In Episode 37 of the Lockie Skinner Show Podcast we yarn with Coffs Harbour well respected Elder, Aunty Sue Hoskins about the recently announced change from the Aunty Grace Roberts Community Development Awards Night to Yandaarra Aboriginal Community Awards.

The Aunty Grace Roberts Community Development Awards have been running for 20 Years in honour of a Women that worked tirelessly for the Coffs Harbour Community.

Aunty Sue fought for Aunty Grace to be acknowledged through these awards over 20 years ago and every year we recognise people that go above and beyond for Aboriginal People in the Coffs Harbour Area.

Just recently Council announced their intentions to change the name of the Awards Night to "Yandaarra Aboriginal Community Awards".

Council did NOT Consult with us and we don't agree with this and our Community have started a petition against this name change.

In episode 19 of the Lockie Skinner Show Podcast we put the Show on hold for a very important cause.

Homelessness is an ongoing problem all over the world.

🥳🎁 Please help us raise a few extra dollars to help our people that are living on the streets.

As you could imagine Social Distancing and Self Isolation would be very difficult if you was homeless. These times are stressful for me I couldn’t imagine how those on the streets would be feeling.

I know there is no quick fix to homelessness. This Fundraising is only the beginning. There really needs to be some serious conversation. But in the meantime we can do our bit to making life a little bit easier for people that we know, our mob that are currently homeless.

Did you know!

👉🏽 52% of Coffs Harbour’s Homeless Population is Aboriginal People... Crazy! and this is why I have made it my business.

👉🏽 The Council has closed Public Toilets, Showers and BBQ Areas from the Public. Why does this matter? Well if you was in a position of being homeless where else are you going to go to the Toilet, Shower, Cook?

I want to give a huge shout out to Pete’s Place Coffs Harbour and the Coffs Neighbourhood Centre! Their efforts are amazing and the conversations we have had over the last week have been short but they have given me the opportunity to assist and share their experiences with me. They inspire me! Their strength, their will and their commitment is just incredible!

I know these times during COVID-19 aren’t easy on anyone. But if you are able to assist our mob that are currently on the streets with a feed for the night or a few nights it would be greatly appreciated.

The services mentioned above have kindly provided me with a list of items that you may like to supply instead of cash, these items include:

👉🏽 Foods like Microwave Rice, UHT Milk, Small Cereal Boxes, Flour, Eggs, Teabags, Biscuits and Ring Pull Cans.

👉🏽 Little Gas Stoves, Saucepans, and Pots.

👉🏽 Insect Spray

👉🏽 Tarps

👉🏽 Foil for cook on the Fire

👉🏽 Camp Chairs

If you have any of the above and would like to donate please contact and drop to the Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre.

This isn’t about my Birthday. This is about those people sleeping rough tonight 😢.

$10, $20, $50 could go along way! And could feed a lot of people. Your assistance at this time would help so many people.

Thank you in advance 🥰

I wanted to make this short podcast as a message to the public in response to the crisis that we as people on this planet are currently facing.

This Podcast is to send out a message of concern. A message for community consideration.

I would like to note the hard work and ongoing commitment from supermarkets and the health sector at this time. Yes these people do get paid but they are coping a lot of hate at the moment.

I would like to say thank you.

The COVID-19 is Life at the Moment. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about that. But there is a Light at the end of the Tunnel. If you can’t see it yet that’s ok because I can’t either but it is there somewhere.

We need to work together, support one another and reassure each other that we will get through this.

Have a great day, and Remember be kind to one another.
