The Shire lost a stalwart of the Port Douglas Crocs last Thursday the 22nd September. Kenneth Leslie Skinner died peacefully in Mossman Hospital. He was 73. However, Kenneth Skinner was better known as Kenny the Croc, the Port Douglas Crocs mascot for many years. Kenny would lead out the team in his croc suit and hi-five them onto the ground. He was also popular with the kids. Kenny and kids got along so well he took a personal interest in their sporting future through the Port Douglas Junior Crocs AFL Club. It’s estimated he raised $100,000 or more when he started a regular raffle at the Central Hotel. Paul Makin chats with cousin and best mate Gil Julin about Kenny's early days and how this real natural born character ended up in Port.
He is not only a living legend of Australian music but a living treasure. The ever young Lonnie Lee was born on the18th September 1940 and has fronted Lonnie Lee and his band The Leeman until recently He is a pioneer of Australian rockabilly music but conquered pop and country as well during his over 6 decades in showbusiness. At the peak of his career, Lonnie had eight top 100 singles, which included three top 20s, "Ain't It So", "Starlight Star Bright" and "I Found a New Love". He achieved five gold records. Lonnie grew up on a sheep farm in Rowena, New South Wales but in 1956 he competed in a radio talent quest, 2UW's Alan Toohey's Amateur Hour, where he came second. In February of the following year, he won a contest for "Australia's own Elvis Presley" and was soon managed by fellow rock 'n' roller, Johnny O'Keefe who managed to get his rising star signed to Leedon Records. TV appearances followed such as Six O'Clock Rock and Brian Henderson's Bandstand. During the 1960s Lonnie Lee toured the United Kingdom and United States before settling in the US from 1971 recording and writing songs. His songwriting included work with Roy Orbison who he also managed for a time. In 2007 he toured with fellow performers Crash Craddock, Bobby Vee and Lesley Gore from the original rock'n'roll era and many still say he was the stand out on that tour. It was an historic tour as 49 years before, he had toured with Craddock and the Everly Brothers. In 2022 he is still performing and has just celebrated his 82nd birthday with a brand new concept show that started with a sliding doors moment as he prepared to travel to Tamworth. FAB FM's Paul Makin chats with Lonnie about re inventing himself and his stance on Covid vaccinations that sparked that phone call from one of his band which changed his whole musical direction. https://www.lonnielee.com/
Picture is of Paul's annual mates lunch at Revesby (Sydney) with Lonnie Lee front and centre (he must have a portrait somewhere growing old) thumbs up from Paul

Slim Dusty is the undisputed 'King' of country with albums still in the Aria charts 19 years after his death. He's as Australian as Kangaroos, Meat Pies and Holden cars and even in death he is still a force in country music. Tomorrow morning the 30th January at 8.30am on 7Two the documentary show Travel Oz is profiling this unique performer. FAB FM's Paul Makin chats with Slims daughter Anne Kirkpatrick and the host of Travel Oz Greg Grainger about the man and his music and how both took a sentimental journey during the filming. https://www.traveloztv.com/
The curtain has gone down on the recent smash hit run of Priscilla Queen of The Desert at the Clink theatre. The 'SOLD OUT' musical and success is still reverberating among audiences. In fact, this production by the Douglas Theatre Arts Group has tongues wagging for all the right reasons. Word of mouth ran rampant. Musical Director Alteouise DeVaughn, who has some 40 years’ experience in theatre, has her theories on why Priscilla hit the mark. She sat down to chat with FAB FM's Paul Makin (who played Bob the mechanic in the show) to give her thoughts. Plus she talks about her own choirs recent success and the brand new show she's involved in that's coming to the Clink in May.

