How much emphasis do you place on looking after yourself in relation to having a successful business.
We tend to try and look after lots of other things before we look after ourselves, yet the equation about who is the most important human part of a business that contributes to success, is the business owner, yet they get the least amount of attention.

Normally, something seems expensive to somebody if they don't see the value.
So really, expensive is different to one person compared to the next. So it really depends on who you are talking to as to whether what you're offering is expensive or not. So that goes to who you choose to attract into your business.

In this episode of the Builders Business Success Podcast we cover the detrimental impact free quotes have and why it can destroy a business.
We're also doing the Q&A and the Idea Of The Week, where we are closely relating it to doing paid proposals over free.
In this episode the problem that is being addressed is how to get the most out of your triage conversation and why it's one of the most important things to get right in your business.
We're also going to address the question of "how do I get my customers to call back"?
And of course, idea of the week. We're we give you a valuable idea to implement and this week it's pretty significant.
In this episode the question that has been asked is what if I lose the job on price?
So we’re going to address that because that is a common question. If I’m not price competitive and I lose the work, what then?
And of course, idea of the week. we’re going to have an idea of the week simply so we can get a close up of the light bulb that floats in air. So the most important thing that we get a shot of the floating light bulb.
We normally do some content and then we have the Q&A, and then we have an idea of the week, so it can get a shot of our light floating light bulb, not this week.
I thought we'd sort of lighten the mood a little bit and get it into a little bit of edutainment, might be, or there might be some other fancy words for it, but a little bit of entertainment and civic and learn something along the way.
So we're going to speak to a very, very special guest that we recorded an interview with earlier in the week.
Today primarily the whole podcast is gonna be talking to Mike Michalowicz. He is the author of a number of books.
He’s got about six books out. He’s most recent book is “Fix This Next”, we’ll be talking to him about that in our conversation.
I think he’s most well known for a book called “Profit First”. It’s such a powerful book, that we’ve Builders Business Blackbelt, the Profit First System, is a requirement.
What we’re gonna cover today is, why your product isn’t the building that you do.
Also gonna answer a very commonly asked question that I get from lots of builders. And I’m going to share with you a personal productivity hack.
I’m talking about the number one reason why building businesses struggle and often fail, the number one reason.
We’re also gonna do the Q&A to a question that we get asked a lot and it’s generally about, how do I get off the tools?
Also gonna be sharing with you as usual, a personal productivity hack so you can get more done in less time and feel good about it.
So today I’m just going to outline the Builders Business Blackbelt business model. So it’s gonna be like a 35,000 foot overview of the four major parts of the Builders Business Blackbelt business model.
And give a bit of an understanding as to why we have a focus on specific things rather than looking at things in the traditional way.
Also gonna do a Q&A, we’ve got a question lined up that we get asked all of the time. So I wanna answer that in this episode of the podcast.
And I’ve got another Personal Productivity Hack for you also.
Today’s session is all about the upcoming scenario, that you’re either in already or about to be very, very soon. And that is the silly season where everybody needs everything done by Christmas.
We won’t be doing the Q and A, we won’t be doing the idea of the week, but we will give you a shot of the floating light bulb. ‘Cause it’s pretty amazing.
It’s just basically going to be this no holiday hangover.
We're gonna be talking about growing a team, developing a team within your business and the value, the cost savings, the benefits of doing that versus I guess how most do and try and find experienced people and so forth.
We are gonna do Q&A and then I've got a fantastic idea of the week and we have idea of the week so we can get a shot of our floating light bulb.
We're gonna be talking about, as I said, understanding the leverage component of your time, how to leverage your time significantly better. So you get a great investment on your time and your effort because I find most builders don't.
They work hard, but they don't get the reward. They get stress, they get time taken away from them. They get their time wasted. They don't get respect.
Q and A as well. I'm gonna talk about the best time management tool in the world, on the planet, in the universe.
