If you spend a lot of time scrolling social media like I do, chances are you’ve come across certain “experts” who claim you can create a month’s worth of content in 30 minutes… IF you buy their super-duper program that shows you how.And while I do believe you don’t have to reinvent the wheel every month, there does seem to be confusion surrounding what actually goes into creating content. In today’s episode, I’m going to take you through the elements of a good content plan, how long content creation ACTUALLY takes, and a few tips for making your content go further. If you own a website, run Google ads, or send emails as part of your marketing strategy, you’ve probably received notifications about DMARC authentication and the changes that are happening with Cookies. I’m not kidding when I say that this is one of the most important topics I’ve covered on the podcast. If you don’t address these changes, your emails will end up in spam folders, links to your website could drop off, and you could waste THOUSANDS of dollars on ads that don’t work. The new year brings all sorts of declarations and resolutions – many of which get abandoned just a few weeks (or days) into January. The most common New Year’s resolution I’ve seen lately is people resolving to do 75 Hard – a program designed to completely change your body and develop some serious grit. It’s a tough program, but worth it, and it got me thinking: what if we did a 75 Hard for business owners? 75 business days to completely change your business, and develop systems that WORK. If you’re keen to join me, you’ll find all the resources you’ll need, here: bit.ly/75HardBusiness
My podcast on discounts and promotions last month generated some really interesting discussion. The general consensus was that, while many business owners understand that discounting doesn’t contribute long-term to their brand, they either didn’t know how to STOP relying on promotions, or they didn’t feel their brand was ‘premium enough’ to warrant charging higher prices. And while these are totally valid concerns, they’re not insurmountable problems. Here's the thing:YOU get to set your prices. YOU get to say what your value is. And YOU can change your mind, one way or the other, whenever you like. And if you want to learn how to position your brand as premium? In this episode, I’m going to show you how.
One of my idols, Seth Godin, once said,“When you speak to everyone, you speak to no-one”.And nowhere is this clearer to me than in the marketing world.Try and speak to everyone and your message comes across as weak, generic, and I hate to say it - a little bit desperate. So, how do you avoid becoming the pick-me of your industry? For starters, you stop trying to please everybody, and you speak directly to your customer avatars. In this episode I’ll take you through:- What a customer avatar actually IS, - Why getting granular about your customer avatar, matters,- How you create an EFFECTIVE customer avatar, and- The things you need to consider beyond age, gender and income when creating a customer avatar. My team has created a free workbook to go with this episode, you can download it here

If you haven’t seen the Barbie movie yet, I’m willing to bet you’ve seen one of the MANY collaborations being promoted… well, pretty much everywhere!
The hype for the film began WELL before its release date, and from a marketer’s perspective, the campaign has been a masterclass in how to do things right.
In this episode, I’m going to show you how the main themes of the film were reflected throughout the marketing cycle, and hopefully give you some ideas for tapping into pop culture trends the RIGHT way in your own marketing.
I’d love to hear which of these lessons you’re going to implement in YOUR business.

At the time of recording this episode, Threads has been live for about 8 weeks and the term I’ve heard used to describe it the most has been, “a flash in the pan”.
Like Periscope and Telegram, Threads never really made it off the ground.
In this episode, I discuss: - WHY Threads was invented in the first place - The gap in the market it aimed to fill - Why I think it didn’t live up to the hype, and - What to do if you want to stay on the platform a little longer, just in case it DOES end up taking off.
Which it still could, you know. In marketing, anything is possible!
When it comes to the world of business, your name conveys more information than you may realise. So the decision to CHANGE an established business name is not one that should be entered into lightly! In this episode, I share the reasons behind my business name change, and how it all started when Taylor Swift decided to re-record all her old albums. As they say, inspiration can be found everywhere, if you care to look for it!I hope that, after listening, you realise that the comeback is always bigger and better than the setback - and that, if things aren't feeling quite right in your business, you ALWAYS have the power to make a change. Everybody loves a bargain, but constant discounting can completely wipe out your profit margins. And believe it or not, it can also damage the perception of your business AND your industry, as a whole. In this episode, I’m going to share my thoughts on when discounting ISN’T appropriate, and give you practical examples of what you should do instead. While the word ‘pivot’ certainly WAS overused during the pandemic, the ACT of pivoting was crucial to the survival of countless small businesses.
Now that we’re well and truly on the other side of Covid, it’s a great time to reflect on the lessons we’ve learned and to examine those businesses that not only survived, but THRIVED, in those turbulent times.
Because tough times never last, but tough (and adaptable) businesses do. Adapt or die, as they say.
In this episode, we’re going to talk about a brand that not only adapted quickly, but built a cult following in the process: Frank Green.
Whenever I come across a service-based business that does marketing differently, I like to dissect what they're doing. And occasionally, I get really lucky and I get to talk to the creative minds behind these campaigns!

