Combining sound business strategy, introspection and yoga philosophy to help yoga teachers teach with passion, earn a fair living and avoid burn out.
In today’s episode, we’re looking six important things to check when you start working at a yoga studio:
✅ What is the policy if someone comes to your class with an injury
✅ What is the policy if someone comes to your class when pregnant
✅ The invoicing and payment terms
✅ How to get cover for your classes
✅ How to get consent for physical adjustments
✅ What’s the policy on promoting your own yoga offerings?
At the risk of stating the obvious, this doesn’t include things like checking when your classes are, if there’s a notice period etc etc. Those things are for a contract, which is a legal document and not really fit for a podcast.
However, I do believe that the six things on this list are really important to check to help you in your quest for stress free teaching, and they are often overlooked.
Oh and guess what, you lucky thing, we’ve created a free checklist so you don’t have to keep all of this in your head! You’re welcome! Get yours here.

Being a yoga teacher is a funny thing. It is rewarding beyond words, no doubt about that. But it can be lonely.
Yes, you spend a lot of time with people. These people are your yoga students, your customers, your yogis.
But we don’t have colleagues, not really. We don’t have a line manager for advice and guidance, or a HR department.
But we are people, we are workers, we are small business owners and sometimes we just need some advice, some guidance, or someone to bounce ideas off!
So, introducing: daft questions.
Ask us what you would ask your line manager, your HR department or your best work buddy if you had one. Ask us the things you wished you’d asked in your teacher training, or that you’d ask your coach if you could afford one on an ongoing basis.
There’s two golden rules for each and every question:
it’ll be answered to the best of our ability
there’s never any judgement
So simply make a note or your qs when they come to mind and join us on Instagram on the first Wednesday morning of each month to ask your daft questions
Oh and just a heads up - there’s really no such thing as a daft question.
See you Wednesday 5th Feb!

This episode is amazing definitions of fascia for yoga teachers.
But the plural; definitions, is a little confusing right!? Well, there is still an element of confusion and an element of evolution of exactly what the terms fascia and the fascial system mean.
That aside, this episode looks at definitions and explanations of fascia according to some extremely wise experts, and we briefly explore why these are important to bear in mind as yoga teachers.

Private yoga sessions are unique in that you can use your time, knowledge and focus all on one person. You don’t have to keep the rest of a class running while you help one person with their alignment or their pain.
Next week, we’ll look at how to get private yoga bookings from your group classes, in a way that’s not susceptible to imposter syndrome and totally beneficial to both you and the potential client, so tune in next week for that.
But anyway, back to the koshas. This is where we’re going in today’s episode:
A quick refresher of the five koshas
Using the Koshas as a framework for your Private Sessions
* Using the kosha system to really help your private yoga clients
See the shownotes here
When working one-on-one, the kosha system gives you a framework to tailor your sessions to the student’s needs holistically, and this is something that you can work through methodically, making sure that your private yoga clients are always getting a hugely beneficial and well-rounded session. While we definitely don’t want people to be struggling to pay for sessions with us, it is nice to have a valid reason to keep clients coming back to you, and working with all the layers of the koshas can certainly be that very valid reason.
If you’d love to learn more about the overlaps between fascia and energetic anatomy, this training is for you
If you’d love to learn more about Yoga Nidra (or even just see what it’s like to practice two gorgeous Yoga Nidra’s a day), then this training is for you

Last week’s episode was all about understanding the koshas, and today, we’re taking that up a level, looking at layering your yoga asana classes with this understanding of the koshas.
This is where we’re going;
A review of what the koshas are
How to work with each kosha in your yoga asana classes
Make sure you bookmark this episode, as it’ll serve as a guide for anytime you’re low on inspiration, or looking for a way to work with someone who’s struggling a bit with asana, this is where working with the kosha model is so empowering and so full of potential, because you’ve got four other routes to be able to work with this person, and to help them. You could work with their breath and / or their energy. You could use a ‘top-down’ approach, working with the mental body, with intention, or mindfulness techniques. You could guide them to connect with their inner wisdom, and you could guide them to connect with a sense of their inner peace. SO much potential, SO much inspiration.
Enjoy, yoga teachers!

