Who do you have winning Miss USA this year? I can tell you my picks, first we have .... NOPE. You have to tune and and find out. It's really a toss up between four major states for me but I think we may make history with this year's winner.
She will either make history as being the second person from her state to win. Or she will make history as the FIRST person from her state to win. Or she will make history as another person from THIS state to continually place as a semi-finalist.
But either way, she will be fabulous. If you are a loyal listener than you know one thing about me... I DON'T MISS. I can spot out a winner from a mile away. Believe me when I say MY top 4 picks are it for sure. There's two states in particular who I can't split the crown over. I would be happy with either.
This definitely got me excited!! I will keep you all updated with continuing coverage for the next two weeks of all things Miss USA. I think this is going to be a transformational year.

FROM THE VAULT - Hey Pageant Posse!
As I was looking through my drafts and cleaning them up, I came across this beautiful episode featuring Larissa Maner, the Owner of Shimmer Boutique in Lewisville, Texas. I had the opportunity to work in her shop and learned so much when it came to not just running a store, but merchandising and gown fitting. SO MANY pageant girlies from the South flocked to her store and drove hours just to hear her vision and ideas for the national gowns. She truly knows what she is talking about when it comes to finding the perfect national gown. She's worked with thousand of girls and majority of them won either their respective titles or walked away with the evening gown award which in itself is a huge feat.
Trust me when I say even though this episode is from 2021, there is SO MUCH GEMS she drops that are so relevant to today. So definitely grab your glasses and sit back to enjoy this episode featuring the Fairy God Mother of Pageant Gowns, Larissa Maner.

As we now know two national directors have been removed from the Miss Universe Organization, Crystle Stewart from USA & Poppy from Miss Indonesia & Miss Malaysia. Both directors were facing sexual harassment allegations with Stewart, specifically also facing allegations of rigging the Miss USA pageant in favor of R'Bonney Gabriel to win.
Miss Universe Indonesia just concluded its pageant and a handful of woman came forward and said they were sexually harassed and were forced to do "body checks" as the leaders were looking for "scars, cellulite and tattoos." MUO immediately cancelled it's contract with the President and also canceled the Miss Universe Malaysia pageant competition.
Let's go ahead and have this candid discussion. What do you think about these incidents? Mind you, MUO only said Stewart's removal from the org was solely based on the rigging allegations yet they found no proof of such rigging. There was no mention of the harassment claims from the Class of 2021 by the former Miss USA VP.

Congratulations! Despite the controversy surrounding her national win, R'Bonney went out there tonight and truly did what she needed to do. There's no doubt that she killed her performance and won Miss Universe. Was I still pulling for a Puerto Rico win? Yes and I'm sad she was left out of the Top 5. This is a prime example of what's for you will not be taken away.
These are my initial thoughts of the #MissUniverse competition and I will make a new episode as more chit chat is heard surrounding this. There's so many layers here to unpack and I hope I covered most of what I witnessed during the show tonight.

TRIGGER WARNING -- abuse, domestic abuse
With more and more stories coming out about women who are in abuse situations like Gabby Petitio and are afraid to leave, I wanted to bring the story one famous Miss America, Carolyn Sapp to light. Crowned Miss America 1992, she was a ball of fire the night she won and although her free-spiritness rubbed some of the Miss America staff the wrong way initially, she was prospering in her life and the cameras were drawn to her. She held three local titles in Hawaii previously and was a well-known local celebrity prior to winning in Atlantic City. Her fame led her to meet her a love interest during a charity event. In the next two years, they were engaged then separated after an unnerving career change in her then-fiance led him to spiral out of control.
Hear how Carolyn became not only an literal overnight victim of the press when her past resurfaced, but how she handled herself in face of controversy and took on the media head first.
click here if you know or are someone who needs help leaving a relationship
Hope Carolyn's story helps to inspire others out there.

She's also conquering the artistic world on top of academics like her Bharatanatyam Arangetram, a traditional study of dance in the Indian Culture. Arangetram is the debut on-stage performance of a former student of Indian classical dance and music. This first performance follows years of training and many Indian classical dance forms perform an arangetram once the time has come for a disciple.
As a physician and current title holder of Miss India USA, it is her belief and mission to spread the idea that people can pursue both: Medicine and their passions.
Grab your glasses for this enlightening discussion on women in academics, how and why woman can truly do it all and she is gained her strength to compete in pageants only after she received her acceptance into medical school via a phone call. Couldn't get enough of Derrick from our first segment? Well we pick up right where we left off in this second episode. Grab your glass because in this emotional 2nd part Derrick shares with us how one of his former pageant sponsors was upset with him, they decided to create a smear campaign alleging he stole the proceeds from his People's Choice voting which were intended for a nationally recognized children's hospital (the same one his five-month-old niece was just treated, cured and released from). Despite the negative attention, Derrick explains the entire situation to us, one he says, he can now finally talk about after all the emotions and legalese finally subsided. He goes into detail about his 5 hour sit-down with the Illinois Attorney General as she went over his $17,000 pageant expenses from his three-day weekend of events, coin-for-coin, while he was the state director and how she eventually was able to rule in his favor saying there was no wrongdoing on his end. Nonetheless, Derrick persisted and like he says, his pageant coaching business, Team DQ: Pageant Prep & Image, grew exponentially after the low period and taught him a few serious valuable lessons about who he allows into his mental and physical space going forward for his state shows. He's now one of the most sought after pageant coaches across the Midwest and became the first Black pageant director/coach to have two of his state titleholders win their national titles sweeping the entire Miss Bikini competition, one of his proudest moments. He's worked with hundreds of contestants and is now the director of several male pageant organizations. Despite his full plate of crowns and glitter, he joins us for this special two-hour chat, so grab your glasses and tune in to part one if you haven't already. This second episode was also recorded live on Youtube and of course I'm enjoying something red, while Derrick is drinking Pink! so join us for all of the shenanigans!

