Today on the Reel Show: A treasure hunt, a revenge vow, a noble sacrifice, unrequited love and more than a passing nod to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise – we were promised a swashbuckling Doctor Who Easter special, and it partially delivered. You don’t often get to see the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) sword fighting, we’ve never seen the Tardis open her doors like that underwater before, and there was a satisfyingly huge sea beast for good measure. But it all ended up slightly less exciting than that sounds on paper.
It was easier to warm to this episode from the second act onwards, once they had boarded the ships of the Sea Devils. The opening sequence in the village seemed very disjointed. It was raining in the village, but not on the beach, and there didn’t seem to be any set-up for the part with the Tardis crew trapping the Sea Devil in a net, Scooby-Doo style. It was as if five minutes of the episode was missing. The only times “Legend of the Sea Devils” rises above its script and direction are the scenes that progress the Doctor and Yaz’s relationship—and even these scenes are marred because of their placement within the episode.

Tonight on the Reel Show: WrestleMania 38, was the 38th annual WrestleMania professional wrestling live event produced by WWE. It was held for wrestlers from the promotion Raw and SmackDown brand divisions. The event aired on pay-per-view (PPV) worldwide and was available to stream through Peacock in the United States and the WWE Network internationally. It was held as a two-night event, taking place on April 2 and 3, 2022, at the AT&T Stadium in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex city of Arlington, Texas.
The card comprised a total of 16 matches, with seven on the first night and nine on the second. In an impromptu match that served as the main event for Night 1, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin defeated Kevin Owens in a No Holds Barred match, marking Austin's first match since WrestleMania XIX. Other prominent matches saw a returning Cody Rhodes defeat Seth "Freakin" Rollins, Charlotte Flair defeated Ronda Rousey to retain the SmackDown Women's Championship, and Bianca Belair defeated Becky Lynch to win the Raw Women's Championship.

Tonight on the Reel Show: Day and Knight! Moon Knight is an American television miniseries created by Jeremy Slater for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics featuring the character of the same name. It is the sixth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to be produced by Marvel Studios, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise.
Slater serves as head writer with Mohamed Diab leading the directing team. Oscar Isaac stars as Marc Spector / Moon Knight, a mercenary who has dissociative identity disorder, with one of his identities being Steven Grant, a mild-mannered British gift-shop employee suffering from blackouts and memories of another life. Moon Knight, the supernatural hero that serves the will of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. He claims Khonshu wants him to be the "moon's knight", the left "Fist of Khonshu", redeeming Marc Spector’s life of violence by now protecting and avenging the innocent.
Also starring May Calamawy, Karim El-Hakim, F. Murray Abraham, and Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow.

Tonight on the Reel Show: The 94th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, honored the best films released between March 1 and December 31, 2021, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 27, 2022, by presenting Academy Awards to the winners.
CODA won all three awards it was nominated for, including Best Picture, becoming the first film distributed by a streaming service (Apple TV+), the first Sundance film premiere, and the first film featuring predominantly deaf actors in leading roles to win Best Picture. Jane Campion became the third woman to win Best Director and the second consecutive after Chloé Zhao in 2021, as well as the first woman to win Academy Awards for both directing and screenwriting. The Power of the Dog became the first film to win Best Director with no other awards since The Graduate in 1968.
Controversy ensued when actor Will Smith walked onstage and slapped comedian Chris Rock in the face during the ceremony, after Rock made a joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. The incident received heavy news coverage and largely overshadowed the rest of the ceremony.

I just thought i would say a thank yToday on the Reel Show: cue the theme music it’s time for Mortal Kombat! As oft of the video game themed month of March, Mortal Kombat 11 is a 2019 fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Upon release, the console versions of Mortal Kombat 11 received generally favorable reviews, which praised the gameplay, story, graphics, and improved netcode. Following Shinnok's defeat, Dark Raiden plans to protect Earthrealm by destroying all of its enemies and making an example of Shinnok; decapitating him. This latter act inspires Kronika, Shinnok's mother and the keeper of time, to rewrite history in order to erase Raiden's interference. Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Raiden appear at the Earthrealm's Special Forces HQ after forging an alliance with Kotal Kahn while Jade and Kitana aid Kotal in protecting Outworld from Kronika's forces. This week on the Reel Show, it’s another episode of the video game themed month, and the Reel Guys are looking back into Star Wars BattleFront 2 for ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ - Kenobi is an upcoming new television miniseries created for the streaming service Disney+, featuring the Star Wars character of the same name. Set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), the series is directed by Deborah Chow, with Joby Harold serving as showrunner. Ewan McGregor is executive producer and stars as the title character, reprising his role from the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, and Bonnie Piesse also reprise their roles from the prequel trilogy. The project originated as a spin-off film to be written by Hossein Amini and directed by Stephen Daldry, but it was reworked as a limited series by Amini. McGregor was confirmed to be starring in August 2019, and Chow was hired to direct a month later. Obi-Wan Kenobi is scheduled to premiere on May 25, 2022, and will consist of six episodes. As the crisis continues to unfold in Ukraine and the pressure on neighboring countries becomes almost unbearable following the exodus of so many citizens, a call is going out to residents in North Kesteven in Lincolnshire to open their homes to those displaced.