"Any intervention on the fascia is also an intervention on the autonomic nervous system"
- Staubesand in 2003
This podcast episode is inspired by a yoga research session held this week on The Base, which looked at studies investigating the nature of the relationships between fascia and how the nervous system reads stress and pain, which was really interesting from a whole-person holistic perspective; in that someone’s pain or chronic stress can potentially be altered through working with the fascia - I mean wowza!
See the shownotes here
In this episode, we cover:
- A brief history of fascia
- What fascia actually is, even though it’s proving pretty difficult to define!
- How the nervous system and the fascia interact with each other and live alongside each other, and affect each other
- How this helps you, as a yoga teacher, teach yoga
If you want to watch the Yoga Research session on The Base, you can catch it here - use code COMMUNITY for 25% off your first three months.
This episode is a sliver taken from our super exciting 300-hour yoga teacher training module: Myofascial Release, Energetic Anatomy and Yin Yoga is designed to deeply explore two important but often unexplored areas of yoga; the fascia and energetic anatomy, and the unique relationship these two share.
Both fascial anatomy and energetic anatomy have a huge impact on our physical and mental wellbeing. This training will break down what fascia is, how it impacts our physical and mental health, and how to use this knowledge to create a rewarding and therapeutic practice for ourselves and our yogis, before exploring yoga’s subtle energy; prana, nadis, chakras and prana vayus and the role of prana in understanding holistic health. We’ll then go on to understand the relationship between movement, myofascial release, energetic anatomy and how we feel.
Expect to graduate with a whole host of options now at your disposal to layer on to your classes, feeling inspired and ready to teach what you’ve learned, and to integrate learnings in to your own practice for your own wellbeing.

This episode looks at some of the ways that stress can impact the brain. In the interests of full disclosure - this episode might seem a bit doom and gloom, as it focuses on the impacts on the brain of stress. However, if you join the free workshop: Understand WHY yoga works: Yoga's role in stress reduction - that’ll be the light at the end of the gloomy tunnel!
In this episode, we cover:
All of this information is taken from, and inspired by our Yoga and the Neurobiology of Stress module coming up in June 2025 - so if you’ve had your eye on that training, or you wish you could have a sneaky peek in to our 300 hour training - well there you go!
See the shownotes here
The pre-frontal cortex
The pre-frontal cortex is a major brain structure that affects thought, insight and emotion. When it’s in full working order it helps to assess situations and suggest useful ways to plan and respond to these situations. However being in a stressed state can take the pre-frontal cortex offline, and even reduce the size of it.
Amygdala
You might have heard the of the amygdala as the brain’s smoke detector and that’s exactly right. When a smoke detector detects smoke, it sets off an alarm. When the amygdala detects danger; i.e. a stressor, it sets of the internal danger alarms; the Sympathetic Nervous System and the HPA axis.
In anxious states, and this is super important - the amygdala becomes enlarged and hypersensitive.
Telomeres
Our genetic information is stored in chromosomes, which duplicate again and again and again. At the end of the chromosomes are telomeres, which are there to protect the information. The thing is that stress can cause the telomeres to shorten, which then means that the information in the chromosome might be copied incorrectly, and the impact of this on a person’s health could be huge.
So I did say that it might be a bit doom and gloom, so please yoga teacher, come join me for the light at the end of the tunnel - I promise it’s just absolutely inspiring HOW MUCH yoga helps mitigate the impact of stress.
See you ther

Struggle with low confidence and self-doubt? Try the free Shatter Imposter Syndrome challenge
As yoga teachers, we know that stress is an epidemic; it affects almost everyone we meet, and it has a profound impact on their lives.
We so often talk about the sympathetic nervous system; the fight or flight response and how that impacts physical and mental health, but we don’t often talk about the HPA axis, and its profound impact on health…
It got me thinking - why is that?
After some informal research, I realised that this is because yoga teachers don’t really understand what the HPA axis is, or why it’s important to understand as a yoga teacher.
So - this episode is all about why it’s important to understand the HPA axis as a yoga teacher.
We’re starting with an overview of what the HPA axis is; and don’t forget I’ll go into more detail on our free workshop, we’ll look at what cortisol is and take a quick look at the impact of cortisol on the body, and finally, we’ll investigate why yoga is such a powerhouse in managing the impact of stress on mind and body.
Coming up: super duper free workshop:
Un-stress: The yoga tonic
This workshop is part of my mission to educate yoga teachers to understand WHY yoga works. Why yoga is helping people manage their autoimmune disorders. Why, people say, I always sleep so well after yoga! Why the Washington Post said yoga may help protect against cognitive decline. I think as yoga teachers, we know it works. We know why we practice yoga, and why we teach it.
And - wonderfully - the evidence base is starting to catch up, and I’m really really exciting to share this with you.
There will be some science, but my style of teaching is to make sure I’m only teaching what I really truly believe is useful, I break it down into manageable chunks, and I repeat it so you can be sure it goes in.
So, whether you’re deeply in love with internal human anatomy or it quite frankly scares you, I promise, this workshop is for you!
I can’t wait to see you there.
Big love,
Holly

