These ones have been so captured by the worth of Jesus, so convinced of power of the gospel, and so motivated by the urgency of the hour that they have decided to do what very few in history have done: preach the Gospel to those who haven’t heard. Through the finished work of the cross, Jesus has broken the power of shame and delivered us from all of its deadly effects. There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Jesus returns to His hometown in Nazareth after His baptism and reads the scroll aloud in the synagogue out of Isaiah, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me…” Isaiah 61 was Jesus’ mission statement that He began with his ministry and what he handed to His church in Acts 1:8, “the Holy Spirit will come upon you…” R.A. Many of us have a dull view of Jesus. Many of us are familiar with the Person of Christ but not the personality of Christ. We do not worship a memory, a memorial of what once was, or a teacher who has died. Christianity is not another dead religion. This morning and for all time we worship Him who is alive forevermore. The earth was designed to flourish under the leadership of a human king in agreement with the uncreated God. When the first Adam gave away dominion of the earth to the Serpent in the Garden, God promised a King who would come to reclaim and restore it. On the day of Pentecost, Peter stood up and proclaimed to the residents of Jerusalem that Jesus was raised from the dead to sit on David’s throne and rule the earth as Lord and Christ. There is still an unfulfilled promise that God has to David. Easter is the celebration of an empty tomb and the cry “Maranatha” for Jesus to sit on that empty throne.

David’s life vision is stated in Psalm 27:4. He lived from this “One Thing” and used his resources to build a context where an entire nation could dwell, gaze, and inquire with him. This context became the model for the New Testament Church. David’s life is a picture of what God wants to release by the Spirit on leaders and the end-time church. We want to be a people who are present with God, preoccupied with His beauty, and in constant conversation with Him.
In Matthew 24, Jesus identifies three global trends that will culminate in the generation of the Lord’s return, dynamically affecting the church and the missions movement. Wars, deception, and persecution are going to increase in frequency and intensity as we approach the return of Jesus. He is preparing His people now to walk through that hour with free hearts, alive in love, and anointed with power. It is those who will guard their love from growing cold that will take this gospel to the ends of the earth.

Jesus’ commitment to justice is what led Him to the cross. To restore all things, He must first redeem all things. The cross was the beginning of a work that will end in Jerusalem with all things made new. The response to the “new things” that God is releasing is new songs from His people in the nations. These prophetic songs will provoke Jesus to action. These songs are the sound of His inheritance and of His coronation when He comes to sit on David’s throne.
God builds His house by raising up spiritual family. The house of the Lord is not a building, it is a people who are built together as a resting place for God. In the next few months, MAPS Global is going to go through the most significant transition in our history as we prepare to move the “ark of His presence” up to its permanent location. In addition, there are many in Richmond who are perceiving a prophetic moment that is upon us as a city. Because of the significance of this moment, we feel led to begin this process with a moment of fasting, prayer, and extravagant worship. We want to come before the Lord together and joyfully at the beginning of 2022 to confess that all that will take place is “not by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit of the Lord” (Zech 4:6). If His Presence does not go up with us, we will not go up from here.
We are caught up in a story that is millennia in the making. What was promised in the Garden was revealed in Bethlehem. What started in a manger will finish on a throne in Jerusalem. Even so, Maranatha, come Lord Jesus.

What will cause a young man or woman to give themselves radically for the gospel over decades? What will take them to the heights and depths, counting it all as loss, picking up their cross and embracing personal discomfort for the sake of the name of Jesus? In Matthew 11, while in prison, John the Baptist send his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the one who is to come or shall we look for another?” The one who had sacrificed so much and prepared the way for the unveiling of the Messiah, now sat in prison questioning whether or not he made the right decisions. John was offended at Jesus because of unmet expectations that caused Him to be blind to the activity of Jesus in his day. To those who overcome, there is an invitation to reign and rule with Him.

In the Letter to the Church in Philadelphia, Jesus encourages and exhorts the people to persevere, hold fast, and fix their attention upon eternity. Jesus emphasizes His care for His people as He intervenes to open and shut doors, helping those who are persecuted and in difficulty to fulfill His will. He then lays out the rewards to those who overcome, promising that those who keep His Word are able to because they are being kept by Jesus.

In Jesus's letter to the Church in Sardis, He is asking the leaders and believers “Where is the most important place for your name to be known?” The Church in Sardis had fallen asleep spiritually, coasting on their reputation as a revival church. In reality, they had lost a deep desire for God's presence, a hunger for the Word, and had a dullness on their spirit in the midst of the busyness of ministry. Jesus calls the church to “wake up," take a hard look at the condition of their hearts, respond to His words, and align with reality.
The generation of the Lord's return will witness the greatest crisis that the earth has ever experienced as man's sin matures in unprecedented wickedness coinciding with the judgments of God in the nations. But that's not the end of the story! The most glorious days of the Church are coming when she is beatified in holiness, victorious in love, moving in power, and giving witness to the Gospel throughout the nations of the earth. We must be a people who declares and prepares for both the coming crisis and the coming glory, responding rightly to Jesus now as He prepares us to walk in the days ahead.
Fiery trials are part of Jesus’ leadership over our lives to expose hidden areas of pride, self-exertion, selfish ambition, and by the grace of God produce greater measures of love and humility that will ultimately allow us to carry greater measures of authority and anointing. Walking through Song of Songs chapter 5, R.A. Martinez shares how worship in the midst of trials and accusation wins battles and provokes the nations to say "Who is your beloved that we may seek Him?" If we choose to worship instead of become bitter and offended, it will result in praise, glory, and honor as we see Jesus.

Yet, Jesus's primary concern was not with Satanic influence in the city but compromise in His church. We paused this Sunday from our Seven Letters series to address an issue that the Lord has been putting his finger on in our midst. On the cross you were reconciled to God. He not only reconciled you but is reconciling your history, your ancestry and every component of your story with your new identity and redeeming it for your destiny. Therefore, we must renounce regret over past seasons to fully embrace what Jesus is doing with us now in this moment and where He is leading us. The enemy wants to cause us to dwell in a sorrow that Paul calls “worldly grief”. This kind of grief or sorrow produced death. How does it produce death? It keeps us from moving forward in our God designed destiny. Regret is designed by the enemy to stall you out in your journey.