In recent years, the term basic has become a term commonly used to insult someone.
And while I’m thrilled that the “I’m rubber you’re glue” of my schoolyard days is long gone, I believe that being basic is actually a COMPLIMENT.
In fact, I built an entire business around the concept.
In this episode, I’m going to share with you why the fundamentals should be your TOP priority, and why I wear the Basic Badge with pride.
When you’ve decided to make a change in your business, it can be tempting to dive in feet-first, and to give it everything you’ve got.
And while I’m a big fan of taking massive action, there’s one question I see business owners forgetting to ask before they start making moves.
In this episode, I’m going to share how asking yourself just one question regularly can save you time, money and frustration – AND, how they can help you clarify your thinking around the actions you need to take to make your goals happen.
A lot of business owners don’t want to invest in digital marketing unless they KNOW they can get a return on their investment.
And fair enough, too – as a business owner myself, I know it’s a serious consideration.
While there are no guarantees in digital marketing, there ARE a few things you can do to ensure you’re not wasting your money.
In this episode of the Boom Your Biz podcast, I'm going to take you throughthe three most common mistakes I see people making when it comes to digital marketing, and what you can do to avoid them.

Setting your socials up for success in 2023 ~ the what and the why, not the how: leading into our first workshop
The New Year brings with it the hope of a new way of doing things; the hope of new clients and new business, a new service and maybe even a new team member or two.
While it’s easy to get swept up in wanting ALL THE NEW THINGS, I’m here to tell you that you DON’T need to go hard in the new year to set yourself up for success.
In this episode, I’m going to give you three things to check - and possibly fix up - to make sure you’re on the right track in 2023.
Lessons we learned from our Get Stuff Done Week
Ever wished you and your team could just take a week to Get Stuff Done, without the usual meetings and distractions that get you off track?
Spoiler alert: You CAN!
My team had its first ever Get Stuff Done week in late November, and while it was great, we learned a few lessons along the way, too!
In this episode, I'll take you through WHY we did it, WHAT was involved, and the LESSONS we'll take into our next GSD week.
Mistakes we saw businesses make on Black Friday (and what you can learn from them)
2022 saw businesses in Australia hit some of their highest sales figures EVER, breaking all kinds of records - despite suggestions that projections were over inflated and we shouldn't expect too much.
Plenty of businesses, including some of our clients, absolutely SMASHED their targets for Black Friday, where others fell short.
For many small business owners, a big goal is to be able to build up a team to the point where you can step out of the day-to-day and have things run smoothly WITHOUT you having to be there, 24/7.
But when you’re starting out, resources can be pretty tight. You may not even be paying yourself a proper wage - I know I wasn’t for the first few years of my business!
There comes a tipping point though, where you have to make the decision to either grow your team or stay small.
In this episode, I’m sharing the top 3 signs that it might be time to grow your team.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you KNOW that I’m a bit of a Swiftie.
In fact, over HALF my team are fans of Ms Swift, and while observing the launch of her latest album, I realised that her pre-launch efforts were an absolute MASTERCLASS in marketing.
In this episode, I'll take you through the 13 reasons I think Taylor Swift 's approach to marketing is chef's kiss - and how you can apply those lessons to your business.
Stop chasing the shiny thing and get strategic with your socials
The original title for this episode was… think you need a new digital marketing strategy? Try these things first… but I think I need to be blunt here:
Chances are, if you’re not seeing followers convert into sales, you’re making one of three common mistakes.
In this episode, I’m going to challenge you to try three relatively simple things BEFORE you spend a lot of time and energy switching up your strategy.
Don't be a Wally this Black Friday
Even though the stats in the past few months have been a little wobbly on the ecommerce front, we’re still expecting our clients to achieve record breaking results this year on Black Friday.
Why?
Because we’ve been laying the groundwork for months now …. and if you’re willing to start putting a few things in place now, you could see a nice pre-Christmas boost in your sales, too.
If you leave it to the last minute, your ads will probably stand out about as much as Wally in the Where’s Wally books …… and if there’s one thing I know, it’s this: when it comes to big shopping days, you DON’T want to get lost in the crowd.
In this episode I'm giving away my top tips for nailing your Black Friday offer. I hope it helps!
Going viral? Great. Love it. Ride the wave if you do.
But TRYING to go viral? I think it's waste of time and energy, often makes you appear like you’re trying too hard, and usually comes at the expense of the actual SERVING of customers and clients in your business.
I discuss the reasons why going viral should NOT be your aim when creating content, in Episode 103 of the Boom Your Biz podcast.
Are you playing small in your business?
If you've been in business for a few years, and you're not experiencing the level of growth you'd like, I have a question for you: are you playing SMALL in your business?
In this episode, I talk about some of the reasons business owners resist playing big in their businesses, plus I give you my three top tips for overcoming resistance.