And of course, idea of the week. We have an idea of the week so we can show you our floating light bulb. And not gonna tell you what the idea of the week is, it's gonna be a surprise, but well worth sticking around to get.
The topic today, what I'm talking about is if you want to be successful, don't do what the majority do.
There's lots of statistics quoted, years ago, it used to be 80% of businesses, small businesses would fail within the first five years and there's a lot of talk that it's closer to sort of 90% of businesses failing in the first three years now and that doesn't surprise me because we tend to follow what the majority is doing and that's really the topic of this podcast is if you want to be successful don't do that.
I'm also gonna do Q&A and you want to hang around for that if you're a little bit frustrated by prospects not responding to you after you've done a quote or something like that and then you get ghosted. If you want to have some answers about how to prevent that.
And, of course, we've got an idea of the week simply so we can show you a picture of our floating light bulb. No other reason but maybe the idea might be a value. I suspect it might be.
So what is on the agenda for this particular episode? We're going to be talking about stress.
In particular, in the building industry, it creates a lot of stress. Now I'm gonna use the word distress because I think that there is a difference between stress being positive and stress being negative.
The question we're gonna address in the Q and A is eliminating interruption. So we had a question, we had lots of questions, but this particular question is all about how to eliminate interruptions. You all get 'em. And sometimes interruptions cause stress.
We've got idea of the week simply so he can get a shot of our floating light bulb and give you a useful idea.
So the topic of this here podcast is just being aware of who you hang around with and the effect of who you hang around with, not only to your business, but to your life.
Start to be a lot more consciously aware of who you hang around with and how much time that you spend with those different types of people.
Also, I've got a Q and A, and the question is around cashflow. And cashflow problem seems to be a very, very common question. We get asked this all of the time, so I will be answering it yet again, perhaps with a different flavour.
And then of course, idea of the week.
But really, the main reason we have idea of the week is just so we can get a shot of the floating light bulb, because it's fascinating.
We're gonna be talking about shifting that mindset from builders, from the owner of a building business, to more of an entrepreneurial mindset.
Also got Q and A, and based on last week, we talked about the effective hourly rate. And so someone's asked a question, how do I improve my effective hourly rate? They sort of sounded like a good thing, but was sort of at a loss as to how do they improve their effective hourly rate.
And also we've got an idea of the week.
This particular episode is about a measurement, a key performance indicator. I think it's one of the most profound measurements that is probably not even known about by most builders, let alone measured. And the old saying is, what gets measured gets managed. Couldn't be any more true in this particular case.
There is also the Q & A. The question in this episode is all about how do you deal with I suppose, a problem team member? And the particular question that was asked was someone who turns up late. But I think that the answer will be able to help you with no matter what the problem is with a problem team member.
And of course, we're gonna do the idea of the week.
Today's session is all about the upcoming scenario, that you're either in already or about to be very, very soon. And that is the silly season where everybody needs everything done by Christmas.
We won't be doing the Q and A, we're not gonna do the idea of the week. It's just basically going to be this no holiday hangover.
In this episode, I wanna share with you a better understanding of priority. And the reason I want to is because there's lots of ways to screw this up and it can lead to low productivity. It could lead to low effectiveness or ineffectiveness, and it also leads to high levels of stress, which is all unnecessary.
I hope that through this episode, I'm gonna be able to give you a perception of it that's quite simplified, easy to implement, I think, once you've wrapped your head around it.
We'll also be doing Q and A as per usual. The question that is being asked, how do I get more work? Because I need more money is the question. So we'll be covering that one and also idea of the week.
Going to be talking about putting your own oxygen mask on first. Now that is obviously a metaphor. If you've ever flown on a plane, if you can remember back in the days, when we used to fly on planes, they used to do an announcement and they said, put your own oxygen mask on first, before you help anybody else.
We're gonna talk about how that affects your, the success of your building business, the enjoyment, the profitability, the efficiency, the effectiveness, all of those cool things about your building business. If you understand this metaphor and you do something about it.
