In the Grace and Truth Bible-teaching podcast Christian pastor John Fitzsimmons walks you through books and portions of the Bible in a way that helps you trust and follow Jesus today. In the Gospel of John we’re told Jesus came to the world “full of grace and truth”. He came full of both because the world desperately needed both. It still does! This is why the Christian message remains more relevant than many realise. It’s John’s hope this podcast would be one extension of God’s grace by faithfully applying God’s truth to everyday life.
This is the fifth of a six part series exploring The Lord’s Prayer. The series was originally recorded as a video series in County Mayo during the lockdown at the beginning 2021. It was recorded outdoors in different parts of Mayo, hence the sounds of nature in the background. It was also a series I shared with my friend and colleague Cathal Duffy who pastors Castlebar Christian Fellowship. This fifth episode was recorded at Burrishoole Bridge just outside Newport on the way to Achill. In it I consider the line, ‘lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil’. What is it we are asking for deliverance from when we pray this prayer?

In it Cathal reflects the power, offer & call to forgiveness in the words, ‘forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us’.

This episode of a season on the Psalms written by the Sons of Korah is all about knowing God as our refuge & strength in troubling times. Psalm 46 is an encouraging Psalm for the days we live in. It gives us a reason for not fearing the worst, reminds us that God is our help within & without & assures us that all will be well in the end.
Psalm 45 focuses our attention on the beauty of our King & leaves us wanting to tell everyone about him! The Psalm speaks of the beauty of his speech, the beauty of his cause, the beauty of his reign & the beauty of his bride.
This podcast looks at Psalm 44 , a Psalm which addresses when bad things happen to faithful people. The Psalm doesn’t answer why such things happen or give us a way of avoiding them. Instead it gives us a way of expressing faith in God in such times & the freedom to be totally honest before him.
When everything in life goes wrong does it mean we have lost favour with God or that he has forsaken or forgotten us? The central truth of Psalm 42 & 43 (originally one song) gives a resounding NO & instead declares that even on the worst day of life God is still orchestrating his steadfast love for us! He is not only the LORD of our good days but the God of our whole life!
