Hey everybody Anthony Morrison here and on today's episode of the Unlock Success Podcast I'm going to dive into the somewhat controversial topic of getting paid for your knowledge versus simply giving it away for free.
There are a few different opinions out there:
-Some believe you should give ALL of your knowledge away for free, then if you want help IMPLEMENTING this knowledge you can begin charging for it.
-Others hold that you should charge for BOTH the knowledge and the implementation, where the implementation comes at a much higher cost as it takes in more of your time.
-No surprise here, but I hold to a blend of the two and believe there is a very specific way that you can both charge for knowledge, and give a healthy amount of it away for free.
And I believe this distinction has helped fuel my business with both successful and happy customers for over a decade.

I heard quote growing up that said, "Monday Morning Starts Sunday Night."
Which means, if you want to hit the ground running on Monday, you better do the prep needed on Sunday.

So while I'm not knocking any methods or strategies out there, I just see the massive importance in learning the MINDSET skills you need to push through when things get tough, or even to set proper expectations about your business.
And speaking of proper expectations...
Today's episode talks about just that.
I called today's episode the Myth of Passive Income.
If you search "Passive Income" on YouTube or in Google you are bound to find a ton of controversy around this phrase.
Some people think it doesn't even exist and we shouldn't use the term anymore, others think that it DOES exist but it doesn't replace consistently working on your business.
I'll bet you in the next few minutes I could find 10 hours worth of content telling you about the importance of hustling, grinding, working late, and putting in the hours to make your dreams come true.
But I would be hard-pressed to find 5 minutes of content that actually tells you what you should be doing.
Now, I know a lot of it is just harmless motivation so I don't want you to think I'm here to tell you never to watch one of those videos again or they're all a waste of time.
But there is a danger in these videos.
These videos have a pretty massive misunderstanding of what entrepreneurship really is and what actually moves the needle in your business.
And if you're not careful, this misunderstanding can destroy your productivity and business in general.
I call it the Diminishing Returns of Hustling
Here's what I mean, we've all heard of diminishing returns.
Just because something starts out with a good return, doesn't mean it always stays that way. You may have seen this if you've ever run ads on Facebook or Youtube.
Even if you begin profitably, as you increase your budget you might find that your Return on Adspend gets smaller and smaller.
Or let's say you're hiring a team. At first, hiring people is profitable because more work is getting done, but at a certain point simply hiring more people costs more money than they'll be able to bring in.
Well, the same is true in Hustle Culture.
Hustling, or working those long hours, may start off being profitable, but eventually the return you get for those late nights and time away from family gets smaller and smaller.
Why is this?
It's simply because at a certain level, working MORE does not always mean working BETTER.
In fact, some of the most profitable things you can do in your business don't always require you to be there at all hours of the day.

Today I want to talk about a quote I'm starting to see roll around on the internet.
The quote goes like this:
"It takes 10 Years to Become an Overnight Success."
I googled it to try to find who originally said it and while I couldn't find who said it first, it seems Jeff Bezos made it popular.
Now, the unfortunate thing is people are getting wrapped up in the whole 10 years thing...
There's a ton of forums where people are arguing if it REALLY takes ten years, or if it could be done in less time, or if you actually need MORE than that...
And it's hilarious because they're completely missing the point of the quote.
The point of the saying is that when you see someone become what LOOKS like an overnight success, you have to realize that there is years and years of work behind that success.
It's like that image of an iceburg...
All you see is the TIP of the iceburg, but there is soooo much going on beneath the surface that you aren't seeing.
And because it's not easy to see that foundation, when we see someone seemingly pop up out of nowhere with all this success, with think they're an "overnight success."
When in reality, they've been doing the slow & steady, small & boring things for years.
So today on the podcast I want to get very practical with you and talk about a few of those, slow & steady things you can be doing TODAY, to help you become an overnight success in the future.

Everyone has heard the phrase, "fake it til you make it."
No one really knows where this expression came from but the reason it was originally used was to encourage people that lacked confidence, to simply ACT more like a confident person or "fake" their confidence levels.

Now, whether you believe that's actually true or not, we can all agree there's no harm in believing in yourself.
But people have used this phrase to - flat out justify - LYING about themselves and about their business.
They fake the money, the mansions, the vacations.... they inflate their social media following with bots and post pictures that barely reflect reality...
They fake the success their having with their programs or courses.
And the sad part is, some of these gurus really do fool people with their marketing and people will get sucked in.
And we all know that's a pretty bad practice. But there's another dangerous way that we end up being a "fake" in our business.
And it's by being at the wrong stage of our business at the wrong time.
What does that mean?