Of course, we're going to do Q and A: How do we eliminate the time-wasters?
There are people that thieve your time that steal your time. Some do it unknowingly others do it on purpose.
Of course, we've got an idea of the week. The reason we have idea of the week is because I found a floating light bulb and we just needed to get, create a reason to get a shot of it.
Now in this particular episode gonna be talking about something that can be profoundly effective or otherwise in a building business in fact, any business but particularly affects building businesses.
It's something that we've found that can cause the majority of business failure. If your business doesn't fail it can cause a hell of a lot of unnecessary problem and unnecessary pain and a focus on it makes everything so much better.
Also going to have Q and A and the question is being asked again I know we've covered it before but how much should I charge for a quote? So we're going to address that.
And then I've got the idea of the week simply so we can give you a shot of a floating light bulb.
The topic of this particular episode is optimism versus pessimism.
One of the things that I hear a lot having conversations with builders is that might be okay there, but that won't work here in my region, in my environment.
It's got nothing to do with the area of the region, the people, all of that sort of thing. It's got to do with what's in between your ear.
We're also gonna do a Q and A. The question that was raised this week was, how do I get my prospects and clients to listen to me?
We've got an idea of the week as well. Otherwise, there'd be no point in having a floating light bulb. So we're gonna be covering an idea of the week as well.
In this episode we dive into how the building industry norms have hypnotised you to believe in the most absurd myths on how you should be running your building business, and how your thinking can completely change that.
We're also doing a Q&A and "Idea of the week".
What are we talking about today?
This week it's, what is your product? Knowing what your product is, is really up there as far as priority is concerned, it should be something that you're very clear about, that you talk about, refine, enhance every single day with yourself and your team.
Q&A. There's a question about how to incentivize staff. So I'm gonna be dressing that question. How do you incentivize your team members to get better productivity from the team?
Also we'll be covering the idea of the week, the only reason that we have a segment idea of the week is because I came across this floating light bulb and I thought we've got to use it.
The topic of conversation is this question, what is your priority?
I'm gonna unpack that a little bit so you can understand why I'm being so pedantic in saying priority instead of priorities.
There's a big difference in how things work out if you can understand this concept.
We've got a Q and A as well. The question is, how do we manage the phone inquiry? Because I'm finding that it is a bit of a distraction and energy interruptions because the phone rings at the most inopportune times.
The idea of the week, this week is all about your portable camera crew.
In this particular episode, it's gonna be a little bit different to what you're used to.
We won't be doing that the Q&A and the idea of the week and that, but because we've got a floating light bulb, what we're going to be presenting to you today in this podcast as a really great idea.
And that is, one of the things we always talk about is when you've got an issue, when you wanna change, improve something about your business, the key question is not to ask how do I do it, but who can I find that can either do it for me or help me do it?
What we're gonna be doing today is the summary of our program from start to finish.
It is stuff that's been implemented, tested, trialed, refined. Stuff that doesn't work, we've figured out how to work it or make it work or change how we do things, so it does work.
We're also gonna do a Q and A.
And of course, we're gonna do an idea of the week as well.
This particular episode, we're gonna be talking about a thing called the prioritized daily action list.
Of course, we're gonna do Q&A, the question we're going to address is, someone asked about helping them with the admin side of things, because they said that the admin activity tends to bite them on the butt.
And of course we have our idea of the week, and it's a pretty cool idea that I think is going to free up some time for you, and potentially eliminate some frustration for you.
So we're going to talk about how this personal success ritual can make a massive difference to your own productivity, how you feel your mindset, the outcomes that you can accomplish on a daily basis.
Of course, we're going to do Q and a, and of course, we're going to use our floating light bulb here for the idea of the week.
And so we'll be definitely sharing a fantastic idea with you.
This podcast might be a little different. We normally do a Q and A and we have an idea of the week and all of that, but I don't want to go over time and I don't want to cut short the value you can get from understanding "Profit First".
So to me "Profit First" can and if implemented properly will eliminate your money stress. And that just means that you'll be able to complain about other things.
