and draw people towards God. He empowers us to turn the world upside down (or the right way up!) through His love and Holy Spirit.

Why Sunday Matters
Why is Sunday an important day for the church and what does it, or should it mean for Christians? Based on Hebrews 10:25, that we should not give up meeting together we look at why Sunday is important.

Water from a rock
The story of water from a rock from Exodus 17 is compared with another similar story from Numbers 20. Though these are difficult times God still woks on behalf of his people. He proves that he is faithful, even when we are faithless. One of the significant observations is that God does not repeat himself. He is always doing a new thing.

Running the race to win
If you profess to be a Christian God has called you into a race, a race that he wants us to win. In order to win any race we need to train well, live well, eat well, exercise well and have a belief that we can do it. The same applies with spiritual disciplines and the spiritual race.

Redemption
The great theme of the Easter story is redemption, a theme that runs through the whole Bible. Redemption is essentially being set free, usually from some sort of slavery. We have been set free through the death and resurrection of Jesus.

The Cost of Following Jesus
When we think of how we ought to live if we are true disciples of Jesus we must consider that there will be a cost to following Jesus, we may need to go against the grain of culture and we must consider the claims that Christ would put on our lives. Jesus teaching on the subject is highlighted by three men.
View Details
How we ought to live (Not in worry)
Jesus gives the disciples a clear lead on the whole issue of worrying—don’t do it. Jesus guides us to stop and consider other areas of his creation and how they are cared for. He then puts humans in their place and says; “are you not more valuable?” Jesus urges us to consider what is important in life, namely HIS kingdom, yet still assures us of his care.

How we ought to live (Forgiveness)
Peter asked Jesus how many times he should forgive the brother who sins against him. Jesus answered directly and followed with a shocking parable that would have had an impact on everyone who heard it. Jesus teaching on forgiveness in the church is clear and hard hitting.

How we ought to live (Words, part 2)
Following the previous message this is a practical look at how we put the teaching of Jesus into practice. We are encouraged to FACE every situation and recognise that FACTS get mixed with FEELINGS. We need to ACKNOWLEDGE that there is problem. We must be prepared to CHANGE if we are wrong and we must EMBRACE the situation. We also consider some basic rules of diplomacy and consider some keys as we approach difficulties.

To become like Jesus is to become a servant. Jesus demonstrated to his followers how they should live—as servants. One of the most powerful and shocking demonstrations of this teaching was when Jesus washed the disciples feet. We have been left a powerful example to follow.

A Deeper reality
It is easy to get caught up with life and all of its joys as well as its trials. We need to increasingly discover that there is a greater spiritual reality, a greater dimension to life than just what we experience through our senses. One day we will see Jesus, and the current reality will become insignificant.

Contained within the ‘great commission' (Matthew 28:16-19) is an expectation that the apostles would baptise new converts to Christianity. This is demonstrated in the life of the early church, as evidenced in the book of Acts. This message explores what we believe about baptism, with the encouragement to put it into practice.

You are called
We are encouraged and reminded that we are called to a life of victory, of maturity and of service. This is all possible through Christ, but we must not neglect our responsibility to devotion and dedication to God. We are called to action and reminded that “Action springs not from thought but a readiness for responsibility.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer

You are found
We learn that we cannot earn salvation, it is a gift of God. God sought us out and we were found by him. It is a work of his grace. We cannot allow ourselves to get caught up with the law, particularly religious traditions, but to be found by God’s grace (God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense) and to remain in him through faith, and remain under the umbrella of his grace.

You are valued
Your value is not measured in your successes or your failures. It is measured in the span of a man's arms. We are encouraged to grasp the fact that our value is not dependent on what we do but who we are, that we are loved by God for who we are. This is evident in the cross of Christ as we reflect on John 3:16.

Endurance
This word is presented as a word in season for people in the life of the church here at Whitburn, but we are all called to keep going. We all have choices that we make every day. We each face trials and temptations. In all of these circumstances we are called, encouraged and equipped to endure. We are encouraged to be faithful in small things, to maintain a fervent vision and to hold on to a future hope. But there is also power to endure found in fellowship.

The resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is a turning point in history which changes everything. It is also a key doctrine of the church. Our faith rests on this fact. Despite all attempts to cover it up, even from the very beginning, the evidence is there for all to see. At the time when the resurrection could be challenged directly the church grew at an explosive rate. This encourages our faith.

Ray speaks on how God can use us even in our imperfection. He encourages us to build faith levels.
Note: we had some technical difficulties with this recording which means the sound drops out briefly at 12 and 28 minutes. We have tried to edit the sound so that you can still hear Ray but unfortunately some portions cannot be heard. It switches between quiet and loud in these sections so don't turn it up too much as you'll get a shock when it comes back in!

The great FACT of the Christian faith and the basis of our hope is that one man, the God-man, came to earth, lived an obedient life, died and unjust death, was buried in a tomb but was raised to life on the third day. The apostles were amazed! The women were overwhelmed. Some even doubted. But a fledgling church grew rapidly as a result of this testimony.

Healthy churches are fruitful churches. But the degree to which we bear fruit depends on our roots and our growth. It also depends on what we are rooted in. But the canopy of our lives must grow and reach out to cover others. As we grow personally we grow as a church.

Healthy churches have good foundations. It’s in the foundations that our roots go down, but they need to be good and healthy foundations. This message urges us to look at where our roots go, to become established. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Psalms 1:1-3