You signed up, payed your dues now how do you get in the mental shape to prepare for your crown destination? Famed pageant coach Derrick Scepter of Team DQ: Pageant Prep and Image Consulting sits down with us over a glass of Pink! to talk about his journey as a Black man in the pageant coaching business and how he broke barriers by becoming the first coach/director to crown two national titleholders at the same bikini competition! Derrick's clients have competed, placed Top 10 or won hundreds of systems during his 20 year tenure which began as a color commentator on the red Miss Universe carpet.
Fun fact, he actually became close friends with Chelsi Smith, Miss USA & Miss Universe 1995 after he nearly tripped and fell right on her!
This hilarious episode with Derrick will open your eyes to the good, bad and ugly sides he's experienced in this industry and how he coaching business grew after he received negative press accusing him of some serious thievery (which was later debunked & ruled in his favor by the sitting Illinois Attorney General).
Yea this episode was recorded live on the Pageants & Prosecco Youtube channel and is so good I made it a two-parter so you will need the accompanying glasses of your favorite drink to enjoy all of it!! Sip up and tune in this one is a real goodie for sure!

You may have seen the contestants of the Miss Black International Ambassador (MBIA) pageant out in your city or blowing up your feeds with their good deeds. It's all apart of the game. The Miss Black International Ambassador pageant grew from the mind of founder Patrice Harrison's desire to see more Black women become true agents of change in their communities and a need for a Black pageant who was focused on developing ladies who are doing good in their neighborhoods well before stepping on stage.
However, the MBIA system has faced some dark days and quite a few obstacles during it's infancy. After a clause in another system's rules prevented women for signing up for her organization. Patrice breaks down this minor inconvenience for us and spills a little tea on her thoughts and feelings surrounding the rule and how she is not allowing it to hinder her leadership.
Grab your glass and cheers on Patrice and the entire 15-person Miss Black International Ambassador leadership team and the system as she joins us just hours after announcing the newest location her 2020 international competition: the Bahamas!!!!

What do you get when you mix a theatre nerd with a psychology major & mental health enthusiast?? Answer = Miss United States 2018!!
Andromeda took the pageant world by storm this past summer when she went for the highly coveted Miss United States title for her 4th time & WON!
She's now talking about her journey and the self-growth she experienced as she chased the crown. A lot of that growth is now the foundation for her platform Your Mind Matters, which takes an in-depth look at ways to use mindfulness, meditation and self-care to a whole new level.
She's now traveling as Miss United States teaching others about the importance of taking a moment to stop and focus on yourself.
Side note: she also talks about the Miss United States system and silence the rumors. This episode is for the person who wants to calm the storm in their lives using the Law of Attraction and manifest everything they ever desired, including the crown.
Grab your glasses!!! I have yet another goodie for you all!

The time has come where we need to start considering an true international beauty pageant board to regulate these competitions. One of my dear friends Kiara Monee Tolentino (from the Miss Black California fame) and I sit down and drink our wine as we REALLY discuss the downsides of pageantry, what goes on behind close doors but really out in the open in the pageant world.
Let's discuss, should there be an official pageant committee regulating our pageant competitions? What should we do if they don't comply with the regulations? Would you still compete?
We sit down and openly talk about the good and bad in competing and what should be done to eliminate sexual harassment and the underground corruption we are currently seeing in our industry.
You might need two or three glasses for this episode. It's an open & honest goodie show for you :)
-Cheers-

Yes I said US! Word on the pageant street is I was quite an intimidating judge for the United States of America's Miss Texas competition. I am shooketh!!! Not really... I can play the part like a fake contestant can easily turn on her Pageant Patty for a quick interview.
This week I am talking about why YOU should love the judge who frightens you and embrace them more than the other judges. Grab your glass and hear why you are sleeping on the intimidating judge and how your overall score is ultimately being affected.

Completely over it with this in-the-closet-racism we are still seeing in pageantry. From lack of diversity in the Top 5 or winner, to just outright outlandish & crude remarks from the system's president to his own contestants.
Mrs. Delaware Kimberly Phillips, Mrs. New Jersey Crissy Timpson, Mrs. Ohio Jeri Ward and Mrs. Missouri Brandy Palacios accused co-founder David Marmel of using the N-word and making racist stereotypes.
They can request an apology, but I want him to step down from the Mrs. America Inc. pageant. Hold your leadership accountable. A sorry doesn't take away from his brash statements. Grab your glass or two and let's talk, shall we?
P.S. I said what I said in this episode, don't @ me

Are you obsessed yet with our new Miss America Nia Imani Franklin?? She recently sat down with the hosts of The Breakfast Club and opened up about the critics who came for her right after she was crowned saying she wasn't a legit New Yorker and when she first knew she was black and experienced a racist moment.
Nia also addresses how she felt as a contestant competing for the first time without the Lifestyle & Fitness round during the Miss America 2.0 competition and the benefits of axing the swimsuit portion.
And of course I share my two cents about the latest information coming from the desk of Gretchen & Regina in regards to them terminating 4 states' MAO licenses and the contestants' POV when it comes to national competitions in turmoil during competition season.
Grab your glass and get cozy! This one is a goodie!