Then you'll have other problems, but at least this one will go away and it can go away depending on, on how committed you are.
So what we are talking about today is how to scale a business without the stress.
We're gonna also do a Q and A.
And of course, idea of the week with the new floating light bulb.
We're gonna be talking about sharing the focus of your business with your team.
I'm also gonna talk about who I believe is in your team and the key with sharing the focus of your business, the purpose of your business, with your team in your extended team can have a profound effect on pretty much everything in your business and in the business of your subcontractors and suppliers.
We're also gonna be having our standard Q&A and the question that was asked this week was, "How do you find good subcontractors?"
Of course, we'll be doing the personal productivity hack as well.
What we're sharing today is, how to build and maintain a high performance team.
In the Q and A we're gonna talk about, which sort of fits in nicely as well. How to recruit good team members. Like where do we find the the great people for our business?
Of course we're gonna do a personal productivity hack as well.
What we're up to today is the power of procedures. And what I'm gonna be sharing with you is the value that procedures can bring your business.
The Q and A in this episode is going to be about how to spot time-wasters.
And ofcourse there will be a special personal productivity hack aswell.
So this episode is focused on how to get paid premium prices rather than competing on price because that's just a race to the bottom.
Q and A, today is a question that was asked this week by somebody. And they said, how do I manage difficult clients?
We've got a personal productivity hack for you as well.
In this particular episode, we're talking about the part of the process where you deliver the proposal because so many, like I cannot believe how many builders still will email or post or somehow remotely get the quote into their prospect's hands rather than doing it in person. And so much is lost, from everybody.
In the Q&A today is coming from a question that's been asked quite a few times, but it got asked again this week is, "How do I get noticed?
Like how do you get your messaging noticed in the the massive amount of noise and messages and ads and so forth out there? How do I cut through?"
We’re also doing the standard personal productivity hack for you.
We're unpacking the initial meeting and it's part of our process that we call the quality client pathway.
Q and A or the question that we're gonna talk about is connected to the, the main topic of the initial meeting.
And it's Why people won't pay for your quote.
We're gonna do a personal productivity hack as well.
Today what we're covering is behavioral hurdles and just like a, a hurdle race, you've got hurdles in front of your prospects to get them to jump over.
So they don't go to the next step. And it's a massive time-saver. But it's not just creating hurdles, it's all about education too. And we'll cover that.
We're gonna do a Q and A session as per normal. And the question we're going to talk about is how much to charge for a quote.
We'll also be giving you a personal productivity hack showing you how to get a lot more done, in a lot less time, with a lot less effort.
What are we covering today?
The first segment is talking about educate and offer or educate, don't qualify. And it's all about the qualification process in Black Belt we call it the quality client pathway and it literally is a pathway that you take clients down to turn them into a better quality client.
It's not about finding good quality clients, it's about a process where you educate, give them control, so they become good quality clients. Makes things much, much easier.
Of course, we're going to have the standard Q and A as well. The question that we're going to cover today is how do you compete with the Cowboys and the volume builders?
How, how can we compete with those guys? The Cowboys don't have the expenses, the volume builders have volume.
And then of course, we're going to give you a personal productivity hack as well.
So the agenda for this particular episode is all about creating a successful, a reliable lead generation strategy.
In Builders Business Blackbelt we call it an attract strategy.
If you watch the previous episodes, we've unpacked why we use the word attract instead of marketing or instead of lead generation because it completely changes your focus and your priority as to where you put your effort and what becomes important than other things to be able to attract the right type of projects and the right type of people to your building business.
We'll also be covering the Q and A.
We always get a question asked that we want to answer through the podcast questions that's asked during the week. And as usual I'll be sharing with you a personal productivity hack.
One of the challenges that every builder has is they seem to be strapped for time. And the cool thing is I've been in this space for over three decades.
So I've got a whole lot to share with you on how you can become more personally productive, get more freedom, time freedom.