Companies using their social media beyond their social media channels
I had a weird experience with an ecommerce business the other day.
It started out bad-weird, but when I say they turned it around, I mean they REALLY turned it around.
And how they did it might surprise you.
In this episode, I’m going to discuss how you can use the content you create for your social media channels beyond just posting on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok.
Because if you’re going to put time, effort and money into creating content, why not get the absolute most out of it?
Want to get into Digital Marketing?
The good news is, there are a TON of ways to get your foot in the door.
While most degrees, diplomas and online courses will promote themselves as the ONLY course you need to be able to walk straight into your dream digital marketing job, the truth is there are a LOT of ways to get there.
In this episode, I introduce you to members of my core team, who share how they got started in digital marketing... And spoiler alert? None of them got there the same way!

Generosity as a business strategy
What is the one small thing that - when done well - can set your business apart from your competition? It’s not great value or amazing service, although these things definitely matter… it’s generosity!
I’m not talking about massive giveaways or slashing your price down to the bare bones, either - I’m talking about making generosity part of your culture, and part of the way you operate on a day to day level.
And the best bit? Most of the things I’ll be talking about won’t cost you much, and some, nothing at all.
How we deal with problems now vs. 2 years ago (Lib and Sonya interview)
If you'd told me 18 months ago that making mistakes or dealing with conflict in my business wouldn't faze me, I would have thought you were MAD. But as my business has grown, so have I - and so has my team! In this episode I bring on Lib, my first ever full time hire, who has been with me through a lot of those highs and lows. in our chat, she gives her perspective on how our approach has changed, and why mistakes are vital if you want to grow.
It’s been a BIG couple of weeks in the social media space when it comes to the issue of privacy.
From the Melbourne woman who didn’t consent to being filmed - and misrepresented - in the interest of clickbait content, to the uproar over TikTok’s admission that third party trackers have access to personal data through the platform, it’s got me thinking about privacy online and how we navigate it.
So WHY are platforms like TikTok gathering your data?
How are they using it, and should you be worried?
And when it comes to being the subject of video content, what are the rules when it comes to consent?
In this episode I’m going to take you through all these questions, plus a few more you may not have even considered yet.
We’ve been hearing whispers for a while now about new changes coming to Instagram, and it’s finally happened.
You may not have the new update yet, but it IS coming.
In this episode, I’m going to take you through all the changes, why they're happening, and how small businesses can keep up WITHOUT having to spend hours editing reels and videos.
With more and more businesses opting for a remote work model, it’s not uncommon for some employees to never meet face to face. And while operating remotely has its definite advantages, fostering a strong team culture is something that you can’t leave to chance. In this episode, I’m going to take you through some of the things we do within my agency to make sure every team member feels valued and included, and a few things you may want to consider when you’re trying to build a team culture. Join the Boom Your Biz Group over on Facebook to connect with other business owners and keep the conversation going. Just search “Boom Your Biz” on Facebook.
We’ve been so busy over at Kiss and Linchpin for the past few months, I almost missed my business anniversary! That’s right, we’ve passed a major milestone: 5 years in business.
Statistics show that most businesses FAIL within 5 years, so for me to hit that half-decade milestone - with no sign of slowing down - is a pretty proud moment. And since knowledge is power, I want to share with you the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

