We are in a series on Spiritual Formation, and over the next several weeks we are focusing on how we are formed by the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit.
The work of the Holy Spirit in us is to transform us and change us. The work of the Holy Spirit through us is to transform and change the world. The baptism of the Spirit is His power to carry out His purposes.

--
Prompting questions & reminders from today's message:
What weariness and burdens do I need to give to Jesus this week?
Do I have any resistance to receiving God's gentleness and love toward me?
What will you have to take off in order to put on compassion and kindness? (Colossians 3:23)
Who is God asking you to see and be available to this week?
For the first 4 months of the year we focused on God's Presence. Now we are looking at how we are being transformed by His Presence.

Scripture has two invitations that are woven into the Biblical story from the first page to the last and we see those two invitations explicitly in the resurrection story as well: COME and SEE & GO and TELL.

The Gospel According to John opens like this: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
As we've been talking about becoming people of God's presence over the last several weeks we've talked a lot about prayer. Today we're talking about the role of the Scriptures.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 says "pray without ceasing...for this is the will of God for you..."
As we continue in our series on Presence and Prayer, Brandon shares about persistent prayer - praying without ceasing - and how we put that into practice both individually and corporately.
Many of us know about Jesus. But do you have a relationship with Jesus?
Jesus invites us into relationship with him. Not just a master-servant relationship. No, he also invites us into a real friendship with him.
But how do we cultivate this type of relationship, this friendship with Jesus?
In prayer.

“...Be still, and know that I am God…” -Psalm 46
God invites us into stillness and quiet as an act of resistance and trust. It is in this stillness that we learn who God is and who we are.
Our biggest problem with prayer isn’t mechanics or prayer itself; our problem with prayer is the preconceived notions and misunderstandings about God and ourselves that we bring to prayer.
When someone says the word "mission" what comes to mind?
In our final Vision 2022 message, Pastor Grant shares what God's BIG mission of reconciling the world to Him means for us today, right now where we are.
What does it mean for us to be formed into the image of Jesus?
Pastor Grant challenges us to move beyond Sunday sermons or just another podcast and to move towards making daily choices with Jesus that change who we are....to take seriously who we are becoming through our routines, our habits, and the ideologies that we digest and to return to Jesus as the center of everything.
What does it mean to be a people of God’s presence?
join us as Pastor Grant answers that question and shares some practical ways we can begin living in God’s presence.
“The practice of dreaming and living on mission with Jesus begins with his invitation to ‘Come and see.’” -Pastor Meiko Seymour
Today we conclude our Advent series, The Gift of Jesus, as one of our Elders, Diane Swanson, shares about Love.
Today we continue in our Advent series, The Gift of Jesus as one of our Elders, Ashley Mele, shares about Joy.

Mark 1:1-3
1 Peter 1:3-7, 13
How do we prepare the way for Jesus?
1. We make space for God & live awake to His presence.
2. We set our hope on His return.
Are you awake to God and aware of His Presence? Are you cultivating a heart of hope that is anchored in what He has done? Are you looking forward to what He will do?
Join us as we continue in the Gospel According to Mark, chapter 12, versus 13-17 and ask the question, "Whose mark is on your life?"
Guest speaker Rick Collins challenges us to set up a watchtower. Join us in the Gospel According to Mark, chapter 12, verses 1-12.
Ouida Bradford is the state director for Georgia Chi Alpha Campus Ministries. Ouida joins us today as we close out Mark chapter 10, verses 46-25.
Today we look at James and John's audacity to ask for status and greatness. But do we see the faith and relationship that allows them to ask such a question of Jesus?
Join us in Mark chapter 10, verses 32-45.
As we continue in Mark chapter 10, verses 6-9 we discover more about what God says about about marriage. And in doing so we also learn how God views gender and sex.
Key points:
-your gender is purposeful and intentional
-your gender is central in how God created marriage
Marriage means leaving home.
Sex and One-ness are essential.
Other Scripture referenced: Psalm 139:13-16; Ephesians 5:22-33
Jesus addressed marriage by addressing the disciples' question about divorce.
Today we continue in The Gospel According to Mark, chapter 10, verses 1-12.
Pastor Grant continues in our series from The Gospel According to Mark, chapter 9 verses 14-29.
Highlights from the message:
Sometimes the key to overcoming disappointment isn’t in receiving “justice” or “breakthrough” but in knowing the heart of God.
There is value in this season whether or not you feel powerful and it isn’t something you wanna post about.
Die to the influencer culture and allow Him to take you through the process where you become the sign and wonder the body is hungry for.
We have to come to a place where we can be real with God about what hurts us in disappointment- and in that place of leaning in we can receive the yield of new life in the Spirit if we go through the cycles of life and death with Him.
Sometimes- I do mean sometimes- disappointment is a gift to show us where our focus has been on the wrong thing.
It’s the place where we let ‘what it was supposed to be like die’ and we lay on the potter’s wheel open to experiencing the wonders of Jesus if we keep our heart open to that exchange.
What does God give us to overcome disappointment?
Covenant Relationships with the Body of Christ
The Spiritual Gifts
Hunger for Jesus - a life in the Spirit
We continue our series through the Gospel According to Mark. We pick up at Mark chapter 9, verses 1-13.
Other Scripture references:
Daniel 7:9-14
Malachi 3:1-2; 4:4-6
2 Corinthians 3:7-9, 13-18
1 Corinthians 4:15-16
1. WHAT KIND OF FATHER IS GOD?
- Luke 15:11-24
2. WHAT ARE FATHERS CALLED TO DO?
a. provision
b. protection
c. purpose
i. John 1:19-23
ii. Luke 1:76-79
3. WHAT DO WE DO WHEN OUR EARTHLY FATHERS AREN’T GOOD LIKE FATHER GOD?
MARK 8:34-38
Why is this passage so important?
1| Jesus says to deny yourself.
a. to deny: i) to affirm that one has no acquaintance or connection with someone; ii) to forget one's self; lose sight of one's self and one's own interests
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Philippians 3:4-9
2| Jesus says you must take up your cross.
Philippians 3:10-11
The cross life is the command to die to yourself SO THAT the image of Christ-the actual life of Christ-can be lived out through you.
Galatians 2:20; 5:16-25
3| Jesus says to follow him.
MARK 8:22-26
Two interpretations of this passage:
1. A story about a blind man and a progressive healing.
Three things we need to see:
A. Jesus heals the sick.
B. Jesus took the man outside the village.
C. The man isn't completely healed the first time Jesus prays.
2. A literary device used by Mark to connect Mark chapters 1-8 to Mark chapters 9-16.
How we develop a distorted view of Jesus:
I. a misreading of the Scriptures
II. the curvature of our own heart's ambition
III. our worldview
Scripture references for today's message:
- Acts 1:4-8
- Joel 2:28-29
- Acts 2:38-39
- Acts 19:1-6
Grant's Final Thoughts:
everywhere you go.
and make disciples from every nation baptizing them into the Name of the Father,
Son, & the Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that Jesus has commanded. We
are all on mission with Jesus.
promised the Holy Spirit. And Jesus says He is necessary for the journey.
A powerful message about Pentecost on Pentecost Sunday 2021.
Sermon Notes

Power (v.8a) - We miss the full empowerment of the Spirit.
Purpose (v.8b) - We neglect the ultimate missional purpose of the Spirit.
Person (v.6) - We minimize the personality of the Spirit.
Participation (v.4-5) - We excuse our participation in the Spirit's mission.
Promise (v.4) - We forget that Pentecostal power is a promise.