The focus of today's episode is really all about knowing your ideal prospect intimately with the great deal of detail.
We're also going to answer a very common question.
And one of the most common questions is how do I get more leads?
I'm also going to give you a personal productivity hack so you can get more effective activity outcomes results done in your day.
In today’s episode we're gonna start talking about the attract strategy.
The attract strategy is a replacement for marketing. Marketing tends to just get people to think about advertising, but it is so much more.
So we use the word attract and there is a bunch of questions you need to ask yourself to get a relevant attract strategy and we'll cover that.
We've also got a Q and A, we've also got a personal productivity hack in this episode.
So in this particular episode, we're gonna be talking about where to start. You might think, well, that's a bit of a strange topic, but I've already started. Why do I need to start again?
Well, you don't need to start again, but you might need to take it fresh approach to what you focus on and how you think about your business.
We're also gonna be doing Q&A, of course.
And I'm gonna be sharing with you toward the end of the show a personal productivity hack.
Today's episode is all about the introduction for the new book. And why you should listen to me. Why we should even bother doing this. What are the benefits?
What are the things that are going to change in your building business?
We've also got our standard Q and A.
So I'm gonna be answering a question that is, a current discussion in the Builders Business Success Forum, Facebook group.
We're gonna be talking about that question. Or addressing that question.
And of course, we've got our personal productivity hack as well.
So today I'm just going to outline the Builders Business Blackbelt business model. So it's gonna be like a 35,000 foot overview of the four major parts of the Builders Business Blackbelt business model.
And a bit of an understanding as to why we have a focus on specific things rather than looking at things in the traditional way.
Gonna do a Q&A, we've got a question lined up that we get asked all of the time.
And I've got another Personal Productivity Hack for you also.
In this particular episode, I'm talking about the number one reason why building businesses struggle and often fail, the number one reason.
We're also gonna do the Q&A to a question that we get asked a lot and it's generally about, how do I get off the tools?
I hear what you're saying, I need to implement all of these things but I'm on the tools, how do I get off the tools?
So I'm gonna be answering that question and also gonna be sharing with you as usual, a personal productivity hack so you can get more done in less time and feel good about it.
And I say that because more often than you would believe when we teach particularly our Builders Business Blackbelt members, the techniques to be able to become more personally effective and get a whole lot more done.
In this particular episode, the focus is really on the purpose of the business.
Like, what are we doing this for?
Because you would have to agree if you've been running your own business for any length of time you probably get presented with some problems from time to time, some stress, some unsatisfactory results, perhaps.
And that wasn't what we signed up for when we created our business but it is a big part of it so I want to address that.
Of course, we're going to do a Q&A and it's going to be relevant to what we're talking about and I'm going to give you a personal productivity hack as well.
So what we're covering today is this question of ask who not how.
It's a real important mind shift to start to give you more time and financial freedom in your business and get rid of a lot of unnecessary stress that is created from time pressure and being under the pump. I'd like to know what this pump is that people keep talking about but you know what I mean.
I'm gonna do Q and A. There's a commonly asked question, that I'm gonna be answering it again in this episode and please stay tuned for that because it can save you a bit of money and a bunch of effort that's unnecessary, the answer to that question.
And of course, we're gonna give you a personal productivity hack as well.
I'm going to talk about something, that I used to teach over 35 years ago. Used to do a course, a half day course that people would keep coming back to every month and it was called Coach Any Dummy to Succeed Even Yourself.
And one of the Laws of Success that we would teach in that half-day course, was the Law of Never Ending Improvement and I'm not laying any claim to inventing it, finding it, anything like that, I'm just sharing it with you because it can make a profound difference.
A question that we get asked that I'm going to answer in our Q and a section, in this episode is, "How to deal with people who say no, when you say that we charge for proposals." That's a pretty common one.
And of course we're going to cover a personal productivity hack so you can get more done in less time and get more time to do the things that you really enjoy doing.
This episode is the second in a series of, master the basics episodes that we are doing.
