Once described as "an ancient and powerful open source dragon," Aeva Black is a dot-com veteran, an open source hacker, and a queer and non-binary geek. They work in the Azure Office of the CTO to improve the state of open source software supply chain security, and to support teams working on cloud security and digital privacy. Back in 2012, they launched OpenStack's Bare Metal Cloud program, enabling performance-sensitive cloud native workloads to run without a hypervisor.
Aeva currently serves on the Board of the Open Source Initiative, the non-profit which stewards the definition of "open source", and works within several other foundations including the Confidential Computing Consortium and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation.
Aeva is a lifelong student of the buddha dharma and an advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights. They served for several years on the Board of the Consent Academy, a Seattle-area educational non-profit, and were recently published in Transcending, an anthology of trans buddhist authors.

Lenny began his career with RRE Ventures in New York where he shaped the firm’s enterprise investment thesis and backed companies including Datadog and WhipTail Technologies (acquired by Cisco). He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School where he was a founding partner of Rock Venture Partners, a student-led seed investment fund, and a B.S. from UC Berkeley.

Darren's Official Bio Darren is a co-founder and Chief Architect of Rancher Labs. Prior to Rancher, Darren was Sr. Principal Engineer at Citrix where he worked on CloudStack, OpenStack, Docker and building the next generation of infrastructure orchestration technology. She was a startup founder featured at TechCrunch Disrupt and started her career at Google.

Ahmet Alp Balkan is a senior software engineer at Google Cloud, on cloud-native technologies: Kubernetes/GKE and Cloud Run. Ahmet went from an intern at Microsoft (even designing their badges) all the way to being the driving force behind a lot of well known cloud native technologies and open source tools such as kubectx, kubens, krew, and Cloud Run. We discuss his work on probably one of the best examples in the world of a working microservice deployment that google now uses as its flagship demo tool to show the power of Kubernetes. We round out the discussion with his work on Krew, Krew is the plugin manager for kubectl command-line tool. Krew helps you: 1) discover kubectl plugins,2) install them on your machine, and 3) keep the installed plugins up-to-date.
In the latter part of the episode, Ahmet was raised in Turkey and we discussed Turkish cuisine as well as his passion for Italian cuisine. In Turkish, "Alp" means "hero" , Ahmet is a hero to all of us and i could not be happier with the episode and how open and brilliant Ahmet is. Ahmet's impact on Kubernetes tooling cannot be understated and I am so glad we got to do this.