Thank the good Lord Mike Kuster has finally started to do what he should have done more than twenty years ago. Make great country music. He'll tell you of course that it was all worth it because he married a real 'darlin' and raised three fine kids in that time BUT us country fans were robbed of his presence in the genre. This man has a real contribution to make in good 'traditional' country music, which in some circles is a dirty word these days but Mike doesn't care and neither do we. Keep penning great tunes and recording songs Mike, we'll take all you've got. FAB FM's Paul Makin spoke to Mike all the way from Maryland in the United States to find out about his latest album aptly called 'Better Late Than Never' and see if he had a good excuse for being M.I.A for so long https://mikekuster.net/
Australian expats Alice Beatty (writer, vocalist) and Cameron Potts (writer, vocalist, guitarist) met in 2016 in New York City. Then they ran into each other again less than a year later at Mickey’s Tavern in Nashville, where they had both relocated separately to the same neighbourhood. Do you think the Universe was trying to tell them something? Well the stars did align and now they are a couple making beautiful music together and we are the beneficiaries of that pairing. FAB FM's Paul Makin spoke to Alice and Cameron to find out the latest on their amazing journey in country music. https://thewinnieblues.com/

Jim Slade became one of Adelaide”s top Disc Jockey with Radio Station 5DN from 1962 –1966, Radio Station 5 KA from 1966 –1969 and Radio Station 3 DB Melbourne in 1970. He organised a Baby Boomers live show in recent years in Adelaide which were very well attended. If you lived in another City in those days you would have had your own Jim Slade. For FAB FM's Paul Makin it was Ward 'Pally' Austin in Sydney on 2UW. But settle back and listen to one of the great DJ's of an era long gone and a conversation that takes in his exciting life. FAB FM's Paul Makin says 3 Councillors, including the Deputy Mayor got it wrong by voting against an RV Park in Mossman. Paul's 'Editorial' brings together the man who brought it to Council to be considered Cr Peter McKeown, CMCA CEO, Richard Barwick, Cr Lisa Scomazzon (Deputy Mayor) Mayor Michael Kerr and a mystery guest who popped up at the last minute supporting the 'No RV Park' Councillors.
Todays meeting of Council saw a disappointing result for Cr Peter McKeown who put forward a motion to get an RV Park established in the Shire. He was supported by the Mayor but torpedoed by the other three councillors including the Deputy Mayor Cr Lisa Scomazzon. Despite no cost to Ratepayers and an income for Council it was defeated. It's obvious that Recreational Vehicles are simply not welcome here in the Douglas Shire and Peter McKeown was trying to address that and the massive dollars it would bring in IF it became a reality. But NO, once again the Shire remains closed to progressive ideas. FAB FM's Paul Makin chats to Peter and to Mayor Michael Kerr about this and other matters on the agenda at todays meeting. https://douglas.qld.gov.au/
A change of mind by Mayor Michael Kerr about a Mayoral Minute aimed at repealing a previous decision by Councillors regarding the controversial 'Splash Park' concept. He chats to FAB FM's Paul Makin about his reasons not to proceed over the matter. Biosecurity front and centre today. A road without a name in Mossman finally gets one. A car park change given the green light in Port. New Port Estate in Craiglee, while providing much needed housing has some major traffic concerns. Carnivale expanded next year AND the Australia Day Awards in the Douglas Shire tipped to be the best ever in 2022. https://douglas.qld.gov.au/
We know that it's not really a headline for a tech podcast but FAB FM's Paul Makin is as mad as hell about QLD's Department of Transport and Main Roads leaving the main drag leading into this tourist town an absolute MESS! Tech Guy Richard Pascoe also discusses last minute Christmas gifts including the return of an oldie but a goodie, Richard also reveals which emoji was the number 1 in 2021, a Malware alert that could trap you and your kids, the 'Crap Tech Item Of The Week' AND what * the boys off, including that 'Disaster' the TMR call a road leading into Port. www.talktech.com.au
Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr has sent an open letter to the former contractors of the Daintree River ferry, The Norris Family, requesting that the redacted matters in the Daintree River Ferry Probity Report be released and that they provide full disclosure of recent negotiations with Council. Mayor Kerr says the negotiations have now concluded and he believes that it is in the public interest for these figures to now be revealed to the ratepayers of The Douglas Shire for proper and 'fair dinkum' transparency. FAB FM agrees and we also call on the Norris Family to give the green light for this to happen. Paul Makin spoke to Mayor Kerr about the matter and also asked about the condition of the ferry as our border is about to re open. The full letter can be viewed on our FAB FM Facebook page.