It's super important, I believe to really master the basics.
We're also gonna do our Q and A.
And this particular question was a bit interesting headed a couple of times.
And in fact, just spoke to one of our builders business black belt members about this very thing.
And that is, those home type shows good for lead generation where you show up. And you've got a booth and all of the people around looking at all of the different bits and bulbs in relation to building are they good lead generation opportunities?
And of course, we're gonna have a personal productivity hack
So in this particular episode we're going to be talking about focusing on the basics.
My suspicion is that there's gonna be a few of these, this is kind of gonna be a series of episodes of the podcast on the basics and the basics that we're going to be talking about today, are super frustrating, super powerful when you get them right and super easy also.
And it's all about how you're dealing with the expectations of your prospects and your clients.
I'm also going to be answering a very commonly asked question, and that is, which is the best builders software to use when you're running your projects.
And of course we're going to be doing another personal productivity hack.
In this particular episode, talking about avoiding, what we call random hacks of marketing. It is something that we've done for a long time. Most builders do it.
Also, in the Q and A section in this episode, the question that we get so much, is how do we get more leads?
Not necessarily going to give you the answer that you'd want but I'm going to give you the answer, that you need to address that question.
And of course we're gonna do the personal productivity hack.
The podcast in this particular episode, gonna be covering a mindset shift.
And when this mindset shift occurs, it changes the relationship between you and your prospects, you and your clients. It makes your business far more enjoyable and it gets rid of a bunch of problems.
I'm going to be talking about that mindset shift.
Last episode, we covered a question about, how do you find good staff? In this episode, I'll be giving you part two I guess of the answer to that question all about recruiting team members.
And of course, we're going to cover another personal productivity hack as well.
So, in this particular episode of the podcast, I want to unpack this question that I ask quite regularly in our Facebook group.
And the question is, which person, which human contributes most towards the success of the building businesses is it the customer, is it the team, or is it the owner?
Very rarely, in fact I can't remember the last time someone answered it, what I would call correctly.
So, I want to unpack that and explain why it's a one of those questions that most people get wrong and it can really change your business fortunes when you get the answer right.
Going to do a Q and A, the question that we get asked all of the time is, how do we find reliable staff? So I'm going to unpack that question and give you some answers as well.
Going to have a personal productivity hack because if you're like most builders, you work long hours, you can get quite distressed about the amount of work that you need to do and not being able to to do the things you really wanna do.
I'm gonna be talking about the single biggest mistake nearly all builders make and it costs a ton of money, stress, and time.
So, I'm gonna be unpacking that so you can hopefully implement these ideas into your business straight away and start to see the benefit.
Also, a question that we got sent to us just this week gonna be addressing that question in our Q&A section.
Again gonna give you a personal productivity hack and the old business saying was "the fish rots from the head."
So, what we're gonna cover today is why your product isn't the building that you do.
Also gonna answer a very commonly asked question that I get from lots of builders. And instead of the normal tech tip or the book review that would, we've done in the past, what I'm going to share with you is a personal productivity hack.
So in this episode, we'll be talking to Cherie Dance.
Now, Cherie and her husband Phil have a building business down in Tas. Phil's been in the building business for 30 odd years had their own business for 10 years. And you'll hear the story when Cherie tells it.
Cherie, Phil's wife also is a licensed builder which is kind of unique. You don't get that very often. So they both have their own building license and Cherie looks after all of the admin and the new customers and all of that sort of stuff.
Obviously, Phil is onsite and they came through our Blueprint to Black Belt Program around about six odd months ago and they were all but ready to chuck it in. And Phil actually found us in a hospital bed. So I'll let Cherie tell that story.
We’’ll also be doing a Q and A. One important question that we get asked all of the time we'll be answering that.
So as usual we're going to have the standard stuff, we're gonna have Q&A, we're gonna have “What’d I Say?”.
And in this particular episode we're talking with Andrew Pearse, he's a partner and director in JADCO Homes, up in the Blue Mountains or in Penrith in New South Wales.
