Life without meaningful companionship can make people feel oppressed;as if no one cares for them. When a person focuses on the world and what others do, we miss what is important. By faith we can approach God at any time. We can live and work in joy when we are conscious of the presence of our Lord.

Then the contrasts become very pointed as verse after verse is directed to all ages. We all need to choose wisdom and avoid foolishness.

The Christian worldview is that the value of our life is not measured by success or the accumulation of money. Our lives are designed by God for meaningful and significant relationships. Christian-thinking is far different than corporate thinking. Living eternal life now, with eternal objectives is satisfying to us and to God. Living by faith makes our approach to God and life, meaningful and joyful.

Have you felt a special type of encouragement during this time of pandemic?
The Lord often draws near and speaks to us through His word or through His people who minister the grace of Christ to us in dark times.
On six different occasions, the Lord shared special encouragement with the Apostle Paul. These coincide with times of unique testing.
Paul was telling his testimony and shared how he was preaching the gospel. The Lord spoke to him and told him:
"Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me... Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles." Acts 22:18b & 21.

In the time of pandemic, with all the lockdowns, quarantines, and restrictions that governments have implemented all over, there's a lot of negative news. It's important that we not lose sight of the positive side of life.
In this episode, we'll look at things that we can receive from the Lord at this time and they can be a deep blessing, lifting us above the discouragement, despondency, or the reality of loneliness.. Here are the Scripture references:
"Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 1:3
From Him comes our peace.
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures." James 1:17-18
From Him comes every good and perfect gift.
"And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high." Luke 24:49
From Him come the power to be the person that He intends us to be.
"For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him" Colossians 2:9-10a
From Him comes the nourishment of our souls. Everything that we need is supplied by the Lord Jesus, in whom we are complete.
"There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe." John 1:6-7
From Him comes our authority to testify in word and deed that we belong to Him- to speak for Him and to be a witness to the truth.
"These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full." John 15:11
From Him comes our own personal joy when we abide in Him.
"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another." 1 John 3:9-11
From Him comes the commandment that we are to love one another, and to do so in a way that we can show that the love we have for each other is real.

Have you ever asked yourself "what can I do for the Lord?"
You may feel limited by your age or a lack of talents, and this is a feeling that perhaps most people experience, if we're really honest.
The question should be about what we can do that will glorify the Lord, such that His name would be blessed.
This list of things we can do for Him is the second of three lists. The first one was things we can do unto Him, and the next one will be things we receive from Him.
Here are seven things we can do for Him:
"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples." John 15:7-8
The Lord is glorified when we bear fruit for Him, and we are a blessing to others at the same time.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:16
While as branches we bear fruit, as lights we illuminate the world around us. This also is a way to glorify God.
"And ye are witnesses of these things." Luke 24:48
As witnesses we are to testify for Him, sharing the reality of our relationship with God in the world.
"If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them." John 13:14-17
The Lord's instructions here represent the role of Christians to be servants of others, for the Lord. In our service of others we are glorifying to the Lord.
"Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;" 1 Peter 2:11
As pilgrims, in our abstaining from the fleshly lusts we put into action our recognition that those fleshly lusts war against our souls, which the Lord has redeemed. We can keep ourselves holy in this way, to be entirely for Him.
"Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier." 2 Timothy 2:3-4
There is opposition in this world. As we stand firm in our faith with the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6) for God, we glorify Him in this dark day.
"But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard." Matthew 21:28
We are workmen to build on the foundation stone, the chief cornerstone. We are helping to build the living Church, made up of people that the Lord has saved.

How do you handle unavoidable things that come into your life?
In the time of the pandemic we've each been faced with things that are new to us, and yet, these things are unavoidable. We don't like new things sometimes because it requires us to adapt, to make a change.
Take the example of the isolation which has accompanied the pandemic for many people. This time of less activity can be used to revisit some thoughts of meditation on the Lord, from which have emerged these thoughts.
Here are seven things that we do unto the Lord.
1. "The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be." Genesis 49:10
Does this apply even when we can't gather together in person?
"For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again." 1 Corinthians 5:14-15
What does it mean to "live unto Him" while in quarantine or self isolation?
"Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died." John 11:32
Mary spoke to the Lord in her time of grief, and we should remember that whatever the situation we find ourselves in, He cares and He is with us, so we know that we can pray unto Him.
"And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:" Matthew 5:1
The disciples came unto the Lord for teaching, and so must we, if we want to be faithful followers of the Lord Jesus.
"For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." 2 Timothy 1:12
Our commitment can be reviewed in a quiet time of reflection now in a unique way, because of the adjusted pace of life and normal activity that's come through the pandemic.
"Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died." John 11:32
Mary came to the Lord for consolation, and so should we if we want the Lord's comfort for our souls.
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
The Lord's invitation is that we come and lay down all of our burdens, let Him take them upon Himself, because He loves us and cares for us. We can find the rest of soul that we need without knowing what's going to happen tomorrow, or next week. We come to Him who knows us better than we know ourselves, for rest and wellbeing.

The two key verses are Matthew 1:1 and Matthew 27:37.
Matthew 1:1 - "The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham."
Matthew 27:37 - "And set up over his head his accusation written, This Is Jesus The King Of The Jews."
In Matthew 7, the Lord is the Builder who is building upon a rock, as he unfolds Kingdom teaching to His own. The Lord moves from the personal realm to how Kingdom principles apply and how Kingdom living is to be carried out.
A series of contrasts are used to illustrate what's important in the Kingdom of God and what it means to be a part of that Kingdom.

