In this episode, I'm posting a recorded episode from "Sex, Magick and Dessert" by Franceasca Seiden on Anchor where she interviews me about creating Viva La Vulva. See description from "Sex, Magick and Dessert" podcast.
I interview Dr. Cara Quant. Dr Quant is an internal medicine physician and founder of Viva La Vulva, an organization that educates on female sexual health and wellness and multimedia visual arts.
We discuss the benefits of sexual pleasure and creativity, pussy oracle "vulva readings," suggested lubricants, a healthy pelvic floor and female ejaculation aka squirting.
"The Art World & The Medical World Together Can Do More Than Separately." - Dr. Cara Quant
Viva La Vulva’s mission is to break down the barriers that stop both men and women from talking and learning about female sexual health in a way that transcends race, culture, age and geography. A safe engaging platform through art and medical expertise to normalize the concept of female sexual health. A driving force of change in the way female sexual health is perceived. Viva La Vulva is a movement created and organized by Internal Medicine physician, Dr. Cara Quant who noticed how men’s sexual issues are regularly discussed in the medical community, but women’s sexual health issues are often overlooked. She understands that the language of art can be used for education and as a means of healing. She brought together a diverse team of people with a shared vision to bring the idea of Viva La Vulva into reality.
“So many things can affect a woman’s sexual health throughout her life such as sexual abuse, pregnancy, stress, menopause, cultural ideals and often times the pain or lack of desire that happens as a result of these life events that are not addressed. Education is the key to overcoming.” says Dr. Quant.

As a doctor, I have a different perspective about the vulva. In medical school, I learned its anatomy, I’ve learned what conditions affect it and how to treat them but I never learned about what messages the vulva has, just like the palm has messages during a palm reading.
During this episode, I explore the vulva through the eyes of a woman named Sierra Sullivan, a women’s empowerment coach and Pussy Oracle. About her journey to women’s empowerment and what the vulva can tell us (vulva owners) about ourselves, our mission, the right moves to make, etc. Men and everyone in between, listen up!
“Here I was killing myself to get the message of self-love into the world and then preaching femininity using a very masculine model. And that is totally incongruent to who I am and what I am here to do.”

Aurélia Bizouard is a visual artist working with glass as a metaphor for life. It represents the importance of living, the uniqueness of everything around us: from the contemplation of human existence to the beauty of the ordinary things surrounding us. She searches for the hidden meaning of life and its beauty: how to express the world we see, the emotions and the importance of living? She forces us to stop and be immersed into a moment in life that art influences or highlights. Her work is created with reverse painting on glass panels, sometimes using light, colours or other ways to play and innovate with glass or recycled glass.
Aurélia Bizouard fell in love with art and started drawing cartoons of Japanese Manga at a very young age in France, her country of origin. She grew up in the cradle of impressionist painters near the Seine river. It is in 2011 that she started painting as it is today using acrylic and glass as a canvas. Her painting is now intuitive, using action painting. Contemplation, travels and people unleash her creativity. Today, this French artist lives between Paris, France, and Vancouver, Canada. Her art studio is located in the art and design district of Railtown in East Vancouver and she is also represented in Paris and Los Angeles.
In her decades-spanning practice, raised and educated in the post-modern era, Edvarda is a knowledgeable collector of references from the vast catalogue of art. They draw heavily upon the world of art history and literature,. Towering figures such as Sappho, Dostoyevsky, Nabokov, and Homer are inspiration keys.
Influence by painters like Balthus, Paola Rego, Paul Delvaux, and Tamara de Lempicka, has played a major role in her artistic approach to her intriguing works . Edvarda is from Norway and is now living in Downtown Los Angeles.
*Lili Bernard* is a Cuban-born, Los Angeles-based visual artist and actor. She has exhibited her artwork in numerous galleries and institutions. Her work examines issues of trauma born of sexism and racism, past and present.
Amanda Sage is an American painter who has studied and worked in Vienna, Austria and Los Angeles, California. She trained and worked with Ernst and Michael Fuchs, a classical artist who taught her Mischtechnik.
Tanya Ragir was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. By age fifteen she was honing her skills in drawing and sculpting the human figure. Her studies in anatomy even included sketching cadavers at the USC medical center. Ragir also studied many forms of dance: modern, jazz and ballet. She was performing in a ballet company before attending college. This extensive dance background continues to inform Ragir’s sculpture practice.