He's one of our Builders Business Blackbelt members, he and his business partner Jeff came through our Blueprint program.
These guys have done exceptionally well in that first 12 weeks are invited to apply for the Builders Business Blackbelt. They were successful. They've been in Blackbelt for a little while, and they're really, really kicking goals.
So in this particular episode where we're speaking to our special guest, Katie Crismale and she has written a book called Profit First For Tradies.
So you may well be aware of Profit First, Mike Michalowicz. This is a spinoff of that. Mike has done the foreword to this particular book. Katie is a profit first professional.
I asked her to come on the podcast and share what the differences are with implementing the standard profit first straight out of Mike's book into a trade based business because there are some challenges.
We're also going to be doing another excerpt from our conversations. We have a daily conversation with our Builders Business Blackbelt members, the daily momentum call, where we share wins, share lessons, ask questions and it really ramps up the speed of progress for the guys that participate in that, and in every show often I have something that's worth repeating, and we're going to throw one of those little gems hopefully, into the conversation today.
We're gonna answer a very commonly asked question in our Q&A section. So, it's a pretty action packed episode.
So in this show, I'm talking to a very cool dude from Western Australia, his name's Andy Kearns.
He's one of our Builders Business Blackbelt members. And the reason that I thought we'd talked to Andy is, to give you guys that are listening to this, a bit of an insight into the journey that he has made, and the issues that caused him to seek us out and the challenges that he's had along the way.
Because it's not as simple and easy and wonderful, is just getting some business coaching and everything's all right.
We also have a Q & A and our classic segment “What’d I Say?”.
In this episode, I'm speaking to a lady by the name of Stephanie Campanella.
She works in the digital space for trades people in marketing.
Of course we have the regular segment of What'd I Say, where i said something valuable whilst in a call with our members.
Also going to answer a question that's commonly asked, all sort of ties together with the theme of this show.
If you've never been a part of the Builder's Business Success Podcast, the purpose of this show is to address the challenges, the common problems that cost time, that cost money, cause frustration, and it's all very, very common in the building business. And there are solutions, and we talk about the solutions in every single show.
I've got one of our Builders Business Blackbelt members. He's an absolute pocket rocket, young fellow. He's only about 26 years old, been in business for almost four years, already.
So, we're gonna be talking to, Joel he's gonna be talking about his challenges and his struggles with the marketing side of the business and doing video.
We've got a really action packed show for you this week. Our special guest is Ian Segail. He's a good buddy of mine.
He's going to be sharing with us some really cool stuff. He's written a very amazing book. It looks like a kid's book, but it's actually for adults and we'll be talking to him about that.
It's gonna be super helpful for you, particularly if you get stressed, if you feel pressure, if you perhaps behave or respond to things in a way that you don't want to and would like to change that, this is gonna be super helpful.
The camera's were rolling again, as they do each week when we're having a conversation with our Builders Business Blackbelt members.
And we want to give you a window to that conversation in what I say.
Also, we're going to answer a very common question that we get asked all the time by builders in our Q & A.
So in this week's episode, talking to a very cool dude, he's a really good friend of mine.
His name is James Cooper, he's an absolute legend when it comes to video, creating video, creating magnetic video, video that gets you on the edge of your seat and gets people to really engage and tell powerful stories through video.
In this day and age, it is the single most important part of an effective marketing strategy for any business, but in particular, a building business.
Looking forward to picking James's brain and giving you some ideas on what you can do to help you make your video marketing significantly more effective.
We're also going to drop into a bit of what do I say and the camera's rolling just in case I said something valuable, it turns out that I did.
Also, there's a very common question that I get asked all the time. We're gonna cover that in our Q&A section.
The point of this conversation is to give you some proof from some people who believe that, or were experiencing those problems of price checkers, time wasters, people always being focused on price. And from some builders who never ever thought it was possible to get paid for a quote.