Brad Paisley is one of the biggest stars in country music and he's heading to Mareeba in 2022. Brad will headline Savannah In The Round September-October next year. It's a big coup for the Far North Festival and it took some wrangling. FAB FM's Paul Makin spoke to SITR Director James Dein about the great news for regional Queensland www.savannahintheround.com.au
This week FAB FM Tech Guy chats to the two Pauls about all things tech including 'Tech' Christmas Gifts, featuring a great alarm clock from Google. You might also have to give an I.O.U as a pressie, as one gift is in short supply. When it comes to Passwords we suck! but there is help. Telco legislation amendments now allow Telstra to fight scams. Tamagotchi is back and Richard is not happy about that AND he along with Paul Makin and Paul Makin reveal what is ** them off this week. www.talktech.com.au
It was one of the most fiery meeting's this year as Councilors argued for an hour over what Council should be telling the QLD Government re their controversial Mandate Laws. As the meeting heated up, Mandate and Vaccination protesters outside set up by windows and pressed their views on so called job losses over the 'No Jab - No Job' policy of the State Government. And if Councillors weren't hot enough under the collar already, when the Splash Park proposal for Port Douglas came up, it went to another level. FAB FM's Paul Makin had a chat with Mayor Michael Kerr after the high pressure meeting and his frustration at not getting the water fun park motion up. https://douglas.qld.gov.au/
Former Councillor Rod Davis and his group, Keep PD Free, have likened the actions of Hitler in Nazi Germany to the way the Palaszczuk State Government is handling the mandatory vaccination for employees in the Douglas Shire. Mr Davis insists it's already cost jobs locally and is going to get worse. He claims current vaccines are obsolete and downright dangerous. FAB FM's Paul Makin spoke to Mr Davis at today's protest at the Douglas Shire Council's offices in Mossman. This 'One On One' interview is UNEDITED
Handel's Messiah has long been linked with Christmas celebrations throughout the world and in many countries. The Cairns 2021 performance of Handel's Messiah will bring together a massed choir of singers from across the region. This will be a memorable Christmas event not to be missed. FAB FM's Paul Makin chats to Port Local Alteouise DeVaughn about this exciting production at Cairns Performing Arts Centre this Sunday the 5th of December. The ticket prices are amazing with nothing over $29. https://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/CPAC/ticketlinkEvents/classical-music/handels-messiah-a-christmas-celebration www.ticketlink.com.au
FAB FM Tech Guy Richard Pascoe chats to Paul and Bruce about Christmas Gift Ideas, a COVID tip, tech news in general, The 'Crap Tech Item' of the week get's the brush AND the boys discuss what * them off. www.talktech.com.au

Gina Jeffreys and Tania Kernaghan are also giving back to the industry by paying it forward and mentoring new artists. ginajeffreys.com.au/ taniakernaghan.com/
FAB FM Tech Guy Richard Pascoe chats to Paul about the tech support you DON'T need, A Labor Government would have a 'Scam Buster' Minister if elected, Richard road tests the new MACBOOK PRO, Paul wants to buy the 'Crap Tech Item' of the week AND what ****s the boys off.
FAB FM Tech Guy Richard Pascoe chats to Paul about all things tech including the Fed's plans on privacy online, the Covid Safe App is officially dead but not before tens of millions of dollars was spent and Richard tells us just how much. The iPod is 20 years old and well and truly superceded. And Paul and Richard with what * them off PLUS more. www.talktech.com.au
Port Douglas local Reub Hayes has had 45 years in investment banking, initially specialising in Research Analysis. He was ranked in a survey undertaken by an Australian Financial Review article in the 1980's as one of Australia's exceptional research analysts. SO his report card on how the Covid Pandemic has been handled by Governments, Social Media and the Press is very enlightning. This is not a political point of view, it's an honest look at what has gone right and what has gone wrong.