If you’ve ever received an enquiry for a private yoga lesson, and your first thought is ‘Oh no, how much am I going to charge?’, well, yoga teacher, you most certainly aren’t on your own.
“How much should I charge for….” must be the question I (Holly, hi by the way!) have been asked the most over the ten or so years that I have been working with yoga teachers, so you are most certainly not on your own!
The good news is that defining a pricing structure is actually pretty simple, and once it’s done, it’s done forever!
And the great news is that over on The Base, we have a pricing matrix template ready for you to put your numbers in, and it’ll pop out your pricing matrix for you. Boom!
The episode is everything you need to create a pricing matrix that ensures all your costs are covered, that you’re priced in-line with similar offerings in your area (if you want to be), and how to keep the matrix accessible for future you.

One of the three values that underpin For Yoga Teachers is ‘avoiding burn out’; and there’s one key way to do that: Have a consistent personal yoga practice. However, when you’re a busy yoga teacher, and you have a busy life, sometimes there just isn’t the time for a consistent practice alongside everything else that you need to do!
BUT, having a consistent yoga practice is SO important that we’ve even created a whole retreat dedicated to nurturing your self-practice, which is being held in Ibiza (whhooo!!) this September. Take a look at this wonderful week here:
In this episode we look at:
As ever, the episode is completely practical; taking the many spinning plates of life in to account.

This ep is taken from a super important masterclass held recently on The Base:
How to boost your short term yoga income.
Now many of our trainings for yoga teachers at Yoga Hero are £400... So I thought rather than talking about generating extra income in a hypothetical way, wouldn't it be great to have a figure to work towards, so, how about £400?!
There's four suggested methods of boosting your short term yoga income.
Within each of the four methods, we'll look at:
- the general requirements so that you can determine what you already have in place, and as such, which method is going to be the easiest for you to implement.
common barriers, including mindset
next steps so that you can just follow the step-by-step to boost your income
how to hit 400 pounds with each method!
In the interest of a disclaimer and full disclosure. I haven't taken into account any costs and there are no guarantees. You have to do the work. Some methods may work better for you than others, or they may not work at all. (Hopefully they will.)

Before we dive in, let’s be clear that the only thing that will help you build your confidence offering physical adjustment in your classes is: getting experience offering physical adjustments in your classes. 😂🤦♀️
There’s no shortcuts unfortunately!
However, twice a year at Yoga Hero, we hold half day workshop to go through the stages of offering adjustments to yogis and then loads of time to practice under the watchful eye of our trainers, to give you the experience that you need to be able to feel confident offering adjustments
The next workshop is 23rd June, held at Yoga Hero in Leeds and you are welcome even if you’ve never offered single physical adjustment before your entire life! You can expect to learn the stages of offering a physical adjustment, how to read people to see how the adjustment is landing on them and plenty of opportunity to practice practice practice.
The Art of Yoga Adjustments Workshop - take a look
So this is where we’re going:
We’re actually starting with a look at what confidence is, which might seem really obvious, but it’s actually quite interesting when you start to break it down
Then we’ll look at ways to get confident giving Yoga adjustments
We’ll look at the stages of giving physical yoga adjustments, including getting consent.
Finally will look at how to get feedback to check that the assumptions that you’ve made about the adjustment were correct
Boom!

Introducing Sanskrit in to your yoga classes can be daunting for all the reasons we talked about in episode 41, which was ‘Should yoga teachers use Sanskrit?’
However, it doesn’t have to be daunting. (Promise!)

One of the things that frustrates me endlessly about teaching yoga is:
"Yoga is so beneficial, it should be accessible to absolutely everyone!"
Vs
"Don’t teach for free! You’ll undervalue yoga!"
This episode explores the question:
Should yoga teachers care about money?

This episode is exploring the answer, your individual answer, to the question: Should yoga teachers demo while teaching?
We’ll look at some reasons to demo, some reasons not to demo, and a few things to bear in mind overall.
Demoing, for many yoga teachers, takes a lot of the fear around teaching. Your body does the pose and that facilitates how you find the language to guide your yogis in to the pose. But, cultivating the skill to teach verbally only can be really really useful.
Enjoy!

This episode is essentially the epitome of this whole podcast: When we boil it down, it’s teaching what you love and making a fair living from that. Teaching yoga should pay your rent, it should put food on the table, it should pay all the bills and leave a little left over for a buffer or a rainy day or savings… This episode breaks down the ways that you can bring Yoga Nidra in to your offerings and your teachings to benefit you and your yogis.
We’ll be looking at different ways to share and charge for Yoga Nidra, how much to charge for Yoga Nidra and some general inspiration too.
Enjoy!

