Wittenberg Radio is weekly podcast discussion of issues important to the CMU community. We are a production of CMU Student Council.
In this episode we talk with Tim Cruikshank, Director of Estamos, to learn about CMU’s study abroad options, diving into the details of the new Estamos courses! Afterwards, we sit down with Grace Bruinooge, who was in Guatemala last semester, to hear about what she learned and how she grew during her time on Estamos!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Kara, Grace, and Natasha rank popular Christmas songs, test their Christmas media knowledge, and share stories of their holiday traditions. Tune in to see where your favourites land and maybe discover something new!
Why, hello there! We’re back to kick off another great season! Tune in to meet this year’s hosts, Kara, Grace, and Natasha, and get to know them through a deep dive into their Enneagram and Myers Briggs personality types (and more!). Here we go!
Looking to add good movies to your watch list for summer break? We sat down with three movie-loving CMU students to find out what they’ve been watching this year and dive into the meanings behind their must-watch recommendations. Plus, stick around for a recap of another exciting season of Blazer volleyball!
Have you ever wondered how the beautiful mural appeared between Marpeck Commons and the North Campus building? Did you know that CMU's Student Council welcomed a new representative position this school year? For this month’s episode, we sit down with CMU student and friend, Katie Anderson, to hear all about this, and more!
CMU has a new travel and study abroad program! We sat down with two students, Signe and Mia, who were both on the Estamos team last semester. Wonder what they got up to? Tune in to hear stories and reflections from their time living, learning, and working in Guatemala!
Happy Holidays! Have you ever wondered how different countries celebrate the holidays? We invited international students Cedric, Cleto, and Rosalyn to share their stories about Christmas, New Years, and Lunar New Year from their home countries. Tune in to learn more - we’re so glad you’re here!
New year, new hosts? Tune in to get to know Wittenberg Radio’s newest hosts, Kara and Andrew, get a first impression on this year’s Blazers teams, and find out what has been happening at Thursday Forums. We’re so glad you’re here!
Russell Willms is leaving CMU?! This episode is a bittersweet one. Chloe and Daniel managed to sneak Russ, CMU's now former Athletic Director, into Studio 1 before he heads off to his hometown out west where exciting new career opportunities beckon. From a masters in theology to the soccer pitch, learn about Russell’s beginnings in athletic direction and reminisce along with us about his favourite Blazers moments and memories. We’ll miss you, Russ! Thank you for all that you’ve done for CMU and Blazer’s Athletics.
Dan and Chlo sit down for a laughter-filled conversation with CMU’s newest faculty member, Dr. Sunder John Boopalan (but you can just call him John). Assistant Professor of Biblical and Theological Studies, you may have taken a course with him online because he started teaching in the midst of the pandemic, but if this episode doesn’t encourage you to sign up for a course with John live and in-person, we don’t know what will! From the surprising outcomes of hosting the Faculty Fellow forums to creating his dream CMU course, this is a conversation you don’t want to miss.
Dan and Chlo are back in the studio to introduce you to this year’s Student Council president, Nicholas Harder. What does Nick hope to accomplish with his presidency? What is stuco up to this year? What would it take to turn the Blaurock into a BAR? Take a listen and find out.
Chloe and Dan invite their pal, and fellow student-athlete, Matthew Pagé to embark on Studio 3’s maiden voyage (that’s right, this ISN’T a Zoom interview)! After christening the space with hand-sanitizer, they talk about why they are choosing to stay and play one final season as Blazers. Do you really need to finish a 4-year degree in 4 years? Will the Providence vs. CMU rivalry take over the court/field once again? Is playing Rocket-League really an effective off-season training activity? Listen and find out.
There are two things that Chloe loves: in-person classes, and making lists. So, she combined these loves and made a list of her 5 favourite things about in-person classes. In this episode, Chloe and Dan discuss this list and get all mushy about how much they love their university. Also, Dan swears too much and makes Chloe do extra editing work. Thanks, Dan.
Dan and Chlo are joined for the first time on Zoom by two CMU instructors, Kenton Lobe and David Balzer. In the episode, they discuss new learning patterns, the benefits and drawbacks of Zoom, and class participation.
Everyone's favourite Director of Student Life, Charlie Peronto, joins Dan and Chloe (over Zoom) for a discussion on wellness during Manitoba's Code Red period. Learn more about the creative ways the Student Life department is keeping students connected (profs reading bedtime stories, anyone?), hear confessions and suggestions from students regarding wellness, and find out which Twitter accounts Dan, Chloe, and Charlie would love to take over.
The geese are back on campus, and Chloe still has some questions for these “fowl” creatures. And this year, she has some help from the one and only Daniel McIntyre-Ridd, once she teaches him the basics…
Cinematography: Matthew Pagé
“My voice barely matters. That’s the truth. A Black gay man from the developing world has nothing to offer a white colonial ego. That’s why white people need to get over their defensiveness – admit they have privilege and work to dismantle the systems that stifle our breaths. It should be enough for me to say I’m scared or that we should stop entertaining white nationalist rhetoric. However, that isn’t the world we live in.” - Austin Tillet
In this episode of Wittenberg Radio, Dan and Chloe are joined by writer, international student, Comm + Media major, CMQ co-director, and overall cool-guy, Austin Tillet. Austin shares about his practicum with Geez Magazine, and the article he wrote titled “Our Breaths Are Stifled”, chronicling the reality of racism and white-privilege from a very personal point-of-view.