Someone once told me that a WordPress website requires maintenance like a car does. You need a regular service or oil change or the whole thing may just blow up. In times of international conflict, it’s important to ensure that the information we receive is accurate, factual and unbiased.
Where we once dutifully turned on the TV at 6pm to catch the news or poured over the newspaper, we now have access to information - and misinformation - from people on the ground, 24 hours a day.
So, how is this so-called “Social Media War” different from previous conflicts? How do we discern what’s real from fake news? And what is UP with the casual racism being thrown around by seasoned reporters and respected journalists? Listen on to hear my thoughts on the situation.

In this episode I chatted with Jess Ruhfus, who you may know as the Founder of Collabosaurus and one of my previous podcast guests. This absolute powerhouse of a woman has launched a product based business - No.2 post-flush perfume drops, a really clever alternative to bathroom sprays.
In this episode, we discuss:
- How Jess managed to make an unsexy product, sexy;
- The difference between marketing product-based and service-based businesses, and
- The unexpected challenges of creating a product and launching a product-based business
There are SO many incredible takeaways from this chat with Jess, and if you've been toying with the idea of launching a physical product, you're going to want to give this one a listen!
What do you do when your brand is caught in the middle of a controversy?
Do you pull a disappearing act like Chanel, or face it head-on like Peloton?
In this episode, I compare these two brands' handling of being thrown into the spotlight unawares and discuss what I would have done in each of these situations.
In my last episode I interviewed a business owner about how she gets her team to show up on social media. In this episode, I’m going to expand on our conversation and give you the framework we give our clients for getting their team to show up online so you can stop being the only one in the business driving the social content.

If you asked me to name three business owners I’ve worked with who get a lot done, Rebecca Miller would probably be right at the top of that list. Not only does she run two successful medispa businesses, she’s the creator of a 12 week online program and is a business coach, mentor and speaker. Did I mention that she also has three kids and a husband, and is really active in her business community, too?
Not only does she work incredibly hard, Bec has put the systems and processes in place to empower her team to take ownership of certain aspects of her businesses - and one of those aspects is social media. If you follow La Bella Medispa or La Bella Medispa Orange on Instagram, you’ll see the friendly (and flawless) faces of her team, showing up almost daily on stories and reels. In this episode, I discuss with Bec how she got her team not only excited about showing up on Instagram, but consistent about it.

If you've followed me for a while, you'll know that last year I experienced some pretty significant business owner burnout. In my research into all things burnout recovery, I came across Naturopath (and incredible businesswoman) Vesna Hrsto.
As a marketer, I have been SO impressed by Vesna's sale funnel, the format of her programs and the way that everything just flows beautifully in her business. You wouldn't even know that when she first changed her business model she hated marketing!
In this episode we discuss the causes of burnout, tips and tricks for getting back on track after burnout hits you, and the ONE thing you need to get under control before anything else if you want any burnout-specific nutritional or lifestyle protocols to work.
We also discuss how Vesna transitioned her busines from a one-on-one clinical model to a successful online course empire, and she gives tips for other women in service-based industries who want to get out from behind the desk or chair and create more freedom and felxibility in their business.

Christmas can be one of the most profitable periods of the year, but how do you, as a small business, get in on the action? The easy answer is: promotions.

.What do you do when all your competitors are running low-barrier-to-entry offers, to the point where heavy discounts become the industry norm and almost a requisite to do business? Do you jump on the bandwagon and join them - even though it means your bottom line takes a hit? Do you even NEED to offer discount promotions? How can you position your business as a high end service, thus negating the need for regular discounts and offers? In this solo episode, I take you through the concept and give you my two cents on LBEOs: * Why you need to think beyond the basics * The sales psychology behind offering discounts (or not offering them) * Why you need to know your desired outcome * And when it's appropriate (and sometimes necessary!) to roll out a low-barrier-to-entry offer.