There’s so many things that we want to do as yoga teachers; including keep a steady practice going for ourselves and add to our knowledge and ability to keep our offerings absolutely great for our yogis (and all our other roles and responsibilities too!)…
This episode addresses the barriers to setting up and executing a regular Yoga Nidra practice, and - spoiler alert - it’s basically a repeating reminder to be kind to yourself. To refine that balance of the discipline, the tapas of setting goals and sticking to them, whilst layering in an understanding that life is busy, so how can we work with the busy in the most effective and enjoyable way.
Here’s what we’re looking at:

This episode is a very special episode - it’s a Yoga Nidra for yoga teachers.
But this is a yoga nidra with a difference. This special Yoga Nidra is designed to help you learn about Yoga Nidra whilst practising Yoga Nidra! You might - hopefully you will - be so relaxed that you feel like you’re not consciously taking the information in; like you’re not paying attention.
But trust us, you will be.
Trust that, the more you relax and let go, the more impactful the Yoga Nidra will be and the more you’ll learn all about it; for you, and for your yogis.
Enjoy!

Some wonderful journalling prompts for after your next Yoga Nidra practice - and remember - we're not worrying about spelling or sentence structure, just write, write, write!:

Is there a recurring pattern that is caused by being asleep?

This episode is about the power of Yoga Nidra.
We’ll start off with an introduction to Yoga Nidra, before looking at Yoga Nidra’s relationship to yoga philosophy. We’ll then dive in to the understanding Yoga Nidra’s impact on the brain wave states, and we’ll finish with a summary of the benefits in the context of everything that we’ve just learned.
Yoga Nidra is such an underrated, powerful, impactful practice. Yoga Nidra, “yogic sleep” is a powerful practice that guides participants into a state of deep relaxation while maintaining a state of heightened awareness. Through systematic and guided meditation, Yoga Nidra leads practitioners into the realm between wakefulness and sleep, allowing them to access a vast reservoir of inner knowledge and healing potential.
Yoga Nidra is well known for being a guided relaxation; the Queen of all repose, a nap, even a substitute for sleep itself. And it is all of those things.
The thing is; it’s all of those things and much, much more.
As yoga teachers, it’s likely that we’ll attract people to the practice of Yoga Nidra through expounding on the benefit of rest and relaxation, and as such, that’s where much of our focus will lie.
However, as yoga teachers it is important that we understand and embody the knowledge that **Yoga Nidra is a secret door to liberation.

Our last episode; episode 35 was entitled ‘how to become a full time yoga teacher’, and I was acutely aware that the yoga teaching landscape looked so different when I made the leap a decade ago, than it does now, and I thought it might be useful to dig a bit deeper.
So, if you’re not bothered about my story, and to be honest I wouldn’t blame you - this isn’t the episode for you and I’ll see you next time.

This episode is all about how to become a full time yoga teacher, starting with a quick look at whether it’s right for you. Many people have a really romantic notion of what it’s like to be a full time yoga teacher but - while it can be an incredibly rewarding job, it is important to walk in to it with your eyes well open about the realities. There’s a harsh truth in there too, how lovely.
Then we look at how to determine if now is the right time, or indeed, when the ‘right time’ is for you, including one of my favourite things - a ‘what if it all goes completely wrong’ plan.
The good news is that you can follow these steps without actually making the leap and quitting your job, so, enjoy listening, get inspired, and at the end, you’ll be able to consider an informed decision as to your next steps!

This episode is focusing on balancing having a job and teaching yoga; including being really honest about what happens if and when these conflict, mindfully switching roles (I talked about the importance of this last week in episode 33: balancing parenting and teaching yoga), making sure that there is actually enough time for everything that you want to do, and what yoga philosophy says to help us prioritise.

Now that so many of us have the office in our pocket, the days stretch sneakily beyond 9 - 5, the weight of work weighs heavily and there always seems like there’s loads to do. This is a problem, there’s no doubting it. But what about when you have a second job of teaching yoga? Teaching yoga demands that you be at your best; inspired, energetic, clear and concise, physically able. And so - this could create a conflict.
Your job demands a lot of you. Teaching yoga demands a lot of you.
You’re not on your own, yoga teacher. This episode is designed to help you prioritise the elements and roles of your life in a way that will make you feel great. Oh and there’s a little side helping of harsh truth too (sorry).
Enjoy! And remember, yoga teacher, you’re doing a great job.