There's a lot of, I guess common beliefs out there in the building industry. And a lot of those common beliefs are at the core of a lot of the problems, the pain, the frustration, the difficulty of running a building business.
We're talking to a buddy of mine, his name's Paul Purdon. He runs, a shed franchise down here in Tasmania.
He's been with, the Builder's Business Blackbelt, for about 150 years.
He's one of our longest suffering members and he certainly learned a lot and he's got a lot to share.
Of course we've got the regulars, the, “What’s I Say” segment where I said something valuable when is a conversation with some of our members during the week.
Gonna do a tech review. This, is something quite simple, very inexpensive, that can take a lot of activity off your plate and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of your business.
Also got a Q and A, that is gonna make a big difference, when you use this idea and implement it into your business.
I've got a conversation with Greg Layton, he's the Chief Maker, if you look up Chief Maker on the Interwebs in Melbourne, you'll learn all about Greg.
We're gonna be talking to him about his approach to success and helping CEOs of large organizations.
You might be thinking, but why are we talking to Greg about building if he works with CEOs, is because the principles are the same. management principles are the same, psychology with success of a business is the same.
And it's really interesting to get a slightly different perspective from somebody else to apply it to your business, so are we talking to Greg in this episode.
Of course, we're gonna go with ‘What’d I Say’, we were fortunate enough to capture something that was worthwhile sharing with you during the week.
I'm gonna be answering a question that a lot of builders ask and the answer just might surprise you.
Gonna be talking to an amazing dude, his name's Brandon T. Adams.
He's an amazing guy that has his own TV show, sold everything with his girlfriend, up and took off and went to all of these different countries in the United States to create this TV show.
We're gonna talk to Brandon about what success means. It's a really important conversation, can't wait for you to hear that. Also going to be doing a book review. And I think this is one of the most profound messages that I've read in a long, long time. And I can't wait to share that with you.
Of course, we're doing the, What Did I Say? The cameras are rolling just in case I said something worthwhile. Fortunately this week, I seem to be doing it about once a week, I'll say something worthwhile.
I've also got a question that's asked quite often, and it's gonna save you a whole bunch of time, wasted time and money. Because when you save time, you'll generally save money as well. So that's what we're gonna be covering in this show.
Our special guest is none other than old mate Glenn Bull. Have had quite a few conversations with Glenn. He's a really good mate of mine, known him for a long, long time.
He's a very successful property developer builder and it's one of those rare builders that makes a good business doing that sort of thing.
It's not as easy as you think. A big chunk of it is to do with your philosophy and what you put into your mind. That's what I'm going to talk to him about because he does an absolute exceptional job of standing guard at the entrance of his mind and it's had a profound effect on his business.
We've got the "What did I say?", had the camera's rolling just in case I said something useful.
I've got a really kick arse tech review. You've got to hang around for the tech review. I hope you're gonna be watching this version 'cause it's gonna to be a bit of a visual tech review, but I'll do my very best to explain it so it makes sense for those listening just on the audio only.
We're doing our Q and A, so I'm going to be covering a very, very common question that the answer will make a big difference to any building business.
The Interview
I've got a terrific conversation with a buddy of mine, his name's James Swanwick.
This episode is all about you. It's all about the change and the improvements that we can make to our business just by changing what we do and what we think, because we're always looking for improvements for our business, but we tend to look outside of ourselves at systems and procedures and how to make our team better and all that sort of thing. But we never really look inwards and go, Well, what can we change?
Here's the scoop folks is that there is nothing more powerful, nothing more high leverage toward the success or otherwise of a business, than the business owner themselves.
We're gonna have a chat with James Swanwick, about changing some habits. And I think you'll be pretty perhaps confronted, but interested in some things that he's gonna talk about that perhaps you didn't know.
The Regular Segments
Today primarily the whole podcast is gonna be talking to Mike Michalowicz. He is the author of a number of books. He's got about six books out. He's most recent book is "Fix This Next", we'll be talking to him about that in our conversation.
