Since 2020, Matt and Leslee Holliday have brought weekly conversations of faith, marriage, parenting and sports to listeners through the Table Forty Podcast. As we look ahead to the new year, the show will undergo some changes starting in 2023.

Matt was recently hired as the bench coach for the St. Louis Cardinals. That means his time and availability for the show will be limited. But the show isn't going away. In fact, if you'v enjoyed Table Forty, you'll now have a new episode in your feeds every morning.

Starting January 1, 2023, Leslee will lead listeners through the Bible in a Year study through The Increase. These will be short episodes in your podcast feed each day that will help guide you through the Bible in a year. We hope this will serve as encouragement to you and help form a daily discipline of being in the Word. Leslee will be joined periodically by guests and, when free, Matt as well.

We thank you for your support of Table Forty and are excited for you to go on this journey with us of reading the Bible in a year.

As final words often are, some of Jesus’s last words to His disciples before He ascended into Heaven were significant. We should lean in very close to hear and heed the task He left them (and us) with, until His return.

These final words of Jesus are often referred to as the Great Commission, and as a follower of Jesus, it truly is the greatest mission we get to be part of. There is nothing more exhilarating and life-giving than to love and care about others so deeply that you are willing to lay aside your agenda, comfort, reputation, or even safety to bring the life-changing love and Good News of Jesus to others.

We are called to "multiply" and make disciples. Sharing our faith with others can be intimidating, though, and we often doubt our ability to do it. This week on "Table Forty," Matt and Leslee Holliday discuss how we as Christians are always representing Jesus, whether we're in church or at the grocery store. The life that happens in between presents plenty of chances to display God's love and to multiply our faith by sharing the hope of Christ with others.

This is the final week of our study through the "Discipleship Handbook," a 10-week plan from The Increase that examines some of the most important topics encompassing what it looks like to be a disciple of Jesus.

Faith is often a struggle. It can be a battle to hold onto faith when there is so much hardship and suffering in this world. The various trials we all face in life present us with unique temptations to lose faith. Where the enemy wants to use trials as opportunities to devour our faith, God wants to use them to refine and strengthen it.

As believers, we can cling to the truth of Hebrews 11:1, which says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” This week on "Table Forty," Matt and Leslee Holliday examine what it looks like to have our faith grown stronger in the midst of the hard seasons of life.

Having established that children of God get to bear the family resemblance to our Heavenly Father by the power of the Holy Spirit, how might we summarize what that resemblance most purely and simply looks like? Asked a different way, is there a “greatest commandment” in the Bible?

Thankfully, we have such a question and response recorded for us in Matthew 22: Love God and love others. This week on "Table Forty," Matt and Leslee explore that great commandment and how it compels us to love God and others.

This is Week 8 of a study through the "Discipleship Handbook," a 10-week plan from The Increase that examines some of the most important topics encompassing what it looks like to be a disciple of Jesus.

Last week we looked at our new identity as children of God. However, even with a new nature and identity, we will still battle against sin and our “old nature.” A work of change and transformation (called sanctification) needs to be done where we become more and more like Jesus, and this is a lifelong process.

God begins a good work in us that we are called to participate in through the submission of our will with His. He empowers and sustains us with His Spirit and grace, and calls us to cooperate with Him in this transformation work. This week on "Table Forty, Matt and Leslee Holliday explore what a new life for a believer looks like.

When you come to Jesus in trust and surrender, the Bible says you are a new creation with a new heart and a new identity. Where your heart was once unresponsive to God, it is now responsive and alive to Him. Where you were once alienated from God as an orphan you are now born of God into His family, with Him as your perfect Father and other believers as your spiritual family.

How have you seen the transformative power of God in your life? What “old” has gone and what “new” has come? That's the focus this week on "Table Forty." Matt and Leslee Holliday press on to Week 6 of the "Discipleship Handbook," a 10-week plan from The Increase that examines some of the most important topics encompassing what it looks like to be a disciple of Jesus.

Last week we discussed the problem of sin and what that does to separate us from God. The good news is that, through Jesus' death on the cross, we as Christians get to experience grace. As Romans 5:8 says, “God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Where we could never get back to God on our own, God made a way.

The Gospel is the good news that Jesus – God the Son, fully God and fully Man, the long-awaited and promised Messiah – died on the cross to pay the price for our sins so that we might be reconciled to right relationship with Him – completely forgiven, set free from the penalty and power of sin, and given a new heart that can turn away from sin and enjoy the presence of God. He was raised from the dead on the third day, defeating death, sin, and Satan, so that all who believe in Him and call on His name shall be saved (John 3:16, Romans 10:13). We are saved by grace through faith in Christ.