In America today there are about 11 Million millionaires. When you think about how big this country is, that's a lot of millionaires.
But studies show that only 12% of them earned their net-worth through generational wealth, meaning, it was passed down to them.
That means there's close to 10 Million people in this country that have earned a net-worth placing them in the top of the top 1% - simply by taking action in their life, gearing their habits toward success, and focusing on their goal.
Having reached this goal myself, having seen my brother get there, and having friends around the world in different ways and from all walks of life build a net worth that crossed the 7 figure mark, I can attest there are habit across the board that just about every millionaire I know does...
And I want to share those with you today.

The other day I was scrolling through my newsfeed on Youtube and I noticed that every video being recommended to me was telling the same story...
The story was about a struggling entrepreneur who started from nothing, then learned a few key strategies, put in some work, and is now a multi-millionaire, most likely with a half-dozen mansions and 43 fast cars that he barely uses because he's traveling the world every day of the year.
And whenever I clicked on one of these videos guess what I saw, ADS...
Yes, ADS, telling the EXACT SAME STORY as the one I was about to watch in the video:
"A struggling entrepreneur who started from nothing but managed to turn it into an Empire."
Maybe you've seen this story over and over again in your newsfeed as well.
And look, there's nothing wrong with that, I think these stories are inspiring.... I share my own as often as I can...
But here's the problem,
Because we have access to the internet.... sites like Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok...
We now have access to the world's most remarkable stories from Entrepreneurs, stories of unbelievable wealth where people start at the bottom of the bottom and rise above everyone else.
And it's tempting to see all of these stories and think,
"THERE'S an entrepreneur that's TRULY remarkable... and because I'll never be like them, I'll never be remarkable myself."
And that's a dangerous.
So on today's video we discuss why that is, and how we can think differently about ourselves and our business.

Hey everybody Anthony Morrison here and welcome to another episode of the Unlock Success Podcast.
Today we're going to dive deep into a concept that 80% of my listeners have heard, but only 20% have probably ever thought to apply.
Obviously I'm talking about the 80/20 principle that's extremely popular in business and management circles which states - 20% of your output, produces 80% of your results.
This concept dates all the way back to 1906 from an Italian Economist who noticed how 20% of the pea pods in his garden actually produced 80% of the peas.
The more he thought about this concept, the more he began to see it play out in just about every area of life and business.
I actually just did a quick survey over at Morrison Publishing and it's absolutely true:
-20% of our customers produce 80% of our revenue
-20% of our sales team closes 80% of of our sales
-20% of our Ads generate 80% of our profits
And the list goes on.
But here's the funny thing about the 80/20 principle that seems to go unnoticed, everyone loves to talk about it - but nobody seems to know how to apply.
I mean it's great if you know that 80% of your time, resources, and advertising are just spinning wheels, costing time and money, serving no purpose in your business, but when you go to cut those things out it becomes almost impossible.
Why is that? Why is it so hard to trim the fat in our business when we KNOW it's what we need?
Well, I have the answer but you're not going to like, and that's exactly why I need to tell it to you.
Let me ask you a question....
Do you identify with any of these qualities?
-Narcissism
-Ego
-Arrogance
-Pride
The chances are, if you heard that list on its own, you'd quickly say "no way!"
But what if I told you that if you have trouble with delegating, then you probably struggle with the qualities I just mentioned.
The reason is, delegating tasks to someone other than yourself isn't a sign of weakness, it's actually a sign of humility.
In fact, I'm tempted to say that our obsession with taking things in our own hands and not allowing anyone else to complete a task for us is the #1 productivity killer in your business right now.
So today I want to walk through why delegation is SO important for your business, no matter how big or small it is, and how avoiding it can actually turn you into a person you'd hate to become.
If you were to ask yourself today which would you rather have, money or freedom, what would it be? It may sound like an easy answer but whenever I ask this to a group of people I get a varied response:
"Both!"
"Money - so I can buy freedom!"
"Freedom - all the way!"
And while it may seem like an arbitrary question, if you're planning on growing in your business or working towards becoming a more successful version of yourself...
Then you NEED to have this answer figured out and locked in your brain.

Why?
Because the opportunities in 2020 are so far beyond what we've ever seen in our lifetime... including when I got started over 15 years ago. But that doesn't mean it's easier - there are definitely some pitfalls we need to watch out for when working towards our goals.
