On this episode of the Future Champions Podcast we will be exploring the concept of vision. But let’s be clear about what this episode is not about. It is not about having vision in a game or in competition – the ability to understand competition, your role in it and to see things before others do. That type of vision is an incredible skill and something we will discuss in a future episode. But not in this one.
The type of vision that I want to talk about is your future vision. Without a future vision, it is almost impossible to end up where you want to. Because, if you don’t know where you are going, how can you know how to get there.
Your vision is your why. It’s your conviction.Your core source of motivation.
Creating Your Vision Board
My Vision Board for 2021
A vision board is a visualisation tool to help you see your ultimate why. A vision board is a collage of pictures, words, phrases and quotes. Each one is something you personally identify as important in achieving your Why, What and How?
Why is a vision board so important? High performance athletes use visualisation to achieve their vision. Creating and continually reflecting on a vision board is a great visualisation tool and will help you to stay focused on the things you have identified that really matter.
I am not a scrapbooker and this is not a guide on how to create a pretty poster. Rather, I want to share the steps I believe are important in creating meaningful content for a vision statement in your life. If you want your vision to be meaningful, then you need to put the effort in. Rather than steps, I am going to talk in days.
Day One
Collect your thoughts. If you journal, then spend time putting your thoughts on paper. Just start writing what comes to your mind. It doesn’t have to be pretty; it just needs to capture some key ideas such as:
What will your life look like in three years- Best Case?Where will you be?Who will you be with? What will you be doing? How will you be feeling? What are your strengths? What makes you happy?
Take time to dream big and capture those thoughts on paper.
This should take you at least 20 minutes and be at least two pages of thoughts. If it doesn’t come to you straight away, then that’s okay. Walk away and come back when you feel ready. It doesn’t only have to be about one area of your life. Try to look at what you value your whole life so that you can ensure that there is a good balance as you grow and develop.
Day Two
Pick up your journal entry and read it. Do you need to add to it? Do you need to take things out? Spend a bit of time reflecting on this. Now pull-out important words and concepts from your journal entry. Key words that reflect your WHY, WHAT and HOW. Write these on a separate piece of paper.
Day three
Take all those words, themes and ideas to help you find visual representations. The easiest way to do this is to do a search on Google for words, phrases and pictures that speak to you. Save all the images and write down all the phrases and words that have spoken to you.
Remember that these words and images should reflect your vision (your why). You should also try and capture what you are going to do and how you are going to achieve it. Some will be big things and other may be simple.
If you are a footballer and you want to get better at headers, then go and find a picture of someone you admire heading a ball. Or maybe there is a picture of you heading a ball perfectly - then use that.
Again, your vision board should remind you what you are going to do and how you are going to do it. Let’s us another example. Say you want to be the fastest 100m sprinter in the state. Your what could be to increase your speed over 20meter. How you could achieve that is to get a sprints coach and do three parachute sprints each week.
Day Four
How create your vision board is up to you. It is your vision, your future and needs to speak to you.
If you speak to most coaches, they will tell you that focus is one of the biggest issues for any athlete. This episode of the Future Champions explores the importance of focus.
Intensity is an often misunderstood word.
In this episode of the Future Champions Podcast, we will be exploring the concept of intensity. But fair warning, this is not the definitive guide, nor a deep dive into sports psychology.
The goal of this episode is to get you to think about what intensity means to you, to your sport and to the different situations where it has an impact on your performance.
We speak to Chris Latham, Troy Haligowski and Jacki Gallagher. Jhazara also joins the Podcast to blow up a ballon to help explain pressure and intensity.
John Taylor, aged 30 died in 1918 in a coal mining accident, Hamilton Scotland. As a result, his son at the age of 14 would have to go and work in the same mine that took his father's life.

In Part 1 of the Gospel According to Martin Docherty we learn how simple it should be for children to discover and grow in football.
Martin has developed a simple guide for grassroots football coaches to assist in providing a safe, organised and fun football experience. It is called the Browns Plains Mazda Football Fundamentals Guide.

Martin also speaks about talent selection and mentorship. This is a really good source of information for coaches, parents and players.
What are you scared of? What are your greatest fears and how do you face them?
In sport and life, we have to learn to confront our fear and step forward in strength. This podcast explores the concept of fear and what you can do to overcome it.
Remembering Dunkirk gives it a greater context.
Welcome to Part 2 of the Gospel According to Cassie Vincitorio.
In Part 1 we explored Cassie's progression through junior sport and her desire to represent Australia in touch football. She shared her excitement at being selected into the Australian Squad to trial for the Australian touch football team.
In Part two we find out about Cassie’s disappointment at not making the Australian side in her first two attempts and how she used that disappointment as a motivation to achieve her dream.
I was due to share the second part of Cassie Vincitorio's journey in sport today. But I have decided to leave that until next Friday (28 February). I hope Cassie won't mind!
I did this because really felt compelled to share this message on family violence. No Words for a podcast.
Welcome to the Future Champions Podcast in this episode of the Gospel according to Cassie Vincitorio.
This is meant to be the story of Cassie Vincitorio and her journey of representing Australia in Touch Football. But it is so much more than that. Cassie’s journey and her pursuit of representing Australia is inspiring. But for me, it is the relationship between Peter Feldman and his daughter Cassie that really shines through.
Cassie grew up in a small Queensland town called Gayndah in a loving family with parents who were committed to providing their children with every opportunity possible. She immersed herself in a range of sports - swimming, running, netball, football, cross country, triathlon and touch football. Touch football became the sport Cassie pursued into her adulthood.
In April 2019, Cassie travelled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with the mixed 30’s Australian Touch team to compete in the Touch World Cup, where they were crown world champions.
This two part series is Cassie’s journey from junior elite sport to becoming a Queensland and Australian representative athlete. It is also the story of a loving father who did what ever he had to in order to give his children every opportunity for success. Including becoming a swimming coach, despite to being able to swim.

Guy recited a poem he wrote about a severe bush fire that impacted Australia in 2003. The poem is based on a true story recounted to him. This poem is simply inspiring.