This episode is about balancing being a parent, and being a yoga teacher.
Expect some food for thought about how you can manage and balance your unique set of circumstances, some tools and tricks and tips for balancing the demands of being a parent and a yoga teacher, and how to look after yourself in amongst all of this: how to prioritise, how to know when things are hitting the fan, and we’ll finish up some tools to ease the parent guilt.
Throughout the episode I'm using the term 'parent', but please substitute this with how you identify, you might be a hopeful parent, a step-parent, a grandparent, a carer, a care-giver in any and all forms. You are so included, I'm just using 'parent' for clarity and efficiency.
Just a heads up, too, that next week’s episode is balancing a job and teaching yoga, so that might be useful, albeit ever so slightly repetitive for you if you have a job as well as parent and teach yoga.
Before we jump in, can we take a moment to recognise how both roles are caring roles; giving the best of you so that others; yogis and offspring, can access the best of themselves, and it really is commendable.
From my heart to yours, one of the things that has helped so much is consciously switching roles from parent to yoga teacher, and back again. So much so, that I've created a meditation to help you, get yours here 💜

You're a yoga teacher because yoga has improved your life - possibly immeasurably - and you have a desire, a need, to share that with others.
Whilst asana is a hugely important part of yoga, it's not the full story, and as such, as yoga teachers, sharing the full story; the roots and the history of yoga, is probably part of the job. But it's not necessarily a part of the job that comes easily, that's covered in yoga teacher trainings, that's even accessible...
Well, this podcast episode aims to change that. It's full of practical tips to layer your asana classes with yoga philosophy, to weave in themes and wisdom without having to be fluent in Sanskrit, without having to be completely knowledgable about the entire history of yoga. Basically, we're aiming to take the reservations and fears out of sharing the fullness of what yoga is, whilst also deeply respecting yoga and all its roots.

This episode is the answer to the question: Do I need a yoga brand?
Does this sound familiar?: You start practising yoga initially for a reason; to de-desk, to rehabilitate an injury, to feel calmer. You were so blown away by how much yoga improves your life, you have a calling to share that with others. You enroll on a yoga teacher training, and it quite simply changes your life. Now you're even more motivated than ever to share yoga with others!
So now you.... what?
Contact studios to see if there's any openings. Look around your local area to rent somewhere to start your own classes. Start teaching online. People come to your classes, but not loads of people, and you would like to reach more people.... but HOW?! So you start to do some research; maybe with some yoga business blogs, or this podcast, or by talking to your fellow yoga teachers and they say, have you got a website? Have you done any advertising on instagram? Have you thought about flyering or starting an enewsletter or working with this person or that company, and then, you're stuck!! Bah!! This all sounds like running a business rather than sharing yoga. Plus, you just don't know where to start.
If that sounds familiar, it's because it is familiar, because it happens a lot!!! Don't worry, we're here to help. Over the next few episodes, we're taking the guesswork out of where to place your valuable resources of time, energy and mental bandwidth and helping you to decide where to focus, who to work with and what to prioritise.
And we're starting with the bazillion dollar question - do i need a yoga brand?Check out our show notes for this episode here

A little while ago, on our Yoga Hero Teachers Instagram account, we asked yoga teachers what tips they wish they'd known when starting out teaching... This episode is a combination of those responses, plus the questions and advice we get asked most regularly.
This episode is primarily aimed at new yoga teachers, but there's bound to be some inspiration and food for thought, for experienced yoga teachers too - we all know that going back to basics and having a beginner's mind is a really important part of crafting your teaching!
We start off with sequencing tips - because nailing your sequencing and building confidence seem to be the biggest sources of frustration for new yoga teachers, and then we move on to some practical teaching tips and self-care tips too.
Above all, our biggest tip is to look after yourself. Never put your needs at the bottom of the pile; you know how you're told to put your oxygen mask on before someone else's, on a plane - well that. You're able to give the most of yourself and the best of yourself, when you're looking after yourself.

Have you ever been to a yoga class, and the sequence was so great, that you left the class thinking, I would love to be known for my sequencing. Then, you listen to a podcast about yoga philosophy, and you think, I should really weave more philosophy in to my classes, that's definitely where I should be putting my focus. Then you're chatting to someone, and they tell you how they went to the most amazing yin class, and left feeling like they were walking on air, and you thought, I really want to be the best yin yoga teacher!
Does that sound familiar?! Yeah, us too!
There are so many yoga teachers around these days - and for the record we think that's a good thing, more yoga teachers is more people to share the joys and benefits of yoga! But it does mean, for want of a better word, more competition. The best, or maybe, the only way to differentiate yourself from the masses is to be yourself. To know who you are, who you want to teach. To have this defined, so it's crystal clear to you how to talk about your classes, workshops and courses. Who you aim your offerings at. What trainings to do, to deepen you knowledge, and what to leave to one side.
This podcast episode is designed to help you define who you are as a yoga teacher. So grab your free workbook from yogahero.co.uk/podcast23 and get ready to define who you are as a yoga teacher. This is a huge, and very very important step in your teaching career, it's exciting!

