We've all seen programs and marketing that preach you have to be intense to lose weight. Crash diets, crazy workouts, unsustainable misery to drop the pounds. Many of us have tried them. We've gotten results and either been unable to keep them, or we've stalled out and burnt out.

We didn't build the habits needed to sustain that lifestyle. We didn't build a foundation through intentional actions and consistency before diving head long into the grind. In this episode, I talk about the difference between being intense vs being intentional and why you should practice one before the other.

At some point, you've probably heard it said that you need to eat more to loose weight, and it's probably sounded a little confusing. I mean, if you're a healthy individual, eating more is what kicked off the need for a weight loss journey... Right? Do I need to eat more or be in a caloric deficit? Well, the answer is both. In this episode, I break down what that means and provide some great free tools to help you get unstuck and back on track to hitting your weight loss goals.   NASM Calorie Calculator: https://www.nasm.org/resources/calorie-calculator?psafe_param=1&cq_cmp=&cq_cmp=19767936423&network=x&utm_term=&utm_campaign=CPT_ACQ_SHOPPING_WEB_PMAX&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paidsearch&hsa_acc=2454829191&hsa_cam=19767936423&hsa_grp=&hsa_ad=&hsa_src=x&hsa_tgt=&hsa_kw=&hsa_mt=&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gclid=Cj0KCQiAjbagBhD3ARIsANRrqEuTkPVUnAuJmQs_83-fAETJFLkCL-A_hipekq4I5I3QKIZrH7INI8EaAsIeEALw_wcB   Join the Revolution at www.MomsAndDadsGet.Fit and jump into the forum to talk about today's episode, ask questions, and get access to our free monthly newsletter.   Follow us @fitparentrevolution

Smart Goal Setting What is a smart goal? I’m not saying that some goals are dumb SMART, S M A R T, is an acronym I and other NASM trainers use with our clients. Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely When I sit down and have my first talk with a potential client. One of the most import parts of the meeting is to find out their goals, and/or help them set them. I talk to a lot of people how what to get down to a specific weight or size and don’t seem to have a reason for the number. It just kind of sound good or it was the weight they were during a happier time in their life. Goal setting is a way to make sure you are moving forward and have a target to hit. Setting a SMART Goal help you stay on track and keeps things from going sideways.

The Holidays are coming!

· Halloween is just days away and that kicks off the season of over indulgence, candy, cookies and feasts

· If you are struggling with food and weight loss this time of year is extremely draining

o You feel like you are missing out

o Depression spikes and can cause us to spiral out of control

o There’s guilt associated with not participating in the festivities

Holidays don’t have to be stressful (well not when it comes to your fitness.) Here are a few strategies that have worked for myself and my clients.

· Calling back to my last podcast, Stay constant.

o Don’t lose your structure. We all get a little off track but keep hitting your workouts.

o Lean on your support (trainer, class-mates, gym buddies, people in your online group)

o Consider tracking your food again, don’t go overboard if this is going to cause stress. The easiest app for my clients is at www.myfitnesspal.com

· Give your self-permission to participate

o Go into Holidays with a mindset of abundance, eat a little cake, put a little, of everything on your plate for that special holiday meal and enjoy time with your friends and family.

o Keep the goal in mind. You are working toward a healthy life. That meals finding balance.

o One or two days will not completely destroy your month.

· Set your expectations

o The more you indulge, the slower your progress, adjust accordingly.

o Set a goal to keep the needle moving in the right direction.

· Don’t Binge

o Food is a large part of social interaction in the US you can participate without eating 3 servings. Stuffing yourself so much you have to unbutton you pants.

The Secret to Sustained Weight Loss

Consistency

Constantly push out of your comfort zone.

· Scale up, push a little harder (not to the point of injury) but you should be able to do more as you go. Make sure your workouts are progressing as you go.

Consistently set and re assess goals

· If your goal is to loss 100 lbs, set a goal to lose at least 2 lbs per week. Weigh in and hold yourself accountable.

· Set activity goals and smash them, start with 2 workouts a week and build to 3 or 4. Set step goals per day and make sure to hit them.

· Set nutrition goals. Drink more water, make a commitment to change one eating habit every two week and get your nutrition on point.

Consistently Track Progress

You can’t really eyeball things starting out. Make sure you have some kind of app or fitness journal to track your progress. It will not only help you stay on track, it will help you understand what’s getting in your way. We can’t get past obstacles that we can’t identify.

Got to www.hurdlefitness.comor email me at ocrtrainer@gmail.comto see if the Hurdle Fitness app and coaching is right for you. Try it Free for 7 days just head to https://mailchi.mp/347a4cf1cde9/hurdle7dayfree.

Consistently look for motivation.

· It doesn’t find you. You have to find it.

· Listen to podcasts

· Join Facebook fitness groups

· Follow your favorite trainers online

Stick with a program

· Weight loss is a long term goal.

· The more with want to loose and the longer you’ve carried the weight factor into how long it’s going to take to shed the lbs.