Today on the Reel Show - it’s the Month of March, and that means Video Games! To go along with the release of The Batman, the Reel Guys play DC fighting game, Injustice 2! Injustice 2 is a 2017 fighting video game based upon the DC Universe. It is developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It is the sequel to 2013's Injustice: Gods Among Us. The core gameplay remains similar to its predecessor, albeit with minor adjustments to returning game mechanics. Injustice 2's storyline centers around Batman and his insurgency's attempt to restore society after the fall of Superman's Regime. The base roster for Injustice 2 includes 28 playable fighters, consisting of both new and returning heroes and villains. Each character has five equipment slots for donning new costume pieces, which include their head, torso, arms, legs, and an accessory; two ability slots for equipping new or modified special attacks; and one shader slot for altering their color scheme. A special-day on the Reel Show, as the Reel Guys embark on a journey back into The Galaxy Far Far Away, to Star Wars: Battlefront! Star Wars: Battlefront is a series of first- and third-person shooter video games based on the Star Wars films. Players take the role of soldiers in either of two opposing armies in different time periods of the Star Wars universe. Maps take place in the Star Wars galaxy, with battlezones varying in theme and size. In playing ‘Galactic Assault’ the rules are as follows: Across the battlefield are multiple "command posts" (objectives) that act as spawn points, and can be controlled by either the player or the computer. Units can spawn from any friendly command post, and vehicles regularly spawn at their respective command posts when destroyed. Units can capture neutral or hostile command posts by approaching them and standing within the immediate vicinity for about 30 seconds. The time to capture quickens with more friendly units within the capture zone. The objective of most matches is to eliminate all of the opponents' reinforcement tickets or to capture the command points, to slowly chip away at their tickets. Reinforcement tickets are used whenever a unit is killed, or when one faction controls a majority of the command posts on the map (usually when the losing faction only has 2-3). You may recall in the summer of last year Andrew David, Siren Radio's Managing Editor chatted to Claire Birch who lives in the splendid surroundings of Doddington Hall with her family. The subject was a Rewilding Project that allows nature to do its thing without too much human intervention. Well, alongside this work, they'd also engaged with several departments at the University of Lincoln.

So I was delighted to be able to meet some of the authors and spend some time talking to them about this beautiful collection.

The finale of Movie Versus will take place in December - but for now, Halloween Havoc will put feared monsters like Jason Vorhees and Michael Myers against Freddy Krueger, Chucky, Jigsaw and Ghostface - with a sprinkling of Candyman and a dash of Leatherface on top. Back in the midst of various lock downs in May, Andrew David, Siren Radio's Managing Editor put a call in to Simon Gamewell who was just about to embark on a coast to coast charity event on his uprated and highly decorated mobility scooter. Two friends who first met at school in Lincoln are embarking on an epic 1800km bike ride from Geneva to Manchester to raise funds for a leading UK brain tumour charity and to support carers.

Known for his ‘Happy little trees’ iconic hairstyle and laughter, Bob Ross was America’s favourite art instructor and one of the most recognisable faces in television from the past forty years. On his programme called ‘The Joy of Painting’ he instructed the ‘wet on wet technique’ across America and the world. Now his life and times are remembered in the documentary ‘Bob Ross: Happy accidents, betrayal and greed’ that exposes the acts taken by the company ‘Bob Ross Inc.’ after Ross’s death, passing away of cancer in 1995. The company fought to keep Ross’s death under wraps, and now none of his money is earned by his estate or his family. His son, Steve Ross, campaigns to gain back what he lost, and still teaches Bob’s technique to this day with the help of family friend, Dana Jester. The Reel Guys, Corey and Murray take a look through the documentary’s content and themes as well as play some Bob Ross trivia to test their knowledge of the famous painter after watching the Netflix-produced Documentary. HERITAGE: CIVILIZATION AND THE JEWS, PART 8: OUT OF THE ASHES
Heritage: Civilization and the Jews was a nine hour American television series on the history of the Jewish people from ancient times up to the present. It was produced by WNET, the public service station in New York in 1984.
I was asked to write the 8th episode which dealt the period of the Holocaust – the destruction of European Jewry between 1933 and 1945, a story all too familiar but we felt it could be told again — not to show horrific images but to explain the how and try to understand the why. Hatred, prejudice and bigotry is a curse which can strike against any and every human being because at too many time in too many places, people define themselves not by who they are not but by who they are not. It is easy to persecute any within reach who are in anyway different. Of course, we remember the millions murdered during this one persecution, but we also remember what began as a war against the Jews ended by being a war against humanity as a whole…. It is a model for persecutions anywhere, at any time.
So it is about a war which is with us yet…. We remember how it happened so we can see in today’s discriminations the warning signs of what could well be to come….
I wrote this script decades ago but I fear my reasons then are still as pressing. The lessons then are, I fear, still needing attention now.