In this episode we’re highlighting some important considerations when you’re deciding whether to offer a physical adjustment or not.
Adjustments have been chronically abused in the past. So now, when talking about adjustments we have to start the discussion with consent. (Which should have always been the way.)
So, in this episode we’ll start - at the beginning - with consent. Then we’ll look at:
--
Learn adjustments with us!
Adjustments: An introduction and refresher for yoga teachersSaturday 16th & Sunday 17th April
This is an introduction and refresher, so the asanas that we’ll focus on are asanas that you’re likely to be teaching regularly, so that the knowledge you gain can be immediately useful to your teaching. You’ll be guided through each adjustment, with key safety points to be aware of, before being able to practice these adjustments on others, plus receiving them yourself, with guidance and feedback from Holly, and from your fellow yogis.

Do you find that you have endless passion to share yoga with people, you have so many ideas fuelled by the practice of yoga but you're held back by self-doubt? You worry you have a lack of authority, a lack of knowledge, a lack of experience? You think 'why would people want to come to my classes? Why would people want to learn this from me...?!'
This is imposter syndrome, and this podcast episode explores what imposter syndrome is, and how to overcome it - plus we have a 3 day Shatter Imposter Syndrome challenge which goes much more in to detail about what imposter syndrome is, how it can affect you, big things and little things that you can do in your life, and your teaching to beat the imposter syndrome. To join this Shatter Imposter Syndrome challenge, simply go to yogahero.co.uk/shatter
In this episode we start off with a look at what imposter syndrome is, and the impact that it can have on our lives, before looking at how to reduce and overcome that impact.
Now let's remember that we're sharing yoga; something that has endless possible benefits to people, something that helps people live with less pain, less stress, more presence. So when we are held back by imposter syndrome, it doesn't benefit anyone; not us, not our yogis, not our potential future yogis, so it really is important to overcome it.... Which we can do, together!

In this episode, we answer the question - do you need to teach a new sequence each week?
Let’s have a quick look at the work load for a yoga teacher, just in respect to the actual teach of classes, as in, this isn’t taking in to account doing finances, any legal stuff, admin, etc. this is just in respect to teaching classes!
Planning classes does get more snappy as you get more experienced as a teacher, but it can still be time-consuming.. so here’s the question…. Do you need a new sequence each week?
In this episode, we look at the reasoning behind creating new sequences, how you can be efficient and creative and resourceful with the sequences you already have and how to get inspiration for new sequences or to update your existing ones.

Introducing philosophy in to your asana classes can be overwhelming, how do you do it? When? Should you say the Sanskrit? What if you're not confident pronouncing the Sanskrit? What if you can never remember the Sanskrit? What if you get emotional speaking about a concept that has changed your life?
There are so many things that can potentially hold us back!
In this episode we take some that are really common, and break them down, and in doing that, if you feel more confident to bring even a touch of philosophy in to your asana classes, well that is just brill!
In this episode we'll look at:
- The benefits to you as a teacher, to bringing philosophy in to your classes
- The benefits to your yogis
- Philosophical concepts and themes that are potentially easier, more accessible to integrate in to your classes to help to get you in to the swing of it!

Imagine:
Imagine your favourite teacher puts a call out asking for cover, you're able to send your bio straight to them, and they know, you're a great teacher to cover their classes
Imagine there's an opening coming up at a studio you love, and a few teachers get in touch, but you're the one that's able to send your bio straight away, to show the studio that you're a great fit
Imagine that you hear of an office looking for someone to run yoga sessions on a lunchtime for their staff; you're able to send over your bio, showing that you're keen, organised and they get a great feel for your style and your classes, and you get the work.
Having a yoga bio that's perfect for you, that you can access and send where ever you are, means you'll be clear about your yoga and clear about who you'd like to reach and teach.
This episode looks at the structure, content and pitfalls of writing your yoga bio, and talks you through the process, step by step. So, grab a pen, and our workbook from yogahero.co.uk/podcast14 and let's get cracking!

In this episode, we're getting organised, looking to January 2022 and how we can make the most of the January 'New Year, New You' chuff, without it being cheesy or slimy, or both.
The reality is, that at the turn of a week, or a month, or a year, motivation is high - or at least higher than normal- so people are more inclined to try something new, to better themselves, to work on self improvement.
Whether you subscribe to the 'New Year, New You' or not, it is likely to be a stimulus that brings people to yoga.
It's currently mid (ish) December, and although this year especially seems to have flown by, December is quicker than ever! So, rather than arriving in January without a plan, let's take a bit of time now to ensure we're geared up for the New Year.