LEVEL 1 WATER RESTRICTIONS COME IN TOMORROW WED 20TH OCTOBER, The green light given for helicopters to take off from a special helipad near Yule Point, a housing shortage but Council can't give the thumbs up for vacant rural land to be sub divided all due to outdated State laws. Warners Bridge to be re-built for $938,277.00 and new and safe accommodation for victims of domestic violence is a step closer to reality, PLUS more as FAB FM's Paul Makin catches up with Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr after todays very long Council meeting. https://douglas.qld.gov.au/
FAB FM's Paul Makin has been following the independent probity audit examining the three-year process for the 'Daintree River Ferry Service Contract'. It has now been released to the public with some redacting. But Tuesdays special meeting of Council saw two Councillors criticize the report. Paul now his say as he looks closely at this meeting and what the report means for us and Council itself. At least one person has had his reputation restored after a social media hammering and rightfully so. https://douglas.qld.gov.au/daintree-river-ferry-service-probity-audit-released-to-the-public/
A searching probity report into the purchase of the Daintree River Ferry and it's contract negotiations has been ratified by Council. At a Special Meeting in Council Chambers in Mossman, Mayor Michael Kerr, Deputy Mayor Cr Lisa Scomazzon and Cr Peter McKeown voted to have it prepared for public scrutiny. Cr Abigail Noli and Cr Roy Zammataro voted NO. A bit of a head scratcher there because Cr Noli has questioned the lack of consultation and transparency on the matter in the past. Surely releasing the report to the public is about as transparent as you can get. https://douglas.qld.gov.au/
Country singer songwriter and damn good bloke Adam Harvey chat's to FAB FM's Paul Makin about his brand new album 'Songs From Highway One' and the beautiful and emotional song he wrote about his late father Les, who died of cancer. It took a lot to pen something as personal as this, but the result is a touching tribute to a man who loved the beautiful Whitsundays. Adam admits he couldn't do it on his own so he asked for help from Queensland's foremost balladeer and together they re-traced his Dad's footsteps and even went aboard the same boat Les used to work on. This is a once in a lifetime chat with one of Australia's truly great entertainers. BUT a warning, take a tissue to this interview. https://adamharvey.com.au/

FAB FM’s Paul Makin was at the Sheraton to see the opening of his latest gallery and catch Darryn in action. https://thelyonsgallery.com/
The Douglas 'Town Plan' and State planning laws is preventing the Shire from building more homes and a development falls through the cracks. A proposed resort development on Port Douglas Road once again gets the thumbs down after the developers application throws up 18 points of non-compliance. Port Douglas Markets stallholders score a windfall. Community support for an RV Park in Douglas Shire may be high but it's moving at snails pace through Council. 'Taste Port Douglas' receives funds from Council but where's the money coming from? PLUS MORE. FAB FM's Paul Makin had a chat with Mayor Michael Kerr and Deputy Mayor Lisa Scomazzon after todays huge agenda meeting. https://douglas.qld.gov.au/

The DSC Councillors and Mayor certainly had their say on a range of topics today at the monthly meeting. The Port Douglas Gran Fondo Festival, a cycling event in September, while providing a big economic boost should be looked at with caution says the Mayor especially when it comes to closing the Captain Cook Highway. The other Councillors disagreed and there was much debate. But the big one was the elected officials going against staff recommendations that an out of Shire company undertake a big project for Council. Councillors voted to award Douglas Shire projects to local companies where possible. Today they pulled a two million dollar project from a Cairns outfit in favour of a local Douglas company and it seems in a post Covid world this will be the norm as our local economy recovers. Also discussed today 'Pop Up' ratepayer consultation and more. Chatting with FAB FM's Paul Makin, Mayor Michael Kerr also reviews 'Hot & Steamy' held at the weekend.