This week on "Table Forty," Matt and Leslee move on to Week 5 of the "Discipleship Handbook," a 10-week plan from The Increase that examines some of the most important topics encompassing what it looks like to be a disciple of Jesus. This week they dive into the Gospel of God's Grace.

How do you define sin?

The word “sin” in the Bible means to miss the mark or fail to fulfill a certain goal. On a fundamental level, sin is failing to love and honor God and others as we were designed to. It distorts our view of God.

Sin is not just doing bad things (that is the fruit of sin), it goes deeper into the root of our hearts. Sin is a fundamental disorientation of our hearts turned away from God. It deadens our hearts and blinds our eyes to God and all His goodness and beauty. Sin is the selfish impulse to serve ourselves first, even at the expense of others.

This week on "Table Forty," Matt and Leslee Holliday move on to Week 4 of the "Discipleship Handbook," a 10-week plan from The Increase that examines some of the most important topics encompassing what it looks like to be a disciple of Jesus. This week's focus is on the problem of sin.

The week we move ahead to Week 3 of the "Table Forty" study through the "Discipleship Handbook," a 10-week plan from The Increase that examines some of the most important topics encompassing what it looks like to be a disciple of Jesus. This week we look at what it means to know the heart of God.

The most important thing about any person is his or her view of God, for it shapes the entire course of one’s life. And yet, God is so utterly distinct from and above us that we can never fully comprehend Him or know who He is according to our own reason or speculation.

So how then can we know Him? Listen in as Matt and Leslee dive into this week's study.

We're into Week 2 of the "Table Forty" Podcast study through the "Discipleship Handbook," a 10-week plan from The Increase that examines some of the most important topics encompassing what it looks like to be a disciple of Jesus. This week we look at what it means to be made in God's image.

In Genesis 1:26-28, we see that God created man and woman in His image, after His likeness, and gave them dominion over the earth. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it…” So what does it mean to be made in God’s image?

Dive in this week as Matt and Leslee Holliday discuss.

Matt and Leslee kick off their study through the "Discipleship Handbook," a 10-week study from The Increase that examines some of the most important topics encompassing what it looks like to be a disciple of Jesus. This week's study looks at "A High View of God."

In this opening week, we start at the very beginning in Genesis 1:1 and ponder God as the One True Almighty Creator — the main character in His story. We also focus on what we believe to be seven truths about God. Listen along as Matt and Leslee guide you through this first week, and as you listen, reflect on this question: Do you believe that God created the world and created you?

  • If not, what hinders this belief for you?
  • If so, how does this truth impact the way you think about the meaning and purpose of your life?

Daniel and Tori Murphy have been through a lot together — a 12-year baseball career, three children, and a couple breakups early on that brought both of them closer to Christ and each other. They joined Matt and Leslee to talk about all of that much more.

Throughout his 12-year major league career, Daniel was selected to three All-Star Games, won the Silver Slugger Award twice and was the 2015 National League Championship Series MVP with the New York Mets.

During his career, he and Tori were active in giving back to the communities where he played. In 2019 and 2020 when Daniel was with the Colorado Rockies, Tori organized an event with other Rockies player wives to help give prom dresses to foster children.

Episode 42

Dave Dravecky's story is one of finding hope, courage, and perseverance in the midst of deep uncertainty. In 1988, he was in the peak of his Major League Baseball career. Pitching for the San Francisco Giants, his Opening Day win was overshadowed later that season when doctors discovered cancer in his throwing arm and had to remove half of his deltoid muscle.

He came back a year later, defying significant odds. Despite being told by doctors, “Short of a miracle, you’ll never pitch again,” he pitched a 4-3 win against the Cincinnati Reds in his first start back, but sadly his comeback lasted just one more start.

In his next start against the Montreal Expos, his arm split in two. His career was done.

After his comeback and fall from the mound, the cancer returned. The arm refused to get better and he was forced to retire in November 1989. His arm, shoulder blade, and the left side of his collarbone had to be amputated for fear the cancer would spread and possibly take his life.

In this conversation, he and his wife Jan share stories of his career, the season in and around his cancer battle of career-ending injury, and how their faith has been shaped by all of it. It's become a platform for him to share his story of hope through suffering and how his faith in God has been strengthened.

Dave and Jan founded Endurance with Jan and Dave Dravecky, a nonprofit organization located in Colorado, and he's the author of "When You Can't Come Back."