Many businesses would absolutely love a way to ensure that their customers were right there, in front of them, on a regular, predictable basis, and one of the many interesting things about being a yoga teacher is that we see our customers regularly.
Now I know you don't think of your yoga students as customers (me neither) - they're people who come to your yoga classes. But, if you allow yourself to think of your yogis as customers just for this one episode, i think it will make the information clearer and more useful. After all, this podcast is about helping you earn a fair living, so in reality, you do need CUSTOMERS to bring in INCOME.
In this episode, we'll look at why you would want and need to stay in touch with your yogis, the different communication methods you could use, what to say, and what to bear in mind with each. And we'll round up by looking at how you can evaluate which method or methods are right for you, and for you yogis, to make your efforts as efficient and useful as possible.

Before we look at how to manage your calendar as efficiently as possible, let's just take a step back. Usually, our journey is something like this. We get in to yoga because it really helps us to feel our best. We fall in love with it, so much so that we want to deepen our knowledge and possibly share the practice with others. We embark on a teacher training that is - hopefully - full full full of useful and relevant information about the practice of yoga, and teaching yoga. It's likely, and hopefully, inspiring and enlightening and you learn so much about yourself that you can't wait to share it with others.
So when you graduate, you say yes to every opportunity like Jim Carrey in the film Yes Man, but you also keep your life as it was going; looking after others, possibly maintaining your existing full time job, or study, household tasks, social life etc etc. Just because you've graduated as a yoga teacher doesn't mean you get more hours in the day, and it doesn't mean you have a magic new pot of energy available to you.... so... we get burned out. Or pretty damn close to it. That's what this podcast is all about; avoiding that. Building up knowledge, skills and habits to ensure that you can pursue your dreams but not at the detriment of your health.
This podcast episode breaks down how to ensure you're not taking on too much, but also how to also ensure you're making the very best of the opportunities that come your way. We'll look at not double booking, not running around like a headless chicken, not missing out on opportunities, practicalities to consider, ways you can have oversight of your current and upcoming work, and much more.

This episode is part of our mini-series looking at useful resources, and we're focusing on resources for promoting your yoga offering via social media.
Isn't just the blackest hole that we can fall down as business owners!
With promoting your yoga on social media, it can really feel like there's always more to do, like other businesses have got a plan which they're executing perfectly, while you're drafting out a post with one hand while cooking dinner with the other, trying to make sure you've spelt everything right and wondering what hashtags you're going to put with the caption...
With that in mind, we're looking at useful resources to help you save time and maximise your efficiencies when promoting your yoga on social media.
1. A scheduling tool
Why use a scheduling tool? Well, it'll help you see how many posts you have ready to go for the next week / fortnight / month / year. It means you can make a big cup of coffee, sit in front of the scheduling tool, choose or create images, write captions, input them in to the tool and then bish, bash bosh, it's done.
Some things to consider in terms of deciding which scheduling tool to use:
a. Do you have a budget?
b. How do you want to view your schedule?
c. How do you want to find the right hashtags?
d. Do you need analytics?
e. Do you have the capacity to try to follow people's actions, from viewing your content, to visiting your website, to booking a class or event?
f. What is your reason for being on social media? If you're struggling a bit here, you might like to listen to 'Find your yogis' to help keep you focused.
2. A social media calendar
Use any form of calendar to have an overview of you focuses, your posts, see any gaps, or anything that's too densely featured.
3. How often should you post?
Now in my humble opinion, I would say, don't worry about this. Focus on what your yogis need to know from you; how you are, who you are, what you're offering, what the benefits are of joining you at those offerings, revelations you've had, etc etc, and see how that boils down and fits into your calendar.
4. Canva for creating your images
Make beautiful eye-catching images at the exact size for each platform at no cost, or a low cost. Quick word of warning - that the day can actually completely disappear on canva, it's a real time sucker, so I'd recommend - honestly - setting a timer and giving yourself that long to create what you need to create.
5. Define your process for naming and storing those images
For images that are promoting something on a specific date, include the date of the offering in the file name, and then you know that you can search by that.
Related to this, have a system for where you keep these files - whether its on something like dropbox or google drive, or your laptop - make sure it's backed up! It's a couple of extra seconds now, to save you time in the future.
6. Brand guidelines
Create continuity and consistency in your social media output, so that people who want to hear from you don't miss your posts by accident!
7. Define set times in your calendar for responding to comments and messages on the platforms
Turn off notifications for social media, and set times to log on and respond to comments and messages.

