What is a Bank Shot? . Twenty percent more effective than the "swish," the bank shot is a shot technique in basketball where the ball hits, or "banks" off the backboard before touching the rim or going into the basket. Life has it's own bank shots. In "The Bank Shot with Gene Banks," we will look, not only at the biggest shots and moments in the careers of all-time greats, but we will examine which bank shots these competitors have taken in their life, and illuminate the blueprint that you can take in your own journey of life.

Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina-ROBERT BRICKEY became Mr. Basketball of North Carolina and went on to Duke University, playing for Coach K’s early teams that went on to three Final Fours. He was the captain of the Duke basketball team, that played in the 1990 NCAA Championship game. His after life from playing, Brickey went on to coach at three HBCU basketball programs. Now a financial builder, he has moved mountains and has continued to be one of Duke’s all-time Unsung Heroes.

This is Part II of this extraordinary journey that of Nevil Shed and the Texas Western University basketball team. His "Road To Glory" continues on in this second part of a two part series. In these times (60's) the Civil Rights Movement was in swing and this team went on to be the 1966 NCAA Champions, with five black players starting. This action displayed, transformed the future of college basketball and college athletics. The motion picture industry made a picture of this historic journey called- "Glory Road ". Nevil Shed will share more of his and the team's journey and the making of the picture, in this Part II.
Nevil Shed, Bronx born of the Big Apple, was a recipient of an athletic scholarship, that brought him from the north to the south (NCA&T) He then transferred to Texas Western University, where his "Road To Glory" began. Playing against the powerhouse all-white-University of Kentucky, coached by the late legendary- Adolph Rupp in the NCAA Championship game. In these times (60's) the Civil Rights Movement was in swing and Rupp was known to not favor African-Americans(putting it lightly) This team went on to be the 1966 NCAA Champions, with five black players starting, and transforming the future of college athletics. A motion picture was made of this historic ride and event called "Glory Road ". This will be a two-part episode.
Martin Alphonzo Wood, A high school PARADE and MCDONALD'S All-American of the best players in America in 1977. Played under the late iconic UNC coach-Dean Smith, was instrumental in the successes of the Tarheel basketball program. Played with UNC/ACC greats- Sam Perkins, Jimmy Black and James Worthy. Drafted number four overall in the 1981 NBA draft, he played for four NBA teams (Atlanta, Seattle, San Diego & Dallas) but his story is more vast and amazing through his trails and tribulation with alcoholism and the lifestyle of the NBA and his trials with his own personal challenges.
Vince Taylor was without a doubt, one of Duke's most gifted players in their history. Known as the "Prince", because of his daring looks and the admiration from females fans nationwide. He helped to continue to build the Duke basketball brand, where Duke was number one in the country (twice) and he lead the ACC in scoring, as the scoring champion in his senior year under Coach K. He was the sole reason of Duke's ACC Championship game theatrics against Maryland and was known for his speed, I.Q and love of the game and Duke. The Prince will be forever known for his abilities and dedication to the Brotherhood of Duke Basketball.

In his adversity, it made him take a different direction and he became a world respected teacher, trainer and coach. A champion in many countries. Scott Fields, knew what was most important- FAMILY & PEOPLE.
From Havertown, to Broad Street, to the NBA. At age twenty-six, he became a professional NBA official. Starting officiating at the high school level, seeing some of the best high school players in the nation (Philly) and then onto the Sonny Hill/Charles Baker League. Officiating the likes of- Earl Monroe, Fly Williams, World B. Free, Darryl Dawkins, Kenny Durrett, Joe Bryant (Kobe's Dad) Andre McCarter and Larry Cannon, to name few. Earned his right of hard work, into the National Basketball Association, where he officiated Greats like- Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Doctor J, Kareem Abdul Jabaar and Larry Bird. His journey is one to embrace and admire. A true family man with love for all people.
Representing the 1984 USA Olympic Swimming team, winning three gold medals and one silver medal, this Iowa City girl, has been a fighter and a worker in athletics and in women's rights. Even in a tragic experience, while at Duke, She brought herself from the depths of numbness, to go forward and be the the champion that she is...in her fight for justice.
Rick Mahorn's drive for 'Excellence', coming from Hartford, Connecticut, going South to the historically-HBCU-Hampton Institute University. Then being drafted and eventually coined as-'The Baddest of the Detroit Pistons "Bad Boys", helping them win the NBA Championship. Later, coaching in the WNBA and winning two championships, along with fellow Pistons teammate- Bill Laimbeer.
Raised in the streets of North Philly, Like Michael Jordan, being cut from a team, but never giving up and working even harder, to gain respect. Maurice "Mo" Howard, although quiet in nature, made loud noise, when he ventured to the University of Maryland, started, and played in, what is considered, the greatest ACC Championship game in the conference history. Many youth in Philly saw this, and he was the city's pride.
Ray "Chink" Scott, NBA Great-Player & Coach, who, now prefers to not be called Chink, for terminologies of race concepts, Strived for excellence, playing against the greatest players in the NBA of his era (Wilt Chamberlain) Then went on to be NBA Coach of the Year honors, wth the Detroit Pistons. He shares is life journey and gives history fo the game-then and now.
Lindsey Harding- born in the south of Alabama, raised in Houston, matriculated to a highly acclaimed academic institution, graduated, and went on to the highest level of play , nationally and international. Now, is mentoring and coaching men, in the NBA. A true amazing female, that has made history, on and off the court.