In the 400 years between the Old Testament and the New Testament, there was a lot of darkness among the Jews. Legalism, traditions, and religious structure had popped up.
The world of Judaism went through some developments where different sects became prominent, among them the Sadducees and the Pharisees. The land was subjugated by the Roman Empire, and the religious structure was made to be subservient to the Romans. This was the scene onto which John the Baptist and the Lord Jesus appeared.
Matthew opens with the credentials of the Lord Jesus as the King and continues to the Master and His disciples, the Church and His cross, and continues to the Gospel and the world at the end of the book.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 1 is Christ's legal right to be the King. Chapter 2 represents His prophetic right to be the King. In chapter 3 we see His divine right to be King. Chapter 4 represents His moral right to be the king. Chapters 5-7 are the judicial right for Him to be the King because He fulfilled the law, which is what will be addressed in this episode.

Matthew 11:28-30 says "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
The Lord Jesus taught His disciples how to reach people, we can see that in Matthew 9. He returned to Capernaum and there were people living there who had faith and full confidence in His healing power. Meanwhile, the people who had authority and power over people were exposed by the Lord's presence- the truth He spoke and the sincerity with which he dealt with people exposed the unreality and hypocrisy of the religious.
Think about the paralyzed man who nobody could help, except for bringing him to the Lord Jesus. The Lord proved His authority to forgive sins by showing His authority over the physical condition of this man, forgiving his sins and healing him.
Who would have thought that a leader in the community would come and kneel before the Lord Jesus, asking that his daughter would be saved?
The final measurement of any work is based on the place that the Lord Jesus has in it. The joy of the Lord is our strength, not the numbers. There will always be people who criticize the work of God- some people may do so out of jealousy, others out of spite. Some have preconceived religion-based ideas about how God has to work and cannot accept the fact that they might be wrong.
We don't have the right to condemn them, but just to continue on and leave it with the Lord. The harvest is still there and the need is still great. We continue on in obedience to the instructions that the Lord had passed on to His disciples, on how they could be participants in the kingdom- how they could be involved, not just observers. We should intend to do the same.

Is there anybody in your life that you hold a bitter spirit towards?
Joseph was a remarkable man in that he never held a bitter spirit towards anybody. We also see that Jacob was not overtaken with bitterness when he discovered the wrongdoing of his own family.
Hebrews 12:14-15 NIV
"Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many."
Sometimes it's possible to settle down in comfort and wonder what we're doing in this world in the first place. The life of one who's living for God and one who's living for success in this world's system are totally incompatible. Bitterness is one of these aspects which show we have a root that's deep into this world's system.

How do you respond to circumstances in your life, whether good or bad?
Do you allow them to control you or overcome you? Or do you take control of them yourselves?
If we set our hearts on success and material gain, we no longer have our focus on the heavenly realm. What's the practical way to live out this focus on what's eternal? This is what will be discussed in this episode.
The ongoing commitment to obedience and service to God, unwavering during dark and immoral times where the world would have us move toward a life of sin, or becoming occupied with the things of the world.
My responsibility is to keep what I'm doing for Him, and to keep on doing it in a righteous and honourable way, even when things in my life don't seem to fit with what we're expecting.
Interpretations belong to God. I'm called to trust Him. Joseph did that, among all the difficulties that he faced in his life of obedience to God.

Are you a person who's overly sensitive, and who gets upset easily?
Joseph had a lot of opportunity to be upset. Instead, he left the wrongdoings of his brothers to be judged by God, who brought his brothers to the stage of repentance. There are lessons in Joseph's life of repentance and forgiveness.
Although we sometimes become confused when we don't understand what God is doing in our lives, when we leave it to the Lord we demonstrate our trust in Him. If we forgive others for their wrongdoing, we may even look into our lives and find areas where we also need to repent.

It's our responsibility now to stand fast in the Lord and not get sidetracked by the world. Consider the value of a soul. This should be front of mind for anybody undertaking an effort to further the gospel.
Paul takes consideration of the price that he personally paid, suffering for the sake of the gospel, and in Philippians 1 he points out how his suffering for the sake of the gospel had enabled others to go out with the message of salvation.
Was his suffering worth it, if a single soul was saved? Paul absolutely thought so!
Take for example the imprisonment of Paul- a boatload of people heard the gospel because Paul was being transported in that ship, and the population of an island heard the gospel because of that trip, too!
God calls all of us as believers to reach out to our communities and the world, taking up the responsibility of sharing the gospel. We can expect it to cost us something- but we are assured that it is a worthwhile endeavor.

Some Christians don't take much time to study the Old Testament, but we read in the Scriptures that things that were written in the Old Testament are recorded for our learning. When we think of the man of Abram in Genesis, how the Lord assured him of the blessing and protection that God was providing as he moved forward in obedience. He had faith in God, that things would turn out just as God had promised.
It can be convicting to think about the example we have of faith in Abram and how we often focus on ourselves, not taking God's promises into account. Some things that God has promised to do, we need to be willing to leave to God, while we focus on the responsibilities that God has given to us.
There are times when we are more tempted to take things into our own hands, and we need to be aware of the danger that lies within our own hearts which are susceptible to self-reliance instead of relying on God.
We also have some perversion in our heart that causes us to look for something to do, some rules to follow, such as the Law, rather than continuing to live by faith.
Sometimes God also asks things of us- often the things we love most dearly. He did this with Abraham as well. What's dearest to me is often even more dear to God, and I have to be willing to give these things to God. Whether He keeps it or gives it back, that is entirely His prerogative.
The example of the man of faith in Genesis 15 can give us all of these things to think about.