Being a yoga teacher is a wonderful, incredible, life changing job. But it can also be bloody hard work. It’s not all teaching yoga, there’s so much else that comes with the role; managing energy levels, planning classes, promoting your offering, contacting and staying in touch with your students, designing posts for Instagram, managing finances, sending invoices, predicting cash flow, ongoing study, looking for opportunities for new classes, dreaming up workshops and courses… and so the list goes on.
When all this is done as-hoc, either things get missed, like deadlines, or opportunities, or it all gets overwhelming and leads to burn out - which is exactly what this podcast has been created to avoid.
In this episode, we look at how to make a business decision as to whether to hire an accountant or not, useful resources to stay on top of your invoices, and banking resources too.

Renting a space for yoga - what to consider.
In this episode, we’ll look at everything you need to know, to think about, to consider, when renting a space to teach yoga. This advice stands when renting a space by the hour, or by the class, or renting a space exclusive, month in, month out.
This is an accumulation of all the, ermmmm shall we say learnings that I’ve learnt over the past 8 years, over which time Yoga Hero has inhabited:
I’d start by saying that no space is completely perfect, so keep in mind what, and who, you’ll be teaching which will help you prioritise - we’ll come back to that after we’ve looked at what to hear in mind.
The points we're considering are:
We have created a handy checklist for you, that covers these 15 points, which you can download, and consult each time you view a space - even if it's a meeting room for a workplace session right through to renting a space full time. To get yours, simply go to yogahero.co.uk/podcast8

In this episode we look at why you would even want to find your yogis in the first place; why it benefits you and your yogis (once you’ve found them!), how to determine who your yogis are, how to reach and connect with them and what to do if you’ve done all that and you’re still struggling.
Knowing who your audience is, can be the difference between between thriving as a yoga teacher, and struggling as a yoga teacher.
When you know the population(s) that you want to work with, everything simply falls in to place. Where you should focus your learning energy, what classes you should take on, what classes you should drop, what extra studies you can aspire to do, where to focus your personal practice…
In this episode, you’ll learn:
The steps to determining, plus the steps to finding your yogis are in a simple worksheet for you to read and follow at your leisure. Get that, plus the shownotes at yogahero.co.uk/podcast5

In Podcast 3 we looked at Productivity for a Clear Mind, which covered the methodology created by David Allen in the book Getting Things Done. This podcast is a very practical podcast; covering how to conduct a regular review. David Allen calls it a weekly review, but I find that I rarely do it weekly; I’ll sometimes do it more often or less often, just depending on what’s going on.
This podcast should be useful and follow-able even if you haven’t listened to Podcast 3, however, if you do have the time and opportunity, listening to Podcast 3 should make this even more useful.

Becoming more productive gives you two important things back which many of us are lacking these days: time and mental clarity.
The approach covered in this episode is based on the methodology in the book Getting Things Done, by David Allen. I first stumbled across this book in 2018, which was the year that a) Yoga Hero had our first teacher training course, b) I was overseeing a £100,000 refurbishment at the studio and c) got married. So it was quite the busy year!
Not only did I want to give my all to all of these things, there was obviously a lot of general business running to do too, and still only a set number of hours each week, and a finite amount of energy. I wanted to hire people to help but there simply wasn't the money in the business. So there was two options; work more hours (which wasn't really an option), or, be more productive with the time that I was working.
Things always seem to work out don't they, and as it happened, this book pretty much fell in to my lap with a post it note on from the universe saying "Holly read me!".
I did, and I haven't looked back, and now I'm beyond excited to share the approach with you.
This approach is so incredibly useful and empowering. And don't worry about taking notes - we have a write up for you which explains the steps, and includes a link to the book should you want to know more - at yogahero.co.uk/podcast3

There's a bit of a chicken and egg situation where confidence is concerned... in order to get really confident at something, we need to practice, practice, practice and get experience, yet lacking in confidence might well mean that we don't put ourselves forward to gain that experience needed. So it becomes a bit of a cycle; we lack confidence teaching, so don't put ourselves forward for teaching opportunities, which further propels the lack of confidence, which means we're even less likely to go out and get experience...
This podcast is about breaking that cycle; how to put yourself out there, gain experience and increase confidence. We'll look at tricks to feel very confident when planning and communicating your yoga offering, and then when actually delivering it too! We'll look at conquering nerves, and silencing that niggly imposter voice, so you can shortcut to getting excited about sharing your yoga, without feeling held back.
It's so important for you to be confident when delivering your yoga knowledge to your students, we hope so much that this podcast helps you find, and build, the confidence that you need and deserve.
